521  Economy / Speculation / Re: Self control cannot be neglected as an early investor on: January 22, 2024, 09:59:27 PM
I just started DCAING into bitcoin some months ago with the purpose of becoming a long term holder, I've got my funds in place, I've done my cashflow check up, I've started building my emergency funds, I'm following all the rules that I think I need to follow to reach my goals as long term holder. But guess what happened yesterday?.
I used the money I was supposed to use to lump sum into bitcoin to buy a game. Lame right, very lame. While a lot of persons would talk down on me right now about this cause I know I've messed up and was supposed to say no to that urge to just spend more. Although I've replaced it today with a lot of hard work. I've learnt a lesson. To succeed as an investor you must have self control. I had every reason to say no to the urge to get a game but I didn't. I lacked self control to say no myself and do the right thing.
I would have said that you acted unwisely but reading further showed that you converted your mistake to a lesson not just for yourself but for others. We all make mistakes in life but what is important is the lesson we derive from our shortcomings and our ability not to repeat such an error. The ability to separate needs from wants will make you a good investor. Focusing on out basic needs is what will give use the privilege of saving to invest.

Quote
If anyone must achieve any desire in life, he must have the self control to control his lists cause here I am burning with desire to accumulate bitcoin and this same me went ahead to forfeit it for a game. All I know is I'm never gonna make this same mistake again.
There are always what to spend or waste money on. Manufacturers will keep producing attractive products that will entice us to buy them even when we know that we don't really need them. Self-discipline is very important if you want to save and invest. Buying a video game is just for pleasure,  meanwhile, investment should always come before fun. If you have a burning desire to accumulate Bitcoin, you should also imbibe the virtues of focus and self-control.
522  Economy / Economics / Re: Passion for skills. on: January 22, 2024, 09:35:34 PM

In addition, language, especially in English, because it is the basic language to be able to communicate internationally, and I also see that some people have good abilities but they don't have the language to get a bigger salary abroad, because in my country, the salary standard is still relatively small, also when we have a business it is easy to do marketing and also get investors from outside so that our business can invade or marketing becomes wider.
Learning a major language could be very helpful and could fetch a high-paying job especially if it is related to classroom teaching. But with the invention of various sophisticated applications that could interpret different languages, I doubt if these kinds of skills will be highly demanded in future. Learning how to use AI language interpreters to perform these tasks could be more enterprising.
Yes, although basically we can use automatic translator applications for languages but I think it will not be as efficient and effective as we use the language we master, especially if we are in offline discussions or simple conversations to make an emotional approach with clients.

I think language is very important in an opportunity, and in various situations when getting a lot of foreign clients it will make us more courageous and confident in interacting with them, as well as in crypto projects themselves where they developers need people to manage communities in different countries, and yes the pay is quite decent in my opinion.
I am not saying that artificial intelligence will eliminate language transaction jobs totally but my take is that it will limit the number of job opportunities. Many of these languages interpreting jobs will be taken over by these machines especially if it is not related to face-to-face conversations. But one can also take advantage of these AI tools to learn more languages. If you are effective in using these tools, you might not need to learn these languages because these tools could be very helpful in the translation of languages you have a low level of mastery.

When I hear the term skills in relation to jobs, I think of things like plumbing, gas engineers and electricians. These are true trades that seem pretty timeless and in high demand, that also have a barrier of entry - requiring decent qualifications and education in order to be effective. I am actually starting to feel a bit skeptical about certain other skills in the market, like graphic design or even writing work, which is gradually being automated by artificial intelligence.
I was well informed by your post and I accept almost everything you have said. Most of these computer-related jobs can be easily taken over by these machines. So I will recommend jobs that require physical or practical skills to anybody because these jobs are ageless. The only difference is the seasonal introduction of new machines or equipment to make the job faster and easier.
523  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: While placing bet what comes your mind on: January 22, 2024, 08:42:38 PM
Yesterday was trying to place bet and during the process something in me keeps telling me to increase your wager do you know if you would hit something you never won before.. I was like is this how other people are being controlled by gambling or is it how it works? I said, no wonder some people gamble and finishes their allocation for the week or month. This can even lead someone to also go borrow if this feeling is not killed and stop, you can also see that this attributes in gambling addiction.
Such kind of thought don't just happen in gambling but in other areas of life. You will always have the feeling to put in more money in gambling or other endeavours because you might perceive that you might win big. Humorously sometimes it turns out to be the right decision and you win big from such a bet increase. And you will begin to tell how your intuition was just correct but in some other cases, you tend to regret your action and even claim that such thoughts came from the devil.

