5221  Other / Meta / Re: creating a new section: Mini PC on: September 20, 2019, 02:31:06 PM
~

Didn't apple make something even smaller at one point? I seem to remember doing some work somewhere where they used a computer (probably the size of a raspberry pi but a cube-like shape) that was used for archiving data.

Maybe the miniPC section is a bit specialised but a section to running full nodes makes a bit of sense (although maye the alternative clients sections could be split up into "thic" and "thin" software).

There are a few people on here that were enquiring about the new raspberry pi 4 too (I think at least 2 threads opened up from that discussion - I might try using an old raspberry pi myself once I have the sync out of the way since it's limited to a maximum of 5W even with a hard drive installed).
5222  Other / Meta / Re: "Total time logged in" bug and accounts with long time logged in on: September 19, 2019, 09:19:28 AM
These users are most likely bots. There's a limit to refresh of 1 second which becomes a bit of a pain if you're trying to archive a lot of stuff from a site. I think it took vod about 3 months to rebuild his database of the 2 million profiles on here for example.
I tested this. I refreshed a page manually about 10 times in a minute. In this case "total time logged in" increases 1 minute per minute. I guess they are using several devices. I don't think they are only trying to increase that useless time. They have other purposes which personally I am not aware of.

I meant they'll be using several devices to keep stuff up to date or one device with multiple IPs. I assume if you use 2 browsers on the same IP it'll still increase (not that that's particularly helpful on its own) but a bot configured to get a new vpn identity every 10ms and pull data could be a tactic employed by a bot.
5223  Other / Meta / Re: "Total time logged in" bug and accounts with long time logged in on: September 18, 2019, 11:44:59 PM
I have already started a thread about it, but no actions were taken. See here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5179823.0

This thread answers your question then?

They could also be aiding the running of a few of the phishing sites too with upto date information...
Is there any browser which keeps refreshing the pages for every few seconds when no actions taken on that page automatically?

Therell definitely be an add on for it if it's not in the settings on most browsers since it's a way to get past remote attackers editing the page source you're viewing (or it makes it a lot harder for them to do).
5224  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: September 17, 2019, 12:33:54 PM
You'll have to wait 48-72 hours for a response. They've moved hundreds of btc through the mixer before now so you'll get your 1.5btc as soon as they respond...
5225  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Anywhere I can find the bitmex calculator on mobile? on: September 17, 2019, 12:16:37 PM
Hmm thanks it works on chrome... It'll solve the issue for now at least - I was trying to use Firefox where it wouldn't work...
5226  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: September 16, 2019, 10:03:33 PM

at Step2 - you don’t see the chip, at the post office there is also no net to siphop. What is another communication medium? very urgently needed coins

The only way to contact them is by their email on the ChipMixer site.

What error are you getting is it saying 0.000 at ste 2? Can you check the transaction has definitely confirmed?
5227  Other / Meta / Re: The end of an era for me: Leaving Signature Campaign on: September 16, 2019, 03:08:12 PM
By the way, this might be better in Reputation or some other section.

No please leave it here. All we ever seem to have in meta is people constantly feeding trolls at the moment it'll be nice to have something different for once (at least those are the ones that seem to get continuously bumped)...

I guess he left to be a bit more free, personally I'd give it a month and then you'd probably rejoin. I've had points where campaigns have closed that I'm in and I've just left for about a month for a break. It's quite nice every so often, I still stayed here and kept posting but it's just a bit different from being in a sig...

5228  Economy / Trading Discussion / Anywhere I can find the bitmex calculator on mobile? on: September 16, 2019, 12:25:35 PM
I'm trying to calculate profits and potentials on bitmex but can't access the calculator on their site from my phone, does anyone know of a good place to access a calculator like thst with all the functions and imilar estimations? It'll take quite a bit longer to work it out on mmy phone with a calculator and what's the point in programming one if there's already one avaliable.
5229  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Electrum Wallet / Server for a Litecoin clone on: September 16, 2019, 11:21:34 AM
Search electrum Ltc?

electrumltc.org is probably the wallet you're after. (I havent personally used it though).

You could run litecoin core, it's blockchain only stands at about 12gb.
5230  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: September 15, 2019, 11:39:52 AM
an upgrade to nested adresses would suffice too. I don't see why not. They're widely, if not everywhere, accepted.

Nested segwit would be a good upgrade and the only incompatibility issues will be with people running nodes that don't use multisig (which I think was before 2014).

I don't think it should be switched to bech32 based on how many people claimed to have "accidentally" hit the "bet" button when there used to be gambling on this site...
5231  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My simulations for testing Martingale strategy on: September 14, 2019, 12:53:38 AM

Because only with Dogecoin, he can place a huge amount of coin. I am interested in his simulations, and perhaps, I will try it later, although I always know that the martingale strategy will not work for me in a short time or a long time. But still, it's worth to try for me so I can have another experience using the method. I agree with @STT says that he needs to take any profit he made before and stop it for a while and play again after one hour. Sometimes that is work for me to get another winning Grin

You're not going to find a way to win with martingale long term. You can make your own graph and try to predict the profits but ops graph shows a reoccurring trend of the loss of all bankroll so make sure you understand that you could lose everything ln your first series of bets.

