541  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: URGENT!!! Bitcoin 4.8.3 (0.8.5?) NOT SYNCRONISING!!! on: November 24, 2013, 01:40:48 AM
Qt is 4.8.3 which is the toolkit used for cross-platform GUI basically. Go to help->about bitcoin and make sure that says v0.8.5.

As of my posting the current number of blocks is 271139

go to help->debug window and see what your estimated total blocks shows... you might need to manually add a peer that can give you some blocks you need. There seems to be a bit of a bandwidth shortage with all the new full clients coming online downloading the whole blockchain. I know I upload 40GB/day to this.

Thanks, ok i checked and it is definitely 0.8.5 and as you say it's running on the qt platform 4.8.3 (I didn't realise they where different)

I have been to the debug window but I'm not sure what commands to use to get that info.

when I hover over the bottom right hand corner it tells me that it estimates 271136 is the latest one and still is at block 270914 (now 37 hours behind and no sign of catching up)

Also how to I manually add a peer? can you help in that regard? are you able to share it publicly or would that create more problems for you?

Thanks

543  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / URGENT!!! Bitcoin 0.8.5 NOT SYNCRONISING!!! on: November 23, 2013, 11:47:33 AM
Can anyone tell me is Bitcoin QT 4.8.3 the same as 0.8.5? When I was told I should update my wallet I downloaded the latest 0.8.5 from Bitcoin.org, when I run it and check in the "about qt" section it tells me that it is version 4.8.3. When I check about bitcoin it says it is 0.8.5. Also I have a wallet on a computer that has been running 24 hours a day for weeks. It has a wallet on there that has been up to date for some time, today when I checked it it tells me it is 23 hours behind and it doesn't appear to be updating despite having 8 nodes connected.

At the top it has this written "Warning: Displayed transactions may not be correct! You may need to upgrade, or other nodes may need to upgrade."

Can anyone tell me if this is a new issue of suggest any trouble shooting methods to get syncing to happen again? I'm running windows 7 ultimate with Microsoft Security Essentials and have made an acceptation in the firewall as well as excluding Bitcoin from the checked processes

I've backed up my bitcoin wallet

Thanks

Edit 2 hours later,

I"m effing scared, WTF is happening... now it's 26 hours behind and seems to be stuck at block 270914. It's telling me it's synchronizing and has 8 active connections but this is the same block it was on 2 hours ago!?!?! would someone PLEASE take a look at this.

(I swear when I come across problems like this I wonder if Mr Andreson and his team of "Experts" are trying to ruin BTC from within. This is exactly the problem that the download was supposed to solve)

I have several PC's and have tried downloading the latest version from bitcoin.org on another computer. It says it's version 0.8.5 but when I run it and check in the "about" section i find that it is still version 4.8.3

This is a fresh installation on a computer that's never had a wallet.

The wallet keeps seems to be updating the block chain ok but then periodically just closes itself.

I don't want to shout about these problems, I like the high prices we are seeing right now, but I'm pretty disappointed in the so call "leadership" Gavin and all the bootlickers suck

Edit 12 hours later

I'm now 36 hours behind and still no signs of catching up despite having connections to 8 peers

545  Economy / Service Discussion / Bitmit Closes Realestate and Car sales?!?! on: October 30, 2013, 04:40:34 PM
While it seems there was some concerns that Bitmit would close recently with news directly from Bitmit stating that they may be have to close due to regulations in their (crazy) county.

It now seems the site is not planning on closing, it seems they have removed the real estate and cars sections. This is a HUGE blow to the bitcoin community as it was such a great way to show off the value of bitcoins. Personally I was quiet excited about the possibility of buying a car with bitcoins, and even real estate although I couldn't afford most of them the dream was very real.

I hope we will see Real Estate and Cars being offered in this Bitmit format again soon.

If anyone has news about why Bitmit closed these and/or where they might be available for bitcoin in this format again soon I would love to find some more sites that offer things for Bitcoins in the Bitmit format. (so much better than eBay with escrow and bitcoins)
546  Economy / Economics / Direct Link Between the Cryptocurrency, Gold and Mining Hardware on: August 31, 2013, 04:25:51 AM
Mining Cryptocurrency is the direct connection between the trading value of BTC vs precious metals.  As precious metals are required proportionally to what they can achieve in computing power their necessity requires producers to consider it's value relative to Cryptocurrency

Although I'm confident in my conclusion this has only created more questions that I've not yet been able to answer. If you are involved in the creation of mining chips or have some other evidence with regard to the amount of physical gold required that you are willing to share, I would love to hear your input.

