5321  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: RBF to fish buggy transactions from the memory pool on: August 17, 2019, 09:27:02 PM
It's possible. I did it when testing double spends...

What are you planning to use this for though?

It is not necessary to rely on NSA (or Chinese government) level spying to track what I was referring to. I was referring to something closer to tracking cookies that can track your activity. I believe these can help detect things like if accounts are being hacked, for example if someone is accessing an account with the same browser type and IP range as normal but without a cookie that has previously been consistently present when accessing an account. I also believe these can pretty easily be removed, so if you don’t want this type of tracking, it is trivial to stop it.

Cookie clearout happens too often for me Grin...

Also, there isn't much you can happily track without making it possible for other sites to get hold of your data stored on a cookie. Hopefully there is currently just a random session ID stored on out systems for the cookie for this site (afaik, that's how stuff normally works). You could track people by MAC addresses but I think it's possible to not use a mac address as modems are good at identifying devices with clones of mac addresses and IP addresses now (I've tested that)...

I'm surprised though that theymos hasn't started looking at anonymising accounts further though as there's a lot you could do to improve anonymity of people especially if your servers get hacked or Amazon fancies a look...
5323  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: The Jet Cash coffee lounge thread. on: August 17, 2019, 05:07:42 PM
Actually food is easier to find than potable water if you are not in the towns. You can obtain it in the towns, but that is a different skill.

Ah, in my home town water is easier to come by as our town is built atop of a load of natural springs/water ways and I'm a couple of miles away from Buxton (the town has springs, the water might not use that water but there are certainly a lot of springs)...
You can drink water from reservoirs normally too (they don't filter it from there to tap normally).

There are degrees of poverty, and I guess mine is an assumed role. I've got a credit card with several thousand pounds available, and no debt on it. A debit account, savings and Bitcoin also add to my reserves.

Monetary poverty and material poverty are different things. Material poverty is much easier to live with and one you can have a choice over. I see no use for a credit card anymore, they used to offer cashback but now all there is is a promise you'll have to pay interest if money doesn't come out of another account in time...
5324  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BitMEX alternatives? on: August 17, 2019, 04:54:01 PM
Try bybit? I think it's better than bitmex as you can use a % on increases so you can stop at 25% profits and set stop losses at 5 or 15%.

The OP is looking for US-friendly exchanges. Bybit prohibits trading from the US, same as Bitmex and Deribit.

I'm talking to the guy I quoted? It's a discussion forum, we don't just talk to the OP...

lol the bybit shilling is stronk that we better call it shillbit. They pay some lowlifes to shill on twitter and here and they expect people will believe the crap. I doubt if some of these 'influencers' actually do margin trading at all. For example, stop loss function is available on almost every single futures exchange i.e. bitmex deribit basefex. Whoever claims it is some revolutionary innovation developed by shillbit can only be a shill who doesn't trade futures at all. In fact basefex probably has the most interesting function of this type because their 'trigger' can do more things than others equavalents.

Huh? It's got a high enough liquidity and doesn't have "system overload" errors as much as bitmex does. If bitmex ran it's operations like coinbase does rather than looking as if it puts everything on one server and having a really bad responsiveness then it would be better other than the auto-deleveraged function that I haven't seen on bitmex (it's probably on more places than bybit it's just the only place I have personally seen it)... I'm still going to use both though because some of the charting s tuff with bitmex is better since it adjusts to where you set limit prices to include the full thing which bybit can't.

If binance leverage trading get a license from the SEC (which I think they were going to since they teamed up with an exchange in the US) then they'll probably be the best for it if you can't use a vpn/tor...
5325  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: The Jet Cash coffee lounge thread. on: August 17, 2019, 03:21:07 PM
I'm not sure on the type of pverty you're thinking of.

If you have enough money to keep going (or getting a fixed income) then I guess material poverty might not be a bad thing as you are still able to survive. All you really need for survival is food and water, the latter is free if you can find a good source (the first is harder to come by free but it's still possible).

An experiment was done a while ago where they gave a homeless guy £100,000. He had no neeed for the money and thus didn't really care where it went so he just started giving it out to other people and spending it (as far as I can remember)... What your fate is is based a lot on you, if you have some sort of shelter, some sort of food source and water then you're pretty much sorted...

It's better than what I'd have turned the topic to, I was trying to leverage trade on 100x and decided that I could put a small amount in and then keep incrementing it if it went the other way. It started off as a good idea but I managed to keep alternating between hitting the buy and sell button so I was just absorbing the losses rather than adjusting the position to make for a greater profit...
5326  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BitMEX alternatives? on: August 16, 2019, 12:02:31 PM
Disclaimer: I have been trading on BitMEX for a year.

Try bybit? I think it's better than bitmex as you can use a % on increases so you can stop at 25% profits and set stop losses at 5 or 15%. There's also no server overload errors atm and an autoreleveraging system so you can keep your position if it goes past the liquidation price which I find helpful.
5327  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Boris, Brexit and the Robin Tilbrook case on: August 16, 2019, 11:50:55 AM
It's not great to be removed by default from something since the treaties we have are minimal and it would be harder to negotiate tariffs with the EU if we do force a departure, however it's surprising he is the defense because a leave like thst would be interesting...

If it does win, they'd have to extend article 50 again anyway since we won't have any infrastructure at customs to deal with sending stuff across and checking it all...
5328  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BitMEX alternatives? on: August 16, 2019, 01:10:33 AM
Bitmex and bybit are the only well recommended ones with high leverages. Can you not just use tor to connect to them?

If not, binance does do a bit of leverage if you get on the scheme. Companies like plus500 seem to always be advertised too for cfd trading...

