5041  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Armory Wallet Fork? on: November 09, 2018, 10:19:21 AM
Hey guys, is there a maintained fork of Armory Wallet?
Yes there is... goto: https://btcarmory.com/

Also, there is an Armory specific sub-forum here on bitcointalk: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=97.0

Quote
If not, is there a modern wallet that reads Armory's paper backup format?
And no... there are no other wallets that read Armory's "root key" paper backup format.
5042  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bitcoin Cash Fork? on: November 09, 2018, 10:08:52 AM
So basically my bch is in electron cash right?
No, the BCH is assigned to PublicKeys that match your Bitcoin PrivateKeys... and are recorded on the BCH blockchain.

They could just as easily be accessed via Bitcoin ABC, or Exodus, or Atomic or any other BCH compatible wallet.

Quote
Thus me doing nothing is the same as someone downloading electron cash and doing the process to get the bch and them leaving it in electron cash?
They don't "leave it in electron cash"... remember, coins are simply records on the blockchain. They aren't kept in wallets... private keys are kept in wallets. Private keys allow you to spend coins that are... (say it with me) "recorded on the blockchain".

Quote
When you say the private key, you mean the electrum 12 word phrase right?  Just want to make sure of this.
No... as bob says... I meant "private key".

Although, technically, as all your private keys can be derived from the 12 word phrase (aka seed mnemonic), having the 12 word phrase means you should be able to regenerate all the private keys as required.
5043  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Will not accept my passphrase! any help please! on: November 09, 2018, 09:47:53 AM
There were about 6 or 8 rows of keys.
But why so many lines of keys?  I only had 1 wallet.
Question:  Because I restored my wallet a couple times... Is this why I have more than 1 key listed?
Because Armory is an "HD" wallet and actually has a "pool" of keys that are pre-generated... from memory, it is 1000.

If you followed my guide and ticked the "show un-used (address pool)" box, it will display ALL of these addresses/keys... the reason to do this, is that if Armory is not correctly synced, it may think some of your addresses/keys are "unused" so won't display them, even if they have in fact been used.

I have tried the top 3 keys (rows) but I get message on other end saying "invalid key"

Did you actually change Atomic from ETH to BTC when you attempted to "import" your private? It defaults to ETH and will give "Invalid Private Key" unless you change to "Bitcoin (BTC)"

Also, Atomic doesn't actually "import" your private key... it uses "sweep", as you can see from the screenshot... it tells you it is going to send all spendable coins "minus transaction fee" to your Atomic wallet.

Quote
Would I assume ALL BCC would be contained in one of the listed keys?
More correctly, I would assume all your BCH is contained on one (or more) key(s)... depending on how many addresses you had actually received BTC to, prior to the fork.

5044  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help with Mlycelium cancellations on: November 09, 2018, 12:57:18 AM
There seems to be a "refresh" button in Mycelium now (visible on the "Balance" and "Transactions" tabs)... if you click that a few times it should definitely force a "sync" of your wallet.

If the transaction has been broadcast to the network, there is a good chance that it will eventually be confirmed. As yogg said, you can check this by querying your transactionID on the blockexplorer of your choice and see if the transaction is still floating around on the network. If it shows up on a couple of blockexplorers (like blocktrail, btc.com, blockchain.com etc), then anticipate it getting confirmed at some point.

If the transactionID is not found, then chances are that the transaction was dropped... chances of it being confirmed are very low.
5045  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory states not to be online and does nothing to change this on: November 09, 2018, 12:45:28 AM
I use the portable version of Bitcoin Core. The blockchain is fully synced.
Huh

You mean you're just running the bitcoin-qt.exe (or bitcoind.exe) and haven't used the windows installer?

If so, there is a chance that Bitcoin Core is NOT using the "default" location for the blocks database... If you run Bitcoin Core, what does it show in the "Help -> Debug Window -> Information" tab where it says "Datadir"?

It's likely that you'll need to specify this path explicitly when running Armory (using Armory.conf or commandline arguments), so that it can find the blocks folder: https://btcarmory.com/docs/pathing

Also, you'll need to setup Bitcoin Core so that it allows "incoming connections"... otherwise Armory probably won't be able to connect to your local node.

If none of this works, you'll need to post your Armory logs so we can get a better idea of why Armory is not finding your Bitcoin data directory.
5046  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BEST ANDROID BITCOIN WALLET ? on: November 08, 2018, 09:25:20 PM
Hi. From your experience guys which wallet is good for android phone?  with which wallet i can backup bitcoin private keys offline, without being connected to internet?
Electrum has an Android version (but it is a bit feature limited compared to desktop version, does the basics OK).

