Reminds me of the awful times in the realms of 450.
Reminds me of the awful times in the realms of $10.

The worst was the retrace from the then incredible ATH of $32, all the way in slow agony to $2.

Yup, this is nothing. Granted, mining 2 BTC per day with 2 Gh/s was kinda fun.

Lots of trees down and power outages. I was very fortunate and made out ok. There are still thousands without power but I'm not one of them. Our single under my control is up and mining as of an hour or so. Next time I'll be more prepared with back up power and will be potentially able to mine through a power grid outage.  We had plenty of winter storms that affected others but not us because I am so close to power stations. A lot of big trees were uprooted in an area where natural disasters and high winds are very rare.  Wind, solar and generator back up are going to be installed here soon.
Glad you made out alright.. We just had a thunderstorm last night knock out the power and take a number of trees down.  My power came back up aroun 1am but my internetprovider was down until sometime this morning so the single I'm running was down for a number of hours last night.

Seems like mesh nets and power independence will be ways to improve the mining infrastructure going forward. I'm going to put considerable effort into local renewable power resources and redundant internet connectivity aspects of mining as they are likely to make a bigger difference for mining profitability going forward than choice of mining equipment or chips.

Hey folks,  I've been hit by hurricane Arthur. No power for the next few days. I'll update as soon as I'm back up and running our single.
Hope everyone's ok there and you don't have too much damage!

Isn't the 80/20 split done after the power is paid for? That way it is the profit you are splitting. It doesn't make sense otherwise.

Sure your way makes economic sense for the person mining but I think it would become an administrative nightmare for AM to figure out the energy costs for each miner.  If AM uses all 60 PH worth of chips - that's 4000 x 15TH franchises.

That is just a problem to solve that would be easier than solving the problem of no one wanting to run a franchise and pay for the power out of their share and no profit. They could pay a flat rate of btc converted at market price per Kwh and potential franchisees could decide if they want to participate or not at those power rates. People with lower power rates would profit slightly more than others.

It is obvious if you watch the action on Havelock that there are a lot of shares being traded around the current price. No one is buying up the price but those who are buying at this price are going to feel like those who bought at ipo soon enough.  There just aren't any securities out there who give a decent return and the vast majority are ripoffs and scams. The days of 30% annual divs are going away for ever soon and just getting a solid few points will be phenomenal in the bitcoin space.

Why do people keep dumping in a market that clearly wants to go up?

Don't anthropomorphize the market -- it hates that.

I can understand why, being a monkey and all.

Despite what some said before this is not old news, it is likely to have a significant effect toward adoption levels.

is it really smart poking the buffalo with a stick?
i hope you are at least posting this behind TOR and if not that the tax man won't subpoena the forum to disclose your ip to make an example.

They would still have to prove that I owe them something.

The burden is on the taxpayer (you) to prove that your tax return is accurate.

if the IRS feels like your standard of living is significantly above your income/assets then they will audit you and they have great investigative ability.

I wonder if they accept the "computer crashed and lost all documents" argument from their victims?

If I win or buy a minted seat am I able to have all my other seats pay directly to the coin??

You can use the coin's public address to receive donations by setting it on your nastyfans.org account settings. EDIT: Just be aware that you would have to break the hologram to spend coins out of the private key.

I'm glad to see the price go down before the auction. It only takes $$$ out of the hands of the feds and makes the buy price more attractive for large buyers who are also future hodlers.

Why is anyone still focusing on China? Do they contribute anything to Bitcoin development or adoption?
Because they still define the price, mostly.

Arbitrage trading tends to equalize prices among all exchanges, generally by copying the price from high-liquidity exchanges to low liquidity ones (counting as "liquidity" not only the order book but also how quickly the traders react, I guess.) That effectively means copying the price from the main Chinese exchanges (OKCoin, Huobi, BTC-China, and several others that are not listed by popular chart sites) to those in the "West" (Bitstamp, BTC-e, etc.)

I would say that this rally, in particular, was started and is being driven by the Chinese traders.  The big price jumps (the positive ones, at least) seem to have started in China a little before they start in the West. (It hard to tell for sure, the difference is less than a minute; which is expected, because arbitrage robots must be quick or they will lose the opportunities to competitors).

None of that is supported by this recent study.  http://arxiv.org/pdf/1406.0268v1.pdf
