5021  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: April 09, 2013, 06:36:45 PM
Litecoin still has a bright future as backup payment protocol. Love to see devs working on this and business expanding.
5022  Economy / Economics / Re: We need BTC at 4$ again... on: April 09, 2013, 06:30:22 PM
Just look at Bitcoin a buying shares. You know your share when holding a Bitcoin (1/21,000,000), only the price fluctuates. Unless banks make International payments 24/7 and nearly free, there will be a place for Bitcoin.

I consider the only real risk a hack of the protocol. If Bitcoin does not encounter such the next 18 months, people don't know better than that Bitcoin is safe. If that happens, the current price run up will only be laughed at. Just keep your 'shares' safe and spend if you see something nice.
5023  Economy / Speculation / Re: 20 calls a day from large asset managers looking to invest up to $100m. on: April 09, 2013, 06:25:14 PM
The saturation in the phone market is already there. Hardware is dead with perfect Android phones for $125 from China. Only in terms of camera I still see some room for actual progress. I carry a 2010 Android phone and don't feel like I need something newer. I think more people will switch to this approach in the future and really stick to their phone for at least 2-4 years.
5024  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price Chart: April 9th = $200, April 15th = $300 on: April 09, 2013, 06:19:26 PM
It's simple price discovery. Do the Math and understand why people got in.... Just after the Great 2011 Gox Crash...
5025  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Flattr to start using bitcoin on: April 09, 2013, 06:17:00 PM
Flattr is really a nice idea and ideal for Bitcoin micropayments on the Net. Lets award good content (also an opportunity for the press).
5026  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why such agreement that Deflationary currency is a bad thing on: April 09, 2013, 06:07:03 PM
Deflation is "bad" in the way that it postpones consumption.

Imagine you wanted to buy a new TV set and you knew that next month its price would be lower, it would be quite rational for you to postpone your shopping until next month.
But then again, next month, you would knew that the price will drop more if you wait more...

Deflation is good for hoarding, bad for consumption whereas
Inflation is good for consumption, bad for hoarding.

You are spreading the fallacy again. Of course I would wait a month if the price of that TV is expected to be 100% then. Probably the same with 10% a month price decrease. But now let's assume that Bitcoin matured and reaches a stable stadium. The annual deflation is about 2%

Would you hoard for 80 years of your life and never ever buy that TV until you die or will you finally put this bad thinking out of your system and realise that the only thing of value you have is : time. No one gets more time per second than anyone else. People will spend if deflation is mild. They spend now as well while technology improves by leaps every year. People cannot and will not wait their whole life to get a piece of the action.

But fair enough, if BTC remains there, our points will be tested and tried and there is nothing we can do about it  Kiss
5027  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 09, 2013, 07:19:44 AM
Epic thread is nearing $1,000 1,000 pages. Would be nice to celebrate with a new ATH.
5028  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Future Bitcoin millionaires - will you cash out when you hit $1M? on: April 09, 2013, 06:43:03 AM
Getting rid of debt is a noble cause.
5029  Economy / Speculation / Re: I am going to sell my bitcoin. on: April 09, 2013, 06:39:43 AM
A dollar in cash, paper in your hand, could become very valuable if all that debt must vanish. Of course, you should not have a debt yourselves then.
5030  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-04-03 Unqualified Reservations: Felix Salmon's Bitcoin FUD on: April 09, 2013, 05:17:40 AM
...
to turn full negative in the last 3 paragraphs with some doggerel about "banking is a cornerstone of democracy".

BWAHAHA.

You may want to rethink this over and contemplate whether modern capitalism (the free version, what's left of it) cold work without some form of banking. Personally, I think banking is an essential element of our society. Don't mistake the current situation for what it actually should have been.
5031  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why are people taking such a huge risk in holding a currency that could collapse on: April 09, 2013, 05:09:13 AM
Actually, holding physical cash may be a very good short term 'investment'. Remember Cyprus?
5032  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Devcoin QT Wallet For Windows Users Discussion Thread on: April 09, 2013, 04:54:53 AM
After you downloaded all the files, did you put them into the appdata folder for devcoin and after you did that did you reopen it so it resynches?

I did exactly so, but the client does not show any connections, also not after a while.
debug.log output, otherwise i cant help you!

Is this a command that needs to be given at a command line?
5033  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bloomberg / Bitcoin & You on: April 08, 2013, 07:39:12 PM
The fun part is = no shock breakers (other than the infamous Gox lag).

This so called 'Crash' would be over before you know it, because its a totally free market. In essence, it would be a good thing for Bitcoin.
5034  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Magazine - Why Bitcoin Is Just Getting Started by Trace Mayer on: April 08, 2013, 10:09:52 AM
One could imagine that Gox is actively selling to stem the price from melting up. In specific cases, just mess up the system, declare lag or DDos and actively manage the price upwards bit by bit. Not implying or accusing anyone but it could have some truth in it.
5035  Economy / Economics / Re: Why do people think one Bitcoin will be worth $1000 (or more) on: April 08, 2013, 10:04:26 AM
People not familiar with Bitcoin don't see a difference.  They say that anyone can start a new type of coin tomorrow.  When you try to explain how it is difficult to gain traction for a new type of coin they just look at you funny.

I'm sure that if you're the US or the EU you could create a new coin and give it enormous traction. I expect that is coming: StateCoin. StateCoin will have many advantages. It wont be anonymous, so criminals wont be able to use it to do bad things to children. Even better, StateCoin will support remote confiscation, so the financial police will be able to get your money back if it is stolen.

Would you have faith in a Bitcoin that could be confiscated by a bureaucrat because it is labelled 'stolen'. Until recently, even bank accounts were deemed sacred (tax authorities need to attach a bank account; simple confisquation not allowed).

However, a decent State coin would certainly not be without merits. The State might as well just adopt Bitcoin once it has matured.
5036  Local / Nederlands (Dutch) / Re: Bitcoin op Geenstijl on: April 08, 2013, 07:11:09 AM
Over een jaar accepteert Geenstijl Bitcoins.
5037  Economy / Economics / Re: Why do people think one Bitcoin will be worth $1000 (or more) on: April 08, 2013, 07:09:58 AM
This is going to end well above $1,000.
5038  Economy / Speculation / Re: By December 31st, 2013 we will have touched $1000/BTC on: April 08, 2013, 07:08:48 AM
'There is no value, only Bitcoin'.
5039  Economy / Speculation / Re: Latest Bitcoin Chart Showing the Largest Trends since 2010 - 7th April 2013 on: April 08, 2013, 07:03:21 AM
The frenzy will end eventually.
5040  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Magazine - Why Bitcoin Is Just Getting Started by Trace Mayer on: April 08, 2013, 06:58:42 AM
