Everyone should check out the Poloniex Twitter account: https://twitter.com/Poloniex

Click any of their recent Tweets and have a look at the comments.

If you have substantial amounts of money in Poloniex, you won't sleep well the coming night.

it's unnerving, alright. it's just "Awaiting Approval" and "missing withdrawal" and "unanswered ticket" over and over. hundreds and hundreds of them. if you look at peoples' screenshots, small withdrawals seem to be approved instantly, but even marginally larger amounts (like 5-10 ETH) are being flagged for manual approval. that's a really bad sign to me. again, it could be just bad engineering and a lack of support resources, but that enough is alone to not expose yourself to this exchange. and it could be a lot worse.

unfortunately, my desire to get out of poloniex a couple months ago (and i did) further exposed me to losses at btc-e. it's a real crapshoot out here. Undecided

Do you think they got hacked and had their coins stolen? And now they're delaying deposits and withdrawals to cover it up? Could it be my ETH were used to finally process another user's delayed withdrawal request?

it's anybody's guess at this point. their recent change of terms and cryptsy-like behavior suggest this is possible.

My understanding, at least what the staff said many times in the trollbox, is that after getting hacked years ago they went above and beyond with their security measures to not let that happen again.  They said the vast majority of coins where in cold storage and vs using a hot wallet when the hack happened and so on.  Though it's possible, no one can really know.  Using an exchange is always a risk regardless.

i would certainly hope that most of their crypto is in cold storage. but for one thing, talk is cheap, and for another thing, that doesn't cover all security risks. for example, who has access to the cold storage? nothing is 100% fail-safe.

yeah, using any exchange is a risk....some bigger than others. the unregulated fiat exchanges like bitfinex and kraken are at additional risk because they are unlicensed MSBs. so are poloniex and bittrex, but at least they don't process fiat money. among the exchanges mentioned here, poloniex definitely seems particularly risky given the circumstances. their new terms said something like "no class actions in case of loss" (i.e. like gox) and "you can only sue us from massachusetts, USA in case of loss".... that doesn't sound encouraging to me.

i'm now hearing so many of these complaints across different mediums, that i'm now becoming very concerned that this is cryptsy 2.0. this time, way more money is on the line. Undecided

I'm really interested in your findings. Could you pinpoint me some sources, e.g. Tweets, Facebook posts, Forum threads, Reddit discussions, etc?

check out the poloniex reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/PoloniexForum/

the entire front page is filled with horror stories posted in the last day about poloniex. stuck deposits and withdrawals, frozen accounts for months, etc. i thought it would improve after the altcoin boom from may and june subsided, but it seems that problems are just getting worse.

exchanges do this for days and weeks on end without making any effort to begin resolving the situation. i received 3-4 such boilerplates over 7-8 days from coinbase the last time i had an issue. when a real person finally responded, they basically ignored my emails and were obviously still referring to a templates of boilerplate answers.

from the sound of peoples' recent experiences at poloniex, it could take weeks to resolve even this small deposit situation. if it gets resolved at all.

However, the increase in complaints at least justified to do a trial balloon first. So I decided to first deposit a few ETH to Poloniex, do some trades and then withdraw my funds as ETH, BTC and XMR. Just to get an impression in how smooth the workflow on Poloniex is right now.

And know what? My suspicion was well founded! The deposit didn't make it through! It's not showing up in my Poloniex account, neither on the balance page nor on the deposit history page. And of course I sent more than 0.5 ETH to the correct ETH deposit address. Hours passed since the transaction and it has now 500+ confirmations on the Ethereum blockchain - but still nothing.

After years in Cryptos I had many problems with frozen accounts, delayed withdrawals, hacks, scams and bankruptcies. But a missing deposit is new even for me.

i'm now hearing so many of these complaints across different mediums, that i'm now becoming very concerned that this is cryptsy 2.0. this time, way more money is on the line. Undecided

On the other hand, despite the answer to my support ticket being really polite, it reads like a copy 'n' paste they send out on a daily basis. And more important: My funds still haven't been credited to my account.

