Here is the URL for Google Hangout. If you have a Google account, you can already announce you will attend it or share the link. A Google account WON'T be necessary to watch the video, but it will be for leaving comments on YouTube. If you also want to ask a question with the Q/A feature (as opposed to asking on #monero-dev) you will also need a Google+ account (new Google accounts automatically have Google+ activated, but older one might not).

Monero Fireside Chat #1

About Q/A: We activated the Q/A feature of Google Hangout on Air. You will have the opportunity to ask questions on Google Hangout on top of the regular #monero-dev questions. When a question asked on the Google Q/A platform will we answered, an anchor will be created on the video so that future viewers can go straight to the answer.

When you click on the play icon and it goes to a large player on the right I see saddambitcoin's avatar which is just a picture of Saddam Hussein.

Now *I* know why that is there, and who it belongs to...  but for those who do not, do we wish to have this face associated with the project?  He would be the definition of a controversial figure.

No offense meant to saddambitcoin.

This thread and idea are fun and inspirational.

I am posting to send kudos to Risto, and to those who get it (and give it away).  And I am posting to "subscribe".  It makes me happy to watch...

It was interesting to me to see today when monero made it's current attempt at a bottom there were several of us in the poloniex trollbox.  I can only assume some of you were there for the same reason as I. Wink

Done.

Decrease in pumping potential of every new "short POW -> POS" scam with privacy vaporware is not insignificant. They may just die off relatively quickly altogether.
Thank God for small mercies.  I was worried that I would have to buy tights and a batmobile.

Pretty sure now that you've said it you WILL have to.

Pics.

Soon.

"They won't write about what I like so they don't have integrity anymore"

Around here, we call people like you whiny bitches

Pretty much this.  And to be honest if I worked for Coindesk this thread would make me somewhat wary of Monero.

Of all the people I expected to completely miss the point, you weren't one of them. If CoinDesk is really nothing but a glorified trollbox, it doesn't really matter what they think, does it?

No.  I think I got the point.  The other side of that is...  if Coindesk is just a glorified trollbox then why does it even really mater what they think or report on?

I personally do not read their articles for the most part and don't really care what they report on.

But that's just me... Wink

See another good implementation of a web wallet where the user is in control here:

Regarding accessibility, I'm actually working on a slick deterministic seed based web-wallet that could perhaps be integrated into monerochain.info if there's interest. My intention is to drastically lower the barrier of entry to using Monero without depending on the core devs polishing the client.

I don't like talking about work this early on, but I want people to know there are complimentary projects taking place outside the official github repo.

I know that Easywallet-type of wallets are to be avoided, but for rapid adoption, they have played a part in BTC and could do that also with XMR.

Agreed. I think blockchain.info style wallets are pretty safe for everyday use and would make it a lot easier for people to use the currency, but I wouldn't depend on them for securing any significant amount of wealth.

I would like to point out there is a HUGE difference between blockchain.info wallets and easywallet.org and other wallets including coinbase for that matter.

With blockchain.info YOU control the private keys.  With so many others you do not.

IMHO any good web wallet will work this way.  Basing it of the 24 word mnemonic might be a good approach.

Well now.

I have to check my calculations over as I do my math with legos, but I think we may be at the moment we have all been waiting for.  Well at least since last Christmas or so.

The log trend line and the actual price look like they are about to meet up in a significant way.

Any actual techie gurus out there want to confirm?  But I think the next big move is a major trendsetter.  Or breaker...
5393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: -> Monero Community Hall of Fame <- on: July 31, 2014, 04:45:33 PM
I come to do my daily update.  But there are no donations.  Sad

Come on.  Make cAPS happy.  Make some work for him to do.
5394  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: July 31, 2014, 04:41:42 PM
Monero Enthusiasts.  Please remember as this is not a coin which pays developers out of a premine or other unfair distribution arrangement it is therefore currently a donation funded project.  The donation addresses (XMR and BTC) are in the OP.  There is also a thread started by rpietila which gives a permanent record of the supporters of this project:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=700400.0

I personally believe it is important to do even a small thing to help this project continue at the best pace possible.

Is there some group dedicated on developing monero-based services? Is there a development team working to make Monero significant?

There are a lot of people who want to make services. Developers I talk to about how to do them. However, so far, I've warned a lot of people against the creation of services until we've implemented proper privacy services and the database. We're making good headway into statistical analysis of the privacy features now and will roll out fixes soon.

Nutshell on how database is coming?

cryptsy makes no sense. they accept all those shit/scamcoins, but havent added monero yet. Im done using that exchange until they do, onto Poloniex!

You may have to wait for poloniex dns to propagate, but imho Poloniex>Cryptsy by a wide margin.

?

Boolberry does sound funny and not at all like money. I wonder how they came up with it.

........
Is your target market only programmers? 99% of the people in the world don't know what 'bool' means. You flunk Marketing 101.

99.999% also have no idea what is monero, since it is only about 2000 people know esperanto Wink.

With all due respect (and I have a few bbr in my pocket), this may be the biggest "glass house" statement I have ever read.

Monero is widely regarded a terrific name for a cryptocurrency.  Smells like money in many languages.  What does boolberry smell like? Wink

Bytecoin (BCN) was not fairly distributed. Monero has network effect going for it in the cryptonote space.

Forget about MonetaVerde, since it seems to be dead. I committed the error of investing some money on that.

Thanks.

Bytecoin (BCN)
Aeon (AEON)
Boolberry (BBR)
Dashcoin (DSH)
duckNote (XDN)
Fantomcoin (FCN)
MonetaVerde (MCN)
OneEvilCoin (OEC)
Quazarcoin (QCN)

Ok. Bytecoin and MonetaVerde out. What about these other coins with mixing transactios? I am still holding only Bitcoin and Monero.

They forgot Infinium 8.  But um...  soooooo many coins.  Endless amounts of them .Wink  I see problems ahead.

But if you like cryptonight, and inflation...

Anonymint is releasing a coin?

Never. But that doesn't mean that I didn't secretly contribute to a coin that is released. I will never tell you.

I for one appreciate your contributions to crypto, especially when they are in the more level headed vein as they have been the last week or so.  I hope you don't mind me pointing it out, but your tone has been far more reasonable recently, and it makes your positions and arguments much easier to navigate and consider.

I would always be interested in what coins you contribute to, and which you feel have serious potential.

But secrecy is your prerogative obviously. Wink