This site suggests Deribit and quedex (as avaliable in the US) : https://www.bitcoinmarketjournal.com/bitcoin-options/
5329  Other / Meta / Re: Should Evil fees have a maximum? on: August 15, 2019, 09:51:17 PM
This thread makes me wonder what the highest amount of evil fees anyone has ever paid is?
Got any stats on that Theymos?

I've seen 0.04 before, not sure how much higher than that it could go.

Instead of having a maximum, maybe we say everyone can claim back their evil fee - copper membership once they reach Sr or Hero because then they'll have proved themselves and they still have to pay $20 (merit abuse is quite well spotted now)...
5330  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [SECURITY/PRIVACY WARNING] Electrum console content is being stored on disk on: August 15, 2019, 06:14:17 PM
On Electrum, there are only commands, so they could trim any information inside parenthesis for command such as importprivkey()

It might be easier just to encrypt the last commands used and then decrypt them like it does the wallet file and store them in memory, it probably does that when you open the wallet anyway so it would make sense to do it here too...
5331  Economy / Services / Re: Turning bad English to good English on: August 15, 2019, 05:21:00 PM
Not sure how you'll do with this, me and jet cash were doing it for free and weren't getting much interest.

But good luck!
5332  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: August 15, 2019, 03:14:41 PM
I just got on the onion site, what is the issue you have? Can you try it again if it was just connection. Momentary downtime shouldn't cause too much of an issue it isn't a critical system just wait for it to come back (you have to wait for your transaction to confirm anyway)...
5333  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: [SECURITY/PRIVACY WARNING] Electrum console content is being stored on disk on: August 15, 2019, 11:59:08 AM
Yeah I'm not sure this is a problem but it definitely has been there since I found the console table (probably at least a year ago). Deleting those lines just deallocates them, if someone is really after your data they might still be able to get it unless you defrag or fill the drive completely every time. If you'll notice you should be able to hit the up button to get your last command which is sometimes helpful but I don't think it should be encouraged either. They've probably done this because Linux does similar, you can normally access your previous commands on your next login.
5334  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: how to confirm bitcoin tx with my antminers s9 on: August 14, 2019, 06:20:34 PM
Viabtc.com used to offer a tx accelerator to people who mined with them, you could proably take a look into that and see if you can get your transaction accelerated that way...
5335  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: The Jet Cash coffee lounge thread. on: August 14, 2019, 05:12:48 PM
The real disaster for the UK was letting the City of London take overt control in the 1970s

None of the people involved in the government do anything particularly beneficial for anyone other than themselves.

The bus travel in london is probably the cheapest anywhere in the UK (because it's subsidised by the government)... I've seen busses so full they've rolled back down a hill in order to get a running start before they go up it from the stop (and that company is certainly making tremendous profits).

I am beginning to think that the government ought to be split up (along with the country). We can probably split England into 6 pieces, it'd probably make things better if everything was handled locally as it should be. Currently, MPs spend most of their times in london - they're not going to work out what the problems are that they have to answer to and push towards parliament if the problems are 200 miles away.

I'm testing out bybit, it seems quite a nice platform compared to bitmex it's just a shame I can't trade well :-).

I saw some news on the incorporation of bitcoin in the samsung phones recently - I'm guessing they've given up on their foldable screens that were too difficult to maintain in non-lab conditions...
5336  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Sell Now - Buy Again @ $10500 on: August 14, 2019, 03:00:56 PM
hmm yeah, I think it's true that 10,500 is the next closest support line and I have sell it when MA50 & MA100 cross and BTC has broken support. I will try to buy back at the next 10,500-10,700.

I was watching the minute line as we went through and it didn't seem to hold up much resistance on the first go through it at least (there may be retests)...

WE can probably expect to go a bit lower but I'm not sure how far before return. There's probably going to be a lot of support at the $10000 mark...
5337  Other / Meta / Re: [SUGGESTION] Drafts Page on: August 13, 2019, 10:49:02 PM
When I need to draft stuff I normally use notepad or a built in text editor to keep a copy of what I want to write and just have the going as it is...

I'm not sure about the drafts page, I think it's more of something we have just kept from SMF and it's main purpose is to find out what your topic was if it gets trashed by a moderator or something (IMO) and sometimes it might be helpful if you want to draft a lot in one go and leave it there to post in a  few hours/days.
5338  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: The Jet Cash coffee lounge thread. on: August 13, 2019, 08:43:15 PM
There was the other issue that if you buy something in the UK it's rarely converted for the rate. If you pay 50 cents for something in Europe or the US, you'll likely pay 50 pence here (a but more than it is there) because people can't be bothered adjusting rates and it seems the same psychologically...

I've had some sad cakes that still taste nice without much work so I don't think brexit will be all bad. It can't really be denied too that Europe was a way for the richer countries to subsidise the countries that were bigger (how the rebate was decided) while oceans or any other assets a country had weren't taken into consideration...
5339  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: UK Guy - looking for 12v solar panels for mining project on: August 13, 2019, 04:09:34 PM
dont think youd need an inverter at all if you can use a regulator he can go from 12v batter (14.4v at charge) straight to the miner (12v)  and bypass both the inverter and PSU

Solar panels normally need an inverter, often they're built in nowadays so no you don't need a separate inverter but it can help keep a safe power between the battery input and the solar panels...
5340  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Calculation of Taxes using FIFO (Coinbase, Bittrex & Binance) on: August 13, 2019, 04:04:28 PM
I'm in the UK, do you have the transactions in a spreadsheet or something (I have to sort mine out for january so I can take a look if you like)?

If you put money into bitcoin but hold that same bitcoin then you can't declare a loss until you sell it (same with altcoins). You don't have to pay any taxes if you do a conversion from BTC to USD and plan to convert it back also immediately (just profits you withdraw).
