Huh. Almost felt something there for a moment.

Oh well. Back to this shit human existence...

Well I am hoping for further dipping with luck we can fall to 21.5k
I would get more dip near that point.

So Buddy finally served up some nice dip

I got in 22.3k with 4x units of fiat.

Thanks to bob's price mention and me fight with buddy.

I would love starlink unfortunately I do not think it is in my area yet and I think it might be too expensive when it is available. I wonder how long it will take to get global coverage and if prices will go down or continue at the current rate. Starlink will probably take over the internet when it is fully running and there will be other companies trying to setup their own satellites or maybe rent them off of Elon Musk and resell the hardware.

100+ speed will be enough for most people but what upload are you getting? I find that ISP provided internet through lines only get a small upload speed compared to the download but I do not know if they are intentionally limiting that because they should have enough resources and the cables can support more then the 20 I get.

I know this might be sci fi talk for now but I wonder if we will ever get DIY satellites and combine that with a Bitcoin node. Maybe not as a professional product but as a fun hobby thing. I guess it would probably be illegal to launch your own satellites though.

I am 200 down 50 up most of the time.

I could pay for 1000 down and 150 up but so far I dont need that speed.

I am mostly hardwire eth to a hard wire cable company.

starlink just became available in my area and im on it now. easy to self install (took about an hour including the roof mount and drilling holes for the cable run. kit comes with everything you need - 2 drill bits (a concrete/masonary bit for the through holes in the foundation, and one wood bit to drill mounting holes on the roof or siding and into studs/rafters, plus a couple kinds of sealers, templates, cable clips for running the line neatly, etc.

and 99.9% uptime so far. speeds are pretty good, faster than any inet ive had available around here by a LOOOOONG shot... although the previous bar was pretty low indeed.

tlrd: starlink rocks... blockchain cranks dling now. and just in time to grab all that bloat from nfts.... ah well progress is progress i guess.

How much speed do you you get with it?

depends on how i measure. starlink app says 183 Mb/s but i think thats wrong. i get a bit over 120 Mb/s (vaires) when dling a steam game for example. ive also seen it as low as 50 Mb/s.

might be my setup.. my setup goes dish -> starlink router+ the optional addon ethernet breakout cable (extra cost) -> to my rack mounted managed switch -> to a wifi AP.. all hardwired. with cat5e

so it depends on what machine is running the speed test on and how its connected. i can go on startlinks wifi, my netgear wifi AP or wired.

still messing with it a bit. theres like 12 devices hanging off it.

the switch could be 1ghi and if 12 devices are on it you will slow up.

likely the router  is the bottle neck.

still 50 mbs for your low is very good for a satellite.

My reason is because a lot of countries do not have internet every where. I lot of places in Africa need offline money and sending transactions offline with Bitcoin is difficult. It can be done by giving someone a seed of a set amount but that is not ideal. We need different currencies for different things. Bitcoin is the king when it comes to global transactions but when it comes to local and quick transactions physical might be better not always but in certain times.
Satellite will become more popular and given enough time the whole world will have internet access. The only places that might struggle will be the places where they do not have any power but I think this will improve too. The world is evolving and as soon as Bitcoin takes off the places with no power or internet will be encouraged to develop if the rest of the world is using Bitcoin.

I have to agree with you as satellites will achieve  world wide coverage in the next decade.

Given the sheer mass of material that has to be shot into space on a regular base to keep things working I have my doubts this will be sustainable for a long time.

Oh god I redid the math on re-entries:

Each Starlink v2 sat weighs 1250kg.  They plan to have 42,000 of them in orbit.

Each satellite has a planned lifetime of 5 years.  That means they'll be de-orbiting and replacing ALL of them every 5 years.

That comes to 23 sats per day, which is 29 TONS OF SATELLITE every day.

It doesn't go away, it gets added to the upper atmosphere.  Most of the mass is aluminum.  What the hell is that going to do?

WHY THE FUCK IS THIS OK?!

^ And again, that's only for Starlink, there are many more.

To bring up the point about stupidity and government this goes to further proving that by playing the we are a stupid government card they will make endless money with these multiple launches.

