521  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: One more filed smear campaign against Bitcoin on: January 04, 2024, 04:18:19 PM
Haven't we learnt from the past? We are still doing panic selling which was witnessed as there were fuds created by some influencers about possible rejection of spot ETF and once this spread across we saw how people were on selling mode which literally brought down the value of Bitcoin to $40750. But this was a tight slap on face of those who tried bringing down Bitcoin as it survived this attempt as well and rising again.
If you think that panic will stop in the market, then you are new to the business. It is not perculiar to Bitcoin, it happens to anything being traded in the open market even in our localities. A speech by Fed Chair, Jerome Powell inject volatility into the entire forex market with people selling or buying aggressively.  Many people profits from this while some also get burnt from this. The key point is that panic buying and selling will continue to happen as it is part of the business.

Different people have different perspective and targets. It is mastery that makes the difference.  While some will see holding for long as a way of keeping the money redundant and not yielding much profits, some see it as the way to maximise profits.

522  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The is always on gambling, never the individual. on: January 04, 2024, 03:58:03 PM
The other day someone was talking about how he hates gambling as it nearly ruined his life, and within my mind I was like, no it was not gambling that nearly ruined you it was actually you that tried to ruin your life and that's because you refused to gamble responsibly and discipline yourself by not been capable of differentiating money meant for gambling from money meant for other projects in your life.

Why do people blame gamble for their own act of irresponsibility. No one is talking about their own part in their story of bad experience's with gambling, all we get to hear is gambling is bad and a useless activity. Why?
It is in human nature to deny responsibilities for this that do not turn out fine and bring accolades. If you want to confirm this, watch children blame one another over things that went bad when they know there will be consequences. No one want to be responsible for bad things and everyone want to be seen as impeccable. Gamblers are not exempted from this because most careless gamblers will look for who to blame for their failure. Some blame the bookies, some their friends and family or just anyone they can.

The earlier one start taking responsibilities, the better because gambling is all about your decision. It is your money, so use it as you please and don't blame anyone for your mistake.

523  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Kickstart January in style on: January 04, 2024, 11:10:31 AM
This week will be full of bitcoin ETFs topics. I have already read two topics, and if you search the forum, you will find more of them. Therefore, it is best to collect all of these topics in one place and wait. They are all for several days and we will see if they are approved or not.
Bitcoin thrives on news just like every other market, so the news of the ETF will shape the market behaviors at least for the interim until another strong news comes out. I personally believe that the ETF is something positive for Bitcoin considering the inflow of fresh capital that will follow such approvals. This will lead to an unprecedented surge in price before the market gets saturated once again. Those of us who are already holding Bitcoin will be the best favored.

What is not certain now is what the combined effect of the ETF approval and halving will do but there are chances it will lead to early bull run that we are already seeing even before 2025 that it was expected according to the market cycle.
524  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto and the Masses on: January 04, 2024, 09:35:59 AM
Cryptocurrencies have come a long way since the early days of Bitcoin and we are the early adopters of this remarkable technology.  But still the mass hasn't adopted blockchain technology or Cryptocurrencies. So, As you think, How can we bridge the gap between mainstream adoption and the complexities of blockchain technology? Share your thoughts on making crypto more accessible to the general public
I was thinking that the growing popularity of Bitcoin will lead to mainstream adoption very soon but after re-evaluating the situation, I have my doubts that we are going to achieve that any time soon. There are just too many factors militating against mainstream adoption with the chief among them being the high transaction fees and delay in transaction confirmation. Imagine walking into a shop to make purchase, thereafter paying through Bitcoin only to pay fees higher than the price of the good you bought. Why will people opt for this option when they can use fiat and pay minimal fees that will be confirmed within few minutes and sometimes instantly.
525  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: January 04, 2024, 08:59:18 AM
Most people find their way into the crypto space with no mentor to guide them on how important Bitcoin is and they think it is too late to invest in bitcoin.
There is little mentors can do about holding Bitcoin for long because most people panicking and selling are already aware of the benefits of holding for long. As a matter of fact, they know that there are people who have made decent amount of money by holding Bitcoin from its early days. Without being told, they already know that buying Bitcoin during bear season and holding until bull season within a cycle of few years will make them make some good profits.

