501  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Message Encryption with bitcoin address. on: July 11, 2014, 03:06:33 AM
No.  Bitcoin uses ECDSA which is a digital signature algorithm not an encryption algorithm.  You could use another algorithm which supports encryption however Bitcoin address is not a Public Key it is a hash of the public key.   If you need to use a third party algorithm, third party software, and exchange keys directly well you might as well use something that was designed for this purpose like PGP.

But could you first unhash the bitcoin address, and then use it as a public key in some encryption algorithm to encrypt my statement: "This is a test of my new system" - resulting in the only person able to decrypt it is the guy with the private key -  which happens to be the same private key used to sign bitcoin transactions?

Would that work?
502  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Message Encryption with bitcoin address. on: July 10, 2014, 11:01:51 PM
Can I encrypt a short message with a bitcoin address (public key) and send that to a person I know has the private key?

If I use a bitcoin address to encrypt a message of only 30 characters - how long with the encrypted message be?

How may this be done?

For example, my message is: "This is a test of my new system" and this is the public key: 12K5SyY2Z3DNsqFtTCnyGC3J7jYTCjM54m

What does the encrypted message look like and how does one arrive at making it?

504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Official Mastercoin Foundation, Master Protocol & Mastercoin Thread on: July 01, 2014, 11:34:03 PM
Why is Storj listed on http://wiki.mastercoin.org/index.php/Upcoming_Crowdsales ?

It makes you question all of the listed crowdsales. Did you just haphazardly list projects hoping they would use mastercoin?

So far the API network has raised 37BTC and the genercoin 3BTC. I'm guessing it's less than they been hoping for however I wonder where they've been advertising their projects? Is there a thread here on bitcointalk about this crowed sales? Or is it reddit strictly only? If you're looking to raise BTC the best place to go should be bitcointalk.

API network used to have a percentage to first goal on their page. It was taken down after stuck at "7% to first goal" for a week.

Sadly they will probably raise less then $50k.

The peculiar thing is, it happens to be one of the most interesting projects I've seen come to Mastercoin.  Storj is dumb as hell.  API Network could be huge.  WTF?
505  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NewEgg accepting BTC! on: July 01, 2014, 02:47:44 PM
Wow this is huge! They have such large market share that this will drive other merchants to start accepting btc also,

All of us should resolve to shop at Overstock and Newegg for all products competitively priced.  By collectively exercising our bitcoin buying 'power' - we FORCE other retailers into using this currency system too.  We are now a very big group.

Please buy your stuff from Newegg!!
506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: July 01, 2014, 02:41:04 PM
man reading all this makes me glad i decided to refund at the beginning of the year.
The only reason you came back here to read this thread is because you are sad that you already cashed out.  Sucker.

If you take all the '1's and '0's on your computer as it is now, and mix them around a little bit, you'll have an image of another catholic priest butt raping a little boy.  Better throw your computer in the trash.
508  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Legalized in California on: June 30, 2014, 07:13:56 PM
The interesting thing about this is? It was legalized as a alternate CURRENCY and not PROPERTY! One now has to wonder what kind of fallout this will have on the IRS?As we all know the IRS declared Bitcoin as Property on a RULING? Which is not LAW and backed by NOTHING! They have nothing to stand on!
The IRS has NO LAW to back this assessment on!Nor does the IRS have the power too ever make LAW or interpret Law on a FEDERAL or STATE level!! LAW must be WRITTEN and SIGNED into order by STATE or STATE'S and CONGRESS!This is good news for Californian's too tell the IRS too FUCK OFF! Because they have a written and signed LAW which trumps a RULING! Which isn't a written and signed LAW and backed by no CONGRESS or STATE Wink

This is mostly correct.  And also extremely important.  The IRS works for the people.  The people tell the IRS what to do.  The people do this by way of their elected officials.  The IRS must administer the tax code as the people authorize them to do that.

This first law (there will be more) tells the IRS how to act.  They can't act one what they want to do, but they must act on what the law tells them to do.  Their rules are no more than 'suggestions' and 'guidelines'.  The first time someone challenges their notion of how to treat bitcoin in tax calculations, the COURT will set a precedent (in view of the written law - including the new one in California) and that will be the final rule.  First, we need someone to challenge the IRS's bullshit rule.  This takes time and can be expensive.  However, someone will finally do it.  Likely, this will occur only after the IRS tries to enforce their 'rule' against someone.  Then, that person will have the opportunity to challenge the rule and let a judge hear the case to make a decision.  If you don't want to be this person, then you probably should follow the IRS guidelines today.  If you want to be this person, call the IRS to report yourself as not following their rules.

