501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Exporting all private keys with Bitcoin Core and upload them to cloud on: August 13, 2017, 01:33:27 AM
Anyway this HD stuff seems magic to me.
How can a single little "seed phrase" can restore  for example all my 15,845 addresses? ?
Wow

A private key is nothing more than a very big number.  It can be represented in various formats, but by the time the wallet is using it, it is nothing more than a very big number.

That being said, the "Seed phrase" is nothing more than a way to encode a number (a very big number) using words instead of digits.

The actual HD processes is a bit (but not much) more complicated than this, but here's an example of how a seed phrase can restore 15,845 private keys.

Imagine that you pick a very big number and convert it to a seed phrase.
  • Now imagine that you add 1 to that very big number and use the result as a private key (you calculate the public key from it, and then the address from that).
  • Now imagine that you add 2 to that very big number and use the result as a private key (you calculate the public key from it, and then the address from that).
  • Now imagine that you add 3 to that very big number and use the result as a private key (you calculate the public key from it, and then the address from that).
  • Now imagine that you add 4 to that very big number and use the result as a private key (you calculate the public key from it, and then the address from that).
  • Now imagine that you add 5 to that very big number and use the result as a private key (you calculate the public key from it, and then the address from that).
  • ...
  • Now imagine that you keep doing this 15,845 times  (each time you calculate the public key, and then the address from the resulting private key).

When you are done, you have 15,845 different private keys that each have their own public key and address.

As long as nobody knows your seed phrase, they are not able to find your starting point, and are therefore NOT able to generate your sequence of 15,845 private keys.

As long as you DO know your seed phrase, you can figure out your starting point, and therefore ARE able to generate your sequence of 15,845 private keys.

Please note, this is NOT exactly how HD wallets work.  It is just a simplified example of how a single seed phrase could "restore for example all your 15,845 addresses".

so the seed phrase determines both the starting point and the pseudorandom sequence for generating addresses / keys, correct?
502  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Need suggestions for a first time setup on: August 13, 2017, 01:23:09 AM
Im familiar with the basics of mining, but not familiar enough to know what miners would fit my needs.
Im looking specifically for a miner that is fairly quiet, doesnt require a lot of other hardware to set up, and won't produce too much heat. This being said, im fully willing to set up a miner with a lower hash rate than the powerhouses that are available today. Also, electricity is not a concern in the miner i buy, the main concerns are the price of the miner, noise, and heat.
If you have suggestions and personal experience with a miner that fits the criteria im looking for, id much appreciate what you've got to say. I'll probably be buying the miner itself in the next month or two.
503  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: help with importing pvt keys please on: August 12, 2017, 11:19:21 PM
So if you have 1548 private keys in a text file, one per each line, you can import this file with Electrum in one go.
Provided that each line has a WIF key and not other format

Is it possible with Bitcoin Core as well?

How about exporting? I want to export all of my keys in one go possibly in one file with one line per key.
Possibly WIF keys but that's not important, i may run a script that converts them to WIF
did some looking and found this:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=886599.msg9805886#msg9805886

If you have some text-edit finesse, you can turn a list of keys into a list of import commands. From another thread:

Code:
"C:\Program Files\Bitcoin\daemon\bitcoind.exe" importprivkey L4mP3joYEhSv1ofdsWbz8xEmqCmYK9vGyi8mJmWWbh79Xx2NsS1M addr-1DfyaDvr-1 false
"C:\Program Files\Bitcoin\daemon\bitcoind.exe" importprivkey Ky2EGjWLhfKv1sWnPcuN4SHF2iALj6SfK7hoLWKx5T4zMqXg7aT9 addr-1DfyaDvr-2 false
"C:\Program Files\Bitcoin\daemon\bitcoind.exe" importprivkey KzrZ4DULdVWFqpF48pdJicFJfX5dqrhxBkqDnT4HRkCswdFy3Eo4 addr-1DfyaDvr-3 false
"C:\Program Files\Bitcoin\daemon\bitcoind.exe" importprivkey L2ELWXewr1PQnMwFDpfobHFqspyM6g1noM4uzkCMgoSZTSf3sQJF addr-1DfyaDvr-4 false
Just make the final line "true" to reindex.

im not sure how the actual importing would go, but seems like you can work your way through it starting with this.
really though, if youre going to import 1500 keys use a light wallet. unless you set scan to false, its going to take an absurdly long time.

