Certainly! Of course, you can always try some wine in plastic bottles. fillippone loves it <3

I think I 'll pass unless it's mandatory in order to become a grown up fox. But the way this wine looks, I think I 'll pass  Tongue Sorry filippone.

I 'll stick to higher purity liquor.

OMG you are really studious little puppy, aren't you! Smiley

I don't know why but yeah. I read a lot. But sometimes the content is not suitable for my age.

Don't forget also o_e_l_e_o's follow-up to Maestro's "feedback":

In case it is somehow not obvious enough that my already rented avatar is not available to be rented by virtue of it already being rented, consider this post public notice that my already rented avatar is not available to be rented.

I do not think such an insignificant announcement regarding my already rented avatar not being available to be rented (because, if you remember from the beginning of this post, it is already rented) warrants its own thread.

And, speaking of Maestro75, he also made a similar wise post in fillippone's thread, with the occasion of having fillippone accepted in the gang. It was funny to see Maestro being the first person congratulating fillippone and saying what a great community member he is while, in fact, he had fillippone on his distrust list =)))

Yeah! I saw that.

Ok, now I made sure that you must be reading the thread twice a day. And it took me a week to read it twice. So I am at 1/7th of your speed. So I need to be 7 times faster to become a fox...

Although tbh I like being a small pup

Is this how we should abandon the people we know? Remember no matter what, no man should be left behind, in militaries they teach you this I believe, I was never a soldier in a military, but I kind of understand the notion. So it's better to show that we care.

Haha, I sense the humour and I appreciate it, but:

"So it's better to show that we care." ---> show it to whom?  Tongue
543  Economy / Reputation / Re: BlackHatCoiner decided to take a leave from bitcointalk on: December 11, 2023, 04:15:40 PM
I honestly don't understand what's the big fuss.
Some people see bitcointalk primarily as a milking cow, so its baffling to them that someone who is a high ranking member in one of the best campaigns on the forum would take a break, which is something that happens on other forums regularly and is perfectly normal.

Life is not always about money, is it?

OP, as I said above, it is great that so many people say "goodbye" to BlackHatCoiner, but perhaps you should lock the topic.

Of course this is my own opinion, but I think we may need to be silent about his decision (after seeing all the posts and having written in this thread myself), nothing will change and nobody will answer on behalf of him after all.
544  Economy / Services / Re: LoyceV's Avatar for Rent [first 🦊YEAR🦊 (55 weeks) rented out] on: December 11, 2023, 03:19:15 PM
Foxes, DONE! I read the whole history twice.

Some posts have been hilarious. Some others have been even more hilarious.

Finally, I seriously don't know why but I laughed so much with the following where o_e_l_e_o says "I don't have my own thread but I am posting here to say thanks" and then the following question from LoyceV made me lol:

Why not open your own thread
Saying what? "Avatar not for rent"?

545  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which amount of money is good for me to spend on DCA? on: December 11, 2023, 03:05:24 PM
Gonna go a step further, but since I can't provide any financial advice, what I want to ask is, how well do you protect your Bitcoin?

It is another thing you must keep in mind, regardless of your financial situation. The reason why I am asking is that Bitcoin is not as easy as "Buy it and hold it in the exchange". Exchanges are intermediaries essentially and if you don't hold the keys that unlock your coins, then if they just disappear, you will have nothing.

I am saying that, because from the numbers you posted, I reckon you have made a significant purchase.
546  Other / Meta / Re: Lists of non merit sources that got to 5000 merits on: December 11, 2023, 02:54:32 PM
See:
I will not be posting a definitive list of merit sources (so that people don't bug them too much), though you'll soon figure out who they are if you pay attention.