According to 1miauHODL is purely a mental challenge. If you go through that submission, you will agree that the mentality of the hodler play an important role for a successful Bitcoin holding. There may be other factors that contribute to successful Bitcoin holding as well, such as planning both your finances and when/how to buy.

while some people are looking for where they will get x20 in the short term, not knowing that investing in shitcoins will only make them lose their money because they are gambling and not sure of winning. The manipulation in shitcoin is too much, for instance, if a shitcoin has a $500k market cap some whales can push the market cap to $2m, and once those whales sell their token you will see the shitcoin will do -70% from its price, and if you don't sell that shitcoin before those whales sold their holding, you will lose your money on that shitcoin investment because the shitcoin has been dumped where it will never recover from its price. In bitcoin investment, you just need bitcoin knowledge and funds to use and invest in bitcoin with the DCA strategy, and no one will manipulate you or take liquidity on your head.
The risk of investing in shitcoins are numerous. Obviously, shitcoins are created to steal people's money and they do that through different practices, some of which you already mentioned. 90% of those losing money in cryptocurrency had their encounter in shitcoins. That is why I will not encourage anyone to invest in shitcoins.
526  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can loneliness make one addicted to gambling on: January 03, 2024, 10:32:32 PM
Loneliness can make people to become addicted to anything that will distract their minds from the cause of their being lonely, there's a whole lot of addictions, alcohol and smoking, pornography, drug, womanizing and a whole lot including gambling. They'll initially engage in this acts as a temporary measure to get over their lose, and as time goes on they'll unintentionally become fully involved and eventually addiction will kick in, and it'll be difficult for them to leave it. Even if they finally overcome the addiction it's likely that they'll find another recreation to engage in to overcome the void that the addiction that they left will cause, in the end it'll be going into another addiction to get over an addiction. So it's best for anyone that is going through loneliness to be strong and disciplined, even if they most engage in gambling or any other activities to get over the pains of loneliness, they most tell themselves that it is temporary and bounce back as soon as possible.
A friend of mine only borrows money from other friends and deposits it into gambling and quickly repays the loaned money with gambling profits.  He has been gambling like this for a long time.  When asked he says his gambling is good and he enjoys gambling.  Gradually his gambling only increased.  So I think that Loneline actually increases the tendency to gamble and makes gambling more addictive. Because then they plan to win gambling and pay back the money they took from their friends quickly.  But they never think of losing side
This may not be a case of loneliness but it is definitely a bad habit. If you don't see what your friend is doing as gambling addiction, then you have to revisit the definition of gambling addiction because this is a clear case of it. Borrowing morning to gamble is the fastest way of accumulating debt because the bookies will ensure you never win to repay those loans. You might win a few times but they will always get back all the money. I have been in such situation before and I can tell you for a fact that it is not a place to be. You will hardly win even though you gamble with the same strategy you have been using before that have been working.
527  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: January 03, 2024, 10:08:54 PM
Real Madrid has a very good chance of winning tonight since the opponent I much more demotivated than them and according to statistics,  Real Madrid is winning and I will give them my sure winning in the game,  and also topping the la Liga in this season,  the only clubs that could pause a threat to Real Madrid in this season is Barcelona and Atletico Madrid since both clubs are also eyeing the top position and both clubs doing so well in their various games during this season.

But for sure Asernal is far from the top in the table this season as we are seeing much weak performance that could help the club to recover to the best position like others who were previously prevailing position in the last season and where the club is expected to be by the fans and management.
Real Madrid has a tough schedule coming up in February. They have their match against Girona and the Uefa Champions League matches. The injury list is quite bad as well. But Real Madrid won’t be signing any new players as far as I have heard. That might backfire. But Real Madrid has put faith in Ancelotti to push them through it and I believe if any accident does not happen, they will win both UCL and La Liga.
Real Madrid match against their rival Girona is like the decider for the season. With the performance Real Madrid put up tonight, I have no confidence they will be able to defeat Girona who are stronger than imagined. Madrid would have been held to a draw if not that Antonio Rudiger scored the 78th minutes header that gave Real Madrid the winning. Nevertheless, Real Madrid missed a lot of chances like the bar hit by Brahim Diaz, a clean scoring chances that was not converted. This season is showing like one with lots of surprises.

Girona scoring 3 goals in first half is a sign that they mean business. However, Atletico Madrid is not giving up as they have scored twice with their third cancelled. This would have kept goal that would have kept the match at a draw till half. The second half gave Atletico the opportunity to equalize and work towards winning. It is still an open match that can swing either side.
528  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gaming promotions to earn actual money on: January 03, 2024, 10:20:29 AM
Have you had any such experience where you managed to play in a smart way to actually be able to cash out money intended for promotion?
Sometimes I do wonder why it is very difficult to win with money intended for promotions. I have received promo bonuses on several occasions but end up losing them.

