5021  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Anderson Silva vs Tito Ortiz on September 11 on: September 08, 2021, 11:35:24 PM
With that spirit, I think there is a good chance for him winning with a KO.

I have my doubts if Anderson Silva and his MMA techniques will be enough to knock out Tito Ortiz, in Boxing there is no favorite until the fight is over.
Spider has a moving ability that Tito probably doesn't have, but a single hard hit from Tito would make Spider fall apart easily and end the fight's brilliance.

Anyway, Boxing isn't a sport that I enjoy, but as I'm an Anderson Silva fan, I'm going to bet on it and keep up with it, hoping not to witness a tragedy.
Actually Anderson Silva said recently exactly what you mentioned: there is no favorites until the fight is over.
He is aware about his situation as a "newbie" boxer and will try to use all his skills and techniques learned from MMA against Ortiz. He knows he has to avoid punches and dodge in circles maximum as possible until Ortiz spends his energy and stamina. Maybe he can even hold some accurate jabs from Ortiz without compromising his performance, because it doesn't really look like Ortiz is much stronger than him.
5022  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC is helping out Cubans and Venezuelans on: September 08, 2021, 09:38:34 PM
I never expected Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies to be a panacea for our situation. However, since I discovered Bitcoin last year my finances and life are easier.
The government taking advantage of the situation was very predictable, in my opinion. Fortunately, people here who are within the crypto world not only have the mining as profit activity, people here also trade, stake and lately the blockchain games have become a fenomenom (it may not last forever).
On the bright side, there are plenty ways for us to protect our few savings for corrupts, thieves and bad people while being the only ones in control of our money.  All this while adoption keep increasing, slowly but steadily.
Good that you have how to prevent yourself from being blackmailed by corrupt government's agents, but I mean it's a shame citizens have to worry about being threatened and stolen by the people who they actually pay the wages and maintain in the public administration to work for the country. In my country things don't reach to this point, but in some aspects it's similar and I'm really nauseated for this reason. The corrupts always win in the end and since this reality won't change, I want to get out from this reality soon as possible...

About the impact of bitcoin in our daily life I totally agree with you, but I think it is just a palleative because to live in a society where you can trust people and enjoy social relationships without worrying about being cheated or scammed is also very important.

Of course, for some reason the government do not touch these businesses. Some speculate these are used for money laundering or that all the owners have ties with the administration. Just speculation.
They also leave alone the malls, the Macdonals, Timberland, Adidas, Sansumg stores, Diesel, ect..
Some time ago I saw a thread here showing Burguer King is accepting bitcoin as payment method in Venezuela. They must have some agreement with the government to deal with crypto currency without any legal problems, indeed. For the government it's interesting, because businesses are profiting and consequently paying their taxes.
5023  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Setting up a gambling business on: September 08, 2021, 07:44:10 PM
The most accurate informations that may help you you will find by talking with someone who already has experience in the gambling industry. Here you will hear many different opinions and guesses based on the personal beliefs of each one, but not necessarily on their own personal experiences.

The only thing I can recommend is that you look for a trustful programmer expert who can at least assist you when dealing with another programmers who will work in your gambling site. Also, make sure to hire employees in a legit platform or just pay them after the service is done. This way you won't get scammed or end with a poorly made website full of bugs and security flaws.

Anyway, before spending money in this project, make sure there is enough demand and make sure you can stay competitive in this market.
5024  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: September 08, 2021, 06:12:25 PM
Netherlands completely obliterated Turkey by a 6-1 score. It is a very embarrassing result for Turkey. I really don't know what happened to them. They were performing awesome before the Euro 2020. But something happened as of that tournament and here we are. Actually, they have powerful and talented players. Their game plan is just not working now. Maybe they can solve the problem with a better manager.

I don't think there is a powerful or talented player in the team. There are only a few players on the team who can play on an average team, and they are not enough. They are playing a worse football than we have seen for many years, it was impossible to score against the Netherlands anyway. I wish we hadn't seen such a different score, it's not nice Cheesy
I don't think this team has much chance to improve, we will see unsuccessful results in this way for a few more years

Turkey is having a very bad time now. Before they were a fairly stable team. Now there is no rhythm in their team. They show performance against smaller teams. But can't win against big team. They have defense problems. As long as the defense does not have experienced and talented players, their overall performance will not improve.
The problem is when a weaker team is too confident and wants to play from equal to equal against a visibly superior team. And that is when trashings like that happen. Weaker teams must play cauteously and defensively trying to get advantage from few opportunities they have to score, but mainly aiming a draw or for a penalties decision (depending the game). That is a kind of "tanker" strategy. Of course it's hard to execute it and the game becomes very boring for the audience, but I think this way weaker teams have more winning chances.

