501  Economy / Economics / Re: Silk road impact on BTC price ? on: September 23, 2015, 01:31:08 AM
After the first version of Silk road went down, the price did drop quite significantly. Investors might just have the mentality that a large volume of Bitcoin was generated by silk road as the adoption rate was small then. It rebounded after that, the second silkroad didn't have much impact likely due to the already high adoption rate and there are better alternatives to silkroad.

The first bust caused btc to drop 30% I think.

I guess the media is somehow right after all on what they keep saying on the news , Bitcoin plays a big part on the Darknet marketplace these days .

Bitcoin is a very powerful tool. It has all (well, most) the benefits of a credit card, all the anonymity and finality of cash. Whether it was Satoshi's intention or not, Bitcoin is perfect for illegal activity over the internet. It's also great for porn and buying sex toys. Imagine all the people who's info leaked because of the Ashley Madison hack, I think they would have been safer if they would have used bitcoin (and a throwaway email account). For a long time, lots of the traffic was illegal stuff and people dicking around with digital money. Now it's starting to really gain traction. I am eager  to see us burst beyond $1000 again.
502  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin halving to be canceled? on: September 23, 2015, 01:21:56 AM
Can not cancel something that is build into the design.

What is made by one human can be unmade by another human (and most certainly will be). Personally, I wouldn't count on this...

Laws carved in stone are rewritten in blood

Man, that is the lamest thing I've heard. They don't have the power you think they do. Just by virtue of having been made by a person does not mean that it will be remade, changed or destroyed by another. Sure, the government of North Korea could repeal the US constitution and impose whatever new Kim is the dictator at the time... but I'm quite right in living my life assuming that's never going to happen. Bitcoin is a system where the halving is very, very unlikely to be delayed or cancelled by the miners or pools. If they do, it is a failed experiment, like DOGEcoin, and would have to be left to slowly die as something better takes its place.
503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bear Market on: September 22, 2015, 11:01:02 PM
Depends. If you're talking about doge, it'll last forever. Doge is done, dead, gone. It is a lost cause. As for others, it depends. Litecoin recently went through a halving, it didn't do much except for an exceptional pump (followed by an exceptional dump). It sits at about twice it was at 4 months ago, but it's still in a bear market. I think it's going to be riding below $5 for the rest of the year. Maybe we'll see $6 sometime in 2016, if it acts like how bitcoin did with it's first halving, we're going to see a significant rise sometime December... but it's a whole other market right now. We're going to see a slow and somewhat steady rise to $7 until the next halving.
And I wouldn't know about the rest of them, I don't know enough to comment about the rest of them.

Why do you think DOGE is dead?

Why are you waiting for a significant rise of LTC in December 2015? When is the next halving of LTC?

DOGE goes against one of Bitcoin's most important basics, limited distribution. There are no more halvings in DOGE, and there is a fixed amount that's being distributed for each block. There are always more DOGEcoin and the market will mostly be saturated because this coin a joke. Or to put it in Dogecoin's community terms "Wow, such meme use. much irrelevancy". There is not a large enough community behind it, there is a virtually unlimited supply and nothing is there to help it pick up (no more halvings), it shows no sign of ever picking up above 100 satoshi value. It is done.

As for Litecoin, it went through a significant boost in price followed by a crash. Bitcoin also did this before its first halving. If Litecoin follows the same pattern bitcoin did after it's halving, it'll be at about the same price for 2 months after the halving to steadily rise during and maybe a bit after the third month. It's a coin toss,  to be honest, because I don't know if it will follow that pattern. I will hold on to my Litecoin until December.
504  Economy / Economics / Re: Why do people keep saying BTC is dead?! on: September 20, 2015, 05:16:58 PM
People don't like what they don't truly know. There's a lot of people that hear "digital currency" and think arcade tokens. "I'm not gonna spend my money on that, it's just play-money for the internet." the fact that it went down in price make people think that the now ATH ($1000) will never be reached again, because hey, "how much would you spend in some bits and bytes!?" people have a hard time thinking about the value of things that are not physical.
Who would know the rights to a comic book character would be worth a lot!? I would have a hard time wrapping my head around that if somebody told me to buy the rights to x-men in the 90s, when marvel was selling them. If someone told me "you got to get the rights to Wolverine and Cyclops, man!". It would sound crazy.
There's tons of silly things in our world that don't really make sense, but they work. And so, I just accept that they work. Bitcoin works, and I think it a very, very useful tool.