If there is one thing we all know is that socalism sucks diseased horse cock. Socialising funds is just as bad. FIat holder shouldnt be bailed out by  wise crypto holders

"Wise Crypto Holders"
What does that mean? If you remember, there was a well anticipated dip at the time the exchange went down. Many were in fiat in anticipation of this and were mid way through what would have turned out to be a good trade. So whats your point?
Are you saying trading is unwise and that holding coin is wise? If thats the case - why hold coin on an exchnge?

it's just the expected talk from crypto holders on btc-e, same as there was from USD holders on bitfinex last year. holding any assets on a centralized exchange is obviously a risk, because any event like this (including a hack of crypto wallets) can make an exchange insolvent. everybody just wants to lose as little as possible. the fact is that this is somewhat of a force majeure, and some effort should be made by btc-e to minimize losses for all.

there is also the question of the BCH.....any word on that? they should certainly be adding markets for that, and adding it to the basket of coins.
5046  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: FRAUD WARNING: Bitstamp is holding my money hostage and ignoring me for 14 days on: August 16, 2017, 10:56:56 PM
I got answer from support:

Quote
16.8.2017 11:26:16

We are happy to inform you that your withdrawals have been re-enabled.

No clue what it was, and what was a reason for block account since it were unblocked without any questions. Proly some security trigger worked..

My deposit was credited and my withdrawals enabled.
I will explain everything a bit later, cause I have other thing to do now.

i'm really glad the situations were resolved. i had my doubts there for a minute. still, this experience indicates that bitstamp is getting very serious about regulatory compliance. i would be very careful about sending coins there, particularly coins that could be tainted.

even if i had a legit paper trail to show that funds are legitimate at all times, i wouldn't want to have funds tied up for days, weeks or months because of their AML compliance checks. the fact is that i can't necessarily show a good paper trail for a good deal of my funds (trading, gambling, giveaways, etc. all moved around from the same wallet), so those funds can't be deposited to stamp or GDAX...
5047  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: FRAUD WARNING: Bitstamp Support is ignoring me on: August 16, 2017, 01:23:13 AM
At this point I am furious as they are holding my money hostage and completely ignoring me.

Just found that BITCOIN WITHDRAWALS ARE CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE FOR YOUR ACCOUNT, which means all my fiat is held hostage too.

Oh, i have exactly the same problem. I have 2 years old fully verified account. I traded on bitstamp without any problem, last action i did i withdrawed all my btc before 1 august btc fork, then i didn't use exchange and 8 august i deposited btc back (exactly from same home wallet i withdrawed to) to continue trading when suddently i found that all my withdraw were dissabled.

LITECOIN WITHDRAWALS ARE CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE FOR YOUR ACCOUNT

one person lodging this complaint, i could maybe write off. now two old hands are complaining of withdrawals blocked and complete radio silence from stamp. i hate to say it, but i think this is the case:

Honestly, after reading through your entire thread, the only plausible reason for them to not reply to you is that they are waiting for answers as they most likely passed your information to the authorities for investigation.

this is the most reasonable explanation for the silence. what i'm worried to find out ... aside from Kn_os with the withdrawal out and directly back in due to the august 1 fork, have you guys deposited bitcoins into your account before? or only fiat?

between the regulated exchanges like stamp and GDAX being super compliant, and blockchain analysis companies getting more and more sophisticated, i don't like the direction we are heading in. Undecided
5048  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex Experience on: August 14, 2017, 11:45:17 PM
Horrible experience...my withdraw is still awaiting approval after 7-days now. #367646. I only requested a with of .24 ETH, so we are not talking about alot of money and I have 2FA.  Cry

i've been hearing this a lot lately. i have a friend who has a zcash withdrawal pending for nearly 2 weeks now. this seems really unacceptable to me.

i know that some users report that they are having no issues at all, but the sheer number of complaints recently should worry anyone. this could be a cryptsy situation building if more and more users start complaining about stuck withdrawals.

i'd get out now if you can. not trying to be alarmist, but better safe than sorry...
5049  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-e hacked ?? on: August 14, 2017, 03:37:40 AM

No, not BitShares. Bitsquare: https://twitter.com/bitsquare

It's an open-source desktop app that allows you to trade without third party risk. You can't get anywhere near the liquidity and order matching capabilities of centralized exchanges with it, though. I just googled them and they just re-branded to "Bisq" within the last month, apparently.

Sadly nobody is using it.

Perhaps because it does not support Fiat ? Or because people perceives it as not safe

yeah it could only support pegged coins (which expose you to third party risk anyway). and the other thing is, like openbazaar, no one wants to download a desktop client. they'd rather use their browser (which of course requires centralization).

no easy answers here when most of the liquidity prefers to use well-branded, centralized exchanges with thick order books and good trading engines.
5050  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-e account speculation thread on: August 14, 2017, 03:34:39 AM
I too believe that there is still some light at the end of the tunnel. I however don't see any point into them trying to relaunch in whatever form or shape, where they now suddenly force people to verify themselves -- this doesn't make any sense to me.

indeed. while the argument can be made that enforcing verification could help reduce their obligations, big fish and darknet people will just get fake documents. i'm hoping they are talking about tiered KYC, like most altcoin exchanges, where you can still withdraw at least some minimal amounts with very minimal info (name, address).

