5081  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dust payments to my wallet what is he trying to do? on: October 29, 2021, 04:54:38 PM
It is a common thing that you recieve different strange coins. There are scammers that send you tokens and it is better just to ignore them and not to try doing anything with them as it can affect safety of your other coins. This way, I have about 20 different tokens on my Metamask that I am not aware of at all. It is showed that there is a high balance, but the value is 0 and I know that it is made just to fraud me.

Probably not. While OP didn't mention a specific coin, we can assume that OP is talking about BTC as this is the Bitcoin Discussion section. Also, those altcoin scams that send tokens to your wallet to hopefully trigger a contract aren't using dust amounts, they usually send in a good amount of tokens(hundreds/thousands/millions) as to make it more tempting for the user to try to sell the tokens.
5082  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how to buy bitcoins and eth? on: October 29, 2021, 04:51:04 PM
You can visit this site: https://changelly.com/buy , I used it several times exchanging btc to other crypto and I think its legit also for buying eth and btc since they are offering via credit cards, you will be redirected to a third party website to process your transactions. If I'm not mistaken they started 2015 and until now they are offering this services thats why I think its trusted but I still suggests, DYOR.

OP prefers to not have KYC, and Changelly is one of those platforms that doesn't require KYC initially, but can just out of nowhere demand KYC. This is an easy NO.

5083  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how to buy bitcoins and eth? on: October 29, 2021, 03:22:07 PM
Why did you hate KYC so much? It's only going to take few minutes of your time and you will easily purchase coins using your credit cards, for example using CC to buy BTC on binance works very well compare to others, KYC is mandatory for all centralised exchanges now, it's for the greater good honestly

Some of us here are privacy conscious. And yes, there are good aspects of it like to prevent identity theft(to some extent), but there are negative aspects as well. An exchange's user database can be breached, and suddenly all your personal information including your home address and phone numbers are publicly leaked. Potentially making you a huge target for $5 wrench attacks and such.
5084  Other / Off-topic / Re: Facebook Plan To Rebrand Name To Meta on: October 29, 2021, 02:55:08 PM
Just a heads up to the readers: Facebook, Inc(the company) =/= Facebook(the social media platform)

They are NOT renaming the Facebook platform to Meta lol. Facebook will still be Facebook, Instagram will still be Instagram, etc. They're just renaming the umbrella company(Facebook, inc), because Facebook, Inc(now Meta Platforms, Inc), owns a good number of platforms. Namely: Facebook/Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, and etc. There seems to be a lot of confusion lol.
5085  Economy / Speculation / Re: Getting early 2018 top vibes! on: October 29, 2021, 02:49:21 PM
Eh, we're starting to get some but the current market sentiment hasn't reached how bullish the masses were in the end of 2017 in my opinion. And yea, with the NFT hype, it didn't even necessarily started when we were in a bull market; and NFTs didn't exist in 2017 so..

But yea, this may or may not be the top, but if anyone's planning on trying to time it and sell the top, I sincerely wish them the best of luck because they're going to really need it.
5086  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wont the amount of bitcoin in circulation vanish? on: October 29, 2021, 02:08:52 PM
I hope that the OP will learn something from all the answers he received - and that he will not be angry with anyone because we are surprised for a reason - 1 year on the forum is not a short time to understand at least some basics. I believe there are others who think like OP or something like that, and it's never too late to learn something new - and maybe pass that knowledge on to someone else.

Misunderstanding what Bitcoin really is, is a big obstacle to greater adaptation, and I don't just mean individuals like OPs - but politicians and powerful people who aren't as intelligent as they seem.

Yea, you could say that he/she probably was just MIA that whole year hence the lack of knowledge, but like come on OP already has 302 posts. Grin Again, no offense to OP, but it's really just a bizarre question to be asking after being here for a while.
5087  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Large SALES Exchange or OTC how do you cashout 500-1million+? on: October 29, 2021, 02:01:03 PM
Man, if you're going to do a big transaction, you ain't going to get away with it unless you do something like do smaller transactions in a span of a couple of years, or if you're going to transact purely with physical cash. Outside of that, you better just do everything legitimately and cleanly unless you want to risk jail time.
5088  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Hedging Platforms and Strategy on: October 29, 2021, 03:33:40 AM
You can do so through FTX[1].

But really, if you aren't an active trader, and if you're overweight in bitcoin and might need some money some time in the future, then just sell some. You don't need to make it complicated.

5089  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance issues on: October 29, 2021, 03:31:28 AM
I assume you aren't an active trader hence why you didn't immediately find out that U.S. users would be moved from Binance to Binance US. Probably withdraw your funds to a non-custodial wallet instead to prevent such problems in the future? Also taking note that centralized exchanges are a hot target for hackers.

But yea, contact support.
5090  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reason for bitcon flash drop. on: October 29, 2021, 03:28:41 AM
You've been here since 2015, you should know by now to not read into such exaggerated articles. "Plunges", yea, down $6k literally after we went 2x since the beginning of the year.
5091  Economy / Economics / Re: What happened? on: October 29, 2021, 03:25:37 AM
1. In a market that boasts transparency, it remains a coin with an unknown founder.
It's a feature, not a bug. Having an unknown founder means that we have no idea about his/her/their political views, other intentions, etc. And especially knowing that the founder isn't active anymore, it makes the decision making around Bitcoin's protocol updates more decentralized.

