5281  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Offcl. Bitcoinica stmt: "No reserve" prbm will be fixed in a couple of hours on: January 18, 2012, 01:32:56 AM
My God I got so utterly wiped out by that crash and have a severe negative balance now! I had a few very pessimistic low buy limit orders and the crash made things a whole lot worse!

Was fun for a while but I lost so much more than I had gained in the last couple of months! A major warning on margin trading with such a crazy market!

The forced liquidation is a nightmare! I would have gained big time as it's already recovered now, well above my target price! But instead I got forced into a loss of several thousand percent! I can't even mention the amount that was worth! I feel like I paid for their liquidity problems personally! Anyone else?
I don't see how it is anyone's fault but your own?  You took extreme risks, and lost.

I didn't blame anyone, I know what risk means. But they could do with some responsive circuit breakers no ?
I'm not sure what you mean... They can't stop trading in it's tracks - Bitcoinica only follows what the current market price is.  And if that market price changes, there's not much to be done.

Play with fire, and you'll eventually get burned.

Hopefully everyone learned a good lesson about trading more than you can afford to lose on margin!
5284  Economy / Speculation / Re: is everybody ok? on: January 17, 2012, 11:27:44 PM
Lost 5 BTC.  Oops.
5285  Economy / Speculation / Re: FUCK THIS on: January 17, 2012, 11:27:00 PM
Well, you can bet on me having some bids a dollar or two below the "averaging" price from here on out, solely due to this action we just saw!  I don't want to miss out on those kind of market movements again!

And if more people join in the same line of thinking as me, then we'll self-stabilize against these sorts of price swings in the future.
5286  Economy / Speculation / Re: RALLY! on: January 17, 2012, 10:44:40 PM
And... just lost the 5 BTC I was playing with on margin!  Sad
5287  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - The most advanced Bitcoin Client in existence! on: January 17, 2012, 10:43:00 PM
I'll test it as soon as there's a Windows binary available.  But after spending many hours building the standard Bitcoin client in Windows, I took a vow to never build anything in Windows again.  It's just not my kind of gig.
5288  Economy / Speculation / Re: RALLY! on: January 17, 2012, 10:17:13 PM
All I see is more downward movement...   Huh
5289  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: btccharts.com on: January 17, 2012, 09:44:21 PM
Actually, a chart you can draw on, then save a screenshot of, all without pressing PrtScn, would be pretty awesome.
5290  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: POLL: How do you found out about bitcoin? on: January 17, 2012, 09:43:03 PM
Overclock.net, April 27th of last year.  Someone made a news post, caught my eye, and so I read more about it.  A few days later, the thread was permanently locked and all further discussions of Bitcoin were banned from the forum due to it being "potentially illegal".   Roll Eyes
5291  Other / Off-topic / Re: anyone playing rise of immortals? (dota-like, free to play) on: January 17, 2012, 04:34:15 PM
League of Legends, not Rise of Immortals.

Also, haven't tried DOTA 2 yet.  But LoL is better than RoI IMO.  Or maybe it's just that I'm used to LoL... they are extremely similar, like one ripped off the other.
5292  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Support bitcoin.org SOPA blackout on 18 Jan on: January 17, 2012, 01:30:42 AM
I say no.   I'm sure 99% of the people here already support the anti-SOPA movement and know what it is about.

It's the non-geek websites that need to go blackout.  Google, Facebook, and the like.  That will inform the uninformed.  Blacking out a page like bitcointalk does nothing, since we all already know about it.

did you mis-read the OP? bitcoin.org != bitcointalk
I did indeed misread.  Tongue

Still, I stand by my position.  MOST of the people visiting bitcoin.org will be either well-informed internet users who already know about SOPA, or people looking for information on Bitcoin.  Do we really want to turn people away from information about Bitcoin?  SOPA is important, but the big-name sites blacking out is what is going to make a difference, not places like bitcoin.org.

5294  Bitcoin / Project Development / [SALES BOUNTY] ThinkGeek.com Email Campaign on: January 16, 2012, 09:58:54 PM
ThinkGeek has a "Bug Us" page, so let's bug 'em.   Wink

http://www.thinkgeek.com/bug-us/

This is a Sales Bounty, meaning if ThinkGeek begins accepting Bitcoins as a payment method, your bounty would be your promise to spend $XXX worth of Bitcoins on their products.