How much silver and gold is required to make the most advanced mining units? Should we measure the mining units actual gold, or it's total value relative to some arbitrary Fiat unit?

Something else to consider

Nice.

I think it would be useful a more detailed chart, from the beginning until 2014

I agree, the drop at the end of 2013 looks frighteningly fast. I'd like to learn more about when this big change will occur. Thanks to the OP for sharing these charts.

I have this same issue and as yet have been unable to come across an examples of the .bat file that will get this to run. I've started a new thread asking similar questions and then found this, sadly it appears to still be unanswered.

550  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Please help a newbie with a compiled version of cgminer (& .bat file advice) on: August 11, 2013, 09:24:32 AM
Hi All, I'm trying to find a compiled version of cgminer (preferably for windows 64bit). Something I can download as a zip file or exe.

Alternatively if anyone could give me some advise on what to put in my .bat file for the cudaminer I already have that downloaded but I've been trying to get that to work all day and it runs but won't connect to anything. If you could suggest some parameters for the .bat file for the cudaminer this would also be helpful.

Thanks.

someone linked me the reddit trouble shooting guide for the bitminter client... I got to step two, clearing the jave cache and cleared the cache for the browser also... this meant I lost the link to the trouble shooter and unfortunately my problem was not solved by steps one or two... could you see if it could be linked on the home page somewhere? even in here it's probably linked somewhere but trying to find it is impossible... I googled "bitminter troubleshooter reddit" and came up with NO reddit pages
552  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Primecoin Val/h rate, how to increase it? on: August 03, 2013, 03:00:35 PM
Mining Primecoin there is a Val/h rate that slowly increases the longer you have it running.

I'm currently mining on two separate computers and it seems the slower computer has faster increasing Val/h rate than the faster computer.

I cannot work out why or how to improve this rate. They are both running identical windows 7 64 bit operating systems and both using the same miner from the yPool website. Any thoughts on what effects the Val/h rate and how to improve it?

thanks
553  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Child Boards for Alt Coins - Should we have them? on: August 03, 2013, 02:28:09 PM
Although I have an interest in quite a number of Alt coins I will always remained involved and interested in BTC.

For this reason this seems like the best forum to stay in touch with the latest developments in ALL the world of cryptocurrency.

Despite this sometimes I find it hard to comprehend the amazing amount of posts in this Alt coin forum everyday

For this reason I'd like to request that we get some child boards for the most popular coins

Please vote in the poll or if your coin of choice is not included then reply in the thread.

Coins have been chosen based on market cap (coinmarketcap.com)

I've made it so you can only vote once so as to give those adding there voice in the forum an equal opportunity.

So you have been mining or have purchased some coins that will fail... Angry

Don't worry, keep your wallet.dat file.   And im sure there will be crypto collectors in 20 years time just looking to buy your wallet.dat file and revive the network with just a mobile phone.  The more crap the coin and the quicker it fails, the more it will be worth.

Year 2033, your 10000 Twatcoins are now worth 100 BTC which is now worth $10,000,000   Cheesy

...  Maybe!  Wink

I love this kind of optimism Smiley

557  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Morality is a guilt trip on: August 02, 2013, 01:06:45 AM
Morality is an attempt to formalize pain and suffering in terms of personal experience. For most of us that includes empathy (unless we are psycho/socio-paths).
Morality is therefore a pain limitation exercise.
This is situational - my situation is comfortable 21st century wealthy healthy and happy. So my moral (pain avoidance) decisions are typically limited to avoiding social embarrassment. The worst I fear is faux pas - using the wrong spoon to eat my soup.
Throw me into a situation of genocide were I kill or be killed and my whole moral universe will change - I will morally justify genocide if it means I survive.

wow, thanks for your interesting input

I'm currently running this with no anti virus and it's working ok but I'd like to have something compatible it there is something.

I'm setting up this account in preparations for some more serious hardware but am currently mining with an old video card. The miner says I'm doing 20 mh/s but the dial still show's zero. This may be normal with such a slow card but It would be nice if you could reassure me of this.

Also the performance for the card shows I should be mining 0.0003 bitcoins/day but the overall performance is showing zero.

Hi,

I'm having a problem with the miner that it just gets to the point where is finished downloading and then gets stuck verifying and doesn't actually start. Is this a new issue or is it something I'm doing wrong?

I'm using windows 7 with firefox, and I have java intalled

thanks
Do you have AVG antivirus?  Disable/uninstall it if you do, then try again...

Haha, what a quick reply Smiley thank you. You are right, I do have AVG, can you recommend a different virus protection that will work with this? thanks again