2. I have read Bitcoin's whitepaper, and it's mostly an essay about the advantages of cryptocurrency, but not about Bitcoin.
Take note that all the cryptocurrencies you can see right now on CoinMarketCap doesn't exist at the time the Bitcoin whitepaper was written. Bitcoin bootstrapped all that. If you really want to learn Bitcoin's advantages though, you'd have to look outside the whitepaper, on other articles. Obviously because Bitcoin has almost nothing to compare to back then.
5092  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Have you ever traded (crypto) volatility index? on: October 28, 2021, 05:30:06 PM
No idea on CVI, but the CBOE Volatility Index(VIX) is an index that's commonly traded in the traditonal finance world. And no, betting on volatility is not easier as it requires a different level of understanding concerning markets. But if you're able to trade it properly, then good for you!

While holding bigger risks, this index trading also gives us highest rewards if done properly.
You can say the same with leverage trading and buying spot on small caps though; but yet they're still not recommended for most people.
5093  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: cant sell $squid token.. is it scam? on: October 28, 2021, 05:24:28 PM
is this the one? https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/squid-game/markets/

if so,

1. Head over to PancakeSwap: https://pancakeswap.finance/swap
2. Click on Select a currency
3. Click on Manage Tokens
4. On the token tab, copy the contract address on the CoinMarketCap link above and paste it on the text field
5. Click on Import

5094  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lots of questions. Help me get up to speed on: October 28, 2021, 04:54:45 PM
Some are still using bitcoin core but many people prefer to use non-custodial wallet which doesn't need to download whole blockchain which takes up a lot of space. There are wallets you can use like electrum, trustwallet and many more wallet that are non-custodial.

Just a heads up:

1. Bitcoin Core is also a non-custodial wallet
2. You don't necessarily need to download the entire blockchain if your computer doesn't have enough memory. Lookup pruned nodes, where you can only download like 15gb and such.
5095  Economy / Economics / Re: What happened? on: October 28, 2021, 04:28:55 PM
That's what I mean. I understand that most cryptocurrencies would follow general trends, but all three took a dive and recovered within minutes of each  other, and in all three cases the movement is not all that different.
Yes, it's really just THAT synchronized most of the time.

For example, when Xiao Jin Ping forbade cryptos in China the crypto market (understandably) took a hit. Is there any external factor that affected prices yesterday, besides  normal market variability?
Not that I know of. If they was any news, it's probably nothing major. It's just that people in the cryptocurrency space are mostly inexperienced retail investors/traders, that they can switch from bullish to bearish and vice versa in just a flip of a switch. Hence why price movements are sometimes exaggerated, because people buying/selling can trigger a sort of domino effect.
5096  Economy / Economics / Re: What happened? on: October 28, 2021, 04:08:18 PM
Oh! I see...
so it would make sense to get coins that don't follow bitcoin's lead, then. Am I right, or am I oversimplifying it?

It's not that most coins follow bitcoin 100% of the time. Coins/tokens can move on their own even if bitcoin is stagnant if there are lots of people buying/selling it; due to various reasons like good news, influencers trying to pump their price, or maybe sometimes people just like the concept. Like how U.S. stocks individually move on their own, but almost all of the U.S. stocks crash in a synchronized manner when there's bad news concerning the government and/or the economy.

Now, what you should do will depend on what your end goal is in the first place.
5097  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wont the amount of bitcoin in circulation vanish? on: October 28, 2021, 04:02:38 PM
When someone after a year on the forum draws this conclusion, I wonder what that person has been doing all this time? You should start the crypto school again and start with the basics - Chapter 1 -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin

Probably needs to go back further and understand how marketplaces of intangible assets work lol. Though I guess the UIs of the likes of Coinbase are so good that it makes some people think that Coinbase(or maybe Satoshi lol) themselves are the ones buying and selling the coins.

Not to belittle you though, OP. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and you're a tad bit smarter now. Wink
5098  Economy / Economics / Re: What happened? on: October 28, 2021, 03:53:22 PM
If bitcoin falls, like 90% of the time, almost all cryptocurrencies follow. The only ones that don't follow down are the ones who has heavy buyers in the first place.

Why is this the case? Because bitcoin still acts like sort of the "index" of the cryptocurrency markets; and that coin/BTC is still one of the most liquid trading pairs available on exchanges. even if coin/USD is slowly but surely catching up.
5099  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Gamerall Skins on: October 28, 2021, 03:40:58 PM
No idea on how that platform works, but check out Sythe[1], it's an old gaming markets related forum. There are lots of reputable skins sellers over there; you just really need to take you time and check out their reputation threads. Think Bitcointalk, but for gaming skins instead of Bitcoin-related topics. Tongue

5100  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FDIC Allows Banks to Own Bitcoin on: October 28, 2021, 03:37:48 PM
but let's say its approved, will any of you go to deposit your BTC to banks?

If you're an actual enthusiast, then it would make zero sense to hand over your BTC to banks. Self-custody is literally one of the best features of bitcoin. But yea, on the other hand, we have the boomers and the genXers. I don't think there's a reason to be doing this if you're a person that's capable of learning how to use a hardware wallet.