Quote
However, have you had this feeling while gambling before be it offline casino and online casinos?
I have had this feeling several times and in may of these cases I regretted my actions because I lost. From then henceforth I am not greedy to increase my bet because of a mere feeling. I always follow my gambling plans no matter how I am feeling. Although I might have won bigger in some occasions if I had increased my bet my decision has saved me from unnecessary losses and regrets.
524  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be careful and don’t promote a scam campaign on: January 22, 2024, 07:58:21 PM
Any scam project should not be promoted especially when everyone is aware of their illicit attitude towards their users. Despite all accusations against them they have done very little to gain trust by attending to the scam issues labeled against them.
Avoiding them would be a better approach but it seems not all members have the same view of the issue, and since promoting such projects is against the ethics of the forum majority of the participants will end up getting their accounts tagged.
The ideal thing to do is to solve issues with users before engaging in any form of promotion.
These well-known scam projects are mainly promoted by shitposters who don't care about the reputation of their account. The main focus of members who join such projects is to make money through the hook or crook. Most of the accounts that are used to promote these campaigns are worthless and receive negative tags for various offences. Other accounts that are clean are impatient to wait for better campaigns so they end up joining these scam projects because of money.

Newbies should be aware of these projects and avoid them if they want to enjoy their stay on this forum because a negative trust can destroy an account that took so much hard work to build. One of the ways to avoid joining these scam campaigns is to do research on them in this forum before joining.
525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin Rebound This Week on: January 22, 2024, 07:27:07 PM
According to data from the Coinglass platform, the current open positions in Bitcoin futures contracts have reached $17.582 billion.  CME holds the largest share at $4.769 billion, followed by Binance at $4.151 billion, and Bybit at $3.199 billion.  The substantial open interest across these platforms suggests significant market activity. So will Bitcoin rebound this week?

Bitcoin price can be unpredictable because it can be influenced by many economic factors. And most of these economic factors are also very difficult to predict. I never expected the price of Bitcoin to drop to this extent after the approval of the Spot Bitcoin ETF by the SEC. I was expecting the price to move to at least $50k but the reverse is the case now. I think the price will not recover this week and I also suspect that the price might keep depreciating until after the Bitcoin halving. As I earlier stated the price is unpredictable so a positive global economic outlook might make the price appreciate.

527  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is your state on mind if your son stole your money to gamble? on: January 20, 2024, 09:12:17 PM
Now, the mum is calling on everyone she could to intervene, discipline the child and force him to provide the money in any means he can without the concern of how he could refund the money.
The age of the child should be very important in dealing with this issue. If he is up to the age of gambling it is a stealing problem but if he is underage, the case will become more complicated.

The child shouldn't be forced to bring back the money especially if he is still depending on the parents financially except they want him to steal to repay what he has lost. What he needs is sound counseling and not threats or severe punishment. He should be told the implications of what he has done and the future consequences if he becomes addicted. He needs to know that this behavior could make him steal outside the home because he wants to satisfy his gambling urge.

Quote
Question: would she be so disheartened and mad as this if the son had won the bet on a multi million price?
Dear fellows, let's assume you are the mom, what would be your state of mind on this context?
Let's call a spade a spade, stealing is an immoral behavior regardless of the consequences. I will be mad at him and even discipline him but will still accept the win. He needs to know that I didn't support his actions and shouldn't repeat such behavior. I will be happy that he won big but I will concentrate more on his misbehavior than the money h won. From then I will keep a close eye on him to monitor his gambling activities.
528  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Denying yourself comfortability in other to buy Bitcoin on: January 20, 2024, 08:55:24 PM
Based on their commitment to keep to their decision it makes me ask myself how do this set of person go about their daily lives when they know they can afford those things they see around?
Determination is the soul of every investor. This set of persons is determined to forgo pleasure because they know that the future will be better if they invest wisely today. I think that the most important needs are food, shelter, clothing, education and other basic things. For you to keep investing, there is a need to have self-control which makes one focus less on wants and more on investment.