All payouts for Week 2 have been sent! Thanks everyone!

subSTRATA, let me find out why your address wasn't included.
Update: Sent your payout just now and Decoded has updated the spreadsheet with your address. Smiley
can confirm both; thanks for resolving the issue in a timely manner.
505  Economy / Services / Re: 🎮 ENJIN 🎮 Signature Campaign - BIG reward on: August 12, 2017, 02:16:06 AM
I was notified that I was credited for my posts but did not receive any form of payment yet,
just checking in to see if this was a mistake or if this is still In progress?

I have not received payment yet either, but most of the others have. In addition, the address space next to my name in the spreadsheet was left blank. I've pmed decoded regarding this and ill wait a bit for this to be resolved before contacting others regarding the issue.
506  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mining Cloud. May or Not? on: August 11, 2017, 12:43:47 PM
Do you all (cryptocurrency experts) recommend us (the newbie) to invest in the mining cloud?
Your answer will be a valuable science for beginners (newbie). Thanks.
That depends to you. Are you willing to wait and risk? Im asking you because this is not an easy money because this may take a long time to take back you roll of investments. Usually cloudmining is for long term investments. But the risk is, how long will they operate their cloudmining? Many cloudmining just ran away this together with the investor's money. And even your you already get your roll of investments, i don't think it can give you a decent profit.

First thing you should do is to study first. Make a research how it works.
Good to see that you are asking our opinions about cloudmining. And for me, cloudmining is not profitable anymore. But still, it's up to you. Best of luck.
even if you plan with long term in mind, youve got to account that the difficulty will increase, and the first thing about a business; a business (cloud mining) will not sell you anything unless they are making money off of it. their objective is to make money, not provide a handout. its very unlikely that you will reach ROI in a reasonable amount of time that justifies your investment.

thats not cloud mining, thats a ponzi scheme under the guise of a cloud mining operation.
507  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How does Bitcoin ATM work? on: August 11, 2017, 08:13:02 AM
More Bitcoin ATM installed. How does Bitcoin ATM work? Does Bitcoin has a really coin which could be withdrawed?
no its not an actual, physical coin. I havent seen one in person, but from what i understand, its a network - connected machine that would ask you to send an amount of coins to a specified address and then would spit out fiat currency based on the exchange rates, allowing you to 'withdraw' your coins.
508  Local / 한국어 (Korean) / Re: New moderator needed on: August 11, 2017, 06:18:28 AM
Would complete fluency in korean be a requirement for this? I am a native born korean, and korean is my first language, but i wouldn't consider myself fluent. However, i dont think that i would have any trouble keeping up with reports. If this is a disqualifying factor in your eyes theymos, i completely understand.
if you've anything you'd want to ask me please do shoot me a pm, i plan to be fairly active on the forums again.
509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: help with importing pvt keys please on: August 11, 2017, 12:01:30 AM
i have about 100 pvt keys from a few old wallets how can i import them all in 1 go i tryed electrum but can only do 1 at a time the keys are in this format

xprv[mod edit: remainder of private key removed]
if you're trying to import them into electrum there's no way around it, unless you mean you're importing one key at a time and then restarting the import process. just in case that is the case, you can copy and paste all your keys on separate lines and import all 100 in one go. it'll involve a lot of copy and paste, but I think that's what you're looking for, sorry if I'm wrong.

I would provide screenshots but im not able to at this time, so an example:
on the text input box, you would enter

key1
key2
etc.

510  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Who paid me?! on: August 10, 2017, 11:49:48 AM
So I received a BTC payment at my Coinbase wallet but I don't know where it came from (yes, I receive payments from many places and try to keep track of most).

On my Coinbase I get this transaction link: https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/tx/5bbb8f07c8e2f575b140e2d0492bbfb988a1b780be8f8f409bab23d2b02ff0d7/

Can anyone help me understand?