The only time I was able to meet the withdrawal condition from a bonus was when I joined a certain platform and they gave me 100% deposit bonus and I was able to meet the wagering condition and withdrew a decent amountut of winning. I actually was not too desperate in this particular one because my past experience with bonuses made me not put hope. Maybe this was why I won with the bonus.
529  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Crypto gambling and religious restrictions on: January 02, 2024, 08:48:34 PM
I try as much as I can not to delve into religious affairs considering that religion is a sensitive subject. My conviction stem from the fact that religion, which is supposed to be a personal and private affair, has been made so complex that it now divide humanity instead of uniting humanity.

Since we don't have religious scholars here, everyone should just chose what is convenient and align with their beliefs and do it privately. I really do not see the intersection of Bitcoin, a technology created to make life better, will be considered as bad from a religious perspective.  It is like a religious sect in my country that once said television was bad and that members should destroy their TVs and stop watching it. But when reality dawn on them after a while, the same religious sect is using television in their religious activities today.
530  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: January 02, 2024, 05:37:18 PM

Make your choices about how to allocate, and good luck if you are in the waiting camp.. Waiting may work out for you, and it may not.
One funny thing about the waiting camp is that they will always end up regretting and they are always saying how I wished I opted in. Even while they are saying this they are still waiting without taking action immediately. For me provided the money for investment is available I don't see the reason to keep waiting for any dip, funny enough the current price now might just happen to be the dip of the week or possibly the month.
I'm just learning about that new word today "waiting camp" indeed. They are not far from the fearful, the skeptics,  the perfectionists that want to enter at the perfect price if such thing as perfect price exist. Price of Bitcoin will continue to go up and down because that is how the market is designed to worm based on demand and supply.

Instead of spending so much time on the sideline waiting when the funds are available, why not simply adopting the DCA method by buying some while keeping part of the funds for future buy, in this case one is not only waiting for the supposed perfect price but already doing something now and maximising the opportunities the market offers now. The disadvantages of not being proactive in respect of Bitcoin accumulation is just too many.
531  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fees are high - a problem? Not for everyone! on: January 02, 2024, 05:11:29 PM
Maybe this is another in a series of topics about how the fees are too high these days, but considering that a lot of members are literally disappointed that they can't use Bitcoin the way it should be used, maybe we should clarify some things so that everyone would not continue to pretend that we live in a world where we should continue to expect that Bitcoin will become a global means of payment that will be used by just about everyone.
In my country, wẹ use local currency mostly and not using bitcoin or cryptocurrencies for spending. I have no option than to first convert my coins to fiat if I want to purchase something. I can say that many of us that were frustrated has been because higher amount of bitcoin is now required to move signature campaign earning and posting about it.

Let us hope something will be done about this mempool congestion.
In addition to volatility,  high fee is one of the things hindering Bitcoin penetration into the mainstream. People are increasingly becoming discourage to integrate Bitcoin payment into their businesses. Even when there seems to be a way around it, many people are not aware and those who are may not feel comfortable using them. For instance, not much people know how to use the Lightning Network, hence the reason it is not too popular.
532  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling and health concern on: January 02, 2024, 04:55:27 PM
It's New Year here in our country and I happened to bump into an old friend who narrated a story about how he almost suffered a heart attack after he won a big amount of money in a casino, this was several months ago, he's lucky that his son was around at that time so he got the right treatment at the right time.

He did not know that his hypertension had gotten worse since he can gamble even if he has this, he is taking medicines and doing relaxation but big winnings must have triggered this.

My question is :
Do you know the status of your health while gambling and what do you do if you happen to suffer a mild or hard stroke?
It is very important for anyone venturing into gambling to know the status of his health, unfortunately, many people do not pay attention to this. I find gambling as one of the most emotionally engaging activity so checking ones health and examining if one can handle the shock that sometimes come with gambling should be a good decision. For instance, hypertensive people are not supposed to gamble because no matter how well we try to surprise the pain or excitement that followers gambling losses and wins respectively, it will always manifest and might lead to crisis or those not physically and mentally fit.

