502  Economy / Economics / Re: I need bitcoin to be $690 to break even.....will I make it? on: June 15, 2015, 08:34:24 AM

Other reasons why increased adoption does not necessarily mean increased price:

  • Fractional-reserve banking. If you believe that Bitcoin is immune to fractional-reserve banking, you are being naive.
  • Bitcoins, and other crypto-currencies and crypto-assets are much more efficient to transfer. For the same amount of economic activity, many fewer bitcoins are needed. The demand as a result of increased adoption would not be as high as you think. Especially with the huge overhang of hoarding that we have now.
could you elaborate on fractional reserve banking for me please?

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=fractional+reserve+banking&l=1

I know what fractional reserve banking is. I mean how do you think it relates to bitcoin?

if this is true that he opened an account and was credited 10btc. if he did nothing to hack or manipulate the system to receive the btc once he withdrew them they were rightfully his.

Exactly.

Anyone of us would have kept the btc and don't tell me you would not have. Opening 10 accounts may have been a little excessive.  Wink
Talk about temptation. I think the first thing to do would be to bet with it, not just straight up withdraw it.

Its a very school boy error to have left this code giving away 10btc. OP is extremely lucky.

All in all, it makes for a nice story though.
504  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin users: Will bitcoin ever be used and fully adapted as a currency? on: June 14, 2015, 09:49:27 PM
It really could do. People currently exchange their hard earned money for it so it means something to a lot of people already. I think when it is at 2% inflation will be interesting. Although I am not sure when its value will stabilise.
505  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I was stolen 100+ BTC, don't know what to do - please help on: June 14, 2015, 09:30:53 PM
haha this is quite funny actually. OP exploits a bug and gets a windfall but then doesn't move the coins to his own wallet.

Close but no cigar.
506  Economy / Gambling / Re: suggest me a winning sure bet today on: June 14, 2015, 09:14:53 PM
There is nothing as sure shot, but one game I am betting big on today is on Federer in his game vs Philipp Kohlschreiber . The odds aren't big , but its almost a sure shot game.
What if he has to retire because his four hundred year old legs don't allow him to stand any more?
Like I said, there is nothing at sure shot. But some games are just too good to bet on, as  you can't expect them to lose to someone to a much lower ranked player unless they are injured.
I was just joshing with you but, I just took a quick look at the odds and he will lose roughly one time out of every five times he plays this match, if the odds are fair. Its no different to the time when Burnley beat Man Utd some years back. Long shots happen time and time again.
507  Economy / Gambling / Re: Biggest win you've got in a single bet? on: June 14, 2015, 08:34:30 PM

You not only work you pick up dust for a signature campaign. £13.500 could have been enough to change your life had you made use of the bankroll and start a long overdue business you had been thinking about.

I registered for that signature campaign today. It seems we both earn dust this way.

Let us assume that i did make use of the funds to start a business, wouldnt that business be classed as work? What do you think would change so much?
508  Economy / Marketplace / Re: I am lucky guy! Bitcoin made me rich! {bitcoin roulette experience} on: June 14, 2015, 06:39:59 PM
Roulette has 36 numbers . From 0 to 36. Made some math. 1+2+3+4+......36 and the total will be 666 . Wondering why 666 ....satan owns the roulette. You will lose more than you will win on this game
thats cool! I had to check.

Did I read earlier that all bets have to be equal to $1? Can you place multiple bets?

hey! no the minimum bet is 100 Satoshis Smiley!! the 1Dollar thing is for a future thing we're working on hehe Smiley
once again, the minimum bet is 100 Satoshis!

you can bet as many times as you wish Smiley and on multiple horses !
Can I bet on the jackpot race now or do I have to wait until shortly before it starts? I might be otherwise engaged later this evening.

hi guys  i wanna bet today , i have 0.2 btc with me wanna make it large..
please suggest a fool proof bet , so that i really can win.

regards, Smiley

you can't win for 99% in gambling beacause it is gamble ,
if you really want to win for sure and make your money larger bigger and more
just go apply for a job with your 0.2 btc as your capital and make it 2 btc a month with your salary later on.
you placed more risk and you will get more too, that's the basic concept of gambling.
have fun to gamble mate!
He might end up with a job with a crappy startup company that goes bust and doesn't pay him. Nothing is for certain. I bet the sun will rise again tomorrow though. Care to offer me some odds? Wink

i really doubt that you have to bet minimum one dollar, because they have a faucet that pays only satoshi
Yes it would make little sense. Also seeing as they just said this. I just thought I read it somewhere.

