Trying hard to get it to run under wine in Arch Linux.  No luck so far.
5142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: -> Monero Community Hall of Fame <- on: February 26, 2015, 12:32:58 PM
These updates have been applied at the NEW HOME OF THE LIST:

Community Hall of Fame

Wow, that seems nice. My offer concerning the ingame hosting of the list seems needless, but the bonuses I will of course give to everyone who registers in CK in the appointed timeframe!  Cheesy

Since the data for the list is hosted in a repository I had wondered if you and the dev team had already worked it out that you'd be sharing the .yml file and thereby creating the list in your respective domains from the same source.

This could be done, I am sure.  I hate to see any plans for the kingdom thwarted.

sent another 1500 xmr; payment id cf845280f95104ddb8ad87a8e7f7a1cdc095d6e8448599d02000454d93d274b1

total 2500 xmr, I think (though I didn't make it to the new site)

You'll be there... pull request submitted

Until further notice please feel free to continue to announce donations here and I will pull/push/merge them into the new page.

When I get a better understanding of where and how the dev team, and Risto (as HM the King of cryptoworld) want to flesh out updates etc. we may move this donation hub...

Please see post #one in this thread.

5145  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 25, 2015, 11:20:24 PM

See you.

Is it true?
5146  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: February 25, 2015, 09:04:30 PM
I'm afraid dnaleor double leveled you there...  "Is it true?"  is part of long time Monero lore.  I didn't mean for my little post (meant to be humorous) to cause so much angst, but c'est la vie sur internet... Right David?
Exactement Smiley "Is it true?" is on old joke of us, back when Bytecoin was still a (semi-)thing. BCN shills where using this phrase to FUD ("I heard that Monero is a scam... is it true?" - that sort of thing).
Thanks to you, cAPSLOCK, I learnt a word. Even today, almost 30 years after the facts, I remember how I was trying to explain what I now know is levelling to my schoolmates, when I was at the primary school (and at that time, it was not poker, it was marbles. Good old time...

Glad to expose you to a new word, especially if it is poker related. Wink  That said, it is fairly deeply in the realm of slang.  Most wouldn't use it this way.

Let's see if I can help....

There is NO (official) GUI!
And the database isn't done!
And it takes all my windows xp memory!
And there is no druggy bazaar!
And Crypto Kingdom is a ponzi!
And Risto is manipulating the market!
And at any moment BCX's moonbeamwarp exploit attack will materialize!

And... and... and...

Is it going down?

is it true?

It was sarcasm.

If you want truth, look to https://forum.monero.cc and the new https://getmonero.org website.

5152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 24, 2015, 04:26:34 AM
But monero is so thinly traded...  Your analysis looks good, but it's too easy for even a single actor to make this current market happen.
5153  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 24, 2015, 02:26:52 AM
Someone dumped 38,000 monero around 0.0014, they have to be shitting bricks right now.

I don't know about that.  There is a good chance this was a profitable exit for a speculator.  25% gains are nothing to scoff at.  Also, this trader might keep a portion of Monero as longterm investment, but have no argument against realizing a 25% gain on speculative buys made made over the last month or so.

Constructive criticism not insult, my bad if I worded it harsh.

It didn't really...  no worries.
5155  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: February 23, 2015, 08:37:39 PM

In your summary I see no mention of the hard fork and the dust removal.

I think his summary was excellent for ~$3.25, but I have clarified it with the omissions you pointed out.  The nature of a summary is a bullet point list, not a transcription.

Also, for what it's worth, the audio missive is fairly non-rambley and succinct.

I actually enjoy the format.

summary of the missive? I don't want to listen to some people drone on and on unprofessionally about some mundane esoteric mess

same here, i personally doesn't like audio missive. I'm not good at listening English, i had to come here in seeking for a detailed text.

I am a native english speaker, but I just don't like podcasts...thankfully we have some good samaritan monero transcriber people here Smiley

As well as mercenaries. Wink lol.

--  There is a new website: http://www.getmonero.org
     This features updated design
There are sections for missives, a blog, the forum, and a work in progress knowledgebase
There is a new design and research goals plan with a graphical map:  http://getmonero.org/design-goals/
The website is open and stored in the git repository and the devs are welcoming community contribution

-- There is a new research paper at  http://lab.monero.cc
     MRL4 - http://lab.monero.cc/pubs/MRL-0004.pdf
The idea is they are researching anonymity vs mixin levels and how this can be improved.  This is a furtherization of MRL 001
They talked about unlinkability (dual key stealth addressing) and untraceability (ring sigs) ... two different things.
They talked about disallowing a 0 mixin transaction except under special circumstances and dust removal in relation to this problem.  This could involve a hard fork where mixin 0 or 1 transaction would not be allowed into the blockchain.

--  Age based associations (temporal associations):  There is also new understanding that it is possible to determine the age of coins moved in some circumstances.  The info is based on the way inputs are chosen.   This problem is less important than the MRL 004 problem, and very simple.  The risk is basically Panic when early coins are detected as being moved.

--  Towards the end of the talk they highlight the design and development goals I mention above ^^^  http://getmonero.org/design-goals/

-- They discuss how important it is to have libraries finished for 3rd party implementations for things like iOs/Android etc so not only can the wallet be coded well, but others can develop apps etc via these tools.

-- They defend the slow development pace (<-that is semi editorial) by saying they are still carefully laying groundwork for an enterprise grade product as opposed to trying to just make things like wallets. For example the library development as opposed to a WALLET NOW.
