Wow, that's awesome of you homer. I am putting on the cap now. The spike through the cap is a nice touch.

I'm putting together a Bruno's Greatest Hits so to speak. Going to dive through his threads and make a compilation of sorts. The man never really got the respect he deserved, but its great to see people coming together to help him out.
4982  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Post Your Favorite Trump Memes Here on: March 31, 2020, 04:00:27 AM
Does it count as a meme if it's an actual unmodified photo?

Its "unmodified"?

Damn, that's a lot of TP. Wonder how they stacked it up at the top all neatly like that without knocking the whole shit over.

Happy to give you the 2 merits you needed to become a Hero Member for this contribution, unmodified or not.

For the record, before I call it a night, of course I think its a good idea to have savings. It's a smart plan that should be adopted by everybody. However, chastising people for not having savings helps nobody and changes nothing. The bailout has already been passed by congress, and most of it is going to the extremely wealthy anyway, who despite being extremely wealthy for some reason couldn't manage to save money for their billion dollar corporations.

Hopefully this situation will refresh everybody's memory as to why savings are important, but as homer said earlier, people tend to have a short term memory.

So they lived broke all their life, yet they decided they could afford to have kids (which is probably one of the more expensive decisions a person can make)... and you say they are not over-spenders?

Nobody thinks they are going to be poor their entire lives.

This quote comes to mind:

“Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.” - Ronald Wright

Poor people have children because they want someone to take care of them when they get old -- doesn't seem like too much to ask.

Having said that, Catholic cultures in large do produce entirely too many offspring. They are afraid some of them are going to die along the way - and they usually do - but they still manage to overcompensate. Must be the whole anti-abortion, no condoms thing.

look

I don't have the big diesel truck, I don't have the fancy smartphone with the big data plan, I don't have the 50" TV with subs to all the streams.

I do have the emergency fund.

People made their own choices what they were going to use their money for.

The ones who are "out of touch" are the ones that thought they could keep spending at or beyond their means and think that nothing bad would happen.

If that category of retards is 80%, so be it.

Certainly some people are in that situation because of spending beyond their means. Most people on the other hand hustle just to cover basic expenses. Living in America ain't cheap.

Some people recently out of work here are already contemplating suicide out of shame for not being able to feed their families. Were they over-spenders? Hell no. They lived broke, and they will die broke. Just like millions of Americans.

Dismissing 80% of the American population as being frivolous in their spending habits is lazy.

Too many good Trump memes out there, can't keep up.

Anybody without 6 weeks of emergency fund probably doesn't belong in the gene pool.

I know that sounds fascist, but I didn't choose this world.

You're talking about at least 80% of all American workers.

You didn't choose this world but you did choose to reveal being extraordinarily out of touch.

Anyway, right, bitcoin, almost forgot.
4988  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 30, 2020, 03:20:34 PM
I think the point is we didn't know this was a thing before January. Now that we know, we can better prepare for it. Right now its spreading like wildfire, and we need to contain the spread as it is already overwhelming healthcare infrastructures worldwide.

Want to be clear here: We knew this was coming. We had dress rehearsals with SARS, MERS, and H5N1. We knew what needed to be done. We just decided not to listen, and not to prepare.

This is the logical outcome.

Sorry, but I believe strongly that Reality exists and facing one's errors is critical to ensuring they don't happen again. The problem isn't that "we didn't know" the problem is people willingly choose to ignore facts.

Bingo! All these denialists are doing is adding to the problem. If more people had listened and understood how serious this was in the beginning we wouldn't be in this fucking mess

The initial release from the World Health Organization (Jan 9th 2020).  Read it and weep.

 TL;DR
"According to Chinese authorities, the virus in question can cause severe illness in some patients and does not transmit readily between people."
"WHO does not recommend any specific measures for travellers. WHO advises against the application of any travel or trade restrictions on China based on the information currently available."

Right -- totally bizarre lapse of judgment on their part. By now you've probably seen the video of a senior advisor at WHO ignoring questions about Taiwan's handling of the illness. If you haven't, you should watch it, its weird AF:

https://twitter.com/ezracheungtoto/status/1243869774410469376

edit: this one is a bit more thorough: https://twitter.com/empressofmeme/status/1244008863885594626

Sure, as a whole, we should have been better prepared. But we weren't. All we can do now is learn some lessons the hard way and apply this newfound knowledge the next time around.

As my dad said, "it's amateur hour everywhere." Next time we won't be so green on what to do.

BRB, applying for a trillion dollar loan.

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/economy/federal-reserve-to-lend-additional-1-trillion-a-day-to-large-banks
Quote
The New York Federal Reserve Bank said it will offer $1 trillion of overnight loans a day through the end of this month to large banks. That is in addition to $1 trillion in 14-day loans it is offering every week. Banks, so far, have not borrowed nearly as much as the New York Fed is offering, and the loans are quickly repaid. None of the funding is from taxpayer dollars. Wall Street analysts say the huge number is intended to calm markets by demonstrating that the Fed’s ability to lend short-term is nearly unlimited.

The Fed is also buying Treasury bonds at a furious pace, and will soon run through the $500 billion in purchases it announced on Sunday. It is also accelerating its purchases of mortgage-backed securities. Most analysts expect they will buy more.

My thesis is that we all (most of us anyway) have COV already. And if we don't have it, we will definitely get it. Maybe not the latest mutated strain, but what ever.
This is how pandemics work imo.

Looks like we mostly agree.
Call me crazy, but tell me why we can't get rid of the regular flu for like decades.