for example, if the jackpot is placed on horse A and Horse B wins, then everyone who bet on horse B will split the Jackpot accordingly to their Bets on Horse B (the higher your bet is, the higher your % of the winnings will be)

8 Hours left until the Jackpot race begins !
Do you have any more information to a new comer about this?

How does this work ?
#1 create and Account.
#2 deposit Bitcoins.
#3 Place a bet on the horse you think will win.
#4 Watch your horse race the track against the others!

how are winnings divided and collected ?

if your horse would win the race you will share the Total Bitcoins
(with the others that have also bet on your horse) that
have been placed as bets on all the horses in the race!
your winnings will equal your bet in % against the other players who
also won.
EX. total 10 Bets, all 10 players bet 1 BTC each. only you and one
and more bet on Horse #1. if that horse win, you will share 50% of the
Total bets with the other person who also betted on your Horse. which
would be 5 BTC.
The Higher bet. the Higher return.

ABOUT the jackpot Smiley

in about 4 hours a 0.1 Jackpot will be placed on the race which everyone will have a chance to claim Smiley
How is the jackpot awarded and/or split amongst winners?
515  Economy / Gambling / Re: Biggest win you've got in a single bet? on: June 14, 2015, 04:07:04 PM
I'm able to win 9900x multiplier on PrimeDice with 2000 satoshi on two days. At least I can recover my loss Smiley

Wow you're the luckiest person I've ever meet. That's bet will change out your life isn't it
It was pretty huge at the time, but honestly no it doesn't change your life. I still work.

around £13,500 I wrote about it here http://www.bettingprophet.com/gamblingramblings/my-single-biggest-gambling-win-ever

Quote

Ahhh my single largest winning bet ever. This was a nice moment. Actually, I made this bet on a crappy day. I was in a funny mood and was reading a gambling forum I often frequent and there was talk of this football player called "Falcao" being good value at Betfred. I had never even heard of him. But I paid attention and took a look at the markets. The numbers would tell me all I needed to know.

Betfred had been running the same promotion each week on selected football matches which they call, "double delight/hatrick heaven". They still run this promotion today. In a nutshell, if you back a player to score the first goal and your bet wins and the same player scores a 2nd goal in the same match, Fred will double your odds. If the same player scores a third goal then Fred will treble your odds. It turned out that this game was selected by Fred for this "double delight" promotion.

The match was the Super Cup 2012, which is when the winners of the Champions League play the winners of the Europa League. It was Chelsea Vs Atletico Madrid.

I found out that Falcao as first goal scorer was available to back at 7.5 (13/2) at Betfred to score first. I looked at Betfair and you could lay him at 7.8 which isn't bad (don't know what lay means? Start here). I got my calculator out and layed enough to cover a bet of £200, but I decided to join a queue to see if I could get matched at 7.6 and within five minutes it got matched. So I quickly went to my local betfred shop and bet £200 on him at 7.5 (13/2).

I got home and there was enough liquidity to lay him again at 7.6. So, I picked up the phone and rang Betfred's telebetting service and placed another £200 on him at 7.5 (13/2). I layed it off immediately and I noticed that there was quite a bit of action being taken on him at Befair and the price was being traded at 7.4, lower than you could back him at Betfred.

I knew that there were three more local shops that I could get to pretty quickly and I was confident that each of them would accept a £200 bet on Falcao as first goalscorer. But like I said before I was in a bit of a funny mood this day, so I queued enough to lay £600 at 7.2 and I went to visit my Mum. After I moped around there and sulked for a while I checked on my phone how my queue was doing and it had been matched, so I had no choice now but to drive out to the next three shops.

So the next three bets all went pretty smoothly and I was feeling good about the bet but I knew that it was a long shot so I wasn't jumping for joy just yet. I went home and got my calculator out and I backed a little bit more on Falcao to score at 7.4 in order to create a little underlay where I was risking £56 to win around £350 should he score first, with a lot more money to come should the long shot come in. So I had backed £1,000 in total, but hedged the bet so that in effect I was only ever going to lose a maximum of £56.

I went back to visit my Mum and have a brew. Later on my wife called me and tells me the car has broken down on her way back from her Mums. That Peugeot 307 gave us nothing but problems. It was an AA jobby and my mum drove me to meet her. Not knowing how long we'd have to wait for the AA man we popped in to a pub which was close by to where she had broken down.

