5321  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Raw Transaction Tax on: April 02, 2013, 12:39:41 PM
Okay - refer to this: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transaction_fees

Just create it the raw tx (with no fee) but don't send it and check its size (and the age of UTXOs if necessary) - remember that paying the fee is simply reducing one of the outputs (generally the change one) by the appropriate amount.
5322  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Raw Transaction Tax on: April 02, 2013, 12:17:29 PM
Tax?

Are you trying to work out a tx *fee* amount?
5323  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ltc - proof of work found, but no coins on: April 02, 2013, 12:06:34 PM
How do I find out if that's exactly the case, and my mind can rest in peace.

That was why the question about the block height - by looking up the block # the same as yours was supposed to be you should find the answer (bear in mind timestamps are not exact indication as they depend upon each miner's computer clock).
5324  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ltc - proof of work found, but no coins on: April 02, 2013, 11:58:27 AM
Quite possibly yours was not the only correct answer (i.e. two solutions appeared at around the same time).

This happens often on the Bitcoin network so I guess it might also be the case with the Litecoin network.
5325  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin 100: Developed Specifically for Non-Profits on: April 02, 2013, 11:30:38 AM
It just seems to have veered off from *charities* which was where it started - I am sorry if my post was wrong (although I don't appreciate being questioned as to whether I am "high") - feel free to ask a mod to delete both those posts (his response to my post doesn't make him look so good either).

I was one of the first to donate and did so 3 times but I just don't think this thing is working like it used to (and am not keen on the "new way").

Hope this clarifies things.
5326  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin 100: Developed Specifically for Non-Profits on: April 02, 2013, 11:02:43 AM
Maybe I missed something with the whole documentary thing going on as I have never heard of this one before that post - I thought only Bruno was to be contacting the charities on behalf of Bitcoin 100 and so this didn't seem right to me.

(especially after https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=52543.msg1673306#msg1673306)

In any case I have now given up on this organisation and wish you all the best of luck.

5327  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin 100: Developed Specifically for Non-Profits on: April 02, 2013, 09:04:22 AM
Are you high?

No - but it seems that Bitcoin 100 has become derailed anyway so feel free to keep at it then.
5328  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin 100: Developed Specifically for Non-Profits on: April 02, 2013, 08:43:28 AM
At my instigation, Bratislava, Slovakia's Institute for Economic and Social Studies, a registered non-profit organization (občianské združenie) has begun accepting Bitcoin donations:

What has this got to do with Bitcoin 100?

You do know that it is very poor netiquette to advertise in a thread such as this?
5329  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: 60% Transaction Compression using OP_CODESEPARATOR without hard forks on: April 02, 2013, 05:31:28 AM
An interesting idea - do have an estimate of the % of tx's that this approach would be applicable to?
5330  Economy / Services / Re: Freelance, Contracting, Career, Staffing on: April 02, 2013, 03:31:35 AM
Nice work!  Smiley

Thanks.

It seems to be specifically targeted towards programmers?
And also, to join this project one would have to learn your particular C++ framework, correct?

For the CIYAM project itself (which *is* the framework) it is indeed mostly targeted at programmers but we are now working on bringing in designers and graphic artists.

You would only need to learn my framework if you wanted to work on the CIYAM project (other projects have already been created and more will be coming soon).

I'm curious. Why did you begin develop a C++ web app framework?
And also, what does the name CIYAM stand for?

Basically I wanted to develop something that is much more secure than what is generally being used and also I just didn't want to bother with scripting languages. Cheesy

(as for what CIYAM stands for - that might be the subject of a competition)
5331  Economy / Services / Re: Freelance, Contracting, Career, Staffing on: April 02, 2013, 03:01:10 AM
Guys CIYAM Open (http://ciyam.org/open) has been designed specifically to provide a more professional (i.e. not bounties) approach to working online for BTC (task specific and with only one person working on a task with a pre-allocated BTC amount for each task).

The site is awaiting some redesign work and a facelift before it gets re-launched - if you guys want to be involved you are welcome to PM me.
5332  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: offline QR Code software with selectable error correction level? on: April 01, 2013, 10:58:21 AM
You can also use brainwallet.org offline and from memory the .js has arguments for the type of QR code and level of error correction (I did play around with the QR code "type" but didn't play with the error correction).

5333  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Advantage of coin control, response to Mike Hearn on: March 31, 2013, 04:19:11 PM
Having an *expert* mode is the right approach - there are many reasons why expert users might want/need "Coin Control" - to stop them having it to "protect the newbies" doesn't make any sense at all.
5334  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallet - do I delete it? on: March 31, 2013, 02:30:23 PM
Why do you want to delete your wallet?
5335  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Ann] Fartcoin - the coin you create just by farting (mining begins April 1st) on: March 31, 2013, 01:22:21 PM
Can Fartcoin be used on the Sniff Road?

Indeed it can - although your farts will need to first be obfuscated by an "anonymous fart" service.
5336  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Zero knowledge proof of coin ownership ? on: March 31, 2013, 11:23:52 AM
So... how about someone set up an escrow business?

That was really my point (that you would *need* to use escrow) but apparently the OP doesn't want to involve an escrow at all.
5337  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Zero knowledge proof of coin ownership ? on: March 31, 2013, 10:32:52 AM
This would not work.

1) This is not proof that the borrower will actually pay.

I don't see how this argument carries any weight.

When you borrow fiat from a banker, they look at your
assets and repayment history. None of these things are
proof that you are going to repay.

A bank will seize your house or car if you don't repay but they would not be able to size your BTC (so it's a *useless* asset if it is not held in escrow).
5338  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: bitcoind balance doesn't agree on: March 31, 2013, 03:30:19 AM
Oh - sorry - has it has been used it should not longer be "reserved" (the addresses that are marked as "reserved" are ones that you have not yet used either through creating an address explicitly or implicitly for receiving "change").
5339  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin forum crash IE10 on: March 30, 2013, 03:14:00 PM
I cannot even *use* IE with a bunch of my own Javascript - they don't do JS properly (nor probably care).

It's entirely up to you which browser you want to use but don't expect that everyone should change things to suit bad software.
5340  Other / Off-topic / Re: if a block was mined every 2 min? on: March 30, 2013, 03:11:44 PM
and to answer my own question: yes, it will go up exponentially

Sorry - I must have got confused - but glad that you worked out the answer - are you suggesting that Bitcoin should be changed to allow for quicker mining of blocks?
