Both of those look like very promising applications.  I'll check them out in more detail later on...

Sounds like ubitio.us does exactly what I want already, but it doesn't make mention of what the commissions are, etc.

Here's the wiki list that I know of...

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Trade

Only one site is listed under payment processors, and that's bit-pay (who does not currently offer or plan to offer a digital goods hosting and download service).

I can't find anything else related to what I am looking for on the site either...
5023  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Digital goods service? on: February 20, 2012, 06:52:55 PM
I don't know markm.  I haven't heard of any such services - that's why I started this thread, to find them!
5024  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How did you guys get into bitcoin? on: February 20, 2012, 06:46:11 PM
I saw the post about it on Lifehacker and started mining on my 8800GT right away. Obviously that didn't work very well, so I upgraded to 2 6870s last September. Smiley

Hey, my 8800GT is getting me some 25Mhash/s.  I'm getting ready to see if my old 8600GT will work as well.  Eventually, I might upgrade (I speced out my very own 8-core, 16GB, 3 VGA, 18TB server... just under $3000.  What fun that would be, especially if I sunk the whole thing in mineral oil and overclocked the crap out of it.

(the CPU and HDD would obviously be used for other tasks)

Yeah, vats of boiling oil are always fun!

Make it like a regular file hosting site with options to gate with bitcoin payment. Maybe have a "one time" per payment option and a "permanent access" option. Uploader sets price, but you take a % and have a min fee.

If you emphasize uploader accounts people could use their "channel" to build a rep by posting some free content and some gated content.

Are you going to police content?
I was thinking one time and permanent access would be options that the seller would set.  Some sellers may want to provide permanent access to everyone, and others might want to only have a one-time download.

It wouldn't be for free content - only paid content.  No pages chock-full of advertisements or anything like that.  It wouldn't be a mega-upload.  And yes, content would be policed according to my own local laws and regulations.  The seller has to be the holder of the copyright for the material, no CP, etc.  I'm not one to put myself in a position to get into trouble with the law.  Wink

This would mostly be a service that would make it easy for small-time musicians or other artists to legitimately sell their works for BTC without having to manually do anything.

Bitcoin Exchange's Crisis Bodes Ill for Payment Innovation

http://www.americanbanker.com/issues/177_34/bitcoin-tradehill-exchange-digital-currency-risks-licensing-1046795-1.html?pg=1

Quite well written article.
Indeed. This quote is interesting:

"To get around stringent state regulations, Bitcoin firms might switch from acting as a floating exchange, which TradeHill was, to a fixed rate exchange, Matonis says.

Floating exchanges hold customer funds while they match buy and sell orders. In this sense, they act as financial institutions. Fixed rate exchanges do not. They simply buy and sell Bitcoins like a commodity. Such an exchange would be exempt from state money transmitter regulations, Matonis says."
Interesting indeed.  It wouldn't even necessarily have to be a fixed rate either... just so long as the entity isn't holding on to customer funds.  Just base the price on some funky supply/demand curve, where the price will move X amount up for each Bitcoin bought, and X amount down for each Bitcoin sold.  The market will naturally keep it mostly balanced, albeit likely biased one direction or the other compared to a floating exchange.

If you are going to have a fixed rate that changes, why not just make it change to what it will cost you to replace the coins/dollars plus a fee? As long as there is one actual market even if it has onerous AML crap anyone who can trade there can run their own "not really an exchange" site.
Yeah, I was thinking along the lines of if all floating exchanges were banned.  But that doesn't really make sense looking at my last statement, "compared to a floating exchange."
5027  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Digital goods service? on: February 20, 2012, 06:21:28 PM
Does anyone offer or plan to offer a digital goods hosting and selling solution?  In other words, if I want to sell a digital good, but don't want to hassle with manually sending people emails with links to their content, and want it all done automatically, is there a place that does it all?  I upload the file to the site, and the customer is given access to the file through the site after they pay the BTC...

If no one currently knows of a service that does this for BTC, then I am considering starting such a service myself.  And I am open to suggestions on that front.

Cool, glad the winner stepped up!  I was hoping it wouldn't look like I just took it myself or something... haha.

What's interesting is, there's no log on the site, so there's no way to see what address it was sent to.  Hopefully whoever won it will post here.

Here's the wallet BTW, quick link to it.

I'm a conservative.  I believe we have the best government in the world, but it's still a bad government.  I think there is huge amounts of room for improvement towards reducing corruption and reducing the size of government, but I absolutely believe that a minimal amount of government oversight is necessary to conduct business and livelihood in a modern world.
5033  Other / Off-topic / Re: Idea: Ban a user for $10 in Bitcoins. on: February 18, 2012, 06:23:35 AM

I mean, there would be some stupid noob who would do this to people like Phinnaeus or D&T when they got some terse answer they didn't like, for chrissake, not to mention LoupGaroux would be gone in a heartbeat and I would no longer have a master troll to learn from...

ROTFL

My first $10 would go to banning the OP.
Cheesy

I'd contribute to that cause.  Let's hope he has deep pockets to keep buying himself back in.

I must be doing something wrong, but I've donated 2 times to these addresses (the ones under the thumbnail) and the picture size doesn't increase or anything.. whats up? D:
I don't know.  I see two recent payments.  One with 7 conf, one with 18 conf.  The website promises that the image detail will increase within 30 minutes of a payment being sent, and at least the first payment was sent much longer than 30 minutes ago.

Might be something wrong with the site?  I'd keep a close eye on it though, in case it does suddenly expand.
Okay, I'll check it every here and there, hopefully it updates.. I want that coin Cheesy
Indeed!  13 and 24 confirms on those transactions now.  It definitely should have updated the picture for both of those payments.

Someone needs to summarize these into categories with some sort of bar chart.

The rich win control everywhere else in the world.  Do they really need to win control here too?
I don't think anyone has a inherent right to a say in a forum community. The people who are willing to invest money into it likely have the most to gain or lose out of anyone and they should have the ability to represent their desires with their own assets.

...but, hey, if you want "free" forum moderation, BitcoinTalk might be the place for you. I am not proposing this for this forum but for a new one.
Start one up, see how everyone likes it.  My guess is, they won't.

It's much harder to determine break-even when you add A/C into the mix.  That's the part I'm having trouble with.  Multiple window A/C units throughout the house, along with miners, and the best way for me to determine actual costs is just to compare electric bills this year with last year.  I think I determined that it was costing me around $300 in electricity for 1.8 GH/s last summer... now I'm down to 1.4 GH/s, after dropping a card and lowering overclocks.  Maybe $225 in electricity required now.  To cover that, I'd need to make 1.7 BTC/day at current prices.  1.4 GH/s only makes me 1.0 BTC/day right now.  So.... if I have to turn on the A/C, I'll be turning off my miners first.