Quote
Lastly have anyone come across any individual who will deny his comfort for Bitcoin and what do you think are their motivations?
One does not need to suffer or die because you want to accumulate Bitcoin. You have to take care of yourself and your family first before thinking of investing because there are things that are more important than making money. Investing shouldn't deprive you of the good things in life. I think we should have a budget that will help us in planning how we spend and invest our income. Our priority should be our basic needs and any remaining funds can be invested in Bitcoin. Their motivation could be to create a financially stable future for themselves and their family members.
529  Economy / Economics / Re: Passion for skills. on: January 20, 2024, 08:33:54 PM
So, my question is very simple. What skills are you currently learning or have learned and are earning from, and what is the reason why you picked it?
From close observation of the global working environment, we can conclude that artificial intelligence is one of the current technologies that is dominating the workspace. It has been reported that artificial intelligence tools will make many people jobless because they can perform almost the same things humans can do more faster and accurately. But the truth is that artificial intelligence is also creating more jobs globally. The best thing anybody could do now is to integrate AI tools into their tasks or responsibilities. Application of these tools to our work responsibilities makes the employee a highly sought-after worker.

Therefore, I am currently learning how to apply different AI applications to my profession. I am currently researching how these tools could increase the productivity of employees in my field and the result will be helpful to me and others.

530  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Saudi Professional League 2023/2024 on: January 19, 2024, 02:05:54 PM
Jose Mourinho had an offer from Al-Shabaab during the last summer but he didn't accept the offer and he decided to stay with Roma even after the huge amount of money he could get from the Saudis after joining this team but now after Roma got him fired from the team, Al-Shabaab again sent him an offer and tried to hire this famous coach.
According to the news, Mourinho is now very close to Joni Al-Shabaab and taking the place of Igor Bišćan in this team.
For now, Jose Mourinho has very few options. There is no interest from any European club because his performance in Roma this season was not encouraging. Moving to the Saudi Arabia league will be a perfect choice for the Portuguese tactician. But he will be faced with a herculean task in Al-Shabab FC. The club is currently in 11th position far below the expectations of the management and fans because they finished 4th last season. But the good part of the proposed deal is that he would have access to enough funds to land the kind of players he wants. His years of experience in Europe could also be an advantage since he could easily convince some of his ex-players to join him in Al-Shabab FC. It will be interesting to see how Jose will try to reclaim his "special one" title in the Gulf league.

532  Economy / Economics / Re: JP Morgan Chase fights 45 billion hack attempts a day. on: January 19, 2024, 08:59:24 AM
Fiat doesn't feel safe, specially after reading that 😂
62,000 cybercrime fighters to repel attacks, that's outrageous. These cybercriminals have created a lot of jobs for technologists Angry. This is clear proof that the claim that fiat is safe is clearly false. These platforms will always have something to blame just to cover up their security lapses. Now they are claiming that these attacks were carried out by Russia as a retaliation for sanctions placed on them by the West. I wonder how they came to such conclusions.

But I subscribe to the fact that the increase in the development of artificial intelligence will be a main catalyst for this hack attempt. Cybercrime will keep increasing because these criminal actors are becoming smarter and more technologically inclined. I prefer to be responsible for the security of my funds than to put it in the hands of strangers.
533  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: January 19, 2024, 08:19:46 AM
Salah's predicted injury is a hamstring injury. I think it won't be too serious. In the short term, the Egyptian team will be directly affected if Salah is absent. As for Liverpool, their schedule this January is not too heavy, they only have to play one match in the Premier League against Bournemouth.
That's why Liverpool can completely give Salah the right to rest in the next few weeks if he is unfortunately injured. The Premier League championship race still has a long way to go. This is just a temporary shortfall for Liverpool. Mancity should not be too hasty to rejoice and lose focus.
The news about the gravity of the hamstring injury might be out today after a proper medical checkup. Both Egypt and Liverpool will be hoping that that injury is not that serious. His absence will have some negative impact on the Pharaohs as we saw the Ghanaian fans cheering when they saw that he was injured. Everyone knows that Salah is a threat to any defense. Liverpool will want him back as soon as possible to get the best medical treatment because they need the striker to fight for all the competitions they intend to win this season.