Mycelium is a pretty decent wallet... although the developers have previously made some questionable choices (intrusive ads, promoting "dubious" Russian ICOs, broken promises, Mycelium ICO disaster etc)

Samourai is an up and coming wallet (although technically still in "Alpha" test)

All of those wallets use "seed mnemonics" (aka "12 words") to enable you to create offline backups of private keys. If none of those look any good for what you want, you can always try looking at the other options here: https://bitcoin.org/en/wallets/mobile/android/
5047  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: BTC,BCD,about electrum bitcoin diamond 3.1.2 on: November 08, 2018, 09:01:15 PM
Where do you recommend i can download a free sandbox?  I made a quick Google search and found some paid products..
I'll put in a vote for Oracle VirtualBox: https://www.virtualbox.org/

I have successfully run Windows 7/10, various flavours of Linux... and even *cough*MacOSX*cough* on it Wink
5048  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How do I open my Electrum wallet? on: November 08, 2018, 07:49:53 AM
I downloaded Electrum Wallet on my Mac. Now I can't find the application to open it. I can search for and find the original "electrum-3.2.3.dmg" file. When I open it up, it opens a window with the Electrum Application icon, which I can then click to reach the wallet, but is this the usual route to get to my wallet each time? Can I not just put the Electrum application in a known location? If yes, how do I find it?
To make Electrum "install" on OSX, you need to drag and drop the Electrum icon from the ".dmg window" into your "Applications" folder...

Once that is done, you can safely "eject" the .dmg... and Electrum should still show in your Applications Wink

Finally, after you have installed it... and have it running, you can right-click the icon in the dock... select "options" -> "keep in dock", that way the icon will always be shown, even if the app isn't running.

Refer to this short video (shows Firefox being installed from a .dmg): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmtId6P66AY

I need some dirt on him so I can leave negative trust and put him in his place...
You could always create an alt... and then accuse him of being an alt of Thule Tongue

Unfortunately, he seems to be way too coherent and switched on for that strategy to work... Plus, you know, he is chilled... and wears a hat. Wink
5050  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bitcoin Cash Fork? on: November 08, 2018, 06:58:07 AM
So i like to know... does this mean if i do nothing now, does it mean in the future when i download electron cash, i could then of course claim my bch... but also claimed that forked coin that is upcoming?
Short Answer: Yes

Long Answer:

Essentially, all a fork does is copy/paste the blockchain at a set point in time and then build from that point with it's own rules/network... thus, if PublicKeyA contained 1 <coin> at <forkTime> on <CoinChain>, then PublicKeyA would then have 1 <forkCoin> on <forkChain> after the fork occurred (assuming a 1:1 fork... adjust as necessary if the fork is like BCD which was 1:10)

Why this is relevant to you, is that whether or not you have created a forkcoin wallet is (usually) entirely irrelevant... As, ALL the coins are listed on the associated blockchain... not held in wallets.

So if <forkChain> is then forked... and that 1 <forkCoin> on PublicKeyA was not been moved... then at <2ndForkTime>, you will find that <2ndForkChain> now has 1 <2ndForkCoin> listed as belonging to PublicKeyA.

As long as you still have PrivateKeyA (the key that PublicKeyA is derived from) then you will be able to access all the PublicKeyA's... on all the various blockchains.

5051  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Will not accept my passphrase! any help please! on: November 08, 2018, 06:43:24 AM
Excellent that you followed through and posted an update (with details) on how you recovered your wallet!

As for getting your private keys to claim forks... you can follow the little mini guide (with pics! Wink) that I posted for another user who was also trying to export private keys so they could get BCH.

You can find it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3274219.msg34442580#msg34442580
5052  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: BTC,BCD,about electrum bitcoin diamond 3.1.2 on: November 08, 2018, 12:50:46 AM
Three "antivirus" programs I've never heard of claim it is suspect...
Quote
AegisLab - Trojan.Win32.Generic.4!c
CrowdStrike Falcon - malicious_confidence_60% (W)
Sophos ML - heuristic

While all the big names say that it is clean??!? Huh

Anyway, that link (btcd.io) is the "legit" (aka official) Bitcoin Diamond website... If you're concerned about it... run it in a Virtual Machine Tongue
5053  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory states not to be online and does nothing to change this on: November 08, 2018, 12:23:23 AM
Have you installed (and fully synced) Bitcoin Core? https://bitcoincore.org/

Also, where did you get the "Armory zip" from? Is it version 0.96.4 and did you download it from here: https://btcarmory.com/ ? Huh

If you don't have Bitcoin Core installed (and fully synced), Armory will not be able to go "online"... as there won't be a local Bitcoin Core node to connect to!
5054  Economy / Gambling / Re: Seuntjies DiceBot -Multi-Site, multi-strategy betting bot for dice. With Charts! on: November 08, 2018, 12:16:16 AM
i got your pm .. kindly add this option in future Smiley
I'm sure that Seuntjie probably already told you, but that sort of thing would be dependent on the betting site offering that functionality via it's betting API.