Turkey on this game against Netherlands and Armenia on its game against Germany could have been more focused in holding defensively, neutralizing adversaries' attacks to exhaust them along the game in order to avoid being trashed.
5025  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Uk most deprived areas have the Highest number of gambling outlets. on: September 08, 2021, 04:37:26 PM
How should they go about controlling these things? Should the government try and make laws to ban such behavior and such state? I think people should have a minimum wage for sure when it comes to gambling, what do you think ?

I think the topic was already discussed. I just can't remember who's the thread starter or I think it's you?
Yes, it has been already discussed and one of the possible reasons mentioned on why these businesses are localized in such areas it's because rents are cheaper for businessmen.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5356182.0

The fact that there are more gambling outlets in the deprived areas, people here have lots of opportunities to play with their luck. Since they are poor or let's say average earners, they can't avoid hoping for a big win. Maybe to regulate this or if the government have a plan of controlling the gambling behaviours in the deprived areas, they should limit the gambling owners and operators to establish gambling outlets in those areas.
I think people are free to to decide what to do with their lives or money and suffer or enjoy the consequences for their choices later. It's part of the free will guaranteed us by God and it goes much beyond the power or influence any social justice warriors think they have. People need to learn by their own mistakes or by advices given by others and there isn't another way besides those two options.
Prohibitions, law enforcements are a third option created by men, although they are useless.

For an example, you said gambling should be limited in deprived areas, however will that prevent people from these areas to go to another ones in order to keep gambling? As you can see the initial solution created another problem, that will need a new solution that will consequently create another problem. And things will keep getting complicated in an eternal chaotic cycle created by men, just because they can't stick with only those two initial alternatives which are the key for solving each one's personal difficulties in life.
5026  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC is helping out Cubans and Venezuelans on: September 08, 2021, 03:06:08 PM
...

I have known about Venezuelans for years using BTC (and Dash) as a partial substitute for their worthless currency and hard-to-get US dollar fiat.  Apparently these efforts have been quite helpful to those in Venezuela in a position to use cryptos to make their lives better.

Quite true, however one of the main reasons of the adoption here in Venezuela besides of the inflation (I personally have a cabinet full of worthless notes I use to repair old books) it is because the government have no control over the wallets and have no capacity to know whether uses Bitcoin/altcoins.

Because of the infamy of our government abroad, the exchanges here have an antagonistic relationship with them, so I am very sure exchanges do not provide much information (if any) of the users to the local government even if they ask for it.

Because the electricity here is basically free, it is common for people to try to mine, but (of course) the government wants their part, so one needs to "register" and get a permission to mine any coin.
If you try to mine without one, and get caught, you get your equipment seized (and probably used by corrupt military to mine) and thrown into a cell where you will stay until they want.

If you  get registered, you may get threats anyways by more corrupt agents claiming their piece of the cake. So being a miner here is not a good idea.

The lastest example:

https://www.cvbj.biz/2021/07/15/another-6-bitcoin-miners-were-arrested-in-venezuela/

Crypto is volume here is the biggest in Latinamerica, if I remember right.
For now, most of people prefer to hold USD, EUROS or gold. The high-volume may be due to remittances (a way to avoid government to take a percentage) or speculation to beat the bad salaries here.

There are also rumors about removing 6 zeroes this year off our currency.
By reading the experience you have in your country it makes me believe bitcoin alone isn't the solution for anything. In some cases crypto currencies can be even positive for the corrupt opressive government, as you mentioned state's agents ask for a piece of cake from crypto miners or steal the mining equipments from non registered miners. Furthermore, crypto helps the economy to not entirely collapse, what consequently calm down citizens and makes the regime lasts longer.

If corruption isn't fought in all its spheres in a society, with or without bitcoin, people will remain slaves of tyrants who take advantage of "the law of the strongest", or in this case "the law of the most corrupt" seems to fits better.

Based on the number of lottery tickets that some people have, it seems to be that some won the lottery thanks to tickets won by spinning the WOF.
Some or all of them? Cheesy
I was hopeful to win something on this round because I was receiving tons of tickets from wheel daily. I thought I have been lucky for winning twice 4100 or 4200 tickets, can't remember exactly, plus some other 40 and 400 tickets' prizes. At the moment of the draw I had about 10k tickets or something like that. Well, it looks like I wasn't lcuky as I expected after all.
It would be more worthful if instead of 10k lottery tickets I had received 10k RPs or satoshis haha!

