As for Bitcoin Magazine, I suspect this first issue will soon become a valuable collectors item if Bitcoin reaches even a fraction of its potential.

Everyone I've talked to has ordered 2 copies for that exact reason.
5382  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Place your ad in the Bitcoin Magazine(.net) Classifieds Section! on: January 27, 2012, 10:21:05 PM
Matthew,

We talk through email 2 days ago, I ask for a digital version of Bitcoin Magazine...

You said that it cost 0.545454, so, I pay you in two minutes...

You stop responding my emails and disappear.

 Where is my Bitcoin Magazine?!?!?

Are you a scammer?! I hope not.

Best Regards,
Thiago

The magazine isn't to be published until February, from what I've read.

You'd be absolutely right in thinking that (it is mentioned about a dozen times in the main thread).

I messaged Thiago to apologize for any confusion on my part.

We're moving as fast as we can!

I like the pixelation and the jpg artifacting on the image you blew up to magazine size, very Minecraft-esque.

Glad you approve!

Actually it's a screen shot from InDesign. The real deal is 300 dpi.
5384  Economy / Services / Re: C++/Java Programming and Tutoring [Escrow Req'd] -- 1st job 80% off! on: January 27, 2012, 02:09:36 PM
I noticed your "looking for work" thread.

Would you be interested in posting the same Job hunting ad in the magazine's classifieds section? It's $0.50/word but the exposure to the community is going to be massive (more than obscure threads/subforums).

Let me know mate!

5387  Economy / Speculation / Re: U changed me into a bear on: January 27, 2012, 11:49:24 AM

Probably everyone buying up in anticipation of the magazine's popularity.  Roll Eyes

just like there was expectation before good wife episode Sad

Ah yes, but that was unfounded speculation related to "what could happen" if people saw the episode. We all know what will happen when we get our own magazine-- party! Not to mention, this 'community' of ours will finally start looking like one.

EDIT: And another thing-- The good wife is a TV show, and that's fine, but the kind of people who are looking for Bitcoin will find it through reading, not through watching dramas. It's also very hard to ignore something when it's no longer digital. Even when our magazine is laying in the street soaking up rain water, someone will pick it up because they've never had the chance to find anything out about "Bitcoin" or weren't interested enough to remember to look. People are busy creatures these days. They like everything summarized, and shows like "The good wife" don't ask questions, they give answers and pacify people to that summary (hence why Americans are mostly idiots these days). Our magazine will deliver Bitcoin as a culture, make it sound interesting (because it is!). All that show did was make it look like another complicated thing no one would understand unless they're a nerd. Pff.

"Oh. So that's Bitcoin. Next drama!".
5388  Economy / Speculation / Re: U changed me into a bear on: January 27, 2012, 11:15:35 AM
Funny thing happened to me today: I turned from a bear back into a bull.  It seems to me that new money is starting to trickle into bitcoin, possibly from the TV exposure, or perhaps it's just the Manipulator slyly buying back in.  In either case, I think that anyone that sells at or below $5 is going to regret it in a few weeks.

I certainly agree that bitcoins aren't worth $2 right now, but speculation is not about just the current worth, but also the possible future worth, and on an arbitrarily long timeline.  They might be a better deal next week at $4.X, and they might not - about all that's for sure is that bitcoins are significantly cheaper now than they were a week ago.  Yes, I know the market is full of manipulation, but so is every other market - nothing new there.  As the saying goes, "the market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent".

Probably everyone buying up in anticipation of the magazine's popularity.  Roll Eyes
5389  Economy / Speculation / Re: U changed me into a bear on: January 27, 2012, 10:21:43 AM
Yup, go short & win  Grin

honestly, I reckon BTC is worth about $2 atm

I'd say it's worth less than $2 at the moment because I still can't pay for anything I use in my real life with it. It's about as useful as WOW gold to me.

Enough speculating--- let's get busy on making ourselves more valuable so that we ourselves back it!

I hate that women.
With a passion.

If she got rid of the passion, would you hate her less?

Is that a fucking whale tattoo!? LOL

Mmmmm......fish and chips are great, but so far the ones I've had in America were better.

English Fish and Chips > USA

How about some sushi and potatoes?
5392  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Ebay of Bitcoin on: January 27, 2012, 07:01:52 AM
I hear ya boss, not wanting to step on toes. I'm doing research at this stage. that is all

For the record, I chose "yes" in the poll.

