The present phase is a massive shake out of a lot of short term speculation but the core potential is still huge if you're focused on this for the long term and have done the necessary research into trends and can choose what to invest in wisely

The market can only trend downward so far before a modest turn around begins and a short squeeze may occur if it dips again but for now the alternative market won't start seeing progressive growth until Bitcoin begins to gain more popularity

That is a very wise strategy, however when the market picks up again a lot of new capital from institutional investors will be seeking out the top 5 to 10 alternatives so you might find there's some value in adding those to your portfolio not just Bitcoin

At present the market isn't likely to make a huge turn around for some time as sentiment isn't very encouraging and liquidity for many alternatives is low but if you're investing at this stage you're likely to get a significant amount of value out of your portfolio when it does