Liverpool and Manchester City will be very difficult opponents to beat, so Arsenal will have to work well as a team to get the win.
Arsenal need a run of victories to get themselves feeling like title contenders again, their morale has dropped a little but it is still early enough to fix things. The thing is, the level of competition in the EPL is elite and the top teams have to be at their best to compete for the title, Arsenal definitely know this from their experience last season and how they failed to keep up with the pace of City at the top and in the end failed to win the title after leading the standings for so long. Liverpool and City might turn it into a two horse race if Arsenal don't wake up, and it'd be another disappointing season for the Gunners.
Aston Villa has become more competitive than Arsenal in recent times. The Gunners have won just one game in five games while Villa have won two. Until Arsenal puts in more effort to win more games teams like Chelsea might overtake them if the latter puts more effort. Mikel Arteta will have to do more to improve the team especially to move to the UCL quarterfinals.
534  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ETFs - Good or Bad? on: January 19, 2024, 07:29:48 AM
Everything that has advantages also has disadvantages. Institutional investors attract more money and attention to the Bitcoin space. Many people who never knew anything about the currency will begin to be aware of what Bitcoin stands for. Some persons would never have invested in Bitcoin if not for the ETF because they can't keep their keys or passwords safe.

But all this attention and increased Investment comes with a price which is centralisation and loss of privacy. The only reason why the SEC approved the ETF is because they have devised various mechanisms to control the sector.

We cannot stop these investors from acquiring Bitcoin because it is a free market but we can still maintain our privacy and enjoy decentralization. Nobody will force you to sell your coin to anybody, it's still a matter of choice. It will also be difficult for these institutions to control the market because Bitcoin is still decentralized. I sense that the government will target decentralized platforms shortly but for now, we still have a choice.

I hope people are not too blinded by greed to see the dangers of Bitcoin ETFs and the centralization of the tokens in Fiat controlled trading platforms.
People will always invest in profitable areas. The only problem is that they are investing in the right commodity through the wrong channel. Sadly many of them don't know the implications of what they are doing because they don't have enough information about Bitcoin. Maybe a hack or bankruptcy of these centralized platforms will force them to learn more.
535  Economy / Speculation / Re: Retiring early with BTC on: January 18, 2024, 06:39:06 PM
So basically we need to sell the btc and a good price to cover all year's expenses and what happens if the price is at the bear market like we are now?

I think the best idea is still to use bitcoin as a digital gold or as a tool against inflation. and we can use other form of coin that has a gain on it like the ETH or BNB

Perhaps the best path for many people is actually not to retire early, keep enjoying your job while you're young, AND because you have your Bitcoin as your fall-back, not worry too much about your retirement. What will a person do if he/she retires early? He/she will just sell and spend every Satoshi he/she has worked hard to save.
I read a funny story that most people who retire early find it very boring that they want to go back to work. They missed their job and corporate life and they are going back to work. What will a young and vibrant man be doing after retirement? Maybe going on vacation, fishing, reading, watching movies or reading newspapers. There is no reason to retire early except there are maybe health issues or other conditions that could lead to forced retirement.

As Wind_FURY said, let us keep enjoying jobs and contributing to the growth of our nation's economy until we reach retirement age. But we should make plans that will make us financially stable after retirement. Using the DCA strategy to keep saving Bitcoin for our retirement is not a bad idea. Before we retire we might be surprised by the amount of Bitcoin we might have accumulated using DCA. My focus is not to rely on just my gratuity or pension to survive, this is why keeping Bitcoin will be a good option to save for retirement.

