Really? 0.09/kwh is the cheapest in the USA? That stinks! Up in ontario average rate is about 0.07/kwh It dips down to 0.05 at night and up to 0.09 during the day I believe. My condominium building is free however I am saving about $200/month right now!

No need to connect through tor to keep your bitcoins "anonymous".

What does this poll tell you?
Bitcoin is still WAY too technical for the mainstream...
Just as every computer science class I attended was 95%+ male students, the bitcoin forums are as well.

I will tell you which way bitcoin is headed if you can tell me who will win game one of the miami/chicago NBA match up tomorrow.

If there is going to be one, it will probably be at my place.

This is cool, but you could have waited and dropped it on a newb for it's first appearance.

Beware of other people using your accounts.
I agree, but they are both trusted long term employees 5+ years who I trust. I am guessing that deepbit maybe susceptible to a brute force password hacking attack. You seem to be able to try as many incorrect passwords on the site in a row as you want. I hope they put a delay after 3 failed log in attempts. Does anyone have the contact info for the admin at deepbit? I am hoping they have some kind of log for whoever logged into my account. You "trust" your employees? Hah.

Is there a good blog post that explains this project to non-bitcoin fanatics?
Not yet that I know of. If anybody writes one, feel free to post it below!

Your poll excludes people who are intersex.
I thought about that, but then thought given the ratio of intersex peoples to the general population multiplied by the ratio of bitcoiners to the general population, I figured more people would use it as a joke than realistically.

Been here a few days trying to get my bearings.
My machine is doing the whole generating thing with 0.3.21 at about 4500 khash/s.
Where does that put me on the spectrum of mining rigs?
Good, bad, indifferent?
Should I upgrade hardware or join a pool if I'm interested in doing this?
CPU mining will get you nowhere. You need a good ATI graphics card for mining. Check out https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison for a good list of what does what. I looked into it a week ago and found the ATI 5850 to be the best value for me. Power consumption is relatively very low, and if you look hard, you can purchase good ones under $160 shipped. Also take a look at http://bitcoinx.com/profit/index.php -- enter in your specs and investment to get a rough idea of your profit margins. He's allowed to play the lottery, isn't he?! CPU mining will generally award you a block every few years depending on your CPU. In a few years however, that block could be worth a few million.

I bet <15mhash/s
You're probably right. The GPU inside the Wii isn't all that powerful. The thing is it would be far more efficient than say CPU mining if it managed to achieve ~15 Mhash/s But there are over 85 million of them

Cooling can only do so much. If you have a problem with heat -- that's when you should consider relatively expensive liquid cooling. If you have no heat problem, you're wasting money, over-complicating things, and exposing yourself to a catastrophe if you installed the cooling system improperly.
The ASUS 5850s I purchased are excellent at dissipating air (unlike some awful Visiontek cards I had shipped to me and promptly returned). Even on hot summer days, my GPUs chill out at 51-58*C with a core speed OC from 725 MHz to 910 MHz. Liquid cooling would be a poor investment for me. Perhaps, however, you will find you have a problem with heat. Perhaps your card runs very hot and the drivers reset when it reaches a certain too-high temperature, or perhaps your cards have a poor warranty and you can't risk running them a little warm. Those would be scenarios you should consider liquid cooling.
In any case - wait. Wait and see if you have a problem with heat before you try to solve it.
If you have no problem with heat, you aren't overlcocking enough yet.

I was thinking the same. The fact is people want to do business with each other, it's been normal activity since we started doing this kind of thing.
The government saying we can't unless we play by their (pain in the ass) rules means nothing if there is an alternative.
Yes bitcoin is probably going to be illegal, but if everyone's doing it, and very few, if any are caught then it doesn't matter. We don't have to deal with the government anymore if we don't want to.
"caught"?? Come on.. I highly doubt the government would start penalizing citizens for using something that was advertised/widespread in the least. It's not like they started arresting people who tried to use liberty dollars. They only arrested the founder.
