541  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Satoshi will ever spend his bitcoins? on: August 07, 2014, 12:38:30 AM
I don't think he is going to use them. The system is not anonymous enough and he has too many to use a mixer effectively.

Maybe if Tor wasn't under suspicion of being compromised he could use his coins to run an anonymous mixer (coins come in, get mixed around with his) providing him with some anonymity but that also would draw legal attention for laundering.

I think it will be his next of kin that ultimately benefit.

it's not like he has to mix them all. he can just cash out a million or two. but i don't know if it's going to happen either way. safest way to go about is maybe donate the coins to a charitable organization.. he can't be caught doing that.

Cashing out some has too much chance of a DoX resulting in criminal targeting. e.g. someone kidnaps a niece for bitcoin ransom.

Remember that if he is in the US any sizeable withdrawal requires reporting to government by whatever exchange is used.
there are several ways he could cash out semi small amounts with leaking his identity. Mainly through the use of mixers and local trades.
542  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: New iOS wallet called Bither supporting both online and offline use on: August 06, 2014, 03:50:21 AM
btw all ios devices are backdoored..so this is kind of stupid

It's a rumor  Wink
Apple does have the ability to force you to upgrade an app or to download and install a new version of an app so they could easily put in some kind of backdoor in any new version. They can also force an app to be deleted from your phone although this is rare.

The biggest problem is that the version you download from the App Store cannot be inspected in any way and is sandboxed.
543  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Reddit user is claiming to be a whistleblower from the Federal Reserve... on: August 06, 2014, 03:38:33 AM
I would personally think he is full of it. It is very unlikely IMO that someone who "blow the whistle" on reddit. It is just not the kind of forum that you can easily show proof. It would be much more effective if he were to go to congress or go to the MSM who could verify his story but keep his identity private.
544  Other / Politics & Society / Re: New evidence suggests Israel shelling of UN school was staged on: August 06, 2014, 03:18:31 AM
Now read the update on the articles you've posted as reference Hint: "No it wasn't".

It was proven with evidences that the attack did really happen, and UNRWA people were present when the attack happens, and being the UN representer in the Middle East or Ban ki Moon the general secretary of the UN condemned the attacks after checking all the factual evidence.
Not like it was the first refuge to be shelled anyway.
Even if the shelling of the school was not staged (I personally do not think it was), it is still a fact that the terrorists are keeping bombs, and rockets inside schools and hospitals so Israel looks bad when they attack places housing these war items.
Hammas is very good at propaganda and making Israel look very bad, at least on paper. I have also read they have gotten citizens to go to their roofs when they receive texts saying their house is about to get bombed to try to get the IDF not to bomb the house. They are really doing nothing kore the using their citizens as human shields.
545  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is it a bad decision to payoff mortgage early on: August 06, 2014, 02:57:52 AM
i should have just kept the mortgage. i know im gonna kick myself a few years from now when interest rate goes back up.

I originally planned to keep the mortgage while saving up cash for down payment of the next property. but it hurts to see 4.4% mortgage interest going out the window every month while a bunch of cash is sitting doing nothing in the 0.5% saving account. so i chickened out and decided to pay off this mortgage first. now i have $150k sitting there doing nothing.
It was probably better that you paid off your mortgage. You no longer have this debt hanging over your head that would force you to do work that you may not like tomorrow but have to do to keep your house. If something were to happen that would cause your income to drop (get sick, get laid off ect) the you would not need to worry about having a mortgage to pay.

Impersonally think this piece of mind is worth a lot.
546  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Best place in America to rape 12 year-old girls on: August 06, 2014, 02:38:26 AM
I think the OP is somewhat biased. I should start by saying that I very much think that rape is wrong on many levels and raping young girls is much worse.

It should be noted that the lies are mere allegations.