I add more value to them just setting up a temporary site where people can log into, and then can start withdrawing whatever they are being offered to withdraw (obviously hinting at the crypto btc-e still has access to). No one with a functioning set of brains will ever return to such an exchange.

surprisingly, i've come across a bunch of people (mostly in eastern europe and former CIS countries) that said they would continue trading there.
5051  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-e account speculation thread on: August 13, 2017, 08:59:48 PM
Hey guys.

So I've been inactive on BTC-E for like 2 months or so and I just learned it's been shut down by FBI?  WTF?  I had 0.46BTC there ($2k).  So are they going to refund us our bitcoins?  I earned them fair and square (started from 2013).  I'm considering going to FBI office or call them/email them.  What should I do?
 Huh

at this point, there is nothing to do but wait and hope. since the DOJ basically called its customers criminals and said the exchange itself is a criminal enterprise, it's very unlikely there will be a claims process for customers to try to recover funds from the US government.

there is a small chance that btc-e will relaunch and/or make partial refunds, based on the funds (mostly crypto) they still have access to. you can keep up with their updates by following their bitcointalk or twitter accounts: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=33012
5052  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-e hacked ?? on: August 13, 2017, 08:56:12 PM
With Bitfinex closing doors to US customers, BTC-e does actually have an opportunity to step back in, even with KYC compliance. But it's really going to rub me wrong way if I get back 7 different coins that do not add up to anything near the claimed 55% of my original Bitcoin.

what do you think they mean by KYC? everyone has to send documents? or tiered like kraken or poloniex (example first tier: name, address, email and maybe phone number for limited withdrawals)?

the biggest problem with their proposed distribution is sticking people with novacoin. it's a shitcoin that isn't traded anywhere else, really. no liquidity in that market, nor much for peercoin or namecoin. so people who receive those coins may get really shafted.
5053  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is the best trading site now? on: August 13, 2017, 08:51:29 PM
For me bittrex now is the best trading site now because they offers a wide selection of altcoins that you can choose and decide whether it become longterm or short term all of these coins can give you a great profit in the future

i prefer bittrex to poloniex for altcoins, for sure. polo has better UI, but bittrex's API and trading engine are solid, and importantly, they actually add new coins. poloniex rarely adds new coins anymore.

plus, there is a mounting pile of complaints about unanswered support tickets, missing withdrawals, and things like that at poloniex, so i would be wary of holding much funds there right now. i'm concerned there is a cryptsy-type situation going on there.
5054  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is the best trading site now? on: August 13, 2017, 03:33:42 AM
I used to trade crypto back in 2014 but left it since. Heard bitcoin talk on the radio few days ago so decided to get back into the game. Read up about recent tradings and notice that polo seems to be the IT trading site now with a very high volume. So is polo the best trading site?

Not anymore poloniex. There used to be a time when polo is the top among all other trading platforms. But not now anymore. Although poloniex remain to be at the top 5 of course. Bittrex is the number one now. It was because of some glitches in polo exchange.

Yes i dont trade anymore on poloniex, it has a lot of issues and they repply the support tickets like 15 days after. I had an issue with a password and i could login to my account for more than nine days because the support didnt reply.

i'm getting pretty worried about the situation at poloniex. it was one thing back in may or june, when hype was at its peak and they must have been overwhelmed with customers. but i keep hearing that everyone is moving to bittrex or other exchanges due to missing deposits, stuck withdrawals and mounting general complaints about unanswered tickets.

you would think by now that they would be clearing through the backlog of support issues, but it seems only to get worse each month that goes by. be very careful with polo...
5055  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Good wallet to store USDT ? on: August 13, 2017, 03:20:36 AM
I am trying to minimize my loss with price volatility so searching for good wallet to store my USDT that will give me full control over my funds and they don't have any access to them.

