5341  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: UK Guy - looking for 12v solar panels for mining project on: August 13, 2019, 03:56:28 PM
You might be better off trying to use wind power if you can. We don't often go below 10 or 20 miles per hour here and if there's enough space for the solar panels, there should be enough space for the turbines too...

If you're going with solar panels, there are calculators as the others have siad that allow you to estimate how much power you're going to need.

If you're interested in upgrading an antminer S1-S5 then you might be fine with 300W, if not then you MAY need a better inverter, if the inverter is that low you might face issues with the batteries not being charged very well and them being drained extremely quickly (which may cause them to overheat or something if they're only getting a tiny amount in and it is immediatley getting taken out). If you can put up the funds, a 2000W inverter is about £200 on amazon. You might also have to account for the fact that we get 6 hours of sunlight in the winter and 16-18 hours in the summer per day.
5342  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How it is possible on: August 13, 2019, 03:31:51 PM
It's probably just an issue with how the other site handles numbers or something... It's probably not worth investigating, it's a shame the minig pool doesn't have a calculator attached for you to use (that'd be helpful)...

5343  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How it is possible on: August 13, 2019, 02:59:54 PM
Maybe have a look at this one and see what it says: https://www.coincalculators.io/coin/ravencoin

You're better off checking a few different sites anyway.
5344  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How it is possible on: August 13, 2019, 02:36:14 PM
Looks like a clear bug with the site since 14 hash units seems to make more than 17 hash units. Have you tried calculating on other sites too?
5345  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Biometric BTC wallet? on: August 13, 2019, 02:16:40 PM
I imagine retinal scanning is bad for long term storage (does it use blood vessel arrangements)?

I wouldn't mine my private keys being generated by dna, but that'd have to come from blood for it to be fairly accurate...

Finger prints and faceid aren't very good and neither are pins for security reasons... I don't know if scanning every finger ever becomes possible then that would be well secured but the issue with biometric scanning is that your data probably won't be encrypted as it can't encrypt them if it's using a pattern matching algorithm.
5346  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Suspected Bitcoin mining scam on: August 12, 2019, 10:57:49 PM
As a bit of a tip, if you search the address you'll come across this: https://www.reddit.com/r/bitfinex/comments/7ihnz5/now_almost_350000000_in_hot_wallet_bitfinex/

The address is owned by Bitfinex which is an exahnge. It is nothing to do with btc_mine or anything they do. I'm sure i've seen that instagram before but can't work out where it's from . Anyway, take your losses as a lesson and be happy in the fact it was only $1000. I'd advocate for you plotting to scam your money back from him (not from anyone else) but I'm not sure how easy/hard that'd be, he might not have much either.

Side note, if you have 480BTC, you don't accept $50-1000 investments normally (sometimes you do but...)
5347  Other / Meta / Re: Which is the correct section to post this thread. (Link inside) on: August 12, 2019, 10:11:27 PM
I'd suggest either Long Term offers, Gambling or Service Announcements depending on how likely you are to keep going (Games and rounds might be best in the gambling section if you're offering a stable interest or attempting to)...

Gambling is probably best for HYIP schemes (High yield investment program). If it's unlikely this is going to make profits, don't bother risking people's money. There are a lot of people here that will put in more than they should and can afford (and they might not be much anyway, so just don't unless you can get the profits)...
5348  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: The Jet Cash coffee lounge thread. on: August 12, 2019, 09:59:25 PM
I'm not sure how likely they are to get anything through parliament. Hopefully the EU won't offer another extension as it's killing businesses more in the termoil, than it would if we left without a deal (under WTO rules and the other treaties we have)...

A lot of financial institutions seem to be struggling too internationally. I asaw yesterday, a bank in denmark were offering negative interest rates on mortgages (-0.5%) I'm guessing this is because it's better to lend to people and get them stuck in debt or to have it so people think they're getting a good deal and add other charges to them... In the UK the banks seem to be happy to lend with a bit more risk too (and seeming to try to give people money at lowish interest rates - 1.5% or less - while offering no interest on accounts or a maximum of 0.5% - I'm starting to wonder if any of the interests will go negative at some point...)
5349  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: San-Serif or Serif when modifying Font Face for your posts/ threads on: August 12, 2019, 01:34:54 PM

Can the subject be modified?

No, bb code can't be used in topic titles. Maybe some forums take it further and have some code in the bbcode so it's not helpful to load it when you click recent replies or something...

Changing font isn't very good and might make you lost people of your Ann if you've used a font they don't like.

Most people here are going to be after sonething you can skim read and it's easier when they're all in the same font...
5350  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Understand this - Bitcoin is not a commodity it is a working product on: August 11, 2019, 06:07:15 PM

If you understand Bitcoin and the concept, it was never meant to be a commodity. It was meant to be and will always be the replacement of FIAT currency and Financial dependence. It is was never never meant to become a quick way to become Rich.

A lot of people that "missed the boar" or "don't understand and don't want to" are going to call it out. And when it's called digital gold, fiat is paper gold... But at least bitcoin is backed by its fiat market cap and people who know about it.

A strategy thst works once to get rich quick will rarely do the same thing twice... Anyone who thinks logically can see that it's not unlikely we will reach $20k again per coin because we did it before... What we don't know and probably won't is when that will be - until it happens.

