501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 25, 2014, 10:48:42 PM
Hi Nxt community,

Many people are interested in NXT at Coinsumm.it. I hope my delivery of the Decentralized Applications panel speach was representative of the views, goals, and projects of the Nxt community. I have business and developer leads to bring to the Nxt community. Thanks for the opportunity to speak as an ambassador of Nxt.

Sincerely,
Brian Snyder

Thanks for your work, Brian!  Smiley

NxtMinnow on NOW!
504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 25, 2014, 12:34:12 PM
and i dont think we should move all the discussion to the new forum. As someone already pointed out, this thread alone is good advertisement for Nxt.

No reason to close it.
Just leave it open, so we still have a channel towards the community here Smiley
Why close down something that is both epic and useful?
505  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 24, 2014, 06:48:35 PM
I thought you guys had moved to the new thread.
I dont remember agreeing to moving. It is easier for me to follow a linear thread.

You have the option of the long&single thread there too.
I will post multigateway status over there, but ask tech questions here as I have no idea where I am supposed to post questions to CfB on the forum

In any thread that is relevant to the question Smiley
CfB is on the forum, too.
506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 24, 2014, 04:39:36 PM

Bye, bye, sweet thread! Smiley

OK, everybody, your favorite dictator rickyjames here, flapping my gums wildly once more.

We've coming up on 2500 pages on this Bitcointalk thread.  What an accomplishment!!!  Woo Hoo!!!

We have a new forum that is Our Very Own at nxtforum.org .   Go ahead, enter it into your address bar of your browser, it works and it's a Simple Machine forum just like this one at Bitcointalk.  You'll feel right at home.

I've created a thread there called NXT Pub Thread - 2500 More Pages Here Or Bust

http://107.170.117.237/index.php/topic,91.0.html

I propose that 2Kool lock this thread at page 2500 and we do a mass migration over there.

It would be nice, neat, poetic closure.  And a new beginning.

Like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUQbLz7AoYc

C'mon, everybody.  Think Nike.  Just do it.

Nxt community might have been ready to do this. But you still need to persuade CFB to make the change. I don't know how he feel about it. I hope he will give it a try.

CfB might still post here, but he is also registered over there, as is Jean Luc  Smiley

No worries!
We are making quite a smooth transfer at the moment.
509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 23, 2014, 11:29:56 PM
The new NXT forum doesn't send out mails -- wesleyh, check and fix your server's sendmail, please.

Could you put that here, please? http://107.170.117.237/index.php/board,34.0.html

Otherwise we might miss it tomorrow (it's night where we are)

This guy Peter Todd is listed as Chief Scientist of the Mastercoin Foundation. Don't you think we could make an exception when the FUD reaches this level?

Hmm, you may be right, anyway.
However, it's just a very very short sentence.
Maybe joefox can do something with it on his Nxt minute?
Not directly, but obliquely.
511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 23, 2014, 10:29:19 PM
I never said you should care about everyone. This isn't emule we're talking about

I don't care even if Satoshi says that Nxt uses checkpoints, coz it's not the truth. And I'm not going to waste my time trying to tell the others what the truth is. That guy doesn't know what he is talking about, or knows and lies. Anyway, 99% of the listeners don't care about checkpoints, decentralization and other stuff.

True.
Also: if you go on a crusade to defend yourself to every accusation you

a) lend credence to lies (where there is smoke, there must be fire-effect)
and
b) get a headache and become tired very quickly.

Here's a reminder: Don't forget your target audience, the average crypto investor.

This is an assumption.

One that I don't share, by the way.

Why are people still here?! Wink

www.nxtforum.org is so nice and fresh!

Feel the fresh air!

514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 23, 2014, 01:16:44 AM
Nxt is in dared need of a 100% trust forum. Im wondering how long it will take until we get one. I believe community fund should fund a forum to get thing structure a bit. It good to be decentralized, but not desorganized.

I'm setting one up now and if opticalcarrier agrees it can be the new forums.nxtcrypto.org:

http://107.170.117.237

Can we get an SSL cert for it?  They are actually very cheap, I believe even free for a single server cert wwith startSSL.  If you order it with nxtcrypto.org domain then I will do the email part when it comes in.

But I wish I could get a domain-wide wildcard cert donated from infrastructure committee.  But they refused the request. So, JLP/CFB, please tell me your opinion on these light clients with client side signing, when they connect to VPSs, are SSL connections needed?  If so I will just disable SSL on all my VPSs and we can just forget about SSL altogether.