5232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Again a topic about wallet sync on: September 14, 2019, 12:42:20 AM

Still, I am surprised that there is no other way to sync faster. I was sure this is possible with the help of bootstrap files but maybe not for Bitcoin Core client?

I think they optimised it too so it's faster to do it by core of its at minimum the same. Unless you buy hardware with the blockchain on it (and verify a few merkle roots, hashes and tx) then it'll still take the same amount of time.
5233  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase UK Agrees to Return 60 BTC to Victim of Email Phishing Attack on: September 13, 2019, 01:42:55 PM
~

As a bit of an insight to the removal of the 20k, coinbase are able to manually change how much you're able to withdraw and everyone in the UK has a withdrawal limit of £50k because you have to send things via Sepa (I think) which requires £10k or more to be withdrawn at once.

The hacker could make more than one account or keep sending the funds within coinbase too.
5234  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: September 11, 2019, 05:17:47 PM

I don't know that this would prove anything.  Regardless of the encryption method you suggest, we must still trust that ChipMixer's code running on their server is the same code made available for public audit.  Without being granted access rights to their server (which I can't imagine happening) we're left taking their word for it.  Like we're taking them at their word that they are not logging.

Yeah as I interpret it, this would be more of a release of the frontend (mostly) and might not go very far towards proving openness as you'd still have to trust ChipMixer's daemon thats running on the same and the different server.

A mixer shouldn't be the only place you go to mix your coins in order to make it more private, sending funds to certain exchanges, mining rentals and gambling sites are often good additions after and between mixing. There are probanly better ideas others have come up with that I've missed, large companies holding bitcoin on a large scale aren't going to care too much if a few bitcoin go in and out every so often - some exchanges are better than others will be so remember to research if you want a good strategy.

On the Ddos issue if ChipMixer were to put into development a system where you download something and get a public private key pair you can then use to connect to the site over cloudflaee so it's still encrypted however there are a few main issues with this: most people mixing don't want people to know who they're connected to and that they're using a mixer, why should you download something from an anonymous source (even if you trust them it's still a bit risky) most devs in bitcoin for example have compromised their identity this can't be done here... If a decentralised anti ddos system gets put into place then these problems can be vastly mitigated but even bitcointalk goes down when it's heavily ddosed and behind a cloudflare package so it might not actually do much...
5235  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: September 09, 2019, 05:09:57 PM

i dont get it why they need 4 days+ to answer an email (as i read here in the thread) .. [/b]

They have a small team to improve your privacy and their security. It may only be one or a few people that know each other well. If you outsource to someone they might steal your coins or compromise your clients' privacy. Also, the longer you wait the more private it becomes and its normally suggested to wait anywhere from 48 hours to a month to send a transaction so it can't be traced back to its original source (or it is at least much more difficult)...
5236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Wallet error - help me troubleshoot? on: September 09, 2019, 01:02:21 PM
If the drives have been recently checked for health, you can try testing the connection to the network for both your machine and the NAS drive (maybe switch the cables around).

Have you tried starting the client since, what does it do now or has the error been happening repeatedly?

You could try copying something to the NAS and back and see if it comes back in correct order (a file pretty big) just to check the NAS can allot stuff properly.
5237  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.3.8 on a 32-bit Computer on: September 09, 2019, 09:04:44 AM
Thank you all for your guidance.

Yes, it was just an access problem. Using
Code:
sudo python3 ~/Electrum-3.3.5/run_electrum
it works.

I have also
Code:
sudo chmod 770 /home/richard/.electrum/daemon
This does not appear to change anything. I still need
Code:
sudo python3 ~/Electrum-3.3.5/run_electrum
to get Electrum to run.

What's the error now with this? It's likely the thing stopping it from opening from the start menu.

They're both using the same kernal behind so moving something from the cli to gui won't help.
5238  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Need help to explain this trx on: September 08, 2019, 01:41:20 PM
The first is consolidated input like cryptex said. Can you post the txid of the second as it could be omni (discussed here) : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5179450.msg52287240#msg52287240
5239  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Again a topic about wallet sync on: September 08, 2019, 11:55:24 AM
There are a lot of alternatives to running a full node and waiting this long to download. I think the favourite for desktop at the moment is electrum (from electrum.org/#download).

You can wait for core to finish syncing though if you want to it's much faster than it used to be when I started. You might want to tell us your system specs too a standard laptop should handle it in a few days, you could try upgrading your hardware if you want to run a full node like putting an ssd in your hard drive slot. You could try looking at other ways to improve performance from the confignfile if you have spare ram.
5240  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: The Jet Cash coffee lounge thread. on: September 08, 2019, 10:43:13 AM
I dunno some vaccines like the MMR worked to help control strains of the disease, like cow pox did a while ago.

Chicken pox is a fairly normal disease to catch too (especially if he hasn't had it before) it's not like McDonald's isn't going to see its fair share of kids with the illness (although it might go some way to stating the hygiene of the restaurant)...

(the fud from the MMR was brought up by a guy selling a rival vaccine that just did measles and his scientific research was about as good as any TV show - 6-10 "random" (specially selected) people to prove something.