Thanks to the WOF, I am approaching the 100k RP, currently at 93,000 points!
Almost there. With some luck you reach 100,000 by the next week! Wink

Moreover, someone can be a gambler, but also an investor at same time. Freebitco.in is perfect for ths kind of person because he will find all the features he needs there. By depositing, he can let his money working for him in a daily basis, while using part of this profit to gamble in another days. Everything at the same place. Very convenient, simple and accessible.

Its literally 0.01% per day so even if you have 1 btc in your account, you will get 0.0001 btc each day which is $5 at current rate. Thats a decent amount but why would you even risk depositing 1 btc into freebitco.in just to get $5 back daily? Thats 52k at current rate and no one in their right mind would do that and you will get even less if you deposit anything lower than 1 btc

I mean no offense to freebitco.in, its a great site but I just wouldnt put that much into my account
4% annual interest is the average legit percentage you will find in general. I think the real risk lies in demanding higher interest investments than those rates. Personally I haven't found anything too different from that with the exception of casino bankroll investments in past years which had potential to generate up to 50% annual interest, but that is over anyway.

I think many people don't bother about letting their money deposited in Freebitco.in, otherwise this money would be idle somewhere else generating zero income.

For me 5$ daily as extra income would be great. It's almost a wage in my country. And keep in mind if you don't spend this money the daily profits will keep increasing day by day. That is the power of compound interest, don't underestimate it.
5029  Economy / Economics / Re: Are Renewable Energy resources the future? on: September 06, 2021, 06:46:22 PM
What many people do not understand is that a fast transition is not going to be possible, there is too much money invested in the current technologies that we are using so it is going to take a lot of time before renewable sources of energy become the main source of energy around the world.

However as long as we can implement them and make a more efficient use of our energy then we are going to see improvements on the environment, and once enough time passes then a full transition will be possible, however I think this will take 4 to 5 decades at the soonest.

I agree with the first part, but not with the last. 5 decades is just too far. We don't have enough fossil fuels (including natural gas) to sustain us for that long. The big change needs to come in the next 10-15 years. Energy from renewable sources are getting cheaper with every passing year. I can give you an example. Solar electricity had a break-even price of around $0.40 per KWh just one decades ago. The same stands at $0.08 per KWh. And in the next 10-15 years, we can expect this to go down even further.
The point is that renewable sources of energy makes the whole ecosystem of energy generation a lot simpler, decentralized and since in most countries the main energy provider is the government, it means the state would stop collecting huge amounts of income from this service and many employees who work on the sector right now wouldn't be needed anymore.
I believe that is why there isn't decent investment and effort to improve renewable sources of energy production and adoption. The archaic model most of us have access and currently make use of is profitable for the ones who are on the top, so of course they won't want to change it at all. If there were legit interest from the whole society in renewable energy sources I believe we wouldn't even need to wait more 10 or 15 years to see it going mainstream, as it would be already happening right now.
5030  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Second largest German investment company invests in Bitcoin from Q4 2021 on: September 06, 2021, 05:27:15 PM
Bitcoin is on the rise so the announcements of institutional investments have resumed. There's hope that the ATH will be surpassed before the end of the year if there will be more positive news and bullish momentum.

So the investment will be limited to $7 million, not bad but would have been lovely to see at least double digits, especially since we're talking about a hundred billion investment fund. My other dilemma about those "certificates", will there be a requirement for companies that offer such products to actually hold the amount of BTC, or ...the usual gold paper with a promise of payment.

Even if the amount is small, it can inspire other potential investors to finally buy Bitcoin, which can in turn trigger chain reaction, like it happened earlier this year.
Yes, it's likely bitcoin will hit a new ATH soon and that another european investment funds adopt bitcoin in their portfolio because as we can see in the link shared by @stompix, this kind of adoption is only being possible because a new law passed in Germany recently allowing institutional funds to hold up to 20% of their total assets in Bitcoin.

The article also says about 415$ billion in Europe could be potentially converted into Bitcoin, if institutional investors adopt it, following the same trend there is now in Germany. That is indeed a lot of money, and although I believe it can become real, for now it's just speculation.

Betting and gambling on freebitcoin has been a thing since the start. If you think that the only people who gamble are people who get it from free faucet thing then you are in for a big surprise. How would freebitcoin ever make any profit at all if they were just giving stuff for free without getting anything in return?