You might be able to store them on a local wallet (probably available at Tether's website), but like any other "fiat storage" it is subject to third party risk. In this case the owner of Tether. If, say, the USA didn't like what Tether is doing, and seized their bank accounts, how much is that USDT going to be worth? It'll dump hard.
I do not think it will be happening. If anything like that happening then tether will come up with new coin namely for example tether2 and your old tether could be exchanged for new one for 1:1 swapping. I guess exchanges also will prefer do this for the funds withheld with them. I believe this is how a decentralized system should work and correct me if I am missing anything with how tether is working.

i don't think so. tether already can't be redeemed for USD anymore because bitfinex's banking is blocked to most of the world. they are basically just play tokens now. people don't care because of the ongoing crypto hype/bubble, but at some point, it will become a real problem. issuing a new token that isn't redeemable for real money isn't a solution for that...
5056  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitfinex is dropping their US customers on: August 12, 2017, 10:58:22 PM
I have to say that as an American I'm getting increasingly frustrated with how our government is pushing back on crypto.  I see other countries looking for ways to work with this new industry and all I see from our government is ways to regulate or flat out ban it.  I'm going to head over to petition.whitehouse.gov and create a petition to back off of crypto.  I know it wont do anything but we have to start somewhere.

i don't think they are trying to ban it, but yes, they want to regulate it. and when the US wants to regulate something, it means punishing unregulated entities. i'm sure this is why bitstamp and coinbase started obtaining licensing and implementing harsh KYC measures starting years ago. they were smart enough to see this coming and are likely safe from this mess. i'd be worried about keeping funds on bitfinex after what's happened at btc-e (even if you weren't already worried given the hack last year).
5057  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Virtual PC for downloading altcoin wallets on: August 12, 2017, 10:52:54 PM
hi all,

i wanted to download a few altcoin wallets to take advantage of some airdrops. but i wanted to use a virtual pc with networking disabled as an extra layer of protection in case one or more of these wallets turns out to be malicious.

my main issue: i have a windows 7 with working windows xp virtual machine. but dumb old me can't seem to figure out how to transfer files (e.g. from the host machine) to the virtual pc. it used to be drag and drop prior to windows 7. it seems they've disabled drag-and-drop functionality. i'm trying to avoid setting up file sharing/networking.

any pointers or advice on another route to take? i don't have too many coins exposed on this machine, but i'd rather be safe than sorry.
5058  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-e hacked ?? on: August 11, 2017, 09:22:35 PM
Not to mention their servers were located in a US datacenter, which means they can quite easily demand to seize the hardware. Not the brightest idea to host it there to be honest.

Which US datacenter where the servers located in?

They were hosted by Cloudflare which is a US company. Exactly where the servers where physically located I'm not sure, I think I read somewhere in the US. But either way, as Cloudflare is a US based company the FBI can demand pretty much anything from them under US law and they have to comply, even if the servers were physically located abroad (which I don't think they were, I think it was a data center in california).

they weren't hosted by cloudflare. that was just for DDOS protection services. they have nothing to do with the exchange's datacenter. i don't think it's public information where the seized servers were. and the seized servers may have just been running scripts to yet another remote server. we really don't have enough information to opine one way or the other on how intelligently they set up their infrastructure.
5059  Other / Archival / Re: Enjincoin ICO team behaving suspiciously like a scam ICO operation on: August 11, 2017, 09:07:55 PM
i just noticed this thread today. can someone just tell me whether i'm going to get default negative trust for advertising enjin?

i've read the allegations. pending the hangout, the only issue is the deletion of posts from a moderated thread. i don't have the time or energy to read through all of the ANN thread to determine if the deleted posts were, in fact, repetitive and/or trolling. it seems that, regardless, all questions regarding enjin's traffic were adequately addressed. thus, i don't believe this warrants a scam accusation or negative trust (unless you take the position that all ICOs are scams and deserve such). i am also still comfortable advertising the ICO based on this. but i will remove my signature immediately if cryptodevil says so because he can ruin all of our reputations, permanently, based only on his say-so and regardless of any evidence. it seems like that is probably what he plans to do here, and no one on this forum will stop him, so i won't get in the way.

so, if cryptodevil could simply clarify what his plans are.....? that would be nice. hopefully you'll at least give the signature advertisers a PM and a day or two to remove the signature before you neg trust them at least, as a courtesy?
5060  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Good wallet to store USDT ? on: August 11, 2017, 07:34:04 AM
I am trying to minimize my loss with price volatility so searching for good wallet to store my USDT that will give me full control over my funds and they don't have any access to them.

Do you guys have any idea which wallet can be good for it, I don't want to risk my USDT by storing them in exchange platforms.

sorry, i wish i had an answer for you, but i'm not aware of a standalone USDT wallet. but i had to comment: you may have control over your keys in this situation, but you still have full exposure to bitfinex. tether and bitfinex are owned by the same company and are suffering from the same banking problems. if anything happens to bitfinex, that USDT might become worthless overnight. so you are not safe from third party risk at all.
