542  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-04-17] CoinTelegraph - BitPay Reveals (Good) Reason Why BTC Price Is Down on: April 21, 2015, 11:14:14 PM
Supply and demand do dictate markets
It's a good decrease since it means their is foundational stability for the protocol
But that said it is not fun to see your Bitcoins worth less even if you know its good news in the long run.

544  Other / Meta / Re: FREE GIVEAWAY!!! on: April 21, 2015, 10:56:01 PM
@forum mods, I was gonna report this thread as being in the wrong sectiong (games and rounds) based on the subject.  But since the body isn't actually a a giveway, is it actually in the wrong section?  FWIW, I can't tell what the OP is actually talking about so maybe it's just spam or whatever.

My guess would be the OP posted a giveaway and had it deleted, and now is venting.

That is likely spot on, most likely didn't read the rules on Giveaways in the sticky's and now is whining about it
545  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Police Force Quits After Black Woman Elected Mayor on: April 21, 2015, 10:52:25 PM
That is a strange piece of news
For a population of 700 it's easy enough to know every other person in the town
So in my opinion safety concerns is a bullshit excuse to leave the force, or they were corrupt and didn't want the evidence unveiled.
(Or the mayor is evil but that would be a twist lol)
546  Other / Meta / Re: How to get non-contributing users from cluttering a thread on: April 21, 2015, 10:50:20 PM
A section on the threads that just lets you add yourself as "I was here" to be a part of the discussion may clean up the real thread for people who truly have something meaningful to say.

In essence the (this thread has been monitored by X users listing panel)
With a list of people observing the thread and their names in a list
(Sort of like the Who's Online feature that some boards use)

To answer your question in my opinion it adds a signficant bloat to the page, as there are a lot of users here a +1 function could do the job but then it needs to save the list of users if you want to find your own.

So while it does seem interesting it would be impractical to use for the utility you get from it.
547  Economy / Securities / Re: AMHash1: Cost-Effective Mining Contract on: April 21, 2015, 10:45:30 PM

I think Hashnest will definitely be there, or there be none... Bit-x looks promising too, they are number two on the list that be here in 1-2 years Wink

Well with Bit-X they have more features debit cards mining etc.
Plus a fairly long running signature campaign so they may be around for a while yet.
And it's good that the liquidation fund is working even if its a fraction of the asset.
548  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [Vote] Who did 911? on: April 21, 2015, 10:43:34 PM
The US did it indirectly by funding a certain group in the Middle East
Then having that group from Afghanistan come back and bite them in the arse.
(Referring to the war in afghanistan with Russian involvment)
Then the spiral that came after that.

550  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 21, 2015, 10:20:30 PM
That looks like a scam email to me.

'Ameet'

I agree, looking at the e-mail it seems fishy
Not a nigerian scammer level but of the I'll just avoid this for now until more information is available
551  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-04-14] Guardian: Paedophiles sell child abuse images for bitcoin on: April 17, 2015, 10:45:21 AM
It's no different than any other currency, the mechanism can change but anything with a value can be traded.
Its digital but you need to have a technical level as well to use it.
Quite the complex network though hacked servers + spam mail to get to the source material not commonly seen elsewhere in any form of operation logistics.
Reading the IMF report I guess the bloom filter on porn and flat chests in the UK is highly effective looking at the 2014 2013 numbers the false positives do number about 25% in gross numbers around 10,000+ cases though.

I'm against all backdoors set into software by default
The maxim innocent until proven guilty should stand even in the digital age, otherwise we take steps towards becoming a survalience state.
The basic human rights are being disregarded. I don't like anyone even looking at my phone at all. Those are the things that should be kept private even though I regularly delete everything.
The US is already almost a surveillance state.
That and all the policing incidents regarding minorites in general under the pretenses of justice such as the recent shot in the back several times then planting a gun incident in the news recently are making the US more of a survalience and military state, it is very concering to see the militarization of police forces around the United States due to all the surplus gear that the military has and makes for a bad precedent for the rest of the world to follow, if they choose to do so.

A cop with a taser a pistol and maybe some teargas and cuffs is far more approachable than one dressed in Full SWAT gear and always on the lookout for a riot, keeping the perception of safety while not scaring the civilian populace is something the police have been lacking more lately.

So this is the price users have to pay for using their "regulated" exchange/wallet? Welcome to the "paypal" of bitcoin Smiley

It's the power of concentration it is a tad concerning
However as long as their is sufficient choice and competition developed to complete against Bitpay their is a good chance of avoiding the monopoly trap.

I prefer the "they can't regulate bitcoin" option that lured me to it to begin with. So where are options for 100% privacy?

Coinmixers or localbitcoins I guess, that or a Bitcoin ATM that is not KYC/AML if you can find one operating.
Initially the main issue is getting a signifcant amount of coins, guess if your Canadian could use a service like quickbt, get a few dumb phones with dispoable numbers and load up that way, might be a bit hard to use interac though.
554  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: #BitcoinSurvey First Interim Report on: April 14, 2015, 05:24:17 AM
Interesting survey findings. I can't believe how many people are using faucets regularly. They are a waste of time and more money can be gained by doing something else.
I'm also surprised the the low number of Bitcoin Core users. I fall into that rare category.

I remember some student that was running some survey or something for her phd. It's been almost a year I think since that has happened. Did we ever receive any results here?

Well with the faucets they likely include game ones like Yabtcl where people might just generate numbers for fun on their lotto simulator or Primedice if people level that up.
The specification of which faucet was not asked to my knowledge.
As for Bitcoin Core Users they are decreasing in number and nodes simply because they are signifcant memory horders with around 20 GB dedicated space for Core to run required, shifting people to the lightweight clients.
(Sadly no news on ultimate blockchain compression yet to make it more attactive)

As for that student and his PHD survey, I forgot his username but that is an interesting question, he might have but I missed it so someone would need to correct me on that.
555  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: the cat did it [Karpeles found 650 000 BTC] on: April 14, 2015, 05:18:06 AM
It looks like user submitted content and not actual reporting.

Same as Zimbabway declaring BTC as official currency.

Relax Smiley

Regards

Well at least this wasn't put into the Press Section
Imagines all the rage at a joke article being put in there.
556  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is this the end of bitcoin? on: April 14, 2015, 05:15:19 AM
Right now it's the end of the old infrastructure, we will see if btc dies with it
In a sense this is an interesting view of the issue
The infrastructure developing now and the decentralized networks to replace them later, relatively it is the end of at least one architecutre even if it was only to be a piecemeal solution for later technology.

558  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Exchanges Too Invasive. Options? on: April 14, 2015, 05:05:09 AM
The reason is that regulation and legal aspects of Bitcoin and trading them with Fiat, tax laws etc. are still in limbo in most of the countries and the exchanges want to keep their ass safe in case shit happens.

So they want to follow all kinds of KYC policies.

The real solution is decentralized exchanges that no one controls. There is some progress being done on that, but it is still far from fully functional.

http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/21513/how-would-a-decentralised-exchange-work
https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/2015-year-decentralized-bitcoin-exchange/
https://bitsquare.io/

Decentalized exchanges are the way to go it's a pity it will take a while longer yet for these to develop. Centralized locations of commerce and trade while meant to provide ease of use, are creating serious constrictions in the flow of money and in my opinion the adoption of Bitcoin, all those steps and the time it takes to acquire Bitcoins makes it relatively unattractive to the less committed user.
