541  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum - Bitcoin client for the common users (friendly and instant) on: June 11, 2013, 02:11:57 PM
I agree.

I would not be here talking to you today, if there were no problem with bitcoin-qt.  The mandatory update to 0.8.1 in May rendered my offline wallets (and online wallets) "corrupt".  The wallet.dat files were not corrupt, they just could not be read by the update.

For that reason, I started looking for something that makes sense.  I used bitcoin0.6.3 to extract my private keys and it opened my 'corrupt' wallet.dat files perfectly, and Electrum imports them perfectly.  I will not use the bitcoin-qt client again.

I don't see a button to add contacts (I have many).  That feature would be useful.
Also, some contacts have many wallet addresses, and I always confirm the name and address when sending.  Both should be visible in the contacts list.
542  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum - Bitcoin client for the common users (friendly and instant) on: June 10, 2013, 11:16:54 PM
Your imported private key gets encrypted into your Electrum wallet.

Thanks for your response.  I did some testing...

I put my electrum.dat (containing an imported wallet) on another computer and and was able use "file" + "open wallet" without being prompted for a password.   I could see all addresses, balances and transactions for the 5 electrum addresses and all the same for my imported wallet.  I was not able to spend coins without a password, but I could see everything.

The fact that any electrum.dat file can be opened (if stolen or moved) without a password, may not allow someone to take your coins, but if they can open it, it might motivate them to crack your password.  Is this intentional?  Or should the program ask for a password when it opens up / opens a different .dat file?
543  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum - Bitcoin client for the common users (friendly and instant) on: June 10, 2013, 06:05:17 PM
I just started with Electrum.   I have an imported wallet and I wonder where the private key is stored.  I understand that this wallet will not be restored if I restore Electrum from seed.  But I want to know where Electrum keeps it. If someone gains access to my computer, Electrum's ".dat" file is encrypted, but where are the private keys (that I entered) for my imported wallet?

The reason I ask...  I have one wallet.dat that has never seen an on-line computer (and it contains quite a bit).  Before I enter a private key to access/spend from that wallet, I want to know where the private key goes/stays/is stored after I enter it into Electrum.

Thanks

544  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: May 15 omg what do I do? on: June 01, 2013, 10:24:19 PM
I updated from .07x to 0.8.1 on the 15th.

Bitcoin-qt starts, begins to re-index, and then locks up my Ubuntu 10.04LTS box - this machine has never locked up before, runs 24/7 - months on end.

I saw a post from another 10.04 user in one of my local lists saying he had the same issue- another member said, "update to 0.8.2...?

I updated to 0.8.2 - same thing.

Anyone?

JoelKatz was not familiar with it when I had first posted.  He said "you must have been signed on from two computers - the only way that could happen"

Glad they are aware of it anyway - Thanks.
Yeah, I was not aware of it when you first posted. Since then, it's been happening to everyone, including me.

Hi JoelKatz,

Is there any word on fixing the contacts bug?  I want to bring in more users, and it makes it difficult without the ability to add people, trust them, etc.

546  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BETA]Bitfinex.com first Bitcoin P2P lending platform for leverage trading on: May 01, 2013, 07:12:27 PM
WOW.

Holding from a buy my position from $142 was just completely forced liquidated at $110, no notice/email/anything whatsoever and the required margin was nowhere near what I had available. I still had more than enough to cover in the account, I even still have .6 BTC after forced liquidation of entire position Then it in turn sold my BTC's @ 108. This is absolute insanity.

This is SERIOUSLY not cool. Can I get some help please?

I had the same problem - so, I now use the exchange tab ONLY.

Another glitch in the system:  I had an order cancelled for insufficient margin (on the Exchange tab).
I didn't know I had to have a margin/reserve to sell on the Exchange tab.

Here - from history (can't spend my own money)..

Its a bug. a regression. They are working to fix it.

The Ripple web client is not saving my contacts between sessions. Is it supposed to?
I'm using LocalBrowser mode. Is this why it initial wanted to store my blog on a server somewhere?

