Broad and Joe root will join the playing XI in the next match. so we can hope 1-1 and then series decider on 3rd test match.
I don't really feel that these two will make a huge difference currently since they have been out of form in recent times. They will definitely help though. I was surprised to see Anderson not perform well in the 2nd innings.
Well Broad-Anderson is tested and deadly combination in the English condition and no matter how bad form is Joe Root facing (Which he's not) he always produce 40+ runs in each inning, its another discussion that he gets out after that most of the time.
5182  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: July 13, 2020, 07:01:52 AM
Not expected at all. I guess England is a way better team than West Indies. I didn't watch the match though; kept some update only. Lucky that I was busy with gambling on soccer onlym Otherwise, I would have lost definitely.
It is obvious England are a much better team but the main players was taking an extended break and West Indies was able to capitalize on the situation and win the first match which no one really expected, the major difference in this match was the way in which both captains played and the team they selected and crucial catch Ben Stokes missed in slips which was a straight forward catch off Blackwood, literally the dropped the match.
I think england was still with the best bowling lineup yes their batting lineup looked a bit novice but you have to praise west Indies as to how good they batted. Even west indies team Isn't a much experienced team so all on all i think west indies did play a pretty nice game. The way holder bowled is magnificent and how blackwood Batted in pressure conditions it was great too.
Looking at now, it seems England was bit over confident, that's a only reason they left Broad out. Sloppy fielding made it worse and didn't helped their cause. Blackwood batted well but English fielder gave him 2 chances by dropping his catch early on his inning (5, 20) result he and Roston Chase came up with 4th wicket partnership.

Broad and Joe root will join the playing XI in the next match. so we can hope 1-1 and then series decider on 3rd test match.

Last day of 1st test and no forecast of rain so far. 40 game points at stake, England need those points badly. Situation looking bit tricky for both teams as game could go anywhere from here.

For England perspective, they would be very happy if they can set target around 200-210 and Windies need to wrap up tail asap.

England : 297/8 .. 183 lead so far

Edit : 9 wicket down lead is now 189 193 runs

Edit: Target 200 runs.

Couple of days back BCCI official started this news by saying that NZ offered to host IPL but now statement coming from the NZC spoke person and he denies all the rumor by saying its just speculation.  Roll Eyes

New Zealand Cricket has not offered to host IPL 2020, says spokesperson Richard Boock

such an unprofessional work from BCCI.  I think they should be more careful before they publish any news. if New-Zeland host this IPL, I think it will be good.  because the prevalence of coronavirus has decreased in New-Zeland. on the other hand, it is increasing day by day in India. so, it is a difficult work for BCCI that organizing IPL in India.
The best i can think of is that some one from the BCCI planted this news for fun/purposely or just to feed media outlets so that they can keep up the speculation debate alive, it happens time to time for setting a narrative.
5185  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: July 11, 2020, 05:51:51 AM
~snip~
Yeah, 99% chances (Without spectators; question is where?). I have mentioned numerous times that IPL is first priority for BCCI because its their lifeline. They don't have any other choice, so only 1% chance of cancellation. The way i see it, BCCI waiting for official confirmation from the ICC in regards of T-20 World Cup cancellation. Once they cancel WC, then we can expect some quick action from the BCCI.

I might be dead wrong on my calculation when giving % number in favor of IPL/BCCI here but that's make sense to me right now when i look at the big picture.

I think the sole problem isn't spectator but the teams and support staff too. We have 8 teams with roaster of 20 players each and followed by support staff and few managers from franchises. Even if they decide to keep it in just one city like Mumbai. Still accommodating so many players within a city can be cumbersome. And not to forget that foreign players would have to undergo a long quarantine. I think all the players would be kept in complete isolation for complete series. So all this doesn't makes sense as per current protocols. But yes it's thousands of crores at stake. I won't be surprised if BCCI gets ready to fight with Government too on this issue.
When $500 Millions at stake then anything is possible all they have to do is invest bit more in logistics and safety of players, which they are already aware of and its very much doable IMO. As far as i know Center gov doesn't have much say in it as they already issued a multiple guideline when they unlocked the lock down (except opening Intl air route, BCCI is capable to hire private jets for personal use) so its all comes down to state gov. BCCI would like to see IPL going ahead in India but their first choice is UAE and UAE seems eager to host IPL season. I would like to see IPL in Sri Lanka as its economical good option but UAE is okay too.

~snip~

There is a major problem in having a quick turn around even when the ICC cancels the world cup to resume the IPL, the players are at home for months and they need around a month to prepare to get back to peak fitness and match practice to get to international standards. I would like to see transparency from ICC on what they are planning to do and how much money they wanted to risk by conducting the matches during pandemic or take it safely but extending the series.
Not sure what exactly you meant by transparency... ICC earns from the ICC tournaments mainly ( world cup is about to cancel)
As far as WTC is concern ICC is working on something, Bangladesh board already raised this issue "extending the WTC" and couple of other cricket boards gave green light to this debate so its work in progress.

England and Windies playing against each others, this test series is part of WTC so ICC monitoring it as usual. Pakistan is waiting for their turn and they are already camping in England.

Asia cup cancellation decision came from ACC, ICC doesn't has any say.

You again singing Stokes anthem? this is for you then . hahhaha

Yeah, have fun until he come up with another monster innings :-D
Let's call it draw.  Grin

He literally wrapped up the windies lower order all by himself and claimed 4 wicket. If he keep bowling for another 30 mins then fifer for him without any doubt.

Score : 317/9 .. Lead 113 runs so far.

