5141  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I can't tracking my withdraw from weexchange on BLOCKCHAIN. It is normal? on: May 10, 2013, 05:24:39 PM
Do you think this is a normal situation???

Hard to say - but with zero fee the tx could end up taking quite a while to appear (maybe they should consider including the minimum tx fee by default).

A search on 08e58cdf30c57b59117f3cf497bd288d3f0600823ae41a4491adaa42368fc275 at blockchain.info does not find anything so am not sure exactly what that means but you might want to contact their support.

If you are using the console, you can run:
Code:
listunspent

BTW - to use the "console" from within bitcoin-qt you use Help -> Debug window menu then select the Console tab (not so obvious as this is for "advanced" usage).

When you say "open my backup.dat" what exactly did you do?
5145  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transaction Confirmation if difficulty is very high on: May 10, 2013, 03:24:18 PM
What about situation when we have huge difficulty and bitcoin price collapses making mining unprofitable for almost all miners?

When it dropped to just below 2 USD the difficulty still didn't drop dramatically (i.e. block confirmations were not taking much more than 10 minutes) so I think there are enough miners that either (a) have free electricity or (b) are long on Bitcoin to keep it alive.
5146  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transaction Confirmation if difficulty is very high on: May 10, 2013, 03:21:13 PM
Loosing half the network hashing power increases the time from 10 minutes to 20 (and increases the time until the next difficulty adjustment to no more than 4 weeks).  Loosing 75% increases it to 40 minutes per block and the next adjustment in less than 2 months.

Indeed - so ASIC or no ASIC the likelihood of such a drop would require something like a global EMP event.

5147  Other / Meta / Re: Enhancing the security of this forum by integrating two factor authentication. on: May 10, 2013, 02:45:00 PM
Fancy authentication options should be provided via OpenID support. It doesn't seem easy to add OpenID support to SMF, though.

I have implemented OpenID for CIYAM Open (although not publicly yet but it has been thoroughly tested) and it wasn't that hard so if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

I did use "mod_auth" for Apache though so I guess that might make things more tricky since you moved away from Apache (is there an equivalent for nginx?).
5148  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transaction Confirmation if difficulty is very high on: May 10, 2013, 01:41:34 PM
I think that Bitcoin will fall in the long term, unless bitcoin banks or governments ask fees too keep hashing.

Block rewards and transaction fees provide the incentive to keep mining so I don't think there is any real *difficulty* for miners to make money from mining Bitcoin for the foreseeable future (although if there was a massive loss of confidence and the price dropped to < 1 USD the mining activity would certainly be less but even then not likely to stop as some miners have free electricity).
5149  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transaction Confirmation if difficulty is very high on: May 10, 2013, 01:28:19 PM
For that to occur the hashing power would need to drop dramatically (basically all ASIC would have to have somehow been stopped from mining) so such a situation is perhaps only likely in the case of some sort of major EMP event (i.e. massive solar flare that dwarfs any we have so far experienced).

A more likely scenario is the isolation of a geographic area from being able to use the internet that doesn't have enough hashing ability to solve blocks (although that sort of problem would probably only be applicable to countries like North Korea).
5150  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is going on? Trading volume is so low! on: May 09, 2013, 11:07:14 AM
Is you are more interested in daytrading, only advice is to plan your strategy in advance and stick to it. Don't panic, don't be greedy. Respect what you have established as entry and exit points. Emotions are your worst enemy.

This is good advice - although I would also recommend being careful about just how much cash/BTC you leave on any exchange (too many have crashed and burned).
5151  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to guarantee that no more than 21 mil coins created? on: May 09, 2013, 10:52:59 AM
ok, I will try to understand... but what will happen to micro transactions?

Despite the information disseminated by some rather vocal supporters Bitcoin was never designed for doing transactions that are so ridiculously low (you may have noticed that Satoshi Dice has copped a lot of flack for the way that they send back *dust* to let a player know that they *lost*).

For truly tiny transactions "off the block" methods are likely to be the only reasonable method (I don't think that most people running a "full client" want their hard drive to filled with 1 Satoshi dust transactions).

Of course if 1 BTC becomes worth much, much more then maybe even 1 Satoshi tx's may make sense but I don't see that is the case now.
5152  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bootstrapping the pruned blockchain on: May 08, 2013, 05:08:27 PM
You believe your own *pruned* blockchain rather than anyone else's don't you (i.e. how can it contradict itself)?
5153  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bootstrapping the pruned blockchain on: May 08, 2013, 04:41:04 PM
Pruning is only for *spent* outputs is it not?
5154  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Regaining BTC sent with 0 conf on: May 08, 2013, 02:29:47 AM
Oops - missed the date sent (still half asleep) - I think pywallet is probably your best option now (to delete the tx from your wallet after which you may need to start with a -rescan to fix up the balance).
5155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Regaining BTC sent with 0 conf on: May 08, 2013, 02:23:10 AM
Assuming that you didn't send any fee with the tx you'll just have to wait (eventually it should go through).

Next time if you want the tx to go faster than add a tx fee (0.0005).
5156  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-05-03 Using The Nash Equilibrium To Bypass Bitcoin Currency Exchanges on: May 07, 2013, 02:21:16 AM
So the BTC for both parties is tied up until the seller receives a PayPal (yes - that is what is says) payment then the buyer is returned their own plus the BTC they have *bought*.

Next step is to reverse the PayPal transaction and seller is scammed - hmm... I think it might need a little more thought.
5157  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How will 0.8.2 affect S.Dice? on: May 06, 2013, 12:18:56 PM
Nah, I'm not in the underground facility any more. I packed up the hookers and blow and we're all living the sweet life in a penthouse suite now.

Grin

A gem from Gavin - keep up the good work (hopefully my rapidly filling up hard drive will be able to last another year).
5158  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Im starting a new bitcoin-related project. ANONYMOUS OR NOT? on: May 06, 2013, 11:58:30 AM
IMO just do a provably fair game, no need to show your identity probably. You can find info about provably fair methods on this forum.

I agree with this and indeed for gambling a site I think anonymous is not a big deal (people will only make small bets anyway).

Please don't spam the blockchain though. Smiley
5159  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Im starting a new bitcoin-related project. ANONYMOUS OR NOT? on: May 06, 2013, 11:08:46 AM
I would have to agree that Silk Road has done rather amazingly well and anonymous *can* work with exchanges as well - in both cases most people are basically just doing transactions (and presumably only to the level that they feel comfortable to risk).
5160  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Im starting a new bitcoin-related project. ANONYMOUS OR NOT? on: May 06, 2013, 10:46:30 AM
ps: no trust in an anonymus project? Just two words: Satoshi Nakamoto

Satoshi *gave* us Bitcoin and charged us nothing for it - it doesn't sound as though this project is going to do the same.
