541  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hoax: No Bitcoin ETF approval (yet) on: January 10, 2024, 05:27:13 AM
Well it doesn’t look good going into tomorrow. We got the final deadline for ark. So it’ll be a rejection or they will just approve it.

If they reject it then most people will think that the rest will be rejected also and there will be a massive sell off. Tomorrow is basically the most important day of the year for bitcoin. They can’t delay the ark any further. Even due to this hack news.
542  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SEC Grants Approval For Bitcoin ETFs -- HOAX on: January 10, 2024, 05:25:19 AM
Yeah I read the tweet and was super excited. Then I checked the price and was wondering why it went down after they said it was approved, looked fishy. Then it came out saying it was a hack.

The investigation concluded that they used an account without 2fa. Which is funny because they tell people to use 2fa but they themselves don’t even use it on their important twitter handles. Very badly run operation down there.
543  Economy / Speculation / Re: Signs you should know to take profit from your crypto investment on: January 09, 2024, 05:23:17 AM
One sign that had a 100% rate with me is when my friends and family start asking about bitcoin.

An asset that I never discussed and all of a sudden they want me to buy bitcoin because they think is going to moon. Usually when this happens it’s a few more weeks and then some top.

Same with coinbase being the number 1 app on the AppStore . Usually it peaks around a week or two and the cycle top is in.

Where ever you go and you see people on their phones being on Binance, or coinmarket cap or some other trading app, then you know the top is near.
544  Economy / Speculation / Re: Heading into 2024 crypto year: what are your hopes and fears? on: January 09, 2024, 05:20:37 AM
Honestly my fear is the etf being rejected or denied or if approved it being another sell the news event.

I was around in 2017 when the Winklevoss twins etf was about to get approved. They had tons and tons of meetings with SEC and other financial companies. I remember people would analyse these meetings and say that since “so and so” met it means it has to be approved because why would they meet. People were 99% sure it would be approved and then poof, it was rejected.

If approved my fear is that it’ll be another sell the news event like in the past. The trigger is usually on the week of launch it went up topping and this is pretty much what many are expecting. I don’t think people are thinking this time will be different.
545  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mempool and Spam Transactions LOL on: January 09, 2024, 05:15:46 AM
Keep in mind one thing when looking at that explorer. Even if it shows many min transactions confirming at 30 sat/Vbyte it doesn’t mean yours will confirm even if you have the same fee. You gotta add 5-10 sats extra and it’ll confirm in a few hours.

I did a few 40 sat/vbyte transactions today and one confirmed very quick but the other took all day even with the exact same fee. There is no guarantee that it will fill soon.
546  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So Who Owed Satoshi Money? on: January 09, 2024, 05:12:31 AM
I keep seeing this being discussed over and over again. People are making a big deal about satoshi having to dox himself due to the irs rules. When in fact it doesn’t matter because those funds will never be moved.

Even if he is still alive he probably has tons and tons of 50 BTC coinbase transactions he can spend which are further away from the genesis block and make it less risky to be linked to his mining laptop.

547  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: MiningRigRentals ASIC rental on: January 08, 2024, 05:30:32 AM
I remember miningrigrentals from the old days. I actually didn’t like it because you had to monitor the hashrate you bought. Unlike Nicehash , sometimes the miner would crash and the only way to tell would be to Monitor your workers.

Then you had to file a dispute and you would get a partial refund. I am sure on ASIC it’s more stable since they rarely crash compared to GPUs but it’s still something you should keep an eye on to make sure you get your moneys worth for the rental.
548  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Just inherited 100 RX 470 8GB cards and may have access to free electricity. on: January 08, 2024, 05:27:23 AM
If you want to prevent theft you need to conceal your gear. I remember years ago some bitcoin miner had probably hundreds of those bitcoin usb flash miners in his apartment. And he left his window and blinds open. And during the day was fine but at night there was nothing but hundreds of LEDs flashing. Eventually I think someone called the cops and they paid him a visit. The moral of the story is you need to hide your gear.

If you leave your window open wide and show your Neighbour all your gpus you might become a target since everyone things that crypto people are rich. Just use common sense.
549  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum: send transactions status Unconfirmed after 12 hours on: January 08, 2024, 05:14:52 AM
I am surprised that you somehow managed to get a transaction with a fee so low to even broadcast. I used to use via BTC and I used 10 sat/byte and I almost never could get the transaction broadcasted by electrum. I had to manually go to a block explorer and broadcast the raw transaction there. The fact that you managed to get one being 1sat is very surprising.

Just need to right click on the transaction in electrum, and click Increase fee and use 40-50 sat instead of 1 and it’ll confirm in a few hours. Keep in mind if you don’t have RBF enabled then you will have to wait for it to drop it from the mempool or do CPFP but I don’t think that is necessary in this case. Try and increase fee first and if you get an error let us know and we will do CPFP instead.
550  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What if The Bitcoin Blockchain Stalls And Stops Producing Blocks? on: January 08, 2024, 05:01:26 AM
Yeah this is not unheard of. I remember once long time ago when I was doing a p2P meet, we did the transaction and it took 1 hour to confirm. We just kept talking about bitcoin and blockchain.

