Some scenarios have our descendents mining landfill dumps for metals and other resources (hell, they do it right now in some less developed countries), so perhaps they'll be keeping a special look out for hard drives and other computer equipment.

Bitcoin mining, the term comes full circle!  Grin

Recovering data from second hand HDDs is good way to get secret informations anyway, the only trouble might be encrypted wallets with strong passphrase...

#2 I had a clean up of some files only computer cos was a lot of wasted space on my disk and was fairly sure of what the folders were, but could somehow the file that had the passphrase in it have been deleted and this is why it won't accept?
I have backup files of the wallet.dat still
And had backed it up before any coins went in and again after coins went in,

If you see right ballance, no.

Try writing the passphrase in notepad to be sure you have it right and copy+paste it
535  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: When will BTC be worth $100,000 per BTC??? on: November 25, 2013, 05:11:49 PM
That depends on how soon the dollar goes kaput. I'd say that will happen within the next two decades. It's important to note that Bitcoin will get its strongest increase in value thanks to the drop in value of the dollar.

The Dollar has been kaput since 1933 (and arguably it's inception). You mean when the ponzi will fall? This can take A LOT longer then you're forecasting. If it happens relatively fast it's quite probable that the invention of cryptocurrencies by S. Nakamoto is the trigger.

Nope, dollar is fine and can be used everywhere. Just dont hold any, always spend all dollars you got

Its too soon to say.
Try ask again if $500+ happen for next two months
540  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: $4000 to spend, what should I do? on: November 20, 2013, 05:03:55 PM
Just buy coins. BTC/USD rate will reach 5 digits in a few years.

Why would it go that high?

Since that it is getting more and more attention, and people start using it as a currency, wouldn't the $ to BTC rate drop to a reasonable amount? I can't imagine businesses having to sell things for 0.00000001 bitcoin etc would make it an ideal currency to trade in. IMO when BTC starts being more mainstream and more businesses start accepting it as payment, we are going to see prices fall and become steady at a reasonable level (like a normal currency).

The investment focus should be on alt-coins where the ratio to USD is low such as Peercoin and Litecoin. I feel they have potential to spike upwards and I am willing to put money in them for the ride.

1 BTC = 100.000.000 Satoshis

In future, prices will be in Satoshis instead

And good luck with Peercoin and Litecoin