I've seen Bitpond and others try their hand at this thinking it would be a magnificent opportunity that everyone else is wasting. Unfortunately, inactivity towards an opportunity is sometimes better for the opportunity than improper action towards it. Look at every exchange, store, etc that pops up every week. If you put those guys together in a room and stripped their greed and infatuation with being important away, you'd have the makings of a world changing initiative and a potentially globally recognized business in some cases.

I do agree with asking questions, and I do admit that I am not capable of appreciating and understanding everything about every idea that I come across, but actions speak much louder than words. Make a site first and see if it gets any attention or support. If it does, you can gauge your investment in it off of that. Word of advice though, give it your all on that first try but never give more than you can afford to. A successful businessman for example, is not someone who makes a single successful business-- it's someone who can walk away from 100 failed businesses unscathed.
5393  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Ebay of Bitcoin on: January 27, 2012, 06:37:04 AM
Hey, You just happen to be a bitcoin media mogul, yes? (rubs hands together plotting like)
I think that if the site were to get started, It would have to be advertised in major magazines, such as computer shopper, maximum PC, 1600, game informer, popular science and mechanics, etc. That's why investors would be needed, because all that takes money

Here's what I can say about that.

If you want to take the responsibility, lead the team, find the resources, and make this your life from now on, always listening to criticism and doing what's best for the business, even if that means shutting down-- then even I'd be willing to follow you so long as it make sense to.

Ideas are essentially worthless though. Anyone can make anything, the question is "Who is actually going to make it?". Ebay already did. Craigslist did too. You're riding on a niche here and it might not be recognized for 5 or so years, even with mine or anyone elses' help.

If you hear all this and STILL want to proceed, I know 5 others like you who wanted to start and thought the same thing-- "If only I had the team to help me I could get this done!".

Well, you've got the team but..do you have the money to waste?
5394  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Ebay of Bitcoin on: January 27, 2012, 06:31:13 AM
This could be a way, if marketed in the right circles, to get more users to use bitcoin, much as the original Ebay fostered the use of the dreaded Paypal

You're absolutely right. The marketing effort needed would be something that absolutely everyone in Bitcoin would need to be involved in though, with absolutely no guarantee of success.

Not to mention, you'd be fighting not only the giants (which are obviously way bigger and more prepared than anything we bitcoiners could make on our own from scratch), but you'd be arguing Bitcoin at the same time.

Some people might see that as a plus, but I tell you-- it's a liability.

"Use this new site! All you need to do is Bitcoi-- where are you going?"

All kidding aside, it's not a bad idea, it's just not time yet imo.
5395  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Ebay of Bitcoin on: January 27, 2012, 06:24:12 AM
The DCAO has already discussed to great depths why a site like this is crucial, yet doomed to failure.

The key points are:

  • Volume
  • Volume
  • Volume

Rest assured. We could make a company, the site, and the business "thrive", but what exactly is "thrive" when bitcoin has less than 1 milliion active users? There is no point to doing it for bitcoin only, when you could just convince a company to accept bitcoin for their already accepted payment method on eBay for example.

Bottom line, reinventing the wheel is a fun adventure (I do it all the time!) but never do it as a serious business endeavor.

Here's your chance to do something for Bitcoin-- even as a newbie!

We've put together a magazine that will effectively represent Bitcoiners like yourselves and we need your support in different areas.

Here's what we're always keeping a look-out for:

  • Article writers (professionals only)
  • Photographers and imaging professionals with experience in tracking down creative commons free use images (Not stealing iStockphotos)
  • Local distribution agents (Need to guarantee acceptance at local stores)

PM me with your l33t skillz and we'll see how we can help you be useful!

Well unfortunately us noobs cant pm you its locked out Smiley haha.

But honestly i know you want professionals for your writing, but what about those of us starting out to give a first timers perspective.. something that might reinvigorate or breath life into some of the older players may have lost. Also something that can help those persons starting up without have to be frustrated by the newbs that i see some of the old timers get.

Just a thought, let me know i would enjoy dishing out my newly learned skills at bitcoin mining Smiley

First timer's opinions are almost entirely my focus at this point, but only en masse if you know what I mean.

I'll keep the community posted with things we would like outsourcing initiatives for. Everyone is being so great right now supporting us. If only I could find someone better at magazine designs who will work for free like me... hehe