Edit: Windies : 318 all out, lead 114 runs.

Mark Wood picked the last wicket.  Grin no fifer for Stokes.
5187  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: July 10, 2020, 02:07:00 PM
If Stokes was in the right position then we would see another wicket LOL

Well English team has Ben Stokes :-P
.
If individual player is the criteria then they have Jason holder.
You again singing Stokes anthem? this is for you then . hahhaha

Edit : Okay new ball is coming any moment now. England need to bank on this opportunity otherwise they are in deep mess and easy 100+ lead for Windies.

Update: New ball doing its magic, let's see if Anderson can save his team or not. Poor show from Jofra Archer so far.

Noticed one thing, they are using sweat on ball. I thought it was banned too???

5189  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: July 10, 2020, 12:54:08 PM
^^ Jofra not doing good as well. As soon as Windies cross 250 runs on scoreboard with 5-6 wickets in hand then English camp might miss Broad badly.

Anderson-Broad combination is lethal in the English conditions.

UAE also got decent amount of corona cases but they are good at controlling by giving good regulations but still Do you believe that it is possible to host IPL 2020 successfully?

Honestly I already lost the hope of watching IPL for this year, now the whole country is afraid of covid 19 effect in the near future.

Just in ... Asia Cup is cancelled, says Ganguly
~edited out~
This is really sad to know that finally Asia cup is cancelled and now it will be held in 2022 in Pakistan. All this is being done to make the IPL possible as Asia cup schedule was conflicting with the IPL. If Asia Cup 2020 postponed due to Covid-19, there should be no way PSL or IPL could take place at the same time.
Yeah, No Asia cup this year. saw some confirmed news of cancellation as well, now they are looking at 2021 Asia cup in Sri lanka. We could argue if its ethical or not but fact is everything comes down at revenue so its shouldn't be that surprising.

250 is winning target here. They should try to wrap up English batsmen under 180 if they want to taste any kind of success.

Day -2 fellas.. : 60/3

Top 3 ( Sibley, Joe Denly,Rory Burns ) gone, all of them are victim of Shannon Gabriel. Denly and Rory were looking good but Gabriel was too good for them. Now its all up to Ben stokes as there is no Joe Root.

Its not a wonder because India is sitting at the top 3 in the world in number of corona cases and there is a research from experts says India will face the worse situation of corona in 2021 if vaccine is not found at that time everyday there will be 2.97 new active corona cases will be recorded. Huh

You are right about cases in India but context is different because India didn't had hosting rights for Asia Cup.

Pakistan has a hosting rights for 2020 season and it was supposed to take place in Pakistan but BCCI declined to Pakistan due to obvious reasons and agreed to participate only if there is a neutral location, PCB knew that already so it was mutually decided that UAE will host the tournament.

But covid-19 changed the scenario and WC is about to cancel anytime now (according to ICC + CA). BCCI eyeing on every opportunity to start IPL 2020 so it was obvious choice for them to lobbying and influence the verdict on Asia Cup.

PS : UAE is also front runner to host IPL 2020.

Oh!

Thanks for the update @JSRAW, I might have missed this out. I was in the assumption that IPL will get postponed till things get normal in India. I never thought other countries will offer BCCi to hold the tournament.

No problem, UAE and Sri lanka's proposal are confirmed but NZ offer seems rumor/speculation according to new report.

Some news for you guys..

- NZ joins the rank and offered to host this year IPL in New Zealand after UAE and Srilanka, UAE is first choice, SL is cost effective and NZ is almost Covid free (but time-zone difference)

About WC and IPL
Quote
"It's difficult to say which will be India's first international series. We've done our preparations but we can't do much till we know the government rules. We are not in a hurry because the health of players is of the utmost importance. We are monitoring things monthly," added Ganguly.

Ganguly also reiterated the BCCI's stance that the IPL can happen after a decision is announced by the ICC on the fate of the World T20.

"(If the T20 World Cup gets cancelled) then we will try everything to stage the IPL. It is very important for Indian cricket. We will try to host it in India," said Ganguly.

"The cancellation of T20 World Cup will happen soon because all countries are asking for a direction from ICC. We'll know by mid-July. My gut-feeling is saying it's tough."

Quote
CA chairman Earl Eddings has already clarified the ICC T20 World Cup was "unlikely" and "unrealistic". "It's a bit of a moving feast at the moment. I'd say it's unlikely, while it hasn't been formally called off this year or postponed, trying to get 16 countries into Australia in the current world where most countries are still going through Covid-19 spiking is very, very difficult," he had said.

However, the International Cricket Council had deferred a decision for one more month and will meet on July 17 to decide the fate of the tournament. "The ICC is trying their best to stage the T20 World Cup because that brings in a lot of revenue," said Ganguly. "We don't have a window for IPL yet because we have to play in Australia in December. That's FTP and we can't change that. Australia is one country where, apart from Melbourne, things are returning to norm

England won the toss and opt to bat.

So we had 3 overs game so far before rain interrupted the fun ... (67 overs left today)

England already lost 1 wicket (Dominic Sibley)  Wink

Score: 1/1

Seeing Stokesis picture and knowing him in the squad feels good. The most exciting feeling is that cricket is back. Thank God. I am going for England without any doubt.
Going with England seems easy choice considering home advantage and 2 regular windies missing in the test squad due to personal reasons, would be good if you dig in and say Inning win or 100 +runs/ 8-9 wickets win.

But again don't underestimate Windies bowlers and don't over estimate English batsmen.  Tongue

Raining.................. Whoosh

Update : Still raining lol