So, have a word to whatever site(s) you're wanting to bet on... and ask them to provide this functionality first (via their API). Only then can it possibly be added to the dicebot.
5055  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Port 8333 on: November 08, 2018, 12:10:49 AM
In any case, my wallet held about 13 connections only. standard 9 inputs and 13 outputs. And I would like to connect to more nodes.
Outgoing connections are where you are retrieving blockchain information from... these are the only connections that you can "force" (using "addnode")

Incoming connections are where other nodes are connecting to you, to retrieve blockchain information. You cannot really do much to influence this value, other than allowing incoming connections and possibly setting the "maxconnections" value to something large... although this defaults to 125... "-maxconnections=<n> Maintain at most <n> connections to peers (default: 125)", so if you're only getting 9 incoming, then changing this value won't change much.

You cannot force other nodes to connect to you, and they're likely to prioritise connections based on latency etc... so if there aren't a lot of nodes "near" you (from a network latency perspective) then chances are you won't see many incoming connections.

Just leave your node running with allow incoming connections... people will use it, or not... there isn't much you can do.

Why do you care how many nodes connect to you anyway? Huh
5056  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum on server for receiving and sending payments on: November 07, 2018, 10:56:29 AM
I also saw Electrum for LTC and DASH for example. Looks like they all share the same Python command interface. Does that mean that they are also capable to do the same things as Electrum BTC does?
Not necessarily.

NONE of the Electrum forks are created by the original Electrum Devs... they are all created by other people and may or may not support any features of the original Electrum... you would need to check with the Devs of each fork to see if it still works as intended.
5057  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bitcoin Cash Fork? on: November 07, 2018, 10:52:30 AM
If you held any BTC at the time that BCH was forked... then you automatically get BCH... you don't actually have to do anything, the forkcoin blockchain records all this for you. You are free to access the coins at any time ("claim" is definitely NOT the correct word).

Likewise, with other forks... if you held XYZcoin at <insert fork time>... you get "Forkcoin" simply because the blockchain will record this for you.

I heard this is going to be soon and i read that if you have bitcoin cash in coinbase or binance, you will get credit for it.
Basically, this announcement is simply stating that Coinbase and Binance will be crediting members with the forkcoins... a lot of exchanges DO NOT do this... as you technically DO NOT control whatever coins you have on an exchange, you simply have an account balance in their database... THEY control the private keys.

However... any coins that you have in your wallets (that you have access to the private keys for), will mean that you also get access to any forks (as you have the private keys).

As far as the Bitcoin Cash any crypto fork goes... the golden rule is: "If you have access to the private keys... you have access to the coins"

People who keep their coins on Exchanges (or other online services) where they do not have access to the private keys... well, they're at the mercy of the service provider as to whether or not they get credited with the fork coins.

5058  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Port 8333 on: November 06, 2018, 10:39:06 PM
at the same time, many have only 13 connections
http://images.vfl.ru/ii/1541530035/7b981e25/24090812.png
That number is NOT the number of connections... it is simply a numerical representation (decimal value of a "bit setting") of the "services" offered by that particular node:

NODE_NETWORK, NODE_BLOOM, NODE_WITNESS (13)
SERVICES

vs.

NODE_NETWORK, NODE_BLOOM, NODE_WITNESS, NODE_NETWORK_LIMITED (1037)
SERVICES

So, in the first node above... the bit setting would be something like 000000001101 = 13... and in the second... 010000001101 = 1037.
5059  Economy / Reputation / Re: Negative rating from The Pharmacist on: November 06, 2018, 10:18:43 PM
Ironically... one of the first things the OP had in their post was:
Quote

Which leads us to:
...
33. Posting plagiarized content is not allowed.[e]
...
Examples:
...
33. This includes both copying parts or the entirety of other users' posts or threads and copying content from external sources (e.g. other websites) and passing it as your own.

Seems a tad harsh.
The guy put "I found few different sources that are legitimate and decided to share them with the community for safe trading."
So he is saying he found a few sources and compiled them into one to make a comprehensive guide?  that does not sounds like someone who is trying to claim this is his own work and take credit.
I would have just explained it would be best to bring the exact sources and quote them.
Give him another chance. Seems like he was trying to be helpful.
Looking at his post history he seems like a genuine trader on this site and not one trying to pump his merit or gain some bitcointalk cred.
I would personally consider giving him a pass that time.
I think the fact that the OP hasn't been banned thus far, especially given the length of time that has passed since the original thread was "tagged", would tend to indicate that the mods are going to consider the lack of citation of external sources as an oversight on the part of the OP... as opposed to a deliberate attempt to pass the work off as their own.

Either way, hopefully the OP has learned what plagiarism is! Wink

5060  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Wallet on: November 06, 2018, 09:45:24 PM
In addition, you can see EXACTLY what Electrum is going to do (prior to clicking "send") by entering the address, amount and setting the fee... and then clicking the "Preview" button.

It will show you all the transaction details (inputs used, outputs created) and you will see the exact amount(s) that are going to be used.
