Dropt, that was an excellent post, you shouldn't have deleted it

*sigh*  You're probably right.  I feared like i was coming off like a jackass.  However, I too thought it was pretty good, so maybe I'll re-write it.

Is there some contention over BFL not having a working prototype?

No, because it does exist.  I wrote a post regarding this whole fiasco then deleted it, I'm seeing if it can be retrieved.

I have it in my deleted emails.  I'll PM it to you Wink
542  Other / Off-topic / Re: 1GH/s, 20w, $700 (was $500) — Butterflylabs, is it for real? (Part 2) on: February 20, 2012, 07:55:58 PM
In other news, Who is going to collect that 13 BTC bounty? I thought we'd have something for sure this last weekend.

To collect, we'll need a tracking number posted into this forum AND an un-boxing video.
I dunno how much info can be gleaned from a tracking number, but is it OK to PM it to a mod, who can then post and say it's legit? For 13 BTC, I would do that and an unboxing + setup video, if I ever get a tracking number (and a single) in the first place. Roll Eyes

The deadline is end of day Friday (PST). There were whispers in the #bitcoin chatroom that someone had received a device on Sunday, but I haven't heard anything since.

A little birdie said my first single would be flying out to me tomorrow.  Grin  Grin  Grin

Yeah, mine is close as well but I imagine you live a lot closer than I do so you'll most likely get it first.   Get that video done (I don't care which one of us get the bounty as long as it comes from Goat, hehe) Cheesy

Well investigated organ.  This isn't going to go down well I expect!
545  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - The most advanced Bitcoin Client in existence! (v0.5.1-alpha) on: February 19, 2012, 03:03:22 AM
Ah ok, so it's 64bit Python or nothing (for me)?   If only I could remember why I installed the 32bit version.... Cheesy  I have a bunch of other stuff running using that Python installation so I might just hold off on Armory until something else is worked out.   Not sure I can be bothered risking having to fix everything if I upgrade to x64 Python Wink

EDIT:  Ok, I tried it, but while Armory worked, other stuff broke quite badly so I'll have to hold off for now.
546  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - The most advanced Bitcoin Client in existence! (v0.5.1-alpha) on: February 19, 2012, 02:54:04 AM
Whoa, I just realized that I accidentally left the 0.5 link up for the 64-bit version.  I have updated the link on the Get Armory! page with the version 0.5.1 for the 64-bit.

I get the same error on Win 7 x64...

If you followed the four steps (python, twisted, zope, pyqt), and then unpacked the 0.5.1 zip file, you should only need double click ArmoryQt.py (in fact I just did a fresh install of Win7-64 and tested it again with the updated 0.5.1 pseudo-binary, and it worked).

The error you mention occurs when the _CppBlockUtils.pyd and/or CppBlockUtils.py file are not present in the directory (which are included in the .zip file).  If they are there and you still get the error, then perhaps the .pyd file (which is actually a .dll), was compiled for the wrong architecture, i.e. you downloaded the 32-bit version for a 64-bit machine.

Try it again with the new 0.5.1 link on the webpage, and make sure everything was installed and unpacked properly.  PM me if it still doesn't work!

The only thing I can think of is that I downloaded the x64 Armory client (I'm on an x64 system), but I have the 32bit version of Python (long story) so I grabbed the 32bit files for the dependencies...

I tried compiling and running Armory on Ubuntu 11.10 and got the following error.  I followed your instructions to the T, and get this:

Of course bitcoin is going to live or die based on its own merits, but when a new person becomes interested and the first place they're confronted with is this forum filled with sociopaths it's obviously not going to create a fantastic first impression is it.

Lol, is there really a SC3 coming out?  I thought that was a joke (much like SC itself).   Dear oh dear Smiley

I disagree with nearly every point.  Not sure it's worth going over point by point though.

Believe what you want, I'd say I'm basking in the warmth of a functioning unit making a couple bucks a day, but it's not really that warm.

I'm with you.  There must be a mild form of retardation sweeping this forum Wink

Just on that, this place is an absolutely terrible advocate for Bitcoin.   The idiot ratio is off the charts.  There needs some serious changes to moderation here if we ever want the general public to get serious about this currency.   Its absolutely shocking that this place is likely one of the first places new people are exposed to when investigating Bitcoin Sad

B
Hold the phone, what's wrong with the points that Kano raised? I don't believe that BFL is completely absolved from any unethical behavior because the end justifies the means... and rolo, straw men don't exempt you from the merits of Kano's points.

I didn't even read Kanos post, he's just out to cause trouble in this thread, I have no time for him.

I'm with Inaba with regards to "who cares what the trolls think".   He has a unit he's happy with, I'm certain mine will arrive shortly, that's all that matters.

Trolls will be trolls, that's never going to change.

I stick by the rest of my post regarding the dire state this forum is in.  Bitcoin is screwed if this place isn't put under some stricter guidelines.

Are you privy to some information that the rest of their customer base isn't? No one has one yet, except for Inaba, and one unit hardly proves anything. I could get you a single working FPGA for $10,000+ in preorder money that people claim to have lent them for four months.

My reply to Kano applies to you as well.  Your fun is nearly over so make the most of it while you can.  Why some of you are so desperate for these things to not exist I'm not sure I'll ever understand, but whatever gets you off I suppose.

...
Its done?  Really?  First batchers have their units?

Read it again.   Yes, the R&D and first units are done.
Well, actually, BFL have "said" they are done.
But no one seems to have gotten one except Inaba (and his is a loan as far as his first post on it seems to suggest)
... unless the "WTF is that?" question I asked was supposed to be a shipped BFL? Tongue

Fine, I'll give you that for now.   That record is close to breaking though so make the most of it while you still can.

Yes, well, thankfully everyone has the option to choose not to buy one if they have problems with BFL's business.

Us early adopters knew the risks but put down our cash early and will be rewarded with the first units.    If you decide you want to buy one now you'll have to wait for a new batch to be assembled and shipped out (exactly like the other fpga options on this forum, there's a delay of a few weeks between batches).

This first batch has all been about research and development to build a stable design.   That's done now so all future orders are just a matter of getting the boards built and the units assembled I guess.

But again, you have the option to buy or not, no-ones forcing you at gunpoint.

My home internet connection is being a bastard, so I'm getting some timeouts to the pool which is affecting the hashrate and the displayed rate it will be lower than actual hashrate,  In retrospect, I probably should have put it in the datacenter, but then I wouldn't have been able to get pictures and such.

I'm calling Time Warner today to ask them WTF is up.

Numbers and other stuff will be coming tonight.

The hash rate is already looking nice, so if that's with your dodgy connection I'm looking forward to seeing the stable numbers!

I've been watching this thing ever since it went online. I noticed it quickly stabilized at around 830-850 Mhps, but once it submitted about 600-650 shares, its speed dropped to around 750-770 Mhps and it has remained at this low speed for at least the past 10 minutes (shares as I type this are 787 shares, speed 758Mhps).

Is this one of the prototype units, the one with the power problems, or is this a production unit representative of what will ship? Any idea why the sustained speed drop after 20 minutes or so of operation? Thermal throttling? It is worrisome.

Yeah, an average hash figure would be nice, at least just for this first test.   Poor old Inaba, he's going to get pestered so much over this until the rest arrive Cheesy
