5181  Economy / Exchanges / Re: 2018 Crypto theft overview on: February 25, 2019, 12:15:35 PM
"Electrum Hack $900k" just for December 2018?
Then the recent Phishing Scam ("Hack" isn't the right term IMO) of some malicious servers will easily make it to $1.3mil+.
Don't know how much was stolen but if you've checked the destination address(es), you'll notice that it had been consolidated to a lot of addresses with 30/40BTC each.

Like this address: bc1qhsrl6ywvwx44zycz2tylpexza4xvtqkv6d903q (could be an exchange or mixer address, don't use as evidence/reference)
5182  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: "We found 2 results related to your search" blockchain.info is crazy. on: February 25, 2019, 04:31:17 AM
They changed. Now instead of a "go" there is a dropdown menu. -snip-
Haha, just as I suggested above. Coincidence or are they silently reading Bitcointalk threads?

Now we only need the same drop-down menu on the search tab in the home page.
Shame that they are not responding nor creating BCT account to respond for it's one of the best blockexplorers available in the web (UI/speed-wise).
5183  Economy / Speculation / Re: Here we go. Bitcoin ripping through $4000 on: February 25, 2019, 04:07:09 AM
See? Like I've said in the first page (when it was still $4k+), there are still a lot of missing hype drivers for this to be a Bull Market.
Unless the newbies can follow the news and current events, they will not be surprised from Bull traps like this.

Of course, seasoned veterans already knew this and hopefully sold @ $4k.
5184  Other / Off-topic / Re: Awarding Merit for quality posts [Newbies - Jr Members] on: February 24, 2019, 07:08:53 AM
@Heisenberg_Hunter Mind if I help "grading" posts that deserve merit(s)?

I hope i can get merit -snip-
Nothing substantial about the computation and definitely, you have no idea about the prices of KYC data in the "dark" web and what will be the applications of those sold personal info Wink

I hope i will get that 1 of 19 -snip-
I usually merit newbies with 1 liner post if it has sense and/or constructive honest opinion/question, but not these types.

Nice to meet you and this is my post, hope it will be helpful! -snip-
[+1 Merit] This one deserves merit however, most of his other posts were "generic replies" to topics with too many pages
which doesn't have a real conversation, just "monological answers".
Next time, choose the right topic (depending on your expertise) and as much as possible, participate to the conversation (like that merited post).
5185  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet: segwit and the @dresse starting with "3" on: February 24, 2019, 06:04:32 AM
-snip-
Today I followed this guide to the letter with v3.3.3 but i ended with bech32 addresses. I guess this trick doesn't work anymore?
This was for the Old version when Electrum doesn't have an option for making Segwit "3-prefix" addresses.
New version's setting is actually easier and simplified unlike the old versions.

First, you just have to select "BIP39" from the "options" button in the input SEED window; it will display BIP39 checksum "ok".
Next and lastly, in the next window, select "p2sh-p2wpkh" when prompted to choose which wallet type you are trying to create.
That will make Segwit "3" addresses.
5186  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What exactly is Bitcoin Core? on: February 24, 2019, 03:22:44 AM
Straight to the point as the subject says "What exactly is Bitcoin Core?".
-snip-
So you've explored google, you should have seen Bitcoin Core fork of Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash propaganda's naming scheme to Bitcoin (as Bitcoin Core).
As you can see from the replies, it is (one of the) first Bitcoin client and a full node of Bitcoin; thus I wont explain further.

As for the "other" google results:
  • 1. Bitcoin Core [BTCC] Fork - is a fork of Bitcoin which has its own network protocol and chain; it is not related to bitcoin's blockchain, community or development in any ways.
  • 2. Bitcoin Cash usually name Bitcoin as "Bitcoin Core" in many clients and websites that they own/partnered with to misdirect newbies into buying Bitcoin Cash instead of Bitcoins. Also, they are claiming that Bitcoin was classic and "old" version of Bitcoin.
But now the issues has been ceasing~ish.
5187  Economy / Speculation / Re: Here we go. Bitcoin ripping through $4000 on: February 24, 2019, 02:41:32 AM
Where do you see this going?

-Bulltrap
-Back to lower lows
-Moon
Better edit the thread and include a Poll with these choices so users can cast a vote without hitting the reply button.

For the topic, it does looks like the start of a bull market however, there are few things that are still missing for it to be a bullish like widespread FUDs and varieties of ICOs (declining due to the recent scam-fests); bad or not, those will greatly affect the market price.
What we have now are the effects of major/famous crypto-related payment processors' scaling decisions that were favored by the crypto community.
5188  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet being attacked on: February 23, 2019, 03:42:03 PM
Actually yes, I downloaded from electrum.org and I double checked to make sure it's not a nulled version.
But that's a weird default installation directory for Windows installer version: C:/Program Files (x86)/ElectrummS3/electrum-e.3.3.4.exe
Electrum will never use that directory nor folder name unless you named it like that.

Have you checked your browser's or internet options' proxy settings? Because some malware are able to set it (even with AV) to redirect your browser to malicious sites like fake electrum sites.
I suggest to stop using it for now until you verified the signature.
5189  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: help to identify a service by only 1 screenshot on: February 23, 2019, 04:09:34 AM
The UI is similar to Project Edge automatic trading.
Here's the "how to page" which shows the whole image based from your cropped screenshot: Link

However, I don't think that entrusting your cryptos to "automatic trading" is a good idea. Be cautious!
5190  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Old blockchain.info stuck on: February 23, 2019, 03:28:38 AM
Support's not helping .. been nearly 2 years.. hundreds of thousands stuck .. is there ANY hope for my savings??
Haven't you tried the "Recover Wallet" option? It's integrated with their "Forgot Password" link but it works with old SEEDs: https://login.blockchain.com/wallet/forgot-password

Here's what the note from the link says:
If you have a legacy wallet recovery mnemonic saved enter it below to view the password and login link.
If it happen to be "new HD SEED" use this link instead: https://login.blockchain.com/#/recover
5191  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: LIST OF ELECTRUM TRUSTED SERVERS on: February 23, 2019, 02:46:05 AM
Always online and trusted?