Except for forums  And also I wish we could get one for wiki, but the infrastructure commitee deems it unnecessary there as well.

BTW, sent both you and ^[GS]^ a PM on nxtcrypto. You've both put a lot of work in there, as have the language specific subforum mods! I would not want to let that go unnoticed!
Please respond to it when you have time and inclination Smiley

@sebastien: Technical committee should be Technical Development, and I would prefer if u removed the word "proposals" from all 3 forum section titles.

Changed Smiley
If you can get me a short description of the activities of the IC (and maybe even TechDev) I'll put it there, too.
Just the names is not enough, imo.

Thanks, makker.
Yep, I'll post an InfCom mission statement in a while, want to get a bounty announcement ready to go as well, so that's first.
Well, coffee is first, then I'll put the bounty ann. together, then post it and an introducton, so u can leave it in my capable paws.

Whay aren't u in bed, btw?

It's Saturday night, ffs!
Also, watching TV and forgot the time.
516  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 23, 2014, 01:11:36 AM
I just got ....nothing.

Someone just took the trouble to send me absolutely no NXT.....I'm confused.

   zondag 23 maart 2014 1:39:33      1750394380814123791      0 NXT payment   1 NXT Fee      4 conf

Thanks, anyway, but WTF?

Wasn't it an AM?
517  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 23, 2014, 01:03:15 AM
I do believe we should allow alisases to expire.  Consider that AM's will be purged periodcally, as a spam prevention.  Well, RIGHT NOW, its better to spam blockchain with alias reassignment, and this is PERMANENT.  So not only will alias expiration more ably counter spam, but it allows reuse if owner dies with no plan for continued usage of alias.  Of course, we should allow a time period for owner to be able to renew before others can grab it.

And whenever DNS comes around, those records should expire as well, as well as with the ability of the owner to renew before any one else, if the owner is still alive.

Even though I own a LOT of aliases (spent some exciting nights back in December searching and registering them  Grin) I see the wisdom in this and would not mind at all.
Just registering and then being able to "sit" on them indefinitely is not good business practice and would put a lot of people/businesses off.

If only for the fact that I may go away of die of even lose the passphrase to an alias owning account, this is wisdom, or even common sense.  Smiley

A "renewal window" would be good though. I wouldn't want to sit behind the screen and do this feverish run again.

Heads up marketing team...This is the second time I am repeating this, Just a pointer for a more effective marketing strategy, other than the guerrilla marketing we have been limited to. The other crypto 2.0 platforms are doing it right.

Solution: Create campaigns marketing directly to businesses who will IPO on the nxt blockchain, each of these businesses will then partially serve as autonomous marketing vehicle for the nxt platform

1) counterparty has got it right: They have got 7+ businesses plus Adam b Levine ready to go on their platform

2) watch the video bitshares video..Their main focus is to appeal to businesses http://bitshares.org/

This is why platforms like Apple app store, Amazon and ebay are so successful...The sellers and affiliate marketers on these platform actually work to promote their product listed there, which in in turn brings greater exposure to the platform. I have yet to see any consensus on a similar strategy..So if you are a key decision maker on the NXT marketing committee please think about this post, I should know I studied a bit of marketing in college and made a living working in the field for a while other than just writing code...

Just my 2 nxt..back to work.

Nxt's Achilles heel at the moment is marketing. Big time.

Brought this up with the Marketing Committee. We may have to change our mandate, if this is the wish of the community.
At the moment we only have a mandate to disburse funds, but it seems silly to just be passive. Bút we have been voted in on the MC mandate and will not just spend the Nxt outside our remit. We need approval for that!

We áre already busy, by the way: https://forums.nxtcrypto.org/viewforum.php?f=54
Five projects need to be voted on this week. And will be voted upon.

We also want to ask to keep up with thinking up projects and to remember that there *are* funds available, provided you come up with a plan that gives a good ROI.
Be creative, be bold and above all: be active!

I invite everyone that had post something interesting in this thread and who wish that information to be useful in the future to take the time to repost the subject info as a new thread on the new forum: http://107.170.117.237/index.php#c3

As an example, I did repost on the new forum the info I gave concerning mining nxt with a cpu to beta test the nxt mining pool.
Im sure there is plenty of information like this in this thread that can be reorganized.

Many thanks, and hope a better future for Nxt with more organization.

Yes, please make threads about the important topics in the relevant forums!
That will get talk going.
Noone likes to look at an empty forum!

Once the momentum is good, people will go there of their own accord Smiley

Please get the ball rolling on every topic you think is important.
The smoother the transition, the better it will be Smiley