Or maybe I have a browser configuration option wrong somewhere.
I'm using Safari 6.0.3 on a OS X 10.8.3

Mine doesn't either.  I am using Windows7 - Chrome

See  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=145896.msg1924442#msg1924442

I have now recommended three new people to Ripple - sat and watched them sign up.  All had the same experience:

Add contacts/trust
Upon logging in for the second time, Contacts vaporized - gone.

(trust entries are still there, but only the ripple address - not the name)

Another bug that happens from time to time - several entries for one order...

(the ARS = Argentine Pesos - we are trying to migrate a huge Bitcoin population to Ripple as the economy collapses here)

Some help please: I just created a wallet and have a few basic questions:
1. Does the wallet HAVE to be on their site? Can't it be a local one like bitcoin-qt?
You can change the storage to local. You can save your wallet in a file and load it from a file.

Quote
2. I posted my address on the forum to get some first coins and I'm waiting (hoping it works!). The other option in their site is to have another user send me 300 or more ripples. Why 300???
3. Is there any other way to get XRP? Any exchanges?
It used to be that 300 XRP was the practical minimum to open an account, create a pathway so your account could hold BTC, and then trade BTC for XRP. So with 300 XRP, you could buy all the XRP you wanted. The reserve levels lowered recently, so 100 XRP will do now.

You can buy XRP from Bitstamp, bitmit, xrptrader, and a few other places.

Thanks! So, once I get my first 100+ XRP, I can create a pathway and then trade BTC for XRP. Good, but what's a pathway???  Grin

I would like a step by step on that one.
I was able to save it to a file. How do I load my wallet from the file?

MtGox blows!!!! Banker wannabe's.  They are messing up the whole concept, letting traders make little .01 trades - hundreds/thousands per day.

Same here - I have .48 stuck there - can't get on the forums.

As soon as I noticed, I gave it a day and quit mining on Bitclockers.  It used to be my primary pool - sad.
554  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: How to get remaining balance from bitclockers? on: April 24, 2013, 06:23:51 PM
I have a little over .15 btc with bitclockers that I'd like to transfer over to MtGox.  But whenever I try to withdraw, it says there's an error and I should try again later.  I been trying for about 3 months and I still get this error.  I've tried a different address and lower quantites,  but I can't get the BTC.

Anyone got anything?

Btw I asked here instead of bitclockers' forums because I couldn't pass the image verification (I don't think there were even letters on that thing...)  And the audio didn't play any sound (to hear the letters)

Same here - I have .48 stuck there - thought they would fix it when they lost all their miners.
555  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ripple: let's test it! on: April 24, 2013, 04:09:59 PM
Wow. So somehow your mobile browser was saving your wallet without you actually doing anything, overwriting your changes.

No.  That was the first time I signed on using my mobile phone - in hopes it would make some changes that STICK.  Nothing was saved using any type of OS/Browser on any real computer.  (same wifi, so the problem is not ports/access)
556  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ripple: let's test it! on: April 24, 2013, 03:03:28 PM
The only way I know of that this can happen is if you save your wallet on one machine while it's open on another. If you do that, the last save wins and previous changes are lost. I haven't heard reports of that happening any other way.

I thought that too, but I have checked and double checked other computers in the house.

After an entire day of adding my contacts again and again every time I logged in to ripple, I was able to fix it - here's how.

I signed off ripple (computer).
I signed on via Galaxy - mobile phone (on same wifi connection) - added the contacts and signed off.
I signed back on (computer) and the contacts are there.

All computers were set to 'fetch wallet' from Payward only. It did not make a difference on any of my computers (windows, linux, firefox, chrome), but the mobile browser seemed to force the system to save changes.  I was never signed on to ripple on any two devices at once - still using only one computer every day - the same one I signed up from.

I'm new to ripple - works well.

Problem - contacts disappear, deleted contacts re-appear - issuer (in trading section) has to be entered again and again.

NOT a cache issue - tried 3 different computers (Ubuntu and Windows) - 2 different browsers (Chrome and Firefox)

Any ideas?

I signed up for Walletbit in order to pay my VPN service - worked well (except for the three hour wait to deposit)

January:
Deposited 1btc
paid .77 for the service
had a balance of .221

Now:
The bill just came and I knew I had enough to pay it (.15btc)

I signed on to Walletbit - BTC0.00

What happened to my balance?