Oh ok, so it was theymos who gave extra merit to some users in order to spend it wisely. I thought there was a process (an algorithm) that determines whether someone is eligible to become a merit source. Thanks anyway
547  Other / Meta / Re: Lists of non merit sources that got to 5000 merits on: December 11, 2023, 02:40:08 PM
Hey all

1. Who is a merit source? Could someone send me a relevant thread where I can get this info?
2. For every 2 merits I receive, I can send 1 merit. Does this change over time?
548  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Guide] Ways to improve your seed phrase backup process. on: December 11, 2023, 12:15:24 PM
As a sidenote, this forum is full of posts where people ask for help to recover their wallets.

Most of them have done something out of the ordinary. Something completely out of the BIP39 templates.

Most of the time, these people end up losing money.

Again, I like people who try to innovate, but in this case, I can see many potential issues. And I can foresee many people complaining about losing money in the future.
549  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Guide] Ways to improve your seed phrase backup process. on: December 11, 2023, 09:34:01 AM
Hello and thanks for creating a guide for us.

I will be against using this method though.

I love simplicity and I am in favor of creating "notes" that I will be able to understand in 20 years from now.

But my question is, how safe is it? Even if you keep it safe in a locker, one can break it through to access it. Once they get their hands on that piece of paper or whatever you have used to back up your key, your wallet is compromised.

Adding a strong passphrase (>15 characters from the 95 ASCII printable characters) will immediately solve this issue.

What to do:
Let's say you have 12 words. Add a strong passphrase upon it.

Create 4 physical paper backups as follows:
1. Seed (backup A)
2. Seed (backup B)
3. Passphrase (backup A)
4. Passphrase (backup B)

Save them in 4 different locations.

Check if they are ok every now and then.

If you lose one of the papers (no matter which one) you will still have access to your funds and will be able to recover the wallet. Then you can decide what to do, you can create a new wallet etc.

Is it only me, or should this topic be moved in the Altcoins board (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67.0) ?

Installing Electrs from source

We have to download the sources from github: https://github.com/romanz/electrs

In order to do this, we need some packages, which we will install using the following command:
Code:
sudo apt install cargo clang cmake git curl

Then, we will download the sources for Electrs in our home directory:
Code:
cd ~
git clone https://github.com/romanz/electrs.git

We need to run the following command to install electrs:
Code:
cargo build --locked --release

This will take a while...

Now that the installation is finished, I want to run the electrs executable which is located in the path: ~/electrs/target/release/electrs. However, I want to be able to run it from everywhere, so I will move it where the bitcoin core binaries are:
Code:
mv ~/electrs/target/release/electrs /usr/local/bin

Now we must create a directory in our external SSD, alongside our bitcoincore directory.
Code:
mkdir /media/apogio/BTC/electrs

We will create a configuration file (electrs.conf) inside this directory.
Code:
cd /media/apogio/BTC/electrs
nano electrs.conf

At this point, we need to specify some details in our configuration file.
Code:
network="bitcoin"
auth="<user>:<pass>"
daemon_dir="/media/apogio/BTC/bitcoincore"
db_dir="/media/apogio/BTC/electrs/db"
daemon_rpc_addr="127.0.0.1:8332"
daemon_p2p_addr="127.0.0.1:8333"
electrum_rpc_addr="127.0.0.1:50001"
index_lookup_limit=1000
log_filters="INFO"
timestamp=true

Notice that I have set log_filters level to INFO and not DEBUG but if I need more information I will change it.

Now it is time to run electrs using the following command:
Code:
electrs --conf /media/apogio/BTC/electrs/electrs.conf

After it is finished, the electrum server will be running on port 50001.

552  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sparrow wallet causing local node to rescan on: December 10, 2023, 11:30:03 AM

So did I...

Oh ok, my bad. This will be much better in terms of performance. Are you running a custom node? Or a solution like Umbrel, Start9 etc?
553  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sparrow wallet causing local node to rescan on: December 10, 2023, 11:15:30 AM
Unfortunately not having a Electrum Server and connecting straight to Core can cause these issues

Going to give Electrum a shot as well.

