I got a payout yesterday.
522  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Which pool are best now ? on: October 18, 2013, 12:54:06 AM
any suggestion?

I like Slush Pool and BTCguild, but only you can figure out which pool is right for you.
523  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Just purchased 18 block erupters Buyers remorse... on: October 18, 2013, 12:13:04 AM
So is there anything out that can currently turn a profit? I hear people trashing the new  Bitfury miners also.... If there is no profit in mining bitcoin anymore why do people keep investing in these over priced asics blades and usb erupters ?  I sure is confused Sad

There is no profit in mining BTC. That being said there are several reasons for mining anyway, or at least two reasons.

One reason, it is like playing the lottery. You know that your chance of winning is almost nonexistent. Yet people buy those tickets anyway. People know that they won't hit it big mining, but there is still that one chance. BTC exchange rate could shoot through the roof. The pool you are in might get extremely lucky. etc...

Another reason, one i subscribe to is that mining is fun. Having a steady flow of BTCs coming in gives me a reason to hang in these forums, and watch what is going on.

A third reason may be that you believe in the BTC experiment and want to help make it succeed. With out BTC miners, there can be no transactions.

Another reason might be ego. the thought that everyone else may lose money but I won't because i'm smarter than everyone else and i know how to do this right.

There are a lot of reasons for mining and buying new equipment.

I'm not an illustrater, but i do remember reading somewhere that if you modify a certain percentage of an image, it isn't a rip off, it is fair use. Many illustraters start with an existing image and modify it to fit their purpose. I see nothing wrong with this. You people are crazy. Shocked
525  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [650 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees, Stratum, MergedMining, Private Servers on: October 17, 2013, 05:59:17 PM
As my relative return goes down due to increased hashrates, i find myself shrinking the size of my payout to maintain approximately the same frequency of payouts. My question is, is this going to cost me more in transaction fees when the time comes to spend my BTCs due to the need to consolidate multiple small payments? Huh

Geesh, this pool is on it's way to a Ph/s. Hope it can handle it.

Edited to correct order of magnitude. Tongue

Where is all this hashing power coming from? Someone giving BFLs for free or something?

BFLs? heh, more likely KNCs.
529  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: [ANN] Eloipool - FAST Python3 pool server software - GBT/stratum/dyntarget/proxy on: October 16, 2013, 06:48:38 PM
What would be the minimum hardware requirements for running this as a private pool? assume ubuntu 12.4 server as a host. Could a 10 year old pentium dual core 2.0Ghz run this? would extra RAM help?

Any look into building a water cooling system for this. As I understand there are no heat sinks on the board.

What is the spacing between the boards? Is there enough room for a custom water cooling solution?

almost certainly not. unless you have a case for it, the boards likely could not support the bulk size and weight plus hoses assosiated with watercooling, and the cost to implement water cooling for each 25-40GH board would be insane compared to the similar benefits attainable via heatsinks.

It would cost roughly $75-150 to put heatsinks on every board in a 400GH kit, and clock it up to >525
for water-cooling, you would see costs of around $200-500 assuming it even fit and was available, and you probably would only get 10-20% better results than the heatsinks.

ok, makes sense. Has anyone tried using just heatsinks then? Is there some off-the-shelf heatsinks that would work or is it better to go with something custom made. I can get custom made metal parts made pretty cheaply so that is an option if necessary.

I got this one on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/100x140x12-7mm-Aluminum-Heatsink-for-Electronic-Computer-Electric-equipment-H157-/181110341808?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:CA:3160

PS:  I will try it when I am going to get my V1 Hboards.
That is big, does it cover the whole board?

Notice on the pool site:

16.10.2013
In recent days we experienced some successful thefts of user's funds using compromised email accounts. We strongly encourage all users to change email passwords. There's no reason to think that pool security itself has been compromised.

Weird, how would slush have access to my email password in the first place?

It doesn't say that. It says that people who have passwords that have been compromised from somewhere else who also mine have had their accounts robbed.

Uncertainty is good. Nothing is certain in this world.
533  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Removing old coin uncertainty on: October 15, 2013, 06:56:33 PM
I think it would be better to leave Bitcoin just as it is and stop trying to come up with ways to steal from others.

None of the charts on the pool website seem to be working for me.  Huh

i'm running Windows Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP.

Should be fixed now.  There was a random issue with certain JS failing to load due to some optimizations I added to reduce overall page load time.  Recently added a more complete fix to the issue, so on a refresh you should have all the charts working again.

I decided that this was a problem with the browser on my netbook(ASUS eeePC) because it works fine on my other XP PC. So rather than fight with Explorer, I installed Firefox. Well.... It seems that for some reason everythime Firefox switches pages it it logged out. so the only page i can see is the Dash Board with Firefox.  Tongue I can't win for losin'.

Woohoo! quoting myself! heh, anyway, since Firefox worked worse here i went back to Microsoft's browser and suddenly it is working right? I guess it decided to tow the line when it realized that it could be replaced.  Roll Eyes

Where's https://ghash.io/ getting all of the excess TH/s from?

Either people who started mining on it or it growing by itself or both of these causes.

spiccioli

Isn't GHash exclusively mining with Bitfury gear?  They seem to be growing at an astronomical rate.

No it isn't. Apparently anyone who invests in the that three letter hosting service that begins with a C gets to point their miners at it.
537  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Client with User Defined Difficulty and Stratum Support? on: October 15, 2013, 12:30:07 AM
ummm, What about the ASICminer blades? aren't strictly getwork? Yeah, i know about the stratum proxy. I'm pretty sure that this is about fallback mining solo. If Bitcoin-QT could keep up it would be a help.

Can't reach the webpage for some reason.

Yeah, what he said. Are we under attack again? Do we need to man the guns? Are the shields up?
539  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: October 14, 2013, 08:38:49 PM
wonder what will happen with nov offerings. i dont think anything that's been out so far will produce roi

I agree.  And if hardware prices are drastically lowered, that will just cause more irrational buyers piling on.

This is not going to be pretty.

If by ROI, you mean Return Over Investment, I doubt that that will ever be the case again.