For me, I don't want to be that person.  I'll wait until some brave person more durable than me will do it.

question: if I have 220V power, 13 Amps max power bar, can I run one lots of Neptune miner without problem? my calculation is 12Amps max. Please correct me if I am wrong.
That is fine.  You can run it.  But how will you make coffee and toast?
510  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Hacking The KNC Firmware: Overclocking on: June 29, 2014, 04:41:07 PM
I have removed the Neptune aluminum plate. Now I can see the Ericsson VRM's..... this is bad: they are the BMR4641002 (max 40A) instead of the BMR4641008 (max 50A).   Sad ...... no OC possible !

The 1002 has a OverCurrentProtection of 48A and looking to my Advanced-page: nearly all the VRMs are already around 46-47A (and this is KnC's default setting).
They should have used the 1008 instead, which has 50A and an OCP of 62A.

Can't we just desolder the 1002 and remove them to be replaced by soldering some 1008s in their place?  Doesn't that mod seem like a good solution?  What do you think?
511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 21, 2014, 10:10:20 PM
That's funny - I've got ten of them on the way now!  Already ordered the grease too!

Now what do you think dickhead?

^^^ THAT is funny ^^^

Noob, 10 Neptunes, Grease, Profanity all in one post.

...said the wanna be Neptune owner.  Keep wishin' buddy!  Maybe put up a donation address so someone will give you a few satoshis on your way to saving up for one.
512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 21, 2014, 09:49:31 PM
What do you think?

I think if you folks want to tinker with Neptunes you should have ordered one for yourself.

Elenelen carry on hashing away. Don't do anything that might risk extended downtime for your new machine.

513  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 21, 2014, 09:23:19 PM
Connectors...

Don't you think the connectors which seem to be slightly under rated might enjoy improvement via this stuff:
http://www.mgchemicals.com/products/greases-and-lubricants/conductive-greases/carbon-conductive-grease-846/

I can imagine a very good / excellent contact would reduce arching and meltdown at the connector if these were greased with conductive grease which tends to improve the electrical contact between sliding parts.

What do you think?
514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 21, 2014, 06:55:08 PM
after a full day of tinkering...
What sort of tinkering?
515  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Official Mastercoin Foundation, Master Protocol & Mastercoin Thread on: June 21, 2014, 04:31:02 PM

Poor marketing by david or curtis? Bad idea? Maybe, just maybe, mastercoin's reputation is tarnishing the crowdsales on the network?
I'd love to invest in this one.  It is an awesome idea.  The only trouble is, once I give my $50,000 they will simple change the rules so Brock Pierce and other MSC whales can put another huge chuck of money in thier pockets.  Why should I lose another $50,000 because MasterProtocol thinks it is OK to change the rules in the middle of the deal?  No thanks.

If you think the API Network failure has anything at all to do with the quality of the project - you'd be wrong.  It has everything to do with a fundraising platform that can be manipulated to take money from one group and give it to another group - 'in the name of fairness' according to David Irvine.  Fucker.

I seriously doubt ANY project will ever successfully fund on MasterProtocol again.

Bottom line: MasterProtocol managers fucked up with their 'price fix' scheme = .2 MSC/BTC and totally destroyed all faith in the protocol and ability of its managers to act fairly.  No recovery on the horizon.  Shame really, because the idea was pretty good.
516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Campaign - to get Office Depot to accept bitcoin on: June 20, 2014, 09:37:30 PM
Please contact Roland Smith the Office Depot CEO (eg via LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/pub/roland-smith/6b/597/701 or email: Investor.Relations@officedepot.com ) to encourage them to accept bitcoin.  It is time for this great web retailer to adopt another customer preferred payment method and abandon the more cumbersome expensive alternative PayPal.

Thank you.

After you contact them, come back here to report you've done your bit by adding your name to the list.

What a pity mastercoin, your guys just ruined a promising project due to your limited ability! Even though I just lost 80% of my savings and half of years, I can't image a team can't win a guy! Two weeks of omniwallet is just a joke! Goodbye, mastercoin, you are born on a irresponsible team who made a sadness to mastercoiners, who ... are ... son of b...
You could always try NXT.  Have you seen how advanced their system is?  Does MSC have anything like this: https://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/Nxt_API

Not even close.  MSC is a million miles behind.  MSC dev team is a joke.  They couldn't write their way out of a wet paper bag.  A real shame.

It takes 7 guys 3 months to fix email?  Mastercoiner form is dead.  No wonder there is no interest in this stupid coin.

Nothing but total silence for so long.  The MSC project is over.  Dead.

While Ron announces his 'personal assistant' - the project is now dead.  MSC is finished.  Killed by incompetence.

Hey, mikewirth, what's wrong with you?
Tired of hoping something would come of MSC project.  Damn thing is nothing but disappointment.  What is wrong with you?

Please stop screaming.

We can do something good to the MSC project, not just waiting.

For example, vote for Mastercoin ( https://hitbtc.com/vote ) or take part in the projects testing.
THIS IS SCREAMING - ASSHOLE!   I wasn't screaming.  I am just trying to say MSC has died a miserable death.  No activity visible anywhere.  mastercoin.org is a desert.