I think the next financial crisis might push a lot of people to bitcoin. Poor(ish) governments might try doing what Greece did and hit the wealthy people to pay off their debts and people will be forced into bitcoin.
5351  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: August 09, 2019, 10:00:14 PM
You probably accidentally went to step 3 or 4, you could try reloading the cache in your history but it might be best to send an email to the ChipMixer address on their site with the address you deposited to and a signed and dated message from the address you sent from.
5352  Other / Meta / Re: Should I lock my Chance to Rank Up thread for Newbies and Jr. Members? on: August 09, 2019, 10:09:38 AM
As a person who thinks the best thing about merit scores is the fact they can be unified and mined in a set, I'll give a couple of thoughts.

You may as well keep trying to distribute merit. Those people who gave you merits to hand put should've instead asked you to send them a list of users to merit instead... Its not exactly up to you to do that and why not become a source?

You could try meriting members too as they're still low ranked. I don't normally notice usernames until someone is a full member so even if they make quality posts, I personally am unlikely to merit them.
5353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: British Authorities (HMRC )Seek Data from Crypto Exchanges on: August 08, 2019, 08:01:06 PM
They could be opening a big can of worms, as I believe a lot of so called traders are actually losing money

And as a result, taxes will be paid only by a small number of traders that receive a minimum profit. As a result, this whole idea will be more expensive for UK Authorities

I'm no longer going to trade in q1. I make a profit then... Lose it in q2 normally so I now have to list a gain and then a loss immediately. Which is, as I see it, a waste of a page...

I'm guessing @leo is right, they're only going to care abouy those plungimg huge amounts into exchanges... Bybthat there are probably people putting much more than the average person is for trading.
5354  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance KYC Data Leak - Allegedly on: August 08, 2019, 05:08:30 PM
I don't think they've hacked email addresses from binance because none of my addresses have emails (checked spam, junk and everything)...

I doubt much will come from this, it'll be like the alledged coinbase hack where they just sent a load of kyc documents they'd bought off the internet and said they got it from coinbase.

One of the reasons why we shouldn't have KYC in this sector, no one - even governments - are able to properly store it.
5355  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How safe are my funds? on: August 08, 2019, 12:49:08 PM
3.3.2 made the messages render as plain text.
3.3.3 fixed the exploit.

You are right, but this makes me wonder why electrum states that versions < 3.3.4 (including 3.3.3) are vulnerable to the phishing message.

Maybe that's just a typo on their website ?

I thought that the problem got fixed but it just stopped showing error messages altogether until they could work out how to get it to show them? So it wasn't actually a permenant fix and I'd say that means it was probably still affected by the attack (because of the usability difference).

There's noting in the changelog actually for 3.3.4. For 3.3.3, there's this: " * Do not expose users to server error messages (#4968)"

5356  Economy / Exchanges / Re: exchanges making good on: August 08, 2019, 12:03:30 PM
Coinbase generally have to apy fees to move your moeny into their main address from your deposit address and then (sometimes) [ay your withdrawal fees too.

If you use pro for example, volume with EURO is ~30 million a day, I'd imaging they can make 3 BTC a day from that alone (as it seems quite expensive to keep those servers continually running since they do a better job keeping their servers online than a couple of other exchanges do)...
5357  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I need help restore my wallet.dat on: August 08, 2019, 08:08:49 AM
Yeah just wait for a full sync. You probably used a lot of bitcoin addresses if you send transactions.

Bitcoin has a way of sending to a new address every time because it makes it more private... Just wait for the sync.
if the address had history and all that was received was equal to all that was sent minus some then it makes sense. Feel free to pm me thst address and I'll take a look at it.
5358  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I need help restore my wallet.dat on: August 07, 2019, 11:51:43 PM
the hd logo is on the bitcoin core I just installed, but the screen says 0 btc even after I pasted my old wallet.dat to the folder, seems like I have to sync it first to find out, I don't remember if I added a password(very unlikely)

Yay!

Like what has been said, unless stuff is encrypted with a STRONG 16-20 character password then it may be compromised and you should try moving your bitcoins elsewhere if you have another computer or can use another wallet.

(If the coins have survived there for a year, don't rush this step - you might end up regretting rushing it - it isn't a matter of urgency if the funds haven't already been moved so wait for when you can take a look and check things through and check you're doing it right but you should take no longer than a week to move the coins)
5359  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I need help restore my wallet.dat on: August 07, 2019, 11:09:57 PM
Whne you open your client, look in the bottom right and see if it has the HD logo at the bottom? If not there might be a problem in recovering your funds, also if there is and you added a password (after the backup) there might also be an issue recovering your funds. If you still have the old hard drive there are ways to restore the wallet file from that if it hasn't been overwritten but it'll probably be better to wait for it to sync to see if the funds are there.

(Ignore the part above about batch files, it's much faster to sync directly now for almost all cases).
5360  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: My unconfirmed transactions no longer get shown on block explorers on: August 07, 2019, 08:16:18 PM
Ahhh thanks, there's a separate tab for unconfirmed!

That was clearly my issue... Observation skills are clearly still awful. Thanks, I'll have to test that out again and see if I can find it!
