541  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Campaign to BOYCOTT BITCOIN! on: January 13, 2015, 02:08:09 AM
the only reason I have ever bought bitcoin is to buy superior alts which I use and save.
they also have no 'foundation' , and don't go grovelling to governments and banks

bitcoin just became too damn corporate, which is weird as has been such a naughty boy (silk road and scammers)

I love crypto and the sense of empowerment and very grateful for the concept and implementation by satoshi and for bitcoins existence.

but I have my altcoin communities and coins that i love and look forward to seeing the good coins grow and grow with good honest developers of which there are many. yes there are many scamcoins too, do your homework.

this world is fucked up enough by the dollar, imagine if it was the ONLY currency?
the exact reason we must never have a monopoly in crypto with just bitcoin as the player, which really for all intents and purposes is the case now. currently

on the next upswing we will see more and more of established trusted alts growing and growing. I am convinced of this. no-one wants just one currency or just one crypto. It's unnatural and for that reason won't happen.
A tiny percentage of the planets population is involved in crytpo right now, tiny. Human nature craves diversity and choice, and convenience. And frankly speaking bitcoin is a bloody dinosaur compared to many alts, many are pure clones too

I like this, great name too

@memorydealers

good to hear from you, imho you are a top,top man
followed your story with interest over the years

without doubt it was insane uncle sam inflicted that sentence on you and is beyond a joke you cannot enter your country of birth even though paying huge taxes

I foresee in more time to come many indigenous americans will be doing everything to rescind their passports

imo, don't waste too much of your time and energy on this, I realise this is a matter of principle but the US is one of the last places on earth I would visit with the regime running it along with draconian customs, insane cops and the rest of it. not to mention what they have done to this world past few decades.

this is no slur on americans reading this as there are many amazing people from america.

push on with that your doing mate, you've obviously put some noses out of joint, some faceless soulless bureacrats have been told to say no to your application.
don't waste any more energy or money on this, enjoy your life and what you're doing in better places. if the revolution comes, go back after  Wink

547  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Give me a break! on: January 07, 2015, 04:56:22 PM
"Bitcoin really is one of the most important inventions ever made in the entire history of the world. It’s the first time in the entire history of the world that anyone can send or receive any amount of money with anyone anywhere else on the planet. And you don’t need permission from a bank or corporation, nor even governments for this matter. And you can send or receive any amount of money just like that for…practically, for free. And nothing like this has ever existed before in the entire history of the world."

R.V.

If that is not a gamechanger then i dont know.  Wink

amen
548  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Explain WHY bitcoin would be good for a third world country. on: January 07, 2015, 02:26:41 PM
It isn't a good idea because of the ridiculous transaction fees on small amounts that a 3rd world would deal with more of.
Their balance would be whittled away by .0001 fees all day.
With less and less pools it can get to a point an operator won't accept transactions under a certain fee.
And they could get away with it because they have the hashing power to solve blocks and make money.
Not many pools worth joining as is today because of the hashing power being consolidated.
Not even worth the time to try and get a new pool going unless you can bring 10-20 terrahashes to start with.
It's hard now and you need to be a command line warrior to send a small donation or whatever to someone and not pay the fee.
Ok so why not use Litecoin there? The fee's are a lot smaller and it's still quick, secure and easy to convert to bitcoin for long term storage of wealth.

agree with litecoin, plus some other good alts like megacoin or peercoin, that are quick with strong networks

be really nice for third world people to be really early adopters of these currencies too and reap the benefits, bit later to game for bitcoin
549  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitstamp hack bitcoins are now moving! on: January 07, 2015, 02:24:21 PM
my first concern was they may try and dump them today. on smaller exchanges or trade into alts, then sell.
or they could just secure in multiple wallets and leave for years. then sell when everyone has 'forgot'

maybe a dump is on way today or they may sell on localbitcoins slowly, who knows
550  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Explain WHY bitcoin would be good for a third world country. on: January 07, 2015, 02:21:46 PM
Okey, so i've seen a lot of Comments like ''Bitcoins would be the salvation for Third world countries'' now may i ask why ? i can't wrap my head around it ?
Bitcoins require Internet and computers to work. a Third world home will probably not have neither of those requirements.

am freaking lost in this question.

most of the third world is unbanked. question answered

but also most/many have access to mobile phones and internet

rather than set up a brick and mortar store, huge council and gov fees, go crawling to bank who will say no, set up any manner of web based business, buying/selling/ services. whatever, and accept crypto as payment. plus send to family friends anywhere in world for no fees.

is a no-brainer every which way

553  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Government confiscation on: January 07, 2015, 09:57:39 AM
keep small amount on exchanges to trade
keep rest on offline laptop, encrypted password

also backup on thumbdrive

plus divest some btc into altcoins imo
don't keep all eggs in one basket

and no, you're not paranoid
but a little foolish to keep in online exchanges

557  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin continues to grow on: January 06, 2015, 06:11:43 PM
A lot of people look at the price of a bitcoin as a measure of it's success. While that is one metric that can tell you something about it's perceived value, it is not the most important one. Adoption is what I look at. Who is using bitcoin, and what new use cases are evolving? Below is a case in point.

I have just returned from some time in the middle east. I always try to meet with fellow bitcoin peers when I travel. I saw a number of stores accepting bitcoin in Israel, but only found one tea shop in Amman Jordan. Assuming that it had not caught on in Jordan, I didn't really look harder.

The Arab guy with me in the picture is Khalid. I rented some camels from him in Wadi Rum when I was doing some desert trekking. He was a an interesting guy who had taught himself about computers. When I (inevitably) brought up the subject of bitcoin, I about fell off my camel. He responded with "Yeah, I know what they are, I use them myself". Turns out he has bitcoins and was pursuing a payment processor so that he can start accepting them for his guide services!

Since he deals with visitors from around the world it is easier for him to take BTC than other currencies. He spends them online to buy things that are hard to get in Jordan, things like digital cameras and Japanese electronics. He also liked not paying 3% to the credit card companies. He needed nothing more than a bank account and a smartphone to run the money side of his business in the middle of the desert.

This is why I think bitcoin's growth is just beginning.  It is getting easier for me to find places that take BTC all the time. That penetration is now reaching out beyond cities and tech savvy circles.

If you find yourself in beautiful Jordan, I highly recommend his camp in Wadi Rum. He offers a place to stay with great food, jeep, horse, or camel treks. I chose him without any bitcoin connection, but knowing he will take them in payment is the icing on the cake.

brilliant!
love it  Wink

559  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What percentage of their coins stuck at Bitstamp will customers get back? on: January 05, 2015, 07:02:57 PM

they'll be auditing now + fixing issues

thankfully had none on there anyway
560  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitstamp 18,000 bitcoins stolen? on: January 05, 2015, 02:13:27 PM
not good, not good at all

bitstamp do appear a very professional exchange though, so am sure anyone with losses will get reimbursed

wondering if hackers will sit on coins or immediately dump, as that will crash price further
