5061  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-04-05 Fool.com: Why Bitcoin is doomed to fail on: April 06, 2013, 10:41:23 AM
Some people still don't have Internet.

I say $250 and stable.

He has all things backwards. It's about the same as arguing that there isnt enough gold to drive today's world economy. You should really just ignore well_writing but not_understanding people and continue with the main plan.
5064  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I'm Calling It. Current Price of 1K Bytecoins is .5 BTC on: April 05, 2013, 04:47:06 PM
That is the weakest excuse for a clone I have ever heard.

Clones do not need excuses, the market will deal with them. If clones solve a problem of whatever nature or satisfy a demand, they are viable and will exist for some period.

Just buy.

And Hold.

Repeat until rich.
or broke

How can you be broke if you still hold the same Bitcoins?
5066  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will ByteCoin confuse people about BitCoin on: April 05, 2013, 05:44:15 AM
I fail to see what you want to convey in your post. BTE is simply there, period. That's a free market and the market doesn't care whether we like it or not. Yes, there are other coins but this seems to be an exact copy of BTC giving extra attention to the fact that Bitcoin is not protected as a concept.

I wanted to point out that BTC will have to manage with exact copies out there and in my personal opinion the birth of BTE provides an unique view on what happens with exact clones. Again, I would like to stress it's about the protocol, not so much the value or type of coin. Only is there's sufficient adaptation, the coin of choice has a future.

I'm excited about this; are you?

Quote
And, most importantly, it would work with, rather than against, today’s established monetary institutions. Yes, it would be disruptive, and could cost them quite a lot of money in terms of lost interchange fees from plastic cards and ATMs. But it wouldn’t aspire to delegitimize them – quite the opposite. Because it turns out that financial-services companies are a very important part of any democracy.

It’s because we place so much trust in banks, after all, that they are forced to take on a great deal of responsibility. Banks and central banks are given an important job to do, are regulated and scrutinized, and can be held responsible for their actions. The population of the entire country, as represented by the government, stands behind bank deposits and promises to honor them even if the bank goes bust. Money, in other words, is a key ingredient in the glue which keeps the social compact together. (What we’re seeing in Cyprus is in large part a demonstration of what happens when that compact starts becoming unglued.)

Bitcoin, in that sense, is anti democratic. It’s based on mistrust rather than trust, it refuses to take any responsibility onto itself – indeed, it doesn’t even have a self to take responsibility onto. It’s nihilistic, and an attractive alternative only to things which are downright bad.

I refrain from quoting his fallacy on deflation. I won't comment further other than that one could not possibly be more disingenuous in failing to correctly address the core reason of society's current breakdown; exactly the trust in broken fiat money that's evaporating in spades. Putting this forward as a reason against Bitcoin shows that this guy is ready to grow old.

Irrelevant.

Brilliant quote. Famous last words no doubt.

Wright Patman dropped some gems too in his lengthy career and he made it far nevertheless. It always starts with one man (or a satoshi).

This is a book that bored the hell out of me but fascinated me at the same time. I could read it 10 times again without pain and still find new gems in it. It's hard, it's rough and I very much like it.

You will sense a strange kind of connection if someone tells you he's going Galt, understanding exactly what he means.
5070  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will ByteCoin confuse people about BitCoin on: April 04, 2013, 10:22:16 PM
A copy of Bitcoin was bound to happen anyway. Bitcoin must be able to cope with that so we might as well try it ourselves. In the end, it's not about becoming a BTC millionaire but about making hassle free 24/7 unrestricted payments. Couldn't care less whether I have to pay with LTC, BTC or Bytecoin in the future since it is all interchangeable.

The market will sort this out. We don't have a problem with 100+ PDF readers either.
5071  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NEW CURRENCY] Maria 2.0 was banned, here is her proof. The birth of Bytecoin! on: April 04, 2013, 08:39:11 PM
Well, I am having a go at it too. Solo mining is not doing much, so its pool mining for me. Interesting to see where this goes, because it in essence tests what happens if a perfect clone of BTC is brought alive. Bitcoin must be able to live with other coins, even exact copies, because it is open source. No one can stop it so we may as well try it out.

Its also a big reminder that a Bitcoin 2.0 is set up in no time should established coins run into trouble, not being a hack of the protocol itself.

Remember, its not about making money, but about freedom.

If nobody does anything anymore because of an appreciating currency, will that currency keep on appreciating while the economy goes into shambles?

Those 'experts' are at it again. Do your own thinking.

It's more like the current financial crisis being utterly bizarre. This whole Bitcoin thing is a great learning experience in terms of human behaviour and honest systems.

$150 should be as good as the Joker one.

I already see stacks of fiat burning.