Thanks
There's really no way to find out unless you're able to link those specific addresses to a person / identity. someone probably made a mistake and copy + pasted the wrong address or something, leaving you with free money.
511  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Yobit INVESTBOX on: August 10, 2017, 07:52:49 AM
I have been using BTC invest of 0.2% for about 3 days now, and all payments have been made. Also have a investment on dogecoins that has paid me for about a week until coins dried out. Then they recharged it a days later and reinvested, and have received my coins without problem so far.

personally, i dont think a week or so of paying out is enough to call it safe, even if yobit's been around for a while.

Maybe they are paying for the service, but the Ger investment plan makes it suspicious for me. Because, the minimum investment for that plan is 10000000 Ger, which are equal to 1.9 BTC at the moment (i just checked it in Yobit) and the daily payback is 20% on that plan, which means you will get your ROI in just 5 days and the sixth day will give you around 0.35+BTC pure profit, which doesn't seem to be true to me.

i had to take a look after reading your comment, i didnt think you were actually serious. Looks like they have a variety of plans with differing interest rates and payment periods, but yeah, 20% a day is ridiculous for what is essentially a handout out of a 'special fund' theyre claiming to have.
I get theyre a pretty established and large altcoin exchange, but i dont know if they have the luxury to just be handing out coins. Not saying its a definite, but id steer clear of this until otherwise proven.
512  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM: shms on: August 10, 2017, 03:17:04 AM
can you provide proof that he scammed you such as convo logs, txid's, and anything relaying to your interaction with the user? as of now there's just your word and nothing else.
also, if you're claiming he has alt accounts, please post their names with whatever evidence you have linking those accounts to one another.

Guys!

If anyone is interested - please let me know Wink
hey, send me a pm with what kind of articles youre looking for and the price range youre offering. if you could provide examples of what youre looking for that'd be helpful; ill see if i have time to dedicate to this and if its worth doing afterwards. I dont keep up with the esports scene nearly as much as i used to but i'll see.
514  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is Yobit.net Investment Good or Scam? on: August 10, 2017, 01:12:21 AM
There was discussion about that in one thread. They offer us really good %, imagine daily 0.2%, in 100 day you will get 20% return and in one year you get 73%. Who the hell cares about working, just invest in yobit and your life will be amazing (joke of course). Guys if this would be microsoft, I would trust but yobit? No way, no one will work for you and give so huge percent, it works for now but many people will cry if they invest here.
Honestly its risky to invest in yobit but since its an old trading site and still now its alive you can invest but i can not guaranteed that your bitcoin will be safe.. and yobit is well know super delay in support and look at the yobit account here in forum they are scam accusation and receive a negative trust from DT so if you want to invest without worrying about your money you can invest but i can not say that investing in yobit is safe..
Anytime soon that trading site can be scam and down. or that site can be legit but they are just delayed in support responds.
I've been gone far too long, didn't see they had open scam accusations. I've looked around, and even though their forum account has been online at the very least recently, it seems the complaints against them have not been getting resolved. I know their customer support is pretty terrible, but they've managed to resolve their issues in the past. until those issues are resolved and their intents behind this investment system are explained publicly, I'd advise against sending any coins to yobit.

516  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fun seeking gamblers vs profit seeking gamblers on: August 09, 2017, 09:12:02 AM
My main goal in the gambling game is to find pleasure. I do not want a profit, because when my goal is to make a profit then I will get caught in addiction. Already a lot of my friends who experience this, so do not ever serious with gambling game. Gambling is a very risky thing, make gambling as an entertainment and we can live very comfortably.
fun is fun by all means, but i don't think gambling for profit necessarily dictates an addiction, there are plenty of professional poker players out there that play strictly for money. not to say they arent addicts, which very well may be the case, but theyre making a living off of something they are extremely good at. However, i think the fundamental distinction between a casual gambler and a profit seeker is in the mindset; a casual might just seek out whatever games seem enjoyable at the time to play, whereas the latter would likely stick to a game where they can have influence over the outcome for a positive EV (ie, poker).
517  Economy / Reputation / Re: Can a default trust member (Lauda) arbitrary destroy other people's reputation?? on: August 09, 2017, 12:07:07 AM
If you endure so much trouble for people's well-being what is this ? Really, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1850924.0

