5141  Economy / Gambling / Re: *[~BITLOTTO~]* April 4 draw will likely be over 100 BTC! on: March 23, 2012, 12:09:52 AM
It could be done this way:

Send all purchase from the affiliates to the main address in "batches" (larger deposits)
This will generate the correct number or entries in the main address and the main address will contain all the BTC for the lottery
The affiliates end up with 0 BTC in their addresses
Run the transaction selection process
If a direct ticket buyer has the best match then they are the winner
If one of the affiliate tickets wins then
  Go into the affilitate address
  Run the same selection algorithm
Select the winner from the affiliate tickets

EDIT: but no real advantage over just using the union of all the addresses for the total number of entries and the selection pool

This just in:  Seagate reaches 1Tb per square inch, hard drive to reach 60TB capacity

See:  http://news.cnet.com/8301-21546_3-57400009-10253464/seagate-reaches-1tb-per-square-inch-hard-drive-to-reach-60tb-capacity/

As described in this article Seagate is investing in HAMR.  I work in the disk drive industry (disk drive firmware engineer) and there are other technologies on the roadmap (SMR, microwaves, patterned media) that will reach even higher capacities.

And, our goal as always is to reduce cost at the same time we increase capacity.

Edit:  BTW flash is so "today", there are new non volatile memory technologies being developed that are as fast as DRAM and scale like DRAM so we can expect to be able to have processor chips with X GB of on board non volatile DRAM speed memory within a few years.  This would mean you could just store everything you need (OS, programs, data) right in the processor chip in a lot of consumer applications.  Smiley

zomg! purchases are awesome!
They are fun to watch.
5146  Economy / Lending / Re: DoubleIcaras/Alexander Adams Collections Thread on: March 20, 2012, 07:13:30 PM
I am wondering if anyone who had given a loan to DoubleIcaras even bothered reading this thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=60181

He tried to scam me and after it didn't work and I tried to expose his attempt, he started making false accusations - it would have been more than obvious to anyone who had read that thread that he was a scammer, or at the very least, untrustworthy.

Not a case of not bothering to read, but I didn't read all 228 posts of his history.  And the search function isn't especially useful.  Thank you for point it out.  Presumably the delivery address will match the one Burt has (you might want to pm him).
Vitaliy,

Patrick was a bit confused.  Kluge is in charge of this collection thread, I am in charge of a different one.  So, when you get a chance could you please PM the delivery address you have to Kluge.  It would help us greatly to verify we have the correct address.

Thanks!

IBM does not lend to anyone who does not know how to correctly spell the first person personal pronoun, sorry.  Good luck!
Thanks for trying to get these people to spell capitalize the letter 'I'.  I'm sure it's not a bad way to gauge the age of a person, and thus, the trustworthiness.

Yes, I am old and grumpy and I firmly believe that if these young whipper snappers cannot be bothered to expend the vast amount of time and energy it takes to press the shift key then I cannot be bothered to read their email, post or text message.

5148  Economy / Lending / Re: Monthly loans for farm expansion on: March 20, 2012, 05:40:04 AM
Loans acquired:
50 BTC from IBM. Acquired March 19th. 55 BTC to be paid by April 20th. Currently unpaid.
Verified.
5149  Economy / Lending / Re: i'm looking for a large loan on: March 20, 2012, 05:13:02 AM
Things to note:

The fact he knows how to properly capitalize and punctuate his sentences and how to spell "I".
He laid out his entire plan up front so I did not have to pull teeth to get information.
The postitive response he got - from more than one lender!

Try again, this time with a lot more research and time invested.

IBM has sent you a PM.
5151  Economy / Services / Re: Introducing the Bitcoin 100: A Kickstarter for Charities on: March 20, 2012, 04:51:45 AM
Great news!  Let's get them the 100 BTC + Huh BTC from busting heads to them as soon as we can.  Once this first one is sent I will send my next donation into the pool for the next charity!  Great work!

My main question is always how are you going to get/make the BTC to pay back the loan with interest?

Here is something you might find interesting:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=55495.0

I have to go but I (or someone else) can explain a bit about how these work later.

5155  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator [v0.17] on: March 18, 2012, 03:26:32 AM
Is there a "fast" way to generate an address with up to 8-9 vanity characters? By fast I mean like within 24 hours.
Yes, use a lot of video cards and run your request on all of them.

I'll take that as a no :\
If you have a BTC mining farm you can use it to find vanity adresses but during that time you cannot mine BTC.  With enough power you can find an 8-9 character vanity address in 24 hours.

5157  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Magazine on: March 18, 2012, 12:16:35 AM
Why have you taken money for it already then, when there is not product yet?

What country are you from, Dansker? I don't know about other countries, but at least in the USA it is common practice to sell what is called "subscriptions". It is basically pre-ordering and reserving a fixed amount of issues to be delivered at a later date.

As my name implies, I am from Denmark.

In Denmark, you only sell the February issue of a magazine, if such an issue exists, or is going into existance in the upcoming Februrary.

Since my purchase of the February issue, I have come to learn that it will be a March issue. Fine, I will give you the extra time, and accept a months delay.

Since it is now March the 17th, it seems the Februrary turned March issue is turning into an April issue.

I ordered this magazine in the belief that it would be delivered to me within 1 month, or max 2 in the event of unforeseen issues arising.

I see you have already charged me for my purchase, but still no delivery is being made, nor is a date of such available.

You see, I work in debt collection, maybe this makes me a bit less patient and less trustful than others, but normally I would advice my client to either write off the money spent, or initiate litigation at this point, when nothing but promises has been delivered for 1-2 months.
If you no longer want to wait then simply ask for a refund.

Please respond to the above refinance proposal.

5160  Economy / Gambling / Re: *[~BITLOTTO~]* Next draw is April 4! March Jackpot was over 100 BTC! on: March 17, 2012, 03:41:12 PM
Problem solved!  So I can't wait to win this next one (I have obviously been saving my luck for it) - it is going to be big!

better & better, here's a fat second pledge, the first month that you get this up & running I will bet 100 BTC* in a lump sum in the first few days of it being open & like the BFL Bitforce Single raffle the sweeter the honey pot, then the more will come swarming in to pollinate it...

edit, I'd then expect, just guessing, at least 500 BTC to be wagered that kick start/kick off month because 100 coins is certainly worth a punt at on 99% payback to players, but the sky's the limit  Grin

if I happened to win then I pledge do the same for the next month & continue until losing  Wink

Otoh ~ helping to make it happen  Tongue

*edit 16 March: on condition the Bitcoin price is still > $5 otherwise I'll (most likely) wait until it is so in the first week of a subsequent Bitlotto before betting