Bitcoin is now in a flat phase, I am confident that things are going to start picking up sometime next year. Bitcoin just needs some rest before all the craziness that's gonna ensue before during and after the upcoming halving. It's far from dead.

508  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it better to save money or invest it? on: September 02, 2015, 08:10:17 PM
Save or invest? The truth is that it doesn’t need to be a binary option, you can do both, both options are good but in a different way.

Saving is easier; just spend less than what you earn and you are already saving, saving is also cheaper, if you pay cash then you don’t need to pay interest rates and stuff like that.

Investing is putting your savings to work for you, and this is a lot harder, you’ll need to do research and due diligence in order to avoid scams and frauds, but if successful the rewards can be enormous, not only economic rewards but also intangibles, like less stress, more self confidence, etc.

I completely agree with this. Saving is easier and more certain. Investing is more difficult and risky, but you learn much more, you (could possibly) earn much more. It also depends on what you invest in.
It also has the possibility of becoming a full time job. And if you like putting your own money at stake for a living, it's good. I haven't been able to invest much, but I've already seen returns on the small amount I put forward. Even though the profit is $2, I feel good about it. I want it to be my job, and someday, it will. I dont think it's like gambling, gambling relies entirely on chance, and the house almost always wins. When you invest, you check what risks to run, you investigate the market, etc.

I personally prefer to invest than to save.
509  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling. Is It Wrong? on: September 02, 2015, 03:09:24 PM
Personally, I stay away from gambling ever since I realized that even with a small edge, the house always wins. What was that website with 40% (49%?) chance of you winning? Well, a few minutes at that, and I had flushed away BTC0.01, it's, I know. The point is that it's made to make you think you can game the system, making very small profits when your method is "working". Then, it just doesnt work, and you're back to not having profited, or in the red.

513  Other / Off-topic / Re: What do you do with most of your day? on: August 06, 2015, 01:35:18 AM
I spend most of my day with my friends at college. I spend most of my free time online, watching videos, looking for interesting news, browsing BitcoinTalk, reading webcomics, and looking at bitcoin's price.
514  Other / Off-topic / Re: What do you want to be in the future? on: August 06, 2015, 01:13:56 AM
I want to be a more responsible human being that cares more for the trials and tribulations that others go through. I want to be a Bitcoin Billionaire, and spend the rest of my days spending time online, exercising and with family... maybe learn french, too.

517  Other / Off-topic / Re: What phone do you use and what do you think about it? on: August 03, 2015, 01:24:26 AM
I just got a Sony Experia E4G. I think it's a great for its price. I like most smartphones just the way they are. So long as they don't get slow with four apps on standby, I'll be fine. My previous phone got stolen, so I had to use a Samsung Galaxy Y pro. It was great for its time, but now... damn, I'm just so happy to have a decent, recent smart phone again.

Have you tried reddit? Reddit is strictly forum-based, I wouldn't know how you could get to selling stuff on reddit. I got a voat.co account I think I could help you with, if you want to use their reddit-like layout (it's currently invite-only).
519  Other / Off-topic / Re: What do you do when you're sad? on: August 02, 2015, 06:57:15 PM
I sleep a lot, watch youtube... and try to look at the privileges that I have, see how much better I am off, compared to other people. Then go on with my life, in hopes to help those doing worst off once I get a job (I'm studying at the moment). Because they've helped place my life in perspective.

It's actually pretty rare to see other fish-people on the surfacedweller's internet. What brings you here? Me, I just got sick of all the fish-people's pictures of their pet octopuses on the underwater web.

Yes they can be insufferable. Octopus memes are totally out of control down there. Remember grumpy squid? Roll Eyes

Every. Fucking. Monday. Ugh, I like sufacedweller internet better.
