541  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 23, 2012, 05:01:05 PM
Once again, I will sit tight and wait for them to deny what I am saying, and then I am going to upload some documents and emails in my possession.

They probably aren't going to deny what you're saying. They are just going to do what they've been doing the entire time: Stay silent.
Could you please upload those documents now instead of waiting? If it's true what you're saying, legal action should start ASAP rather than wasting more time waiting for announcements that aren't coming anyway.
542  Economy / Securities / Re: GLBSE CSV -> profit & loss calculator? on: May 20, 2012, 01:06:13 PM
Works great! Would be awesome if it would be possible to see how much the shares you are currently holding are worth at the 24h avg price.
Do you think that would be possible to implement?
543  Economy / Securities / Re: (GLBSE) TYGRR-P or TYGRR.P 6.5% weekly uninsured pass though bond to BTCST on: May 20, 2012, 10:26:20 AM
The contract on GLBSE mentions 5% dividends, while this thread mentions 6.5%. Which one is it?
And thanks! Looks interesting to say the least Smiley
544  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A public apology to Donald, Patrick and Amir ("Intersango guys") on: May 18, 2012, 12:45:13 PM
Someone tell me if I did this right. I filled out the form, submitted it and received an email. I clicked the link in the email and it brought me to a page summarizing what I had filled out. There was nothing on that page to click or enter.

Same here. Now we'll have to wait I guess.
545  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 18, 2012, 10:56:57 AM
What's up with the CONFIDENTIAL claim IDs being send in plain-text via email?
546  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm leaving Bitcoin on: May 13, 2012, 01:18:23 PM
You did create value for Bitcoin. Stability has been a real benefit.

+1

The shorting really kept the price in check. I am not sure how high we would have gone without it in our run to ~7.20, but I know we would be off far worse in the long run. Thanks for all your contributions in this community Zhou, and good luck. I wish you the best! Smiley
547  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Has anybody heard about that Silk Road scam? on: May 07, 2012, 09:58:07 PM
The question is, just how difficult will it be for him to cash out?

The word is he already cashed out, at least a big part... straight to MtGox lol

Can you quote a source please? I'm trying to follow this story, but all I'm getting are vague claims based on nothing. Thank you very much Smiley

Bitcoin Funded Debit Cards

Yes, it’s entirely possible to fund your existing debit card, or credit card, with your accumulated bitcoin. And I don’t mean that you are shipped a generic, low-limit prepaid VISA or Mastercard from some anonymous reseller. I mean that you convert bitcoin online to dollars or euros and the funds are available to spend with a card that you are most likely already holding in your wallet.

550  Economy / Speculation / Re: Over 100 000 open Interest at Bitcoinica! Mostly short!?! on: May 07, 2012, 09:15:19 AM
Rally Time Smiley at what price will it take for force liquidation and a short squeeze?
I don't think there will be a short squeeze this time - what I expect is that the price will keep being stable for quite some time and all the shorts will be slowly liquidated one by one by their owners because of the interest rates.

Doesn't make any sense. We've had stability with longs closing (ie selling Bitcoins, as seen by the decreased interest on longs) and more and more shorts opening (ie selling Bitcoins, as seen by the increased interest on shorts). What makes you think this stability will hold once the pressure shifts from downward to upward?

I'd say once people start liquidating shorts, because of the interest you mentioned, the price will rise and people will start wanting to go long again. And since the shorts are starting to lose money, both by interest and the rising price, they might want to close as well. This could turn into a huge snowball and launch us much higher if these events happen in a chainreaction-style.

We'll see. I think the days of stability are soon to be over Smiley
551  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally!!!!! on: May 06, 2012, 06:40:18 PM
Deposits to Gox have been delayed during this week, that is one reason for the low volume. I think it's actually quite bullish that there hasn't been a bigger sell-off, we could be seeing a major rocket once deposits start to clear up during the week to come. Something will happen for sure, this is calm before the storm.

At what day do you think deposits will start hitting Mtgox? Tuesday? Wednesday? I'm hoping you're right =)
552  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: btccharts.com on: May 06, 2012, 06:27:04 PM
Do you have an idea about how much your future subscription will cost?
5$ or 1BTC /mo (not sure about currency)

Really? You don't know if you'll accept btc? I must be misunderstanding.