However, thank you Greyhats for your analysis and advice.
536  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Africa Football Discussion || Current Topic: AFCON 2023 on: January 18, 2024, 06:18:35 PM
The first half of the game between Ivory Coast and Nigeria is over and I can categorically say that I'm more impressed with the performance of the Nigeria Super Eagles in this game than how they played in their first game of the tournament against Equatorial Guinea. The host nation are also playing well and is currently better in terms of possession but I'm optimistic that the Super Eagles are gonna win this particular game.
I don't think we should expect much from the Nigerian Super Eagles in the current African Cup of Nations. The team have been inconsistent because the coach José Peseiro has not shown any sign of professionalism or tactical prowess. For over three years now, Nigeria has failed to have a standard team. He was always been inconsistent in selecting players. He would keep inviting so different players to play in different games. With this attitude, the team cannot play in an organized manner because they have not understood themselves.

We all know that Nigeria has so many talents which makes selection very difficult for a coach but as a coach, he should select the best and build a team. Some of the players that are playing in this tournament have never played with each other before now. The Nigerian fans are hoping that they at least qualify for the next round because at that stage the players would have gotten some level of understanding of each other. But for them to make it to the next round, they must ensure they at least get a draw today.
537  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Nigeria unbans cryptocurrency on: January 18, 2024, 06:05:52 PM
Breaking news
https://cointelegraph.com/news/nigeria-cbn-greenlights-stablecoin-launch-february
"Nigeria’s central bank greenlights cNGN stablecoin to launch in February
The Africa Stablecoin Consortium said the cNGN stablecoin complies with the regulatory requirements and standards of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigerian SEC.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has approved the Africa Stablecoin Consortium (ASC) to pilot the cNGN stablecoin in its regulatory sandbox. The new stablecoin is to be launched on Feb. 27, 2024. "
Just like the eNaira, the cNGN stablecoin will not get the right attention from the public. This is because this coin will not solve the financial issues Nigerians face in the banking sector. Nigerians are embracing cryptocurrency not because they like the blockchain but because they want a currency that will serve as a hedge against inflation and also make them invade some unfriendly policies from the central bank. Using the cNGN stablecoin is like using the online banking service of a commercial bank which is marred by delays and other transaction issues. Since it is still the central bank that will supervise the operations of the Africa Stablecoin Consortium (ASC), Nigerians will still have to face the same draconian policies like withdrawal and deposit limits as well as KYCs. However, this project is still in its pilot stage, but I know that they will not get the best result just like the eNaira.

539  Economy / Economics / Re: Imagine African countries using Bitcoin to pay salaries, on: January 17, 2024, 07:00:06 AM
Besides the exchange rates and charges may also lead to short falls in their salaries within the same day salaries are paid. So someone that gets 100k as salary may end up getting 80 to 90k Nigerian Naira due to charges.

It is not possible, no country will allow any crypto currency to dominate their paper currencies in terms of usage and other transactions.
Nigeria is known to be one of the highest users of cryptocurrencies but it is rarely used for transactions. It is mainly used to cushion the effect of the failing local currency. However, Nigeria is still not ripe for the adoption of Bitcoin for the payment of salaries. The OP should recognize that most of the people that are into cryptocurrencies are youths, the other older people might lack basic knowledge of using cryptos. I am sure many workers will protest such a move by the government.

The Nigerian economy is also a fiat-dominated one in that most transactions are done using the local currency. We saw in the news how the scarcity of physical Naira notes led to anarchy in Nigeria. This is a clear indication that Nigeria is not even mature in online banking transactions.

There is no benefit of paying workers using Bitcoin for payment of salaries except these workers will be able to hodl it for a long time until the price appreciates. Based on the standard of living of most Nigerians, many of them spend their entire earnings on basic needs because their salaries are not even enough to cover expenses. So it will be rare to see workers saving from salaries except they have other sources of income.

The US commodities and futures trading commission has released a report where it describes that the problems in DeFi is in the absence of accountability and it recommends that the regulators work with DeFi development teams and take certain actions on digital identity.

It appears KYC will be coming soon to DeFi hehehee.
The government will not stop until they bring the crypto industry under strict control. This report is a step towards starting a discussion between regulators and key players in the industry on how to regulate the DeFi systems. This means we might start seeing debates in U.S. Congress, state legislatures, and regulators like the Commodity Futures Trading Commission on how to handle the so-called threat posed by DeFi systems. We just have to wait to see the outcome of these debates and discussions, however, this is not good news for those who cherish privacy.