This is why I make it a point to open my messenger and have my loved one that I can contact in case, whenever I'm playing alone.
If you get to this situation in your gambling, I will suggest you take a break because you might be doing it wrongly. This also agrees with the concerns you raise in this post.
533  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: January 02, 2024, 11:14:39 AM
I think Mohammed Salah has become a legend for the Reds and even though his teammates like Mane and Firminho have left before him, he still stays at Liverpool to continue the tradition. Even Jurgen Kloop will be very disadvantaged if he loses Mohammed Salah and he still needs time to find a successor to Mohammed Salah at Liverpool. An achievement we rarely see and huge appreciation for Mohammed Salah for reaching this level.
Salah is truly unpredictable and have remained relevant in his career. I was expecting the exit of Mane to weaken him somehow considering the role Mane played in the team. But Somehow, Salah always find a way to put the team in the spotlight, scoring important goals as Liverpool continue to make progress.

I was personally of the opinion that it was time for him to go for the oil money of the House of Saud, so his values will be high as he is still in his prime. But it seems he is not thinking in that direction yet. As long as he is getting the results at Anfield, I doubt Jurgen Kloop will be able to let him go. Liverpool's chances of winning the league is very high. They've got all it take to maintain their present lead even though the margin between then and Manchester City, their biggest rival, is not wide.

535  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you believe in gambling experts predictions? on: January 01, 2024, 04:47:42 PM
Expect predictions can be helpful sometimes but not sustainable because gambling is a game of probability so no one is 100% sure of what the outcome of the game will be. No doubt the so called experts spend so much time analysing the games and have accumulated a lot experience because most of them take gambling as full time job. However,  we must still take caution when following the predictions of anyone irrespective of what they promised will be the outcome of the event. The key thing is to ensure we stake what we can afford to lose.

I do use some websites that drop free predictions for comparison only, and from there I make my judgement on what to play. What I will not do is to pay money to any supposed expert for any prediction.
536  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: January 01, 2024, 11:22:32 AM
so that we do not have to sell any BTC during our investment period.. and so after 10 years of investing you can reassess
I started investing with a lot of thought before investing in Bitcoin. I also know that investing in bitcoins is not only profitable, it can also lead to losses. I said in my previous post that I could have borrowed from my family and invested in Bitcoin but I didn't, I wanted to invest in Bitcoin with my earned money.
Everything we do in life has risk associated with it and Bitcoin is no exception. Bitcoin is exposed to the general risk that is common to all digital businesses such as losses due to hacks and theft, risk as a result of mistakes in keeping the wallet information safe where it can be accessed and remembered, risk as a result of incidents such as natural disaster and fire outbreaks and so on. Apart from these general risks, most of the risks people link to Bitcoin are man made and avoidable. They are mostly caused by fear and greed which can easily be eliminated or greatly reduced by adopting the right approach and developing the right mindset.

When Bitcoin investment is treated like every other form of investment, most of the risk will naturally go away. For instance, when we start a farming business, we following the necessary process of planting and waiting till period of harvesting before we expect some return on investment. No one start farming business today and is expecting to make multiple of his investment the following month or two. The same can be said of fashion business, real estate and virtually every other business. Unfortunately, when it comes to investment in Bitcoin, people want the huge return within a very short time. They are not ready to give it time and nurture the portfolio to maturity and when the expected fast return is not forthcoming, the FOMO and most times sell even at loss and retire to amplifying the risk of Bitcoin.

I'm yet to see a single person who bought Bitcoin properly and held for at least 5 years that is regretting today. Therefore, I feel the risk associated with Bitcoin is not fairly presented and most times exaggerated.

538  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Death sentence trap as people choice hustle on: December 31, 2023, 08:32:45 PM
My people I say make we reason this matter for here even though is not of Bitcoin or crypto the kind of risk and choice of hustle citizens involved in the society without taking second thought, and value of their life all in the name of making ends meet. I begin to reason the way I feel anytime I here some sad news involving on this crime if is lack of information or not properly knowing the consequences that make them, or is just personal decision. Crime like  kpo fire, human trafficking, drug, organ harvesting, kidnapping etc but my major focus is on kpo fire because it happens always in our environment where death news comes in the country almost on daily basis, shey be is the money that make people never to give up, or hardship abi  this one now government or leaders not helping citizens or poor knowledge on the side effects. Or frostration, if is poor knowledge are their no educated in the area where it happen, if frostration are they the only one? Help chok mouth
The truth is that risky activities such as illegal refining of petroleum product that is killing many young people is clear case of failure of the governments. A lot of proposals have been made to convert those illegal refineries to modular refineries with the boys engaged as part of the refining process but it seems like our governments are not interested in anything that will end poverty in the country. They prefer to keep the youths unemployed so they can serve them as political thugs.