It is also important to note that jail is not always the answer to a person who has committed a crime. A long jail sentence is going to burden society who has to bear the cost of keeping this person in jail. If a person can be rehabilitated in some kind of rehab program or otherwise then the person has the possibility of contributing to society in the long run ( as well as the short run ). I admit that this is likely not an appropriate sentence for lost repasts however for some it may be.

Another thing that needs to be taken into consideration is the amount of evidence against the defendant. If there little evidence that would convict someone then the prosecutor may offer a lesser charge and or a less sentence in exchange for a guilty plea.
547  Economy / Economics / Re: Loans in BTC on: August 06, 2014, 02:15:20 AM
Bitcoins in my opinion is really not the right currency to be able to allow loans. I personally feel that trying anything like this with bitcoins could lead to a lot more ways to end up being scammed.
This is very true because it is impossible to force someone to repay a loan using bitcoin. The closest thing you can do to forcefully recover your loaned bitcoin would be to get a judgment on the borrower (if you know his real identity) and have the courts seize his fiat assets and convert that fiat back into btc.
548  Economy / Economics / Re: Solution to poverty - Socialism or Capitalism? on: August 06, 2014, 02:05:20 AM
"Socialism or Capitalism?"

Not a lot of difference between the two in reality. Both rife with corruption and greed. Money is always funnelled to the already rich and powerful in both cases. The poor stay poor.
There is a huge difference between socialism and capitalism. With capitalism you have opportunities to climb the economic ladder if you are smart and work hard. With capitalism everyone has a fair chance to succeed. With socialism everyone gets the same amount of resources (money) regardless of how much/hard you work.
549  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Argentina the cyprus of 2014? on: August 06, 2014, 01:55:31 AM
This is about Argentina defaulting on its bonds.  Bonds are denominated in USD so they can't print pesos to get out of mess.   Not comparable to Cyprus situation.  Cypriots bought bitcoin because imposed bank holiday

Stop thinking everything is good for bitcoin.  LOL  Roll Eyes

If Argentinians could buy USD, they would.
Depends on whether BTC is easier to lay hands on, or USD.
In the end, it could be good for bitcoin.

Did you read the story?   Agentina is defaulting on some bonds.   What does this have to go people converting their currency

The link is Argentina defaults --> Harder to get external credit --> More printing of pesos --> High Inflation.
In the end, people will have to look after themselves, if their pesos get devalued very quickly.

The bonds are denominated in USD though.   Plus they're already having inflation problems.   Why would they print more pesos?   If anything they'll go back to pegging their currency or they'll go to IMF and be forced to follow whatever IMF reccomends

For regular Argentinian people I think they have already been buying USD but the govt placed  limitation in Jan.

I'm gonna ask my Argentinian friend about it.   I don't think in times of crisis most people will suddenly start speculating.   I think they seek stability
This does work somewhat however the more pesos that are printed the less effective this becomes as this would cause a sell off in pesos.

I seriously doubt that the IMF will bail out Argentina as they are really too big of a country for the IMF to lend to. The IMF usually lends to countries with very small economies that never had access to capital markets while Argentina has had access to the capital markets.

551  Other / Meta / Re: is selling database of people with credit cards allowed here in bitcointalk? on: August 05, 2014, 10:41:43 PM
It is a criminal offense to sell credit card numbers.
I don't think the OP is trying to sell the credit card numbers, but rather the identities of the people who have credit cards.

Although not as illegal I still think doing this would be against the law and not allowed on these forums.
552  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Off exchange bulk deals on: August 05, 2014, 10:39:34 PM
If you are able to buy at least 25 BTC then you can use the second market investment trust. I think that you would probably need to keep your coins in the trust though.

I would imagine that they would have a similar minimum amount to sell them them, but I have not seen an official minimum for this.
553  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin arbitrage, pros and cons, experience and profitability on: August 05, 2014, 10:34:00 PM
Hey guys, we invite you to test arbitrage on our trading platform. As far as we one of the few services that let people purchase bitcoins & litecoins with a credit card, we have rather more buyers than sellers. Thats why our price is usually higher than on the major exchanges Wink
After you sell cryptocurrency, you can withdraw money to Okpay.