The pub pretty busy. It wasn't a sports pub, it was one of those that focused on food. The match was on one television but it was on silent, and by the time I had got in there it was already 1-0 to Atletico Madrid. I had a little bit of hope going on inside me at this moment and shortly after getting in there I saw Atletico Madrid score their 2nd goal. "Please be Falcao, please be Falcao", I muttered to myself.

Of course I had no idea who it was that scored, as I had never heard of the bloke before, let alone know what he looked like. So I peered around the crowd of people, trying to get a good luck at the television screen and I noticed a number 9 on the back of the shirt. I still didn't know for sure but I was hopeful.

I wandered off to find my wife who was sitting behind a pillar at a table with our sleeping 12 month old daughter. "We might have just won.... *a lot* of money", I said to her. "Probably not though, but we might Smiley", I wandered back to the TV screen with a skip in my step without waiting for a response as I often do when I get my head involved with these things. Poor woman having to put up with me. She's amazing though Smiley

Then I saw this at the bottom of the silent TV screen,

That was the information I was after. I move to a position so that I can see my wife, I catch her eye and then I start nodding my head like some sort of victorious super hero and then I went and spoiled it all by pumping my fist like those super sissy golfers do. I guess the emotion just got to much for this sissy.

I say, "that's like £6,500 we just won", and my wife starts joking about how we are going to spend it. For anybody who doesn't know me, I'm not frivolous, winnings like this get invested, not spent, and my wife knows it. Again, poor woman Smiley

The AA get in touch and announce they are outside. Can't remember what was wrong with the car, don't care. That car was a dick! It was getting dark and the AA man suggested we follow him in our car, in it's current state to get home, and he carried out his work outside our home. I go inside and switch on the TV.

Ooooo who had scored the third? Well I think you know where this story was heading. Yep, got it! Hatrick heaven. Winnings came to around £13,500.

It sounds to me like what you need is an arb. I don't have any experience of arbing with bitcoins though and with a total bank of 0.2 bitcoins I'd just have a flutter. The suggestion of england to beat slovenia earlier in this thread is as good as any, so long as you have favourable odds. Good luck!
519  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is Bitcoin still a slave of Fiat? on: June 14, 2015, 02:09:51 PM

Very rightly said and I still feel that bitcoin can never replace fiat as there are many things which you cannot buy by using bitcoin like grocery stuff and it would take a very long time when the grocerries and the small shops starts accepting bitcoin as a mode of payment and I dont think in near future that bitcoin can replace fiat.
So do you think bitcoin can never replace fiat, or that it will take a very long time to replace fiat?

Bitcoin can't replace fiat.

No central bank will issue BTC and no gov will obligate all business to accept BTC, so someone will always don't accept btc
The government obligating all businesses to accept BTC does seem like an important point. If they do not then businesses could still trade in bitcoin for goods and services, unless it was made illegal. Even if it was made illegal people would ask themselves, "which one benefits me most?" If you are paying someone to fit a new kitchen for example, much like a tradesman might prefer to be paid in cash now, he might opt for bitcoin (I know cash is more anonymous than bitcoin). If however, you wanted to buy a house in order to rent it out to a tenant then people would typically require the "official documentation" that the state currently oversees, which legitimises ownership of a property and provides support from the police and the courts should a tenant stop paying rent.

It seems pretty drastic that a buyer would want to purchase a property in bitcoin to me. It would be far too wild west. The little I have heard about coloured coins sounds interesting but the courts and the police would need to accept this and that order must come from government, otherwise people wont respect it, and I don't see government getting on board to this extent any time soon.
520  Economy / Economics / Re: I need bitcoin to be $690 to break even.....will I make it? on: June 14, 2015, 11:30:18 AM
5-10 years for reaching a mere 690? this must be a joke, if by that time bitcoin is still at 690, then something went utterly wrong, and bitcoin is done, none can save it anymore

It is entirely possible for Bitcoin to become widely adopted while the price to remains where it is now or even falls.
Do you think? I look at it in the sense that if it becomes widely adopted then it's demand would obviously sky rocket and naturally the exchange price would rise. I would be quite surprised if it's popularity increased and its current value remained the same.

you expect too much from bitcoin, bitcoin at $1000 will be an amazing achievement. a market cap of around $20 billion is more than enough.
You know what? You are probably right. I first got excited by bitcoin around a year ago. I bought a few and held until I sold for roughly 50%-60% loss a couple of months ago. The thing that remains though is that the technology is still very exciting and it's potential is huge. It's all down to other people though to make it happen. I can only join in with dreaming the dream. But that's actually pretty important as the more people that believe bitcoin has value is what will actually make it more valuable.
