541  Economy / Speculation / Re: What happens if bitcoin price hits 6 figures and up? on: December 02, 2023, 09:21:01 AM
Yes the thing is the amount of people who own btc and buy or sell it is very low.  However, if there becomes too many millionaires out there... like with btc going to 7 figures... how would this affect inflation?  How would this affect people who don't own crypto?
<cut>

This question makes some broad assumptions.  The economy is complicated.  Prices going up and down happens for all kinds of reasons - how much money governments print, supply chains getting interrupted, wars... stuff like that.  Just because some new folks strike it rich with Bitcoin doesn't automatically mean your grocery bill doubles next week.  Its not as direct as that and  things can influence inflation sure, but it's complex how it all trickles down.

Bitcoin's been around a while now, and even with the huge price spikes we've seen, there still aren't too many millionaires from people buying and hodling.  Thats because there's a limited amount of bitcoin out there - in order for one person to buy, someone else has to sell.  So even if we see bitcoin hit that $1 million+ price target someday (wild I know!), we still probably won't have like a crazy number of new crypto millionaires.  There will be some, sure, but there's gotta be sellers to match the buyers.  The supply is finite.

Možeš malo pojasnit kako i di ovo provjeravaš?

545  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: someone pays 83.65 $BTC ($3,136,058) in transaction fees, overpaying by 120,258 on: December 01, 2023, 08:32:29 AM
now the miner (in this case antpool) has come forward and wants to refund the 83BTC to the victimized user
however, the miner would have to fulfill certain requirements in order to be able to prove the identity of the previous owner of the 83BTC

he would have to use Electrum or Bitcoin Core as a wallet and sign the message 'AntPool' using the pk of the bc1qn3d7vyks0k3fx38xkxazpep8830ttmydwekrnl address and send the output as signed text by e-mail to the support
here is the official announcement:

I saw a message from Antpool on twitter and was kinda surprised at how simple their requirements are for proving ownership of that address.  You'd think they would wanna be more careful, considering the situation.  A hacker/scammer can also sign an address. But I guess they either don't fully get or care that the private key is likely out there with multiple parties who could sign that address if they wanted and  that level of proof doesn't seem nearly good enough to me for this particular case.
546  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 139btc I'm looking for the owner, it's important! on: December 01, 2023, 08:20:47 AM
I'm not so sure we should trust the original poster here.  It seems a bit sketchy that he's asking for money in exchange for info that could help the victim get their funds back.  Makes me wonder if he's the actual scammer trying to double dip.  Some folks here said the signatures checked out, but that dont mean much.  Saw a tweet saying this guy ain't the only one with the keys.

I'd likely delete all comments or threads with threats, hate speech, or incitement to violence.  Those kinda cross the line from free speech into infringing on others' rights.  I'd forward those posts to the main mods for penalties if that stuff pops back up. Freedom of speech is not without its boundaries. As a mod you have some duty to make sure people don't use their individual freedoms to infringe upon the rights and well-being of others.
548  Other / Meta / Re: DT system is centalized or decentralized? Poll on: November 30, 2023, 01:53:40 PM
I guess it depends on whether you're looking from an individual perspective or the whole system. The way I see it, the Trust System is decentralized for people using the forum.  Each user can change their own trust lists however they want, adding or removing members as they please and  this shapes how they view trust feedback on their end.  But zooming out to look at everything you could say parts of it are still kinda centralized.  There's central authority that can boot members from DT1, although they still have the right to vote.

How can decentralized decision making be instantaneous? Only a centralized decision can be so instantaneous

That is not correct. The Bitcoin system is decentralized and operates on a consensus mechanism, allowing for near-instantaneous decision-making. This decision-making process occurs approximately every ten minutes, resulting in block confirmations and subsequent updates to the Bitcoin ledger.

Nisam najbolje shvatio tu objavu.

Dosta hitra intervencija admina.
550  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Pregled Bitcointalk Signature-Ad kampanja on: November 30, 2023, 09:21:25 AM

I request everyone to remove their bio information (Signature, avatar and personal info).
It's bed time for me and I had a long day. For some obvious reasons it was not one of those usual day for me but it is what it is.
If I hear anything from Sinbad management then I may share any info which everyone should know.

I will count the posts after I wake up tomorrow and pay everyone for the eligible posts.

It was a pleasure working with everyone in this project.

Cheers,
551  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Novosti on: November 30, 2023, 08:55:24 AM

A cryptocurrency mixing service is not necessarily illegal.

553  Economy / Reputation / Re: . on: November 29, 2023, 08:38:47 AM
OP, fyi, I edited my trust, as I said I would. I must say, I'm not exactly thrilled that you jump to the rant station, mention names, and then delete everything before I have a chance to respond.

I'm sorry you're disappointed, but I'm not sure what you really expected to happen here.  As you could have noticed, only a few members were actually interested in this discussion and spent time reading through your walls of text. If nothing else, you should respect that.

From the very beginning, everyone advised you on what steps to take,  and that we can't just accept your word without valid evidence. Using accounts on other platforms can't be considered sufficient proof, and, as you mentioned yourself, those accounts can change names or be hacked and what not. In this community, the only acceptable proofs are either posting with your old account or signing a previously used wallet address. I'm sure you'd appreciate that if the situation were reversed, someone falsely claiming of being your alt account.

