501  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining still profitable? on: July 01, 2015, 06:18:55 PM
I would stay away from cloud mining as the #1 priority,  it is becoming harder and harder to find a legit one.

Mining is still profitable if you are in the right situation or willing to put forth some effort.

Do you have cheap electricity? If not move to some where that does or look at renting a small office to get commercial rates.

Do you have access to miners?  If not you will need to buy miners at good price to make ROI easier, used miners are your best choice.

Do you live in a cold climate?  If not you will need money for fans, cooling, the power to run them, etc

Do you have the electrical infrastructure?  If not you will need money for outlets, wiring, breakers and possibly more

Once you figure all this out you can use a calculator to figure out if you will hit ROI.  Mining is still profitable but it takes effort and possibly a little luck on your current facilities.

This did remind me, if you live in a cold climate and are willing to heat your home with miners then you can definitely make a profit it still depends on your gas rate (electric shouldn't matter much as that money is already spent but if gas is much cheaper and you switch to miners you can lose money)

this past winter i did this with some s1's, power cost here is only 0.03/04 so it was worth while Smiley
502  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New mining hardware for july on: July 01, 2015, 06:16:10 PM
It sucks to see people saying that home mining is dead, It can all still be profitable. The only reason I moved to a commercial space is because I outgrew my garage.

IF YOUR power is under 10 cents profit can be made
So pretty much in midwest america is fine, hell my summer rates are 7 cents and winter are 6, and areas with nuclear are about the same. So with the new miners coming out we should see some more wiggle room and options for more home miners.

yeah pretty much so.  many people don't realize home mining can work but not like it used to.

I live in NJ  13 cents winter adjusts to 10 cents with heat savings  So from Oct 1 to June 1  I can mine at a profit.  but a small one at that.

In the summer 16.9 becomes 18 with extra cooling.  At 18 cents only sidehack's usb sticks make money.  And I am not counting the power cost for the controller just using 4 watts for 12 gh.

I eek by with a small profit not like last fall.  13th getting paid 5x normal on nicehash due to the paycoin rush.

I think that's why alot of people are moving their gear to WA/OR for the cheap hydro electric rates
503  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New mining hardware for july on: July 01, 2015, 06:14:34 PM
i hope its alot quieter than the s5, not a big deal for farms or people with small data centers but for home miners its noticable
We will probably just have to mod the fans again, I think Bitmain is more concerned with the big farms and keeping cost low by just using a industrial jet engine noise fan.

I find the white noise from the fans relaxing, sometimes I open the doors to the mining rooms at my house. It makes me fall asleep faster.

lol yeah, also good to block out ambient noise when the kids are sleeping!  Shocked

mining is alive and should stay alive. At least for the time being.

especially with the price slowly creeping up Smiley

yeah it makes sense for them to put their money into btc, the volatility of bitcoin is nothing compared to their economy's situation, they need to protect their money

511  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer s3+ setup on: June 30, 2015, 04:47:48 PM
can anyone on here help me set up my antminer. I plug in everything correctly. when I type the IP address of the miner on the browser and not connecting to the internet. it say the device with that IP is not responding.

Did you get the miner from someone else or is it one you were using and know it for sure is the IP?

As general advice I would look at connected devices to router try to find it.  Assuming you don't have a lot of connected IP's you should be able to try them and hopefully find it's IP.

I would try finding quite a bit first.  But if you cannot find it resetting it is the next option.

i got the antminer on ebay they were working fine at my old apartment. i have stop minning for a month cuz i was moving and now in my new apartment with different internet company. i do not have a router i only have a motern.

yeah you need a router.. you dont have a wireless router with a 4 port switch on the back?

how are you plugging it in? direct to your cable modem?
512  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Help me getting started on: June 30, 2015, 04:41:37 PM
After reading all these replies, i just want to know whats the minimum Gh/s that i should have to start mining and get some profit

And Thank realy you for your help Smiley

it depend , if you want to go small 1 tera should be suffice otherwise, you need 10-100 for a very good profit, around 100 tera will give you 1 btc a day, but without cheap electricity all those 100 btc will go to the bills

Thank you
I just need a profit between 0.01 and 0.1 btc per day
Is 1 tera enough ?

yeah 1TB is enough man, it might take 5 months to recoup the cost of the miner but after that you will be in the green and earning profit.. but in 5 months that 1TB machine will be making significantly less profit than now.

Your best bet is start off with as much as you can afford and supply power to

514  Economy / Computer hardware / WTS / WTT 10+ 2gb Nanya DDR3 Desktop ram sticks PC3-10600 on: June 30, 2015, 05:21:22 AM
I've got a bunch of these leftover from a ram upgrade and looking to get back into mining.

If there's any interest I'd be willing to trade for miners or sell them.

I've got free power and not opposed to older gear, although anything less than U3/S1 I'd have to pass on

yeah a usb miner is not very good anymore.. the antminer U3 will make you like 10-15 cents per day at most
517  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining dead ? on: June 29, 2015, 04:53:15 PM
if you have free electric you can still make profit but not much at all
518  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Do you have free power have I got a deal for you!! Free power + old gear on: June 26, 2015, 08:55:44 PM
Huge thank you to you guys for waking me up! I took my Terraminers offline last Fall and figured they were simply worthless. I had no idea there are places around the country with free power.

My miners are now sold via ebay and on their way to a new home!

glad it worked out for you ! Smiley