There are so many people who gamble so much money daily, at one point I remember it was 150+ bitcoin daily wagered here, I do not know the last situation but I know that was the case for a while, which means about 7.5 bitcoin per day earning for them daily, yet that is just average expected, there are probably days when they lose money and there are probably days they win more, plus we do not know what the number is right now neither. So long story short there are tons of people who deposit a lot of money here to gamble.
I was checking the stats tab to count the wagers in real time there I saw 1 BTC was wagered in about 20 seconds. It's about 3 Bitcoins per minute, or 180 hourly! At current rates 180 Bitcoins are proportional to 9,180,000$!
It means you are correct as only income from faucet claims would be impossible to fit on those statistics. Despite the high house edge, I believe people deposit money to gamble there because the promotions and extra advantages offered by the site, like RP points, lottery tickets, cashback which can achieved just by gambling normally at the site.

5032  Economy / Economics / Re: Is there a possibility of a Country to ban access to Crypto games? on: September 05, 2021, 11:48:33 PM
It is not possible to ban a decentralized game, but the government can ban connections to the game using its firewall system. And of course, only China has such strict control, besides Russia and China, I can't think of any other country that can afford it but the US. Of course, the US is in favor of crypto.
Recently, the Philippine government wants to tax Axie players. That is no good.
This has come to the point why the government is hunting those who play Axie Infinity and those who earn big amounts from gambling as they keep posting on social media how much they could get from this. If they are just silent and never do that, the government never knows it in the first place. But sad to say that is going to happen now, if the law will be going to release and approve,  then that was the time they have to pay taxes for it otherwise this Axie game will be banned.
It was just a matter of time until Philippine's government made a statement about Axie Infinity since the game is so popular there. In fact, there is no way to keep the popularity of Axie hidden, because even if people don't post their earnings at social medias, they talk about it with their friends, at work and this talk never ends, reaching to the government's ears at some point.
I think the game wouldn't be so successful right now if people had a different approach when sharing their experience with Axie Infinity. After all, marketing is also a very important factor when growing the audience of a product or service. Undesired attention from governments is just a bad and inevitable consequence of the game's popularity.

It could be worse if Philippines' government acted like Thailand SEC, which completely forbade NFTs and DeFi investments.
5033  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-09-01] Twitter Beta Testing Bitcoin Tipping Feature on: September 05, 2021, 09:14:26 PM
Funny how things turn around, not so long ago these guys where banning crypto influencers accounts and ordinary crypto users accounts (https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2021/03/10/multiple-crypto-related-twitter-accounts-have-been-suspended/) and here we are now sending congratulatory messages for their business move in including a bitcoin tipping service, hope they are not playing to the gallery to avoid losing users seeing the crypto community has grown.
The fear of losing their status to concurrent innovative social medias is huge, so they must embrace bitcoin while their popularity is still giant. Just like New York's politicians, now Twitter wants to be crypto friendly. Cheesy
At first moment, for most people it won't make any difference anyway, because they aren't based in USA or El Salvador.

But I'm sure as soon this concept starts being executed for real, there will appear middlemen services working as a bridge between the platform and users, so everyone can enjoy the benefits of the new twitter's feature, doesn't matter where they are from.
5034  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: September 05, 2021, 08:47:29 PM
Anyone following the Brazil Argentina game? Brazil authorities stopped the game to arrest players on the pitch for not quarantining. Comedy scenes as Brazilian players are still on the pitch. Trying to get a stream but everything's cancelled, though apparently Premier Sports in UK are showing it live.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2021/sep/05/brazil-v-argentina-world-cup-qualifier-live

It is a very shameful situation for Brazil, it seems that the authorities are aimless,
Shameful situations are common in Brazil, that is just another one for the long list.

it is not normal what happened today, they had a lot of time to take action and they purposely invaded the field and stopped a classic game like this
Exactly, they had enough time to solve this issue a long time before, more specifically on the moment the argentinian players arrived in the country. And even though they failed doing so, they could just wait the game finishes to finally take action against the 4 players. This way the cup's schedule wouldn't be affected.

The problem is that Brazil is a sore loser. They always think they must win, they always think they are the best and when things don't look great, well, things like this happen...
5035  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do not make curiosity to people around you while you are playing gambling. on: September 05, 2021, 05:34:19 PM
I am reading this article that telling she played gambling since eight years old and her dad was a compulsive gambler.

Source: https://www.independent.co.uk/independentpremium/uk-news/gambling-addiction-women-betting-b1769523.html
(Maybe you need to register to the site so you can read full stories).

That is one example of why someone becomes a gambler, but I believe many others known gambling because of other reasons.
I think the bad influence of parents can't be used as measure to determine a son or daughter will also develop that same bad behavior, because there are also many cases where the children completely reject the activity their parents were involved in a negative way when they become adults. It's not hard to find someone who don't drink alcohol because they had a negative experience with a drunken father or mother during the childhood and the same goes with gambling.