Who the fuck came up with that plan

42,000 x 1250= 52,500,000 kg or ˝ of an aircraft carrier.

I imagine being aluminum would help it burn up better when it crashes

What are you running it (starlink) off? Solar power going into a battery bank and then running it directly off the battery pack into the satellite? Does it move or is it stationary? I cannot think why it would use as much energy as you say because if it does not have a motor it should just be pointing at the satellite and if that does not move it just sends the connection back. If it has a motor and follows the satellite I can see why it would use a lot of energy.

the dish has motors (3 axis i think.. ) and does change. ive seen it pointing to varying degrees north and east as well as change its azmith (may have those terms wrong)

anyway it does move, and there seems to be no real pattern. but as long as it works..

btw my starlink and the rest of the network stack are on a UPS.  and i highly recommend a UPS at LEAST for the startlink. turns out if you power it off and on 3 times in a row it resets to a blank password and anyone can then take over your starlink. as starlink didnt bother with a dedicated hard reset switch on the router. so 3 power cycles is how it done.  so of course  3 power glitches in short succession is faily common around here. doh..   gotta wonder sometimes. great tech but the occasional horrid implementation.

typical good gear bad soft ware.

what UPS do you own? there are some good ones out there. with additional battery to add to it.

"Pensions are a western world concept."

Yeah they are. And if you manage to get a good one you become somewhat subservient to it.

Thus no F.U. status unless you have the money to fully replace it and do not care if they (the man) eliminates it.

fed rates are due end of march?

here is some nice fud about them.

https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/federal-reserve-policy-interest-rate-hike-markets-mohamed-elerian-2023-3

to paraphrase:
if we do 25% again and inflation gets worse fed looks stupid
if we go to .50% feds looks like they drop the ball with last move.

my thoughts are different:

I maintain that the 3.5 trillion dollar Long term care industry is not quite bailed out.

You don’t see much info on msm that they thrive with higher bond interest and fail with lower bond interest.

So I see that fud I linked as a distraction from-the stealth bailout of LTC companies.

I predict multiple increases of .25% this march and mid may.

when they fail to cut it with inflation a larger jump of .5% in late june.

all serving to tamp down btc and shitcoin numbers.

I am analyzing I bonds as I type.

@ jjg

your assessment that btc over the next 10-20 years is it will have the highest rate of return is something I am prepared for.

i am prepared for it to do other things such as

what gold did from 1992 to 2003

that is stay in slot 200-400 usd.

btc from dec 2022 to 2033 stays in a slot from 16k to 50k

my methods will allow me to survive that.

or go as high as 500k same time slot.

but remember i get coins at 50% with my mining deal.

there are not a lot of us doing this.
5356  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 02, 2023, 05:44:29 PM
I did buy 2 m30s+ units which are earning coin as I type.
I am adding a 110th s19 pro next week

Props to you for continuing mining. I just can't cost-justify the aggravation at this point managing a miner - I was torturing myself with Lightning as it is, and find at the end of the day, it's just easier to smash buy $250 at odd intervals; knowing it's more BTC than I would have acquired if I never bought the miner to begin with...

Unnerstan?

yep 👍 since that is the cheapest way for you to buy btc.

my mining deal allows me to get btc at 50% off. once the gear is paid for.

So if I expand slowly during the “dip” i pay the piece of gear off quickly and then get coin at half price

wakeup man!!!! buddy got one over on you. this is not a good look for us humans ya know

Hey I stayed up till 1am .

I am back on the job and gaining on buddy for Thursday.

I am beginning to realize it is close to impossible to do this for a month.

Buddy  march 2  = 13
Phil      march 2 =   9

what holds me back is I don't do mobile for bitcointalk

thus when I leave the house buddy gains on me.
and of course buddy gains while I sleep.

What dip?

You started this... I just want you to remember that I remember...

Hey I did a DCA on weds. and you are correct when we dropped off the 25k table I did say buddy setup some dip for us.

Which is pretty tasty at 23.3k or so

I did buy 2 m30s+ units which are earning coin as I type.
I am adding a 110th s19 pro next week

So I am buying the gear dip more than I am buying the coin dip.

I am close to having my mine filled with these nice low prices on gear.
