5261  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Hardware wallets on USB pendrive on: May 04, 2019, 02:46:23 PM

Another curiosity that is driving me crazy is the secure element that is put into the specialized chips of hardware wallets. What makes the secure element so secure and makes it stand exceptional from others?

We are not going to assist you in compromising a wallet, sorry.
LOL  Grin ,why would I want to compromise a trezor ?
Obviously I am not asking for component used to build the secure element. I am just asking for high level context. For example: the secure element may use a cryptographic hash function that makes the chip secure and makes the hardware wallet sign the transactions with greater safety.

P.S: I am not such a genius that I can compromise wallets by writing scripts/codes. I just tend to grasp knowledge about anything that grabs my interest and bitcoin is one of them.

Maybe you are on a powertrip.
I don't even know what powertrip means  Undecided  Roll Eyes

I must say guys that was an intriguing debate. No offence to anybody here but in my mind @bob123 has already won while @naska21 gave him a strong debate.
Hardware wallets are better than USB flash drives as an infected machine can lead to loss of coins. While it is hardly possible to be the victim of an infected machine in today's computer with GPT/UEFI, there will always remain a "minor" risk that can lead to loss of coins. This "Secure element" as you guys say, gives the edge to the hardware wallet which makes it more secure than a USB drive with air-gapped machine.

Anyway, if a user can't really afford the hardware wallet(while it is not relatively costly) he can definitely opt to use a USB drive in a "Truly air-gapped machine" as an alternative.

I don't want to act like I am backing argue bot 'bob' - who has probably been arguing on the net for over 20 years now - but I can give you some personal knowledge from my experience. I do not know how similar a linux box [and you say you are using linux on a stick?] is to the newer tablets and phones on android, but despite tablets, and phones, saying the internet not being on according to the device, there was some sort of connection on the compromised device.
Didn't really got your point. What are you trying to say ?
5263  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stop chasing the "next" bitcoin on: May 04, 2019, 01:44:32 PM
most of them aren't really at fault. they are just poor newcomers who entered a big market and were suddenly bombarded by a huge wave of advertisement which were promising them riches beyond their wildest dreams so they ended up buying a ton of useless tokens which have been continuously losing value
I Don't really agree with the "Most" part. Although I believe there are "Some/Few" people who got into the sinking ship, most of the people just thought it would be beneficial to invest in the shitload of tokens.
All those shitcoins in Yobit which get pumped daily shows us that there are huge number of people who still take part in the pump and dump and eventually lose their coins.
It's just the greed that drives them to their catastrophic fate. This is the sole reason why bitcoin should be the major part of your investments. I would consider investing 70% of my investment into bitcoin while the rest 30%  into top major altcoins.
5264  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Htc Reveals Plans For New Gen Blockchain Smartphone In 2019 on: May 04, 2019, 01:27:12 PM
People aren't much excited about this news because HTC phones are quite expensive. They provide the same specs which a mid range phone provides at a much lower cost.
I had created a thread earlier about it which might be of your interest. Just in case you wanna get more opinions, visit the below thread.

5265  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is this GotSatoshi.com? New drama unfolding? on: May 04, 2019, 01:23:38 PM
New drama unfolding ?
Definitely no. It's just a random person spreading FUD in the market. We don't know his motive yet but don't you think it's fishy ?
Why would Satoshi ask for people's email addresses to reveal his identity? He could do that just by making a post here on the forum.
I think it's just a random person spreading FUD, getting emails of users, getting clicks on his website for obvious reasons and will probably misuse the data collected.
5266  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alts worth staking on: May 03, 2019, 05:57:40 PM
This is the biggest disadvantage of PoS. If you expect a bigger profit then the capital amount you invest should be way bigger.
If invest in popular coins you will get very less profit and if you invest in less popular coins then there will always be a risk of losing money.
5267  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are investors realizing that IEO is a silent scam? on: May 03, 2019, 05:25:24 PM
It has been going three days Bittrex has launched IEO for "ocean" coin. But seems still now 17% remain of IEO token. Last IEO was closed within few seconds. Wondering why still not sold out current IEO on Bittrex. Are investors realizing that IEO is silent scam? Because on last IEO on Bittrex lots of investor's got REKT. Perhaps that's why investors worried about their funds.