[img ]https://i.imgur.com/B1xHJV3.jpg[/img]
Your point I assume is that he chides someone for investing in what he thinks is trash, and promotes a coin that you think is trash? One mans trash is another mans treasure, I don't think that point stands. Or were you pointing out that he called someone an idiot for investing in something he doesn't like, and that that somehow means he was working against their well-being? I think the opposite is true, if the opinion is genuine then I think it's fine to point out that he thinks it's a bad decision, and certainly is in their well-being. Arguably he could have put it "nicer", but it gets the point across well, and I got a laugh at the way the opinion was delivered. It doesn't seem to be a personal attack.

I can't believe I've spent so much time reading all of this thread and replying, but it's fun to delve into forum nonsense once in a while. My opinion that no one asked for is *drumroll* ... Lauda did a minor thing that they had every right to do, and shills responded in force. I've been following DeepOnion for a few days, even going so far as to create an account on their forum, asked some questions, I have a DeepOnion wallet. I think it's an interesting coin, but I also disagree (yet find amusing) how some have been incensed, and organised themselves into action over this. It's a disgusting side of internet culture (culture in general really), but fascinating. I just had to watch Grin
very well said, couldn't have said it better myself. people butt heads over their opinions on here all the time; presenting your opinion with reasons as to why x is a bad idea / scam as to dissuade others from dumping their money and time is more often than not met with shills and sockpuppets here of all places. sure lauda could've been less crass in how he put it in the quoted comment, but it stands there's reasoning behind it, and not at all just a personal attack. I've personally had zero negative interactions with lauda and have no reason to believe he would throw around his opinions without being able to back them up.
518  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is Yobit.net Investment Good or Scam? on: August 08, 2017, 11:57:07 PM
You will get lots of pictures like that right now and they are actually paying but no one knows when they will scam you. It is a same old strategy of every scamming company. So be aware and invest what you will not mind if it lost.
yobit's been around a while, I mean, they've had problems in the past, but just about any operation will. I've been gone from the forum for a while now so this investing option they have is news to me; however, as stated above, 7.3% interest apr doesn't seem all that unreasonable, although I must admit it seems a tad high for being generally risk free (to my understanding, correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't read their announcement post on this, if someone could link that for me that'd be much appreciated).
519  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Micro hash/Legit or Scam on: August 08, 2017, 10:03:39 PM
However 100GHS a limit cap seems like an issue, and 10% a day guarantee  seems a bit questionable

this is just a quick shot off a mining calculator
[im g]https://i.imgur.com/s5AlXAJ.png[/img]

that aside, everything this site seems to be promising are just out of the realm of possibility; 10%+ of initial investment a day with just 100gh/s, and roi in 7 days? nah.
keep in mind the screenshot above isnt even accounting for difficulty increases. tbh can't think of it as anything other than a ponzi, id stay far, far away.
Unless they show extensive evidence of them actually owning the miners i wouldnt consider them a legitimate operation.

They payout. Can't be all that bad.

not true at all. just about every one of these schemes, even the ones that blatantly advertise themselves as a ponzi pay out at the start to either attract more investors in the hopes of a payout, even though many of them might be fully aware what they're getting into, or to just keep the illusion going longer to attract more investors.
520  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What are ways to earn bitcoin (cloud mining, lending, etc) besides trading. on: August 08, 2017, 07:22:00 AM
All of them i like most TRADING. its my favorite work. Although its like gambling but i don't thik so. I believe my skill, so if anyone is good in crypto he can easily earn profit from crypto currency trading. Just need to know which one coin is potential and has a good future.I am a regular crypto trader and my earning is also good now.
I don't know about cloud mining, lending, etc i only like to do trade.
true, trading can be extremely profitable, granted you have the time to do research and keep up on altcoins. its also worth noting that whatever you may profit off of trading depends largely on an available bankroll and the ability to take losses on bad investments. imo i think it's pretty hard for new people to get into altcoin trading without a large time and money investment. then again i havent really tried getting deep into altcoin trading, but id imagine getting a feel for market trends and patterns takes quite a bit of time and lost investments along the way.
