and what happens if we reach the cap?

Eventually we 'll reach the limit and there will be no new coins after that.
People though will keep mining for the transaction fees. If this is what you wonder about...

When approximately are we going to reach the limit?
and what do you mean by mining for the transaction fees?

thanks for the answers everyone Smiley

552  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Followup to my intro post: a link to my survey! on: October 16, 2013, 07:40:14 PM
Hi everyone,

It's me again!  I just posted this in the Bitcoin Discussion section of the forum, but in case you didn't see it, my survey is ready!

If you are 18 years old or older and use bitcoin, you are eligible to participate in my survey.  The survey will take about 10-30 minutes to complete, depending on how much time you spend on the open ended questions.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/bitcoinsurvey

If you have any questions for me about the study, I am happy to answer them.  You can post them here, PM me, or you can send me an email at clustig@uci.edu

Thanks for your help!  I am really looking forward to seeing the results of the survey.

Caitie

EDIT: Left out some important info.

I introduced myself in this forum earlier (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=308727.0), but just to introduce myself again, my name is Caitie Lustig and I am a graduate student in the Informatics department at the University of California, Irvine.  This survey is part of my research project on the bitcoin community.  The goal of the survey is to better understand the motivations and values of bitcoin users.

why exactly do we need to be 18 to do this survey? i know a lot of young people who use bitcoins and are much younger than 18.

555  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: trick to raise hashrate with Radeon HD 7850 on: October 15, 2013, 06:00:15 PM
I got a Sapphire Model of that card and I downloaded the Sapphire Trixx overclocking tool..figured I might use the software made for the hardware.

I overclocked the GPU Clock to 1150mhz, but that would end up with blue screens and scary behaviour. Reduced it to 1133mhz and kept the memory clock at 900mhz (also reduced it when I tried 1150/900.

I've read about how one could overclock it to 1200mhz, but I'm afraid it's a cooling problem, my motherboard is a bit cheap...there's only one plug for a chassis fan, this is an older desktop case and it is made to have one fan push air in and one at the top with air out...this was happening before I had to change motherboard due to a fucking electrical problem.

Anyways, I get 340/Mhash second, so far I seem to be the one with the best performance with this model.

I'm gonna buy a 7870 (I understand there is no 7890 and that the crossfire thing allows for different models of the same series (78xx). Or maybe just another 7850, the performance of the 7870 doesn't seem that much better. I gotta find a way to have my top fan functioning...I've seen power cables for hard drives have a split for fans on other desktops before (hell, I think it was the way things were on my old motherboard).

I've made 0,07 in a month...I'm just doing it for fun right now since I have free electricity, but with 2 of those I imagine I'll get a much more worthy use of Diablominer (I almost forgot to mention I use the same miner as you).

If someone could help me out on how to overclock this card in linux i'd be grateful, I expect even better performance in there...I installed all it needed for guiminer to detect it (Pitcairn) in LMDE so..

this post is 1 year old,why bumping?

uhhh who hacked btc talk?  Huh why would someone do this?
557  Economy / Services / Re: Selling my signature on: October 14, 2013, 05:28:10 PM
I think which signature you have good for you no one interested to buy your signature any more  Cheesy
It indeed is useless to try get a better price for your Signature, I think it is amazing we even get something for posts we make, and 50-60 posts is not going to bring you far as much as advertising goes...

Same thing for people who think they can make 2000+ Posts a month, it just is not possible, or you are posting random crap, and even then you are 3 hours a day posting on this forum.

I remember someone made it once,he did 2000 posts in a month and got paid,i'm pretty sure he was spamming all day
