If we're going to do bits we might as well go all the way down to satoshis.  I've found it easiest to just think in them.

Fun poll, thanks!

true, but you cannot divide a satoshi. common is to have a unit and 2 decimal digits. base unit will be 100 sats where a name should found for it.

1 'base unit' = 100 sats

a cup of coffee: 10,000 'base units' (10,000 x $.00045)

at the moment the 2 decimal digits are irrelevant.

"Hi, I want to buy a cup of coffee, please." - "Sure, this will cost you 10,000 bits." - "Fine, I'll take it."

and bits are very cheap at the moment! but this decision will have an impact on serveral things in the whole Bitcoin community. (exchanges, micro transactions, etc.)

but it is necesarry now, IMHO! we are not far away from release 1.0 of Bitcoin (maybe 2015?)

5216  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why haven't we sufficiently decoupled from the Chinese market? on: May 04, 2014, 11:23:08 AM
Because when the price on Huobi goes significantly below Bitstamp, you can withdraw your bitcoins from Houbi, send them to Bitstamp and sell there for a higher price. You can now send money to Huobi, repeat it again and make money.

So long as you can withdraw bitcoins from Chinese exchanges, arbitrage will be possible if the price is lower.

I'm able to follow this until the point I have to choose a bank account on Huobi to transfer money to it. or are there other possibilities to put fiat money on Huobi?

how is the development of "libbitcoin" coordinated with the development of "Bitcoin Core"? I mean in this way like "bitcoinj" is coordinated with "Bitcoin Core".

What about this:

1 Bitcoin = 1 MegaBit

e-0 MegaBit
e-1
e-2
e-3 KiloBit
e-4
e-5
e-6 Bit
e-7
e-8 Satoshi
e-9 MilliBit (not currently dividable but maybe in the future)

People are much more used to the large prefixes than to the small ones.

fixed that for ya Wink

point is to have a name for a unit where we have maximal 2 decimal digits. this is neccessary for a lot of software which are in use already.

1.00 --> 1 bit = 100 sats and that is it. Bitcoin is the protocol and one bit is the base unit which you can divide in 100 satoshis.

EDIT: one neccessary thing would be on the other hand the possibility to transfer at least 1 bit with one transaction which would have impact on the blocksize. transfer roughly at least 0.0005$ with one tx. this should be possible. if I be a Newbie I will test the whole thing: go to a Bitcoin faucet where I will get one bit and then I will try to transfer it to a friend on the mars.  Wink off chain txs are insecure. proof is inputs.io. too centralized.