What do you think? There is any other reason?
This kind of behavior is normal because IEOs are not but ICOs with a guarantee that it will be listed on that particular exchange.
When the ICO period was at peak, most of the ICOs were raising enough funds and reaching their goals but there were also some ICOs that didn't make up to their goals.
Similarly, there might be IEOs which raised funds in seconds but there will also be IEOs which might not be able to reach their goals.

I am just curious to know his last words,  if he had said anything to the community.

His last post on the forum was an announcement of a new Bitcoin version release. It didnt really have the feel of a parting post; it is suspected that he left because Andresen was scheduled to speak with (feel free somebody to correct me if I'm wrong here but I believe it was) the CIA. That and the whole association with WikiLeaks got him paranoid that the government would soon be after his identity.

I just think its kind of amazing that he somehow knew bitcoin was not only going to succeed but be revolutionary. I doubt many people beside himself at the time had confidence that it would go on to have a multi-billion dollar market cap and be as transformative to finance as it currently is.

The timing of his disappearance from the public eye was more or less perfect, and its doubtful he will ever return. Why risk screwing up a good thing you got going?
It's good to know that he left the community improving bitcoin thus releasing a better version of bitcoin. He was a man of instincts which is why he left the community without making any noise.
Unfortunately, people are using bitcoin not because they like the technology but because it is making them money through it's volatility.
Sad to see that people are using bitcoin for not it was meant to be but just because it's making them money.

Is that how bitcoin was started being used for illegal activities ?

5269  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buy apple iphone with the Bitcoin ? on: May 02, 2019, 05:32:39 PM
Many have already put links and sources to buy apple products online with merchants that accept bitcoins as a payment method.
You can also choose an alternate method that you can ask any person who accepts bitcoin on the marketplace to buy apple iphone or whatever you want.
You will easily get people to buy you the phone but beware of scammers.
5270  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto - Can We Find Him ? on: May 02, 2019, 05:23:42 PM
Well you can't find Satoshi Nakamoto but you can surely find dozens of such threads if you use the search box provided in the right top corner of your screen.
5271  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Is NEXO currently the best lending platform? How about future? on: May 02, 2019, 04:57:58 PM
Crypto industry is blooming regardless of how the price crash and this is a positive sign imo

The first crypto lending platform i actually know is SALT, but i am not sure what happen to them as i seen people said they fail (Their business still operates currently)[/quote]
I am not against lending platforms but the fact is that most of the lending platforms I have seen till date have turned out to be scam at some point of time.
The great example is bitconnect. I had invested in it too but all of it went to drain.

Quote
Then we have ETHlend (Smart contract lending)
Didn't it turn out to be a scam too ?

Quote
Then follow by NEXO which is currently the most fmaous platform for crypto lending, crypto cash instant line and etc (Amazing product)
Do you guys think NEXO can be the pioneer of lending in the crypto industry?
I thought something similar of bitconnect but you know where it stands today. NEXO might end up being the same thing as well.

Quote
They even have a 6.5% Interest stablecoin lending program which is RISK free
Dude, Crypto is "Never" risk free.
5272  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: BNB accused of money laundering for terrorist and market manipulation-->DUMP? on: May 02, 2019, 04:51:31 PM
We cant simply trust any website on the internet. I can myself post an article on a random site and announce that this is the truth but in reality it isn't.
Binance has implemented the KYC norm long ago and it has also triggered partnership with various firms in order to increase it's security and eliminate money laundering.
Last month Binance had made a partnership with blockchain analytics firm CipherTrace and today I got to know that it has also partnered with Elliptic to improve regulatory compliances.
With all these stuff Binance is doing, accusing it for money laundering might be a big deal.

So according to the data you provided, the last message/communication he did with the online world was

Is this right? Was he last active on March 7, 2014 at 1:17 after which he vanished?

No, his email attached to his ning forum account had been hacked prior to this message and it is believed the hacker wrote it. The last communication from Satoshi was likely an email to Gavin Andresen in 2011.
Well in that case, do we know any info about what Satoshi would have said to Gavin before his identity went into oblivion.
I am just curious to know his last words,  if he had said anything to the community.

5275  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How popular cryptocurrency wallets completely expose your private keys on: May 01, 2019, 02:41:40 PM
Thanks for sharing this info. I never knew that these wallets store the data (private key) in the memory and that such data can be retrieved from the memory so easily.
It's obvious that anybody who has access to the computer would then be easily able to hack in to the wallets. I am glad I don't use any wallets on my PC.
If the vulnerability is so severe how come there is no solution to it.
5276  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Please be careful with traders who.... on: May 01, 2019, 02:23:08 PM
"Please be careful with traders who run private groups, do phone consultations, and sell courses.