No I meant electrum server. It is essentially a server that allows you to interact with the Blockchain. It sits on top of Bitcoin Core. Electrum is a wallet, like sparrow and they can both be connected to an electrum server. Sparrow can also connect directly to core. Not using an Electrum Server in between.
554  Economy / Reputation / Re: BlackHatCoiner decided to take a leave from bitcointalk on: December 10, 2023, 11:10:34 AM
It is beautiful that so many legendaries have such a good opinion about BlackHatCoiner.

I know he watches this topic, I know he sees your goodbyes.

But yes, as many of you mentioned, let's support his choice to leave. As such, I will stop writing on this topic.

Don't forget, the community is still small, so we may be engaging with each other in other places, forums, sites, with different nicknames.

555  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sparrow wallet causing local node to rescan on: December 10, 2023, 09:30:44 AM
And another possibility:

Did you change anything in the bitcoin.conf file? (Some directives may cause this issue)

All of the suggestions by o_e_l_e_o above are good suspects. Unfortunately not having a Electrum Server and connecting straight to Core can cause these issues
556  Economy / Reputation / Re: BlackHatCoiner decided to take a leave from bitcointalk on: December 09, 2023, 09:33:12 PM
BlackHatCoiner was / is / will be a valuable member of the bitcoin community.

He seems to be a good guy too, I have had the chance to speak to him outside of this forum, but I can't say we were close to each other. I have a good impression and I reckon he helped many newbies (and more experienced) users.

I will not comment on his decision to leave the forum. It was his decision and I respect it.
557  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vs Monero - Privacy as the world becomes more dystopian on: December 09, 2023, 05:42:24 PM

As a privacy coin it only complete a Internal transcation which is not possible publicly track like another crypto coins/tokens. but bitcoin is totally decentralised coin and it has more privacy then Monero. also bitcoin has decentralised wallet which is not possible to hack. so it doesn’t matter how internal transcation complete Monero coin bitcoin will always a strong secure coin then Monero

Are you saying "then" or "than"?

Bitcoin is not as private as monero is. Monero offers anonymity, whereas Bitcoin offers pseudonymity.

As far is decentralisation is concerned, then it is very difficult to calculate which one is more decentralised. Bitcoin is huge compared to XMR.
558  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Sending your BTC what to pay. on: December 09, 2023, 09:14:58 AM

Frankly LN is not ready for prime time
and m
large pools and miners are showing you how they can jack fees up with ease.

LN isn't ready. That's for sure. It requires much development both in the way it works and of course in order to make it accessible to everyone. Because you could just say to people to use WoS or MUUN that require no effort to set up, but then they would process all the transactions though their nodes. So yeah LN is not ready.

I hold doge
I hold ltc

and they are a superior tool for sends under 100 dollars.

Have you chosen those 2 for some reason? I would prefer XMR personally because it is a superior chain by all means. But I wonder why you chose from those two, especially DOGE
559  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Avoid paying high fees by Making fewer transactions advice newbie on: December 08, 2023, 09:32:40 PM
How does this work?

You have to use coin control and try to use a smaller amount of UTXOs as input.

For example if you have 5 UTXOs of 40k sats each and 1 UTXO of 200k sats, then if you have to pay someone 200k sats, the best option is to use 1 UTXO and not 5 UTXOs.

The more inputs you add up, the larger the transaction's size.

Oh well, how can I put this... Well, besides

What is the background to that story?
Lots of alcohol, possibly some other chemicals.
possibly some other chemicals.
Only the finest, medicinal grade chemicals.

we also help our queen to rule over the kingdom:

I control the merit system, Lauda controls the trust system. Together, we fight crime. Grin

Hmm let me see...

So basically we use alcohol and high purity chemicals, in order to control the system and allow our queen to rule over the kingdom. Sounds good to me! Why haven't I joined the lair earlier?!

So, I am going to grab a glass of Kraken rum right now. Am I in a good path?