Nigeria is importing petroleum products when we have enough crude oil and manpower to process them for our domestic use and then export, but the politicians prefer to sell the raw crude oil and important finished products so they will steal money from the process.

I do not support illegal refineries neither do I support similar risky activities but I try to see reasons why those people do it... they are helpless and mostly the people from the areas where these crude oil are drilled yet nothing goes to them. They are living on top of wealth yet nothing goes to them as the evil Land Use Act gives everything below 6ft to the federal government. They are responding by taking laws into their hands and risking their lives as well.
539  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: December 31, 2023, 06:39:24 PM
Why would you limit it to 4 years?  Even if you increase your investment to $50 per month that would be right around $600 per year and $2,400 in 4 years.  It does not seem to be a place to be stopping.  And let's say you extent that to 20 years, and then you have right around $12k invested, so now you might start to be getting somewhere in the event that your disposable income does not go up.. but there can be ongoing adding of value and then at some point it might start to become more clear if you should be changing your strategy or at what point you might be getting to be out of accumulation phase and into either maintenance stage or liquidation stage.. and surely from my own thinking it does not seem clear to transition from accumulation stage to liquidation stage without first going through a period of maintenance stage... but hey, each of us have our ways of thinking about these kinds of bitcoin investment related matters.
Actually I earn about 180 dollars per month doing masonry work. I put aside a day's worth of my paycheck at the end of this work week to invest in Bitcoin and my wife puts about $25 of my monthly income into insurance. We have done this insurance for about 10 years. Where we have to deposit 25 dollars amount money every month.
Perhaps you have figured out your finances to know that setting aside a day pay to invest in Bitcoin will not put you under financial pressures. I say this because it is one thing to buy Bitcoin and another to hold because holding require that basic needs are met and plans also put in place for little reserve funds in case of unforeseen events that may arise. If you get distracted by the excitement of being a Bitcoin investor and holder without making adequate preparations, a little change of events may force you to sell some or all your Bitcoin and this will discourage or demoralize you a lot. Therefore, inasmuch as it feels good knowing that you are saving for the future via Bitcoin investment

JayJuanGee After reading the post you quoted me I explained to my wife that if we invest the money in the insurance we are collecting into bitcoins our bitcoins will increase. We will even get more money if we invest in bitcoins than if we put money in insurance.
I feel there is a little challenge with this. Insurance serve its purpose which mitigates risk to your physical assets; have you thought about how it will be when you stop paying for the insurance and accident happens? Don't you think if this happens you will be forced to sell the Bitcoin you accumulated? We are not praying for accidents but we must always prepare for things that are not within our control.

Insurance is very important that is why many companies have even been studying how to insure digital assets such as Bitcoin even though they have not made much progress. I was fortunate to read about some of those companies that tried venturing into insurance of digital assets and I feel it is still an ongoing project.

I think insurance qualify as basic needs that should be prioritized therefore the money should not be channeled into Bitcoin.
540  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My bitcoin journey has started again on: December 31, 2023, 04:16:56 PM
This might seems small amount to start with but if you do this consistently every week, by this time next year you should have about 0.183 Bitcoin which is around $5k using today's price. I will encourage you to keep it up because you are buying at the right time.
With the current high fees I think my signature campaign rewards will be stuck on my wallet and makes me wait for months or even years and I think this serves as an investment for me because I have no choice. 😅 Currently, I got .0022865BTC and weekly rewards keeps on coming, though just a small amount but still better than nothing. 😁
This might just be a case of a seemingly bad situation turning out to be a blessing. Without the high fees, maybe you would have spend your earned Bitcoin on other things. The situation you are in has turned to weekly DCA and the only challenge you will have is if there are other areas through which you generate income to meet your basic needs as well as set aside some funds in case of any emergency that will require money. With that in place you can comfortably hold your Bitcoin for long and hopefully the transaction fees will become better before you know it.

Likely I said before, the end of this whole things might result in you achieving a huge Bitcoin portfolio that you never imagine would be possible. I will still encourage you to keep it up, allow things progress as they would and see what the future holds regarding Bitcoin and your portfolio.