It looks like in cases similar to the one presented on this article, sons get inspired and somehow even admire the father including his mistakes, so they follow the same patterns. But if sons have a critical approach towards the addicted parent, they will most probably not commit the same mistakes during their adulthood.

However, genetics work in a way the addictive behavior may appear later again in a next generation...

Next game is Armenia versus Germany. Surprinsingly Armenia is leading group J, closely followed by Germany. The european titan needs no comments, as everyone is aware about the tradition of perfectionism germans have in soccer, but regards the asian nation Armenia it's something new for me: 4 games, 3 winnings and 1 draw.

They were actually much more efficient against another strong rival, North Macedonia, than germans who lost their match, while Armenia achieved a difficult draw at least. I won't say Armenia is going to overcome germans because they are still the favorite ones despite the loss against North Macedonia, but for gamblers who are looking for interesting odds, that is an opportunity...
5037  Economy / Economics / Re: Recent advertisement for Visa - what a joke on: September 04, 2021, 05:35:19 PM
I think Visa isn't deceiving or lying on this marketing promotional video, they are actually everywhere since people want to make use of their services. Even if you don't have an account at a traditional bank and deal only with crypto currency platforms or apps you are probably going to have a Visa flag debit/credit card sooner or later. Moreover, most businesses (even individual ones) I know accept Visa card as payment method.
It makes me believe they are an easy and very accessible company to work with, including for crypto currency investment companies, what improves Visa reputation even more in my opinion.
5038  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What to answer when asked "Can I make money mining bitcoin?" on: September 04, 2021, 01:56:01 AM
The answer to "Can I make money mining Bitcoin?" is a qualified - yes.
IF:
1. Most important, you have access to very low cost electricity
2. You have a place to run the very hot and very loud miners
3. You can find gear without having to wait several month to get

If all 3 are true then no problem.
Even with low energy cost, a decent place to run the machines and accessible equipments does it really worth? Or would it be better to mine an interesting altcoin instead and convert the profits into bitcoin later?
Because after so many halvings and with a lot of big companies at the market the activity doesn't look so attractive for an independent miner anymore.
5039  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin = 100k by December on: September 03, 2021, 10:07:48 PM
No worries about Bitcoin because it is a beast and always beat all FUD to make new all time highs. This bull run has yet completed and the best has yet to come with us.

If Bitcoin breaks $51,000, it will fastly rise to $64k and another short squeeze will help it rise toward $100k around the end of this year.

It takes months to finish the bull run but it will happen. Meanwhile, patience is necessary to help you holding your Bitcoin. Prepare fiat to accumulate if Bitcoin dives temporarily again.
A few bag holder already booked their profit at $50k and bitcoin takes a little correction. Bitcoin dump from $50,000 to $48500 But the price quickly recovers also. It's also a good sign. Still, there are buyers in this zone so why Bitcoin price cant able to dump more. I strongly believe some more bag holders will take their profit at the $50k-$51 range. If Bitcoin clearly can able to break the $51,000 resistance it will be a sign of Long entry for Bitcoin traders. Right now, no position holding. Wil love to take a position if there is any clear breakout or breakdown.

Bitcoin is showing impressive support levels right now, totally different from past months. I believe bitcoin is being pushed up by the financial businesses dealing with crypto currency which are growing larger, such as crypto investment platforms (centralized and decentralized ones). These platforms help bringing investors more focused in long term returns instead of the usual speculators, as there are many extra advantages offered by investment companies for those who hold tokens for longer periods of time. That is good news for the solid growment of crypto market that will become more visible in some years yet.

Of course the lack of polemical statements from the so called social influencers billionaires also help a lot.
5040  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What effect does a growing number of altcoins have on Bitcoin on: September 03, 2021, 07:58:40 PM
Number of altcoins did sure give somehow some effect but not a major thing to Bitcoin. It could move on its own as long there would be some demand. They do have different markets since people get involved
with this investment does have choices which one of the two or having both.
Since altcoins belong to different markets, some of them can help bitcoin becoming more popular by migrating the public of one niche to another.
I can mention NFTs as example. Many NFTs belong to the gaming market, which doesn't have its public focused in bitcoin. But through the adoption of NFT games, that is the main interest of this public, they can be also introduced to bitcoin from that moment on.

I've seen it happening already: people who had no knowledge or curiosity for bitcoin, however after they got involved with blockchain games they developed interest for that. That is why I think we could say altcoins have a positive impact on bitcoin.