However you need to understand 10 minutes is just the average and it can have variance. Sometimes there is a block found and a few seconds later another block is found, usually that one is empty. That’s just how the network operates and it’s completely normal.
551  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Revoke Contracts for ZkSync network? on: January 07, 2024, 04:46:34 PM
Wondering if there is a service such as

https://etherscan.io/tokenapprovalchecker

But for the ZkSync network, I went to their main block explorer at

https://explorer.zksync.io/

However they have nothing similar available. Looking at the block explorer for my transactions how can I tell which granted "allow to spend" is it those which are labelled as "Self"? The Zksync block explorer is very minimal and hard to navigate compared to ARB or POLY.
552  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ViaBTC free slots available [1 Jan 2024] on: January 07, 2024, 05:46:38 AM
How do I find out the virtual size or the weight of the transaction? In my electrum client it doesn’t show it, even in the block explorer it doesn’t show the virtual size or weight of the transaction?

For years I always took the size in bytes and looked at the mempool and used the sat/byte fees to calculate an optimal fee. Didn’t realize i was suppose to look at the virtual size chart instead.
553  Economy / Speculation / Re: Release of Non-Farm payroll (NFP) on: January 07, 2024, 05:43:42 AM
It sometimes is correlated to certain types of news events. Basically the fed rate, inflation rate and sometimes the employment numbers will have an effect on bitcoin. However they need to be substantial compared to the expected value.

For example if the inflation numbers come in hot, then we will see a sell off in stocks and bitcoin will correlate and sell off also. Hence why stocks and crypto peaked when rates started to go up due to inflation being too high. Employment numbers would have an effect if they were very very low or very very high from the Estimate. Say tons of people lost their jobs, then it would be bullish somewhat because it means fed might cut rates quicker.
554  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the bull run begun ? on: January 07, 2024, 05:37:01 AM
I think the bull market began when we first heard about this Blackrock ETF. Right now I wouldn’t say it’s beginning. Maybe we are in the middle of it or even towards the end.

Keep in mind that many are expecting the etf approval to be an sell the news event just like the previous bitcoin futures, coinbase ICOs and bitcoin futures etf. And that is if it’s approved. This Wednesday it’s possible the Ark etf might get rejected and next week all those etfs might get delayed. If this happens we might visit $30K area fairly quickly.
555  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ViaBTC free slots available [1 Jan 2024] on: January 06, 2024, 10:12:14 PM
With the ETF most likely approved next week, we will be forced to pay 200 sat/byte in fees.
ETF-users don't need on-chain transactions. The change in spammer-strategy is still visible: anything above 30 sat/vbyte can now get confirmed. It looks like the Ordinal spammers are no longer trying to compete for the highest fees, but they've set a minimum fee now.

Judging by the fact that this changed suddenly, it looks like there's only one person (or one group of people) behind all Ordinal spam!

This might sound like a complete noob question but why is the other chart showing the sat/btye sitting at 40 sat/byte while the weight is sitting at 30 sat/vbyte. I always looked at the sat/byte when choosing a manual fee. Do I just look at sat/vbyte for now?

From my segwit and non segwit transactions, the fees seems exactly the same when you take the fee and divide it by the total amount of bytes. Never understood this.
556  Economy / Services / Re: FREE/PAY BITCOIN TRANSACTION ACCELERATOR on: January 06, 2024, 10:03:27 PM
Hey I sent you a DM, i hope you accept DM.

I sent my TX ID over and hope you can accelerate this one transaction because I created it and broadcasted it before I found out that VIABTC is impossible to use anymore.

Thanks so much for this service.
557  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sudden Flash Crash vs Slow Bleed - Which actually kills Investor(s)? on: January 06, 2024, 04:51:57 AM
What kills most investors in crypto or even stock markets are the slow bleeds.

Reason why is because generally alot of investors keep averaging down, and they have a horrible average and huge position even the stock/crypto still keeps dipping. Eventually what will happen they won't be able to take the pain anymore and they will just sell. Or they will just sell out of boredom.

Most investors don't use high leverage or stop losses where flash crashes would cause the most financial damage. Most position type of traders would be fine in a flash crash.
558  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone just sent 26 BTC to genesis block address on: January 06, 2024, 04:49:31 AM
Here is what is strange. I remember a year ago something similar happened because I made a thread about it on Bitcointalk. And get this, someone sent 4 BTC about a year ago, it was on January 8th 2023, at the time this was around $65K or something around that number.  I found it strange.

Now about a year later and someone else in January also sends a large amount to Satoshi. Honestly these bitcoins are pretty much gone for good because I don't think they will ever be moved.
559  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ViaBTC free slots available [1 Jan 2024] on: January 05, 2024, 11:17:08 PM
Didn't even realize its down to 20 spots, I would refresh at the start of the hour and the total accelerated count would go up by 20-30 transactions and the free spots would be zero. Tried a few times and the same result.

With 100 spots I guess we had a chance but with only 20, I guess its pretty much not even worth trying. Any other free transaction accelerator anywhere? Seems like most are scams.

With the ETF most likely approved next week, we will be forced to pay 200 sat/byte in fees.
560  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Inverse Cramer Strikes Again on: January 05, 2024, 06:14:38 AM
He always had bad stock picks. I remember he ended up going on some talk show after the global financial crisis and was basically called out because he gave horrible stock tips and people ended up losing everything.

His most famous prediction was that Lehman Brothers are fine and then a few days later they were bankrupt. People listened to him and put their entire life savings in his stock picks and ended up with nothing pretty much.