Most successful traders are too busy trading, they don't have time to teach.

It would be a distraction."

Saw this tweet just now.

Worth to share to those trading newbies who wants to rely on paid advisors.

Will not go deeper. Hope you got the picture.

(P.S. Credits goes to @BTC_M****. Decided not share the source link as I don't want to promote his Twitter account as owner's other tweets might influence newbies perspectives. But it's quiet easy to search.)
This is definitely true because there is no logic if a trader who is successful is actually not trading but teaching others how to trade.
If the trader is so successful why would he reveal his stats and strategies because if he would do so that would just hinder the market movements and all his strategies would be of no use.
So basically there is no logic if a successful trader is teaching rather than trading himself. It's definitely a scam.
5277  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: what to do, if an exchange disables trading for certain currency? on: May 01, 2019, 02:10:39 PM
40+ replies and everybody is repeating the same thing. Guys, OP got the answer in the first few replies.
Repeating the same thing over and over again just don't make any sense.
5278  Local / Press & News from India / Re: Tech Mahindra using Samsung's Nexledger Blockchain on: May 01, 2019, 08:08:47 AM
i am not sure how Company  using bitcoin because as per RBI all bank suppose to stop using bitcoin payment and trading then how this tech gain are using crpto
Nobody here said that any of these companies are making transactions in bitcoin. I guess you have misunderstood something or have got the wrong information.
These companies are just using the blockchain technology for the required usecases.

I simply have a question because I doubt about the positiveness of news. Indian TCS has just announced the first successful blockchain cross-border securities settlement between 2 depositories that is carried out by India Tata Consultancy Services. I read it on the prestige news source Crypto Insight but the importance here I would like to hear from Indian.  Is it right ? https://thecryptosight.com/tata-consultancy-services-carried-out-worlds-first-blockchain-cross-border-securities-settlement/
1. I don't know if it's true or not because we can't simply trust any article published on any random site.
2. The article clearly mentions that it is a trial run which means it is just a test and the main transaction is yet to be done.
5279  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 2nd gen HTC smartphone powered by Blockchain on: May 01, 2019, 07:55:43 AM
So HTC following Samsung to enter to the cryptocurrency. But unfortunately, I don't use Exodus, and I am not familiar with that wallet. I still prefer mycelium and Electrum for saving bitcoin, and I use Jaxx for keeping my altcoin and tokens.
But that will be great for the crypto user because they can use HTC to save bitcoin. I wonder how much the price of the HTC mobile phone and if the price is almost the same as Samsung, then I don't think I want to buy that phone.
Since when did HTC started following Samsung ?
For I know, HTC is first in this industry to implement the blockchain technology on to their smartphones.
I have heard the rumors of Samsung implementing blockchain technology in their smarphones too but I guess HTC was the first to implement it.
The first gen of HTC blockchain smartphones had Exodus wallet pre-installed in it.

can someone explain to me how this smartphone is powered by blockchain?
all i see is the same old smartphone which is no different from any other smartphone that has only installed a bunch of applications that are related to cryptocurrencies! that doesn't make it "powered by" blockchain! it is like me saying my PC is powered by bitcoin just because i run bitcoin-core full node on it!
It is exactly what you have said. I guess the people at HTC would have a tough time explaining this. I do agree that it is the same smartphone with just built-in applications but they have now said that the new smartphone will have blockchain based apps for browser, messaging, social media apps etc.. I wonder how that is gonna work. Are there any blockchain based browsers, messaging apps already available in the market ?
Are there any such Dapps or something that I don't know of ?
5280  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Future of Trading, losers and winners. on: April 29, 2019, 05:08:22 PM
What will happen if everyone in trading will know all how it works? Like if everyone will become a well-knowledge trader, for example, we will know all how to use different indicators, supports, and resistance, etc. ?  Undecided

Will some people still lose their trade? Who will become loser on every trade if that will happen? It will still profitable to trade?

Nobody is perfect and everybody has their own speciality. So, if everybody knows how to trade well, there will still be people who are better than you and who are not.
So the dumb ones will still make mistakes and that will earn you profits. Obviously you will make mistakes too which will the better ones profit.
That's how the cycle goes on.