This is also an email campaign, meaning that EVERYONE who supports Bitcoins should email one of the email addresses at that website link, even if you don't want to promise a specific bounty.  It sounds like they have an email address set up specifically for suggestions, but it wouldn't hurt if a few emails popped through the other channels as well (more general company awareness), so I'll leave it up to you which email address you want to bug.

If you email, and are willing to promise to spend a certain amount, please mention that in your email!  Note it in terms of USD, rather than Bitcoin, since they'll be more familiar with the value of USD.  If you're willing to spend 10 BTC, then just say you'll spend $70 worth of Bitcoins at their store.  Don't lie, that just makes us look bad.  If you pledge to spend a certain amount, then count on spending that amount.  Don't back out of a promise.

DO NOT post your email contents here on this forum!  I don't want everyone to be sending canned emails or copying from each other.  We want this to be as genuine a request as possible, so each person should come up with their own written request for acceptance of Bitcoin as payment.

I don't know what ThinkGeek's sales average on a daily basis, but I would imagine it's up in the tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, at least.  We need to make it known that them accepting Bitcoins will make a difference in their bottom line.  So we need some heavy hitters to step up to the plate and pledge to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars, if possible.

With that said, I'm going to go ahead and email them and pledge to spend at least $20 worth of Bitcoins if they start accepting them.  It's not much, but I'm poor, what can I say?  Smiley
5295  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I talked with Amazon Live Support today... on: January 16, 2012, 09:42:34 PM
Also, I talked to Amazon support as well, just for fun.

Me:Will you accept Bitcoins as a form of payment in the near future?

Archana:Hello, Justin.
This is Archana from Amazon.

Me:Hello

Archana:We don't accept Bitcoins as a payment method on our website at this point.

Me:I heard a rumor that Amazon was considering adding it as a payment option in the future. Is it something that is at least being considered?

Archana:We'll work on it, Justin.
Is there anything else I can do for you?

Me:Amazon would have my full support if they decided to go that route. That was all, thank you.

Archana:Thanks for your feedback. I'll be sure to pass it along to the right people.
5296  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I talked with Amazon Live Support today... on: January 16, 2012, 09:41:50 PM
Regarding Think Geek - what if we did a massive email campaign?  Each of us emails them our own written email (not a canned email like some petitions go), requesting that they accept Bitcoin, and also making a promise to spend at least $X equivalent of Bitcoins on their products if they do start accepting it?

Good idea... perhaps start a bounty thread?
Why a bounty thread?  Who gets the bounty, and what for?

Just put up a thread with your idea and start collecting purchase pledges... I guess not exactly a bounty, but we will give them a bounty of sales Wink.
Ah, got it.  Ok, I'll do that.  Can't hurt, right?  Smiley

5298  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in tv show -The Good Wife - Episode 3.13 - Finding Mr. Bitcoin on: January 16, 2012, 08:50:01 PM
Apparently the US is hated. It is no longer available.

Watching in another window right now from that link, try again.    I am not sure if I am surprised or not that a full tv show, not just clips, is put online on their own website after the show airs that quickly, but maybe that is a commonplace now in days?   Smart of CBS to do it on their own site rather than cough up money to Hulu I guess.
All the major networks do (except Discovery, and I rue them for it).  I often watch shows I am interested in on the web now, instead of on their timetable.  I think the last major network show that I didn't find hosted at their own website was American Idol, and for good reason (no voting allowed after 2 hours after the show ends, IIRC).  Not that I watch American Idol or anything.... *ahem*
5299  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in tv show -The Good Wife - Episode 3.13 - Finding Mr. Bitcoin on: January 16, 2012, 08:45:16 PM
I missed it.  Sad  Anywhere to watch it online that doesn't involve breaking the law?

If CBS doesn't hate you/your country.

Apparently the US is hated. It is no longer available.
I just tried it, and it started just fine for me...

As long as we don't dip below $5.26, I'm good.  Wink