Try: electrum.coinucopia.io     Port:50002
I can't vouch for the integrity of this server but I've been using it for years and I never encountered any downtime using it.
No malicious pop-ups neither.

On the other note, most compromised servers are just displayed IP addresses (but not all IP listed servers are not the hacker's servers).
5192  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Transaction with decent fee stuck without confirmations on: February 23, 2019, 02:33:24 AM
Immediatelly, after I posted, I got 1 confirmation.
What a coincidence. (lol)

If you're in a hurry, you can use free Transaction accelerators like: ViaBTC-TxAccelerator as long as the fee is greater than 10sat/byte like yours exactly (24sat/byte).
If it was SegWit, the tx fee you've set might be different than what blockexplorers or accelerators can read; so if you want it to be >10sat/byte to be eligible, increase it to at least 20 sat/byte.
5193  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: iVendPay - a vending machine payment module on: February 22, 2019, 11:46:23 AM
I don't think there is any special app one needs to install. This man in the video clearly says "open your wallet" and then he performs standard QR scan. Nothing suggest that dedicated application is necessary. I would say that there is quite nice selection of coins, so to me it already looks usable and frankly awesome. If I was to have a vending machine, this box would be on my strongly consider list.
Check the banner, it looks like the "integrated app" in the banner suggests that transactions are instant because it was built "in an integrated exchange" (as the slogan said) suggesting that there's an app to accomplish this.
Also, the phone app's UI in the video strongly resembles the theme.

There's no problem here if it was an exchange/payment processor aside from what I have mentioned.
Not to mention, there are tons of problem accepting P2P payments using Bitcoin without the aid of a payment processor or an easy-access LN.
We will never know unless we get a reply from their representative.
5194  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: iVendPay - a vending machine payment module on: February 22, 2019, 04:09:52 AM
Based on the video, it's pretty much of an exclusive integrated payment processor which you can only use to vending machine(s) with that module.
Vending machine owners might be charmed by the idea (if the module is cheap), but most users will be hesitant to install an app and load some coins just to pay for a cup of coffee.

I'm skeptical about the implications of this to help crypto into mainstream unless they have a plan to accept other crypto payment processors as payment or a plan to add more varieties of services. Must be in their roadmap, no?
Otherwise, it is just a gimmick.
5195  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: The electrum 3.3.4 portable version does not work? on: February 22, 2019, 02:45:02 AM
The old version is running fine but the problem right now the update notification keeps showing up. That is why I decided to download the new version and use the portable version as temporary. -snip-
It's working fine now, so just FYI:
It can be disabled in the settings if you do not want to be a guinea pig for updates  Grin

Preferences -> General Tab -> Uncheck: "Automatically check for software updates".
5196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Samsung confirms the rumor! on: February 22, 2019, 02:29:14 AM
it looks like their version of a built-in hardware wallet
I see it more like a feature to make people discuss about the new phone(s).
To me, they just wanted to be "the first" smartphone to implement such feature that they can brag about. If the technology became mainstream, they already at the starting line and can immediately proceed to increase the user-base, thus their market.

Quote from: NeuroticFish
I would not use something this expensive and this prone to be stolen to keep my keys. -snip-
I would rather worry more about 90% of the apps that were Malwares/Adwares and Online Smartphone Groups that can potentially crack the encryption (using an alibi of testing their phone's security) of the stored private keys than my phone being stolen, I never had such incident.
5197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Samsung confirms the rumor! on: February 21, 2019, 07:30:41 AM
I guess we need to wait until March 8th until it ships and some Crypto lover can actually try out the feature
Maybe this will help (quote from: Samsung)
Quote from: news.samsung.com
Security: Galaxy S10 is built with defense-grade Samsung Knox, as well as a secure storage backed by hardware, which houses your private keys for blockchain-enabled mobile services.

By the context, it looks like their version of a built-in hardware wallet not just a private key storage (if ever, it will be an obsolete feature).
This could mean that they are planning to release services, apps or integrate with existing services which will make use of the locally stored private keys to use just like a hardware wallet.
@OP This "rumor" was already been discussed here: Samsung S10 crypto wallet leaks since January 24.

5199  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Which wallets support BIP 39 seed? on: February 21, 2019, 03:49:32 AM
-snip- but the problem they are not supporting BIP39 seed.
Op is asking for fries and you gave him a burger Cheesy

@2double0 Have you tried cold storage? Almost all desktop clients are vulnerable to hacks depending on the system security, not just bugs in the code.
Maybe you're thinking about Electrum, you can't be hacked using Electrum, you can be hacked by downloading fake versions of it; but if you ever installed a fake version in the offline machine (cold storage), the hacker will not be able to acquire your seed/keys.

[just about 8 reports here in the forum versus tens of thousands of users]
Good set-up or caution is the key.
5200  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Restore wallet using BIP39 on: February 21, 2019, 03:13:03 AM
Do you have an already modified offline files that can be downloaded? Or just a fork of https://github.com/iancoleman/bip39 with the edited code?
Because newbies and some Electrum users will find it useful at times like this; manually editing the code themselves is much of a hassle or out of their expertise (though HTML can be edited using notepad and pretty much basic, some may find it hard).

You're a trusted member and if it is hosted in Github and a fork of the original, most members will trust it.