But you were persistent and ignored all the advice which ultimately led to your current frustration. Now that you've reactivated your old account, you'll see that none of the negative predictions will come to pass, no one will tag your account for no reason, which will prove you were wrong.
554  Other / Meta / Re: Can a merit source re-start Ratimov merit threads. on: November 28, 2023, 03:07:46 PM
So, what you need next? every merit source has it's own policy, rule or subjectivity to merit someone post.

What is your point exactly?
If any merit source decides to open a similar thread like this one, does it defy any policy or rule. Will it be a bad idea if any merit source decides to open such a thread, even if there are similar threads.. Or do you like to counter every possible idea?

Seems like he made his point clear and basically answered your questions already.  It's not like Ratimov kicked off the first merit-sharing thread here, and he likely won't be the last one either.  So pretty obviously there ain't exactly rules against people starting up these kinds of threads if they want, regardless of whether they are merit sources or not.
555  Economy / Reputation / Re: AI Spam Report Reference Thread on: November 28, 2023, 01:00:17 PM
What do you make of this user: bayu7adi

The post that caught my attention:

Sure, here's a more straightforward and youth-friendly version:

You know, there are a few ways to do Bitcoin transactions without using the internet. It's explained here: [Info] Transactions and Broadcasting Bitcoin without Internet.

But, let's face it, the internet plays a huge role and we're all pretty hooked on it. Our jobs are mostly online now, and even if the internet disappeared, we'd go back to the days of regular phone calls and texts for communication. It would be like stepping back in time, and that would mess with the economy big time. Everyone would feel the impact, and it sounds like a total nightmare.

Would everyone die without the internet? Definitely not. People used to live in a time without the internet (before it existed, of course), and it wasn't a big deal. It's just that some of our stuff would be messed up, and there would be chaos that we couldn't control.

In particular, this part, "Sure, here's a more straightforward and youth-friendly version," gives me the impression that the content is generated by AI. However, when I run the text through AI detectors, only sapling.ai gives a positive result.

Sorry to bother you once again. Do you know which country Blockstream Jade ships from?
They ship worldwide (with few exceptions), but they have many certified local resellers, and you can find them all on checkout page.
You can also buy and used cheaper M5Stack or TTGO T-Display device and load firmware yourself with instructions from their github page:
https://github.com/Blockstream/Jade

To be very honest, I don't have a lot of patience and time to study this scenario.
I always prefer to buy from the official website. I just wanted to know which country of origin they send the order from. I'm from the EU, and you already know that you have to pay customs for anything that comes from outside.

According to the shipping information on their web store and this reddit post, they ship from the US. Since you said you are from the EU, it might be best to look for one of the certified local resellers.

558  Other / Archival / Re: Sinbad.io Mixer - secure, fast and easy to use on: November 28, 2023, 10:09:38 AM
I completely agree that placing a sign that the service is currently under maintenance and that it will be reactivated after several hours would be appropriate with providing access for users who have pending transactions related to how their transactions are executed at that time.

I think the current behavior is understandable if they are making major changes such as renaming the service and stopping the current service.

No matter what kinds of changes you're making to your website, it's better to put up a coming soon or under construction message instead of just showing people some generic error saying the site is unavailable.  If someone sees that error out of nowhere, they might get frustrated and not want to come back later.  The pro web developers know you gotta keep giving folks a good experience, even when you're working on stuff behind the scenes.
559  Economy / Reputation / Re: Please tag my old account (98789) on: November 27, 2023, 07:51:41 AM
Of course I could reset it because I have my old email (the one I said is almost full, because I have used it for years), but that is what I say would be shady.

After a long period of inactivity, that would actually be normal. This is shady.

Quote
I doubt I would be allowed to stake a new BTC address under those conditions, people will (for good reason) assume I am a hacker and instantly give me negative feedback.

That's not true. You would only receive negative feedback (maybe) if you applied for a loan or started some drama (like you're doing now).

Quote
Thank you to anyone commenting, especially the ones who are actually contributing (giving ideas and at least reading/paying attention to what I write).

You're welcome. I get why you felt the need to say all that, but really it was just causing more drama than it was worth.  Your walls of text aren't really helping, either. At the end of the day, you had a simple fix available from the start - just log into your original profile and tag yourself if having that connection matters to you.  Or you could've gone a totally fresh route with a brand new profile, no mention of the old one.  But it seems like you were set on making some kind of weird power play to prove...  and well I don't even know what really.  And now you're acting all shocked that people arent just taking your word for it? I mean c'mon, we see people pulling stunts here all the time.
560  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: The story of Betnomi.com (Exit Scam) on: November 26, 2023, 06:42:28 PM
Interestingly, he seems to have scrubbed all mentions of the "Nomi Labs Co-Founder" from his online profiles. Looks like he's trying to distance himself from that company, even though the entire Betnomi platform was birthed under that brand. What's he trying to hide or play down?
I can't recall it properly whether 'Nomi Labs Co-Founder' was mentioned in his profile or not. But it is true that Betnomi has come from Nomi Labs. And Sorsis is one of the owners of Nomi Labs.

It was. I'm sure of that. Unfortunately, I failed to archive his LinkedIn profile at the time, but I mentioned it here. Regardless, the connection between Betnomi and Nomi Labs is indeed noteworthy, and you can still find confirmation that Sorsis is one of the owners of Nomi Labs through various Google caches. For instance, if you search for images using the query "Sorsis Chatwin Nomi Labs," you'll find traces of his promotional posts for Nomi Labs on his LinkedIn, though they have all been deleted now:

https://www.google.com/search?q=Sorsis+Chatwin+Nomi+Labs

Also, in cached versions of some other websites, like for example here:
