501  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Modified Kernel for Phoenix 1.4 on: May 26, 2011, 04:39:25 AM
My experience with my 5870 shows that worksize=128 works the best. With worksize=256 I show a slightly higher hashrate but overall submitted shares goes down a bit.
502  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: New computer running Nvidia GPU's that can mine faster than our ATI rigs. on: May 25, 2011, 02:19:03 PM
Tesla cards are good for double point precision calculations which is good for science simulations where accuracy is paramount. Bitcoin mining relies on raw mathing power where accuracy isn't as important as speed. Yes, I just said mathing. Tongue

I still haven't gotten an email. How can I tell where my shares, if I have any yet, are?
504  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: You are threatening Bitcoin’s security on: May 20, 2011, 01:58:03 PM
If you're on DeepBit like I was give Eligius or Continuum a try. I like having the coins say generated in my client instead of just receiving payments from somewhere.
505  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Please test: New Experimental Pool "Eligius" on: May 20, 2011, 01:13:46 PM
My balance is showing OK on the EU page. I have .9 BTC on the US server so I would like to at least get to the payment threshold on that sometime. Tongue
506  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Please test: New Experimental Pool "Eligius" on: May 20, 2011, 11:42:06 AM
Is the US server down? I can only connect to the EU one.
507  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Continuum Mining Pool: Direct payouts, client monitors via email and twitter on: May 20, 2011, 11:27:59 AM
Anyone want to setup a neat graph thingy like someone did for Eligius? I am lazy. Tongue

But the good thing about a free market is it doesn't matter which one of us is right, because nobody's going to force anyone else to accept one way or the other.

I've been mining for a few months now and I started on Slush's then switched to Bitcoin Pool then switched to Deepbit then switched to Eligius. This morning before I finally went to sleep I decided to give solo mining on my video card a try. Went and did stuff today and when I got home a couple hours ago I had already found a block! I had "found" blocks a few times when I was pooled mining but this is my first whole solo block and I am one happy camper. What are the odds? Tongue

I'm doing 1.7Gh/s with CPU mining, so no, do not wipe CPU =)

There is separate mining software... it can and should be removed from the wallet software.  Also, I don't believe you unless you have a cluster.  Even my phenom II can only pull out 12 MH/s.

Which company is paying your electricity costs? Or school? Sounds like a sysadmin decided to try running bitcoin until his bosses notice.
511  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Monetizing the network on: May 16, 2011, 07:37:01 AM
But I thought the mining was to verify transactions, which creates coins? I may have misunderstood an article about it though... Anyway, if the computation power would be used for research, who would verify payments and create coins?

Mining verifies the transactions. The horsepower is used to ensure that the block of transactions isn't fraudulent and that coins aren't being double spent. Coins aren't created. All of them exist in the system's code. They are just given out at a specified rate, decreasing towards zero, as a reward for helping run the network and to get them into circulation.
512  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: [MINER] Phoenix - New efficient, fast, modular miner **BFI_INT support!** on: May 15, 2011, 10:21:05 AM
The last few days I have been getting a lot of Miner Queue is Empty errors. I've tried adjusting the askrate and turning the aggression down but neither seems to help. It is causing me to get a lot of rejected shares which is really annoying. Anyone have any tips on how to fix this? It does it with poclbm and phatk.

What pool/server are you connecting to?

Eligius

515  Economy / Economics / Re: Non Technical Analysis of BitCoin Market on: May 15, 2011, 07:08:18 AM
One of my writer did an analysis of the possible causes for the rise of bitcoin prices: http://bitcoinweekly.com/articles/causes-behind-the-bitcoin-price-rally

I have to througly disagree with the idea is that bitcoin is a mere investment stock. People are actually using it to fund companies, sell foods, etc.

I bought a 5870 using dollars. Once that was payed off from mining I then bought portal 2 using bitcoins I mined. I just ordered a 5850 using some more of my mined bitcoins. I intend to keep flipping my mined coins or invest some on glbse once I familiarize myself with the interface.

Just finished buying an Amazon gift card code. Took a little while to get a response to my PM but after that it went fast and smooth. Will trade with again sometime soon.

+1 Tycho. Most people wouldn't be so nice. Sounds like some of the people attacking mt. gox have been looking for other attack vectors.