I hope this isn't the case, but it could be. I haven't had the flu in about 20 years, and I never get flu shots. So I wouldn't be surprised if I never get this during the rest of my life.

I think the point is we didn't know this was a thing before January. Now that we know, we can better prepare for it. Right now its spreading like wildfire, and we need to contain the spread as it is already overwhelming healthcare infrastructures worldwide.

Once it is a bit more under the lid, then we can start to go back to our usual routines, keeping in mind that this thing is now out there. But for now, it is unwise to risk putting more pressure on doctors and hospitals. I don't mind sacrificing my personal freedoms for the time being if it helps speed up the return to normalcy.

So who is scamming? This guy bullied me with EU and US trademarks!

You. You are scamming. He bullied you? Prove it. I can prove that you were bullying the USPTO:

https://www.uspto.gov/sites/default/files/documents/Exclusion%20Order%20-%20Zoltan%20Konder.pdf

Should be pretty easy for you to prove your claim as well.

Again, Thor Halvorssen Mendoza is the "CEO" of HRF.org, digging a bit more I find that "The Human Rights Foundation Corporation" what Mendoza leads is registered in Washington D.C.

Seems like he's not a big fan of you either:

All this and they still don't want to quarantine the virus epicenter, NYC.  Roll Eyes

Interesting. I wonder why?

Quarantine is the smartest thing to do at the moment.

Most likely, so we are told.
Always question what you are told. Especially if they try to shove it down your throat.

Well, the excuse is that the rest of America - and ostensibly the world - depends on the ongoings of NYC; especially Wall Street and the financial sector. Another thing was Trump's (now abandoned) narrative that its simply un-American to close down business to such a magnitude, and that everything will be fine.

OK, so I'm questioning the quarantine request...

- People remain at home.
- Those who are carriers can't spread the virus to other people.
- Those who don't have it can't get it.
- In total isolation with 100% follow-through rate, it would only take 14-28 days for the problem to subside completely.
- Seeing as how that is not a viable alternative, I think 60 days of fairly stringent quarantine measures is reasonable. People do have to go out to get food and supplies, and people do have to be present at workplaces to deliver them.
- Everybody else whose employment is deemed non-essential will suffer financially.
- A relatively large amount of people are going to die from inadequate medical care.

This is the best case scenario.

Do you disagree with any of these premises or conclusions?

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/south-korea/

South Korea is about the only developed country that has nailed the response to coronavirus and it's mind boggling considering they haven't shut down the entire country.

Pretty incredible what social distancing + mass testing will get you.

They are also big on mask wearing. Same thing in China and Taiwan. Pretty certain cultures that do that already are one step ahead in the game.
4994  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 30, 2020, 04:47:07 AM
How convenient to have such exact, up to the minute figures...
Is he travelling around the world constantly counting dead bodies?
Or is every place in world reporting death figures to him directly?

Social Media at its best I guess.

Same nonsense as "this is just a flu".

Anybody who was paying attention to the videos coming out of Wuhan in February knows this wasn't "just a flu."

Sorry Lambie but you were wrong on this one.

Furthermore, nothing on that list is as contagious as this virus.

Not that Trump has been remarkably accurate about anything ever, but he has completely changed his tune from it being a hoax in the last 6 hours:

https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1250772/trump-extends-virus-guidelines-braces-us-for-big-death-toll

All this and they still don't want to quarantine the virus epicenter, NYC.  Roll Eyes

To be fair, neither does Governor Cuomo... That puts him in the same dumb camp as Trump as far as I'm concerned. Quarantine is the smartest thing to do at the moment.

I’m all for freedom of speech. They’re free to go anywhere else on the inter-webs and make a forum dedicated to just shit coins. They don’t need to be here benefiting from the traffic of the oldest bitcoin forum in existence. The only way I can see this continuing is if the only reason for this forum is profit. Then we literally don’t care what they promote as long as it makes the forum money.

Aren't you the ex-merit source guy who gave away a shitload of merits to scammers and spammers to prove that "the merit system isn't working"? What do you think most of those scammers and spammers were here for, promoting bitcoin? No, they wanted to either promote their scam or whatever ICO that was their bounty campaign.

The bounty hunter problem used to be much worse but thanks to the introduction of the merit system and waning of ICOs it has subsided and is now largely contained to a few specific sections of the forum. Just avoid those sections of the forum.

Of course the forum is for-profit. It's been that way for a long time. If you don't want to hear about altcoins, don't visit the Altcoin Discussion board. Pretty simple solution really. The mods do a great job of keeping things compartmentalized in that regard.
4996  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 29, 2020, 02:09:05 PM
Interesting thing about this virus: When it's over, will you go back to normal?

You also get +1 WO merit for this meme.

Yes, but with lessons learned in case we should have to endure a similar situation again.

I really don't think America can afford another pandemic. Our financial system is way too fucked. Every time there's a disaster we have to throw trillions of dollars at the corporate elite in hopes they won't decide to shut down the world economy?

Its really a hostage-taking situation being negotiated between big business and the Federal Reserve, where America is the hostage, and if the feds don't dole out $500 billion (1/4 of the total $2 trillion package) to big business, they just shut everything down. It is another bailout for people who made greedy choices, fucked themselves, and the rest of the country along with them.

We're gonna look back at the details of this bill and be horrified, just like what happened in 2008.

I am getting my hands on as much bitcoin as I can.

Nope. Whoever that address belongs to doesn't have control of your coins as they do not have access to your private keys. Your coins are fine.

You are screwed, you will probably log in and find ZERO coins in your account   Cry Cry Cry