This doesn't make any sense. Most sites that sell bitcoin via a Credit Card actually sell bitcoin and are not actually an exchange. The difference in the exchange rate is profit for the site in exchange for taking the risk of credit card fraud.
554  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: mining with smartphone on: August 05, 2014, 10:25:57 PM
Latest smartphone can be using for mining but only 1 or 2 kh/s. This is too low I know but what about 100.000 smartphone. Especially If you are using Android phone be careful while you are downloading free games or application. Don't forget, "If product is free, now you're product"
If you were to mine any coin (including bitcoin) with your smart phone at this hashrate, you would likely use more electricity then the value of the coins you produce, while damaging your phone in the process.

What browser are you using?
556  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: facuet owners are starting to lose money on: August 05, 2014, 10:18:37 PM
Faucet owners make money from advertisements. So anytime that you visit their site to collect BTC they will earn money. Overall running a faucet is not very profitable as they likely make very little per visitor, but they do make something.
557  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just received a lot of core I7 computers, what to do next ?? on: July 26, 2014, 05:11:34 PM
Anyone who would load unauthorized software on every computer they set up is not a "valued" member of staff....  Any IT has to sign a policy at a campus job guaranteed to include not to abuse it like this.

Ultimately they WOULD catch on, and they then will want to find how it happened and take it off all of the computers.  Add cost of investigation, and cost of removing software the could be a LOT more then mining profit's from CPU mining.

I suggest looking into club route still.  You might be able to be adviser and get student's involved.   School support would go a long ways.

It's interesting when people claim that they never promised not to do a specific thing. And then you show them the Terms of use they agreed to, complete with their signature, they become silent.
A lot of people also sign agreements, and agree to TOS without even glancing at what they are agreeing to.
558  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Getting paid for signature space? on: July 26, 2014, 04:57:15 PM
trust me you need to post a grip to get any btc around on this forum.

And thats if those posts are approved, which most dont go through since its counted as spam.

That's true most have to be constructive. which is very hard to meet the minimum amount for that month. It's only a little bit of Bitcoin but anything is better than nothing really.

So is there an easy to know threshold of what's considered spam vs. constructive? Would this question/post be considered spam even though I'm asking a genuine question?
It depends on the campaign. I think a lot of OPs from sig campaigns are pretty liberal about what is constructive. Generally speaking the post must contribute to the conversation in some way. Other campaigns have more restrictions as to what is considered "constructive"
559  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 51% problem still existant after all coins have been mined ? on: July 26, 2014, 04:48:30 PM
But if the majority will stop mining and miner hardware will get very cheap it should be extremely easy to get control over 51% mining power then ?

Some will keep mining for tx fees. Some will keep mining to keep bitcoin alive. Some will mine for fun. Smiley
I think the only reason people will mine will be for financial reasons. Hopefully by this time the amount of TX fees will be enough so that miners will be able to cover all of their costs.
560  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please tell me if my computer will be ok for mining or not on: July 26, 2014, 04:46:26 PM
Bitcoin can only be profitably mined with specialized ASIC equipment so forget about mining Bitcoin with that setup unless you want to buy an ASIC.

I would assume the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro isn't too bad. I remember it was absolutely the best card that money could buy back in 2003. It might be possible to mine GPU coins with it but I'm not sure how it stacks up with newer generation cards which probably now far outclass it. Might be worth a shot though.

Perhaps you could try mining CPU coins too. Your processor doesn't seem too terrible but I doubt you would see a profit when other people are using far more powerful/efficient i5s and i7s to mine. Here is a list of some of them if you're interested:

http://www.cpucoinlist.com/
Back in 2003 bitcoin was not even thought of yet, let alone invented.