I think he's not sure if he's going with 1 BTC per month, or with 5$ worth of BTC per month.
At least that's how I understand him. I doubt he's not going to accept BTC for his service, don't worry Wink
553  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally!!!!! on: May 06, 2012, 05:44:30 PM
17,5k 24-hour volume. That's extremely low... Wonder when things are going to pick up the pace.
554  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoinica: No Reserve on: April 21, 2012, 04:17:13 PM
It shows no reserve when they have trouble connecting to the Mtgox API too. Their reserves are still plenty. Their interest rates on USD deposits are relatively low at the moment:

USD    1.93    7.3%

That last percentage has been over 20% without the starfish showing, so we've still got a looong way to go before they are out of reserve. And remember that as that percentage climbs, more people will most likely deposit to profit off of the interest rates, postponing the starfish even longer.
555  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoinica Starfish showing on: April 20, 2012, 09:27:31 PM
Not even close yet, look at the interest rates people are currently getting on USD:

USD    2.19    8.32%

In the past, that percentage has been over 20% without the starfish showing. It's going to take a lot more leverage to reach those levels, and as the interest rates will rise, more people will deposit, postponing the starfish. Bitcoin is looking good at the moment!
556  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Paytunia Bitcoin wallet released today! on: April 15, 2012, 04:08:50 PM
Can't install this build. Tells me I need 5.0, while I'm running 4.3.1 Sad Too bad
557  Economy / Speculation / Re: crash below 4.75 on: April 13, 2012, 10:59:17 AM
if there is a serious drop below 4,75 expect to go lower, 4,75 is 61,8% from the last up trend (4,61-4,98)

And what will happen if we rally above 5?
558  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Drugs are Bad for You on: April 11, 2012, 03:52:25 PM
I have a few problems with this thread.

1. First of all, this thread totally dismisses the fact that there have been loads of people that have been helped tremendously by using certain drugs, making their lives a lot better. You, however, are only presenting negative cases. That's not fair at all, is it?

2. Second of all, drugs is such a broad term. Some drugs have loads of side-effects, some have very little. How can you conclude that drugs are bad based on just a few examples of drugs? Also, you "research" shows multiple different drugs. You'd have to look at each drug independently to see if there are causes for concern per drug.

3. Third of all, loads of those scary stories contain a mix of multiple drugs, such as benzodiazepines and alcohol. That's a very dangerous combination. You can't blame the drugs if people are stupid enough to take different drugs together that are known to be dangerous if taken together.

4. Fourth of all, congratulations, you've found people under the influence of drugs that did some bad things. That fact alone doesn't say anything though. There are loads of sober people that have done terrible things. Can we conclude from that fact that being sober is dangerous? Not at all. To make a valid comparison of the negative effects of drugs you'd have to look at the percentage of people under the influence of certain drugs that did bad things, and you'd have to look at the percentage of people that were sober and did bad things. To be able to calculate those 2 percentages you'd need the numbers describing: 1. Sober people that did not do something bad 2. Sober people that did something bad 3. People under the influence of a certain drug that did not do something bad 4. People under the influence of a certain drug that did something bad. I'm only seeing number four.

5. Fifth of all, even if a correlation was found between using certain drugs and people doing bad things, that does not imply causation. Most of those people were taking drugs for a reason. Have you ever considered that there might be something that caused them to take those drugs, and also caused the bad behavior? Perhaps they had personality problems, which caused the doctor to prescribe drugs, but those personality problems also caused the person to act the way he did? Or someone who flipped, causing him/her to consume drugs in a rage, totally out of control, and to harm someone else or maybe even him-/herself. I'm not saying this is the case for all those stories, but I'm sure there are plenty of accidents in which drugs were involved, but weren't the cause for the accident.

I hope this post will change the view some of you have on drugs. Drugs are indeed dangerous if people don't use them in a responsible way, but they can also be tremendously helpful for the people taking them. Thanks for reading Smiley
559  Economy / Speculation / Re: Node Count vs. Price on: April 07, 2012, 05:24:49 PM
You can't deny from those graphs that the network is on a downward trend as far as people actively using Bitcoin.

Yes I can deny that. More and more people are using website based wallets (blockchain.info for example) or alternative clients (Like Electrum). The only thing those graphs prove, is that there are less original Bitcoin clients running, which isn't a good measure of total activity in Bitcoin-land at all.
560  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: GLBSE 2.0, Is it safe? on: April 02, 2012, 12:38:40 PM
GLBSE2.0 is nothing close to solid. All you need now to get access to someone’s account is their e-mail address and password. That is it!
What is not solid about that? Take care of your passwords and make them secure enough with something like KeePass. Most users on most Bitcoin exchanges have the same kind of protection.

You can take your password and encrypt it exactly like you encrypted your private key if you want.

I agree though that a 2nd auth with your phone would be preferable here, but I don’t think your topic’s title is appropriate, because yes, having a PW is safe if you can take care of it.

Much more concerning is the question whether GLBSE now has any exploitable vulnerabilities etc., I would really like to see Patrick Strateman (from Intersango, where Nefario works too) do some penetration testing like he did with other exchanges if it hasn’t yet happened.

I can keep my password safe but he forced me to use an account that was not safe. To get the password to that account all you need to know is *censored*. Had I known that this feature would have been implemented I would have never used that e-mail address. Hell I doubt I would have even signed up.

What do you think the title of this thread should be? I am open to changing it if you have a better idea.

Can you please edit your post and remove what people need to know? You're only making it easier for people to hijack your account. I agree current security is lackluster for this site if they want to become big, but you've made your point already. No need to make it easier for people Sad
