5401  Economy / Marketplace / Place your ad in the Bitcoin Magazine(.net) Classifieds Section! on: January 27, 2012, 12:52:45 AM
Greetings!

As many of you are now aware of (and equally excited about), we're publishing the world's first Bitcoin Magazine (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=61017). Among other features, we will have a classifieds/job board section in the back of our magazine. This magazine will be published to 40 different countries and we are working on translating it into 5 languages.

This is not an e-zine, this is a full-color 64-page high quality glossy paper magazine-- the first of it's kind in the world.

In the classifieds/help wanted section, we will list:
  • Individually listed products for sale*
  • Individually listed services for sale
  • Help wanted advertisements
  • Looking for work advertisements

Individual placements in the classifieds section will be text-only, and charged $0.50 cents per word.

Here is an example of an appropriate placement:

Quote
Trying to sell my mining rig with four 5850s running at 1.6.Ghs. Will take offers. Need to unload quickly! Email me at rigman@mail.com.

The above placement would have cost $11.50, but would have a guaranteed reach of over 2,000 readers for the first month alone.

E-mail bittalk.tv@gmail.com or PM me directly to place your ad before the February issue is released!

Deadline for February issue is February 5th 2012!

*Advertisements must be for a single product/service individually. If you are selling more than one product or service, you must place a formal advertisement elsewhere in the magazine. See http://bittalk.tv/?page_id=280 for more information.

We reserve the right to refuse publication of any item or service for any reason.

Well done! I'm in for 12+1 printed issues + gift.

This is a win-win for every bitcoiner: if BTC/USD tanks next week, this was a cheap subscription; if it skyrockets to 1000$ this year, the 18.5BTC will make it the most expensive ever - but with some more coins in the wallet it won't hurt too much  Wink

Good Luck!

PS.: Frankly spoken, after lots of mining and reading about Bitcoin, this was my first purchase with BTC. And it went like a charm. No problems ordering to Switzerland, withdrew payment from MtGox, got it accepted two seconds later. Great service, Bit-Pay! Makes me think: why is it not yet used everywhere?

You're asking the right questions. This is one thing I hope the magazine can help out with. People are worried about representation (and some are frankly not that good at it) in the Bitcoin community as we are by nature a decentralized community. The problem with that is that decentralization also breaks up communication and sharing to a degree and you will find companies, products and services that are both underpublicized or less than professionally presented.

Since I am a quality junkie and a perfectionist, I will do me best to work with every company that works with the magazine to not only share our resources and learn from them, but to help bring them up to better standards and raise the bar for the whole community.

We can do this, as a community. Bitcoin Magazine can help.

He wants to remain anonymous with regards to bitcoin usage. Perhaps he lives in Italy?

I lol'ed.

I still want to buy this magazine with fiat (VISA or Mastercard).
Is there no way to do this?

Not trolling, actually curious-- wouldn't providing a mailing address to receive the magazine also be stripping you of your anonymity?

We'll see if we can get additional payment methods set up but if you tell me what country you're in, I could probably tell you where to buy the magazine once it is public.

That's some funny shit.

Don't pay me anything, please. I didn't even check to see if the image was released for Creative Commons sharing.

Well your call I wasn't intending to use that exact logo but it kinda pushed my thinking into a different direction and I find new ideas are always worth a Bitcoin.  How about if I ever get this venture off the ground I will buy an ad in your magazine instead?

That'd be dandy! Subscribe while you're at it!  Wink

Might I recommend a touch of green?

Hmm.  When I read your response I was like "green? I don't know"  Then I saw your mock up and I got to say I like it.  Also did you add some "texture" or was that already in the design and color just made it pop?  If I end up using it I will throw you a bonus genuine Bitcoin (in equally good but used condition).

On edit:.  Looking at the A design, B design, and your modified "C" design I think maybe A is less popular simply because the grey on grey lacks some "pop" that the blue in B provided.

Don't pay me anything, please. I didn't even check to see if the image was released for Creative Commons sharing.

I grabbed it from here http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_fFl015dzuoc/SNJ2G2ISmaI/AAAAAAAAAp0/mLUGxEEdrWA/s400/Circuitboard.png

Then I changed the perspective,

Dropped the opacity down to 48%,

Erased the path over the T

I am sure you can do better with some effort.

Thanks though!

Your wife is very smart and her reasoning behind suggesting blue are very valid, but blue is not typically a color associated with cryptography or microchips. Might I recommend a touch of green?

I picked the first one because it's more realistic.

Regarding DRM--- The unofficial direction we're started to push towards is:

1) A version for kindle that is 95% similar to the print version as per their requirements
2) An Apple newsstand version that is also 95% similar to the print version but less than 95% like the Kindle version
3) An Android version that is also 95% similar to the print version but less than 95% like the kindle or Apple versions.
4) A web version downloadable in PDF or viewable on the site that is less than 95% like the Kindle, Apple, or Android versions.

Regarding languages:

A) An English print version printed and distributed in USA and mailable internationally.
B) A German digital version distributed separately.
C) A Spanish digital version distributed separately.
D) An Italian digital version distributed separately.
E) A Portuguese digital version distributed separately.

We will expand as allowed and these are all long term goals. Just thought everyone would want to know which way the wind is blowing.

Any chance to decrease the costs of printed edition+international shipment?
Order in bulk. Smiley

I sent an email to the address found at the ordering page and I asked what kind of postage discount you get for ordering multiple copies and the discount is very significant at least if you order like 10 copies. But it has to be done with email, the default pricing system gives you a static postage fee regardless of the amount of copies.

I don't spend my whole day on these forums,

Why not? I can..
5411  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This will change Bitcoin as you know it. on: January 26, 2012, 10:46:37 AM
i think every issue should pick over the wiki-wiki-trade page for bitcoin-related sites to review.

Interesting you mention this.

UPDATE: We've decided to add a new back section to the magazine that will be several pages. This section will be a Classifieds and Job Board section. It will serve several important purposes:

  • Stimulate the community and the bitcoin economy
  • Increase arguments for usability from day 1 for the reader
  • Provide additional support for magazine aside from advertising revenue
  • Open up possibilities for new businesses and products otherwise impossible

Hope this new addition makes up for my own personal ignorance regarding DRM. (Still looking into legal options for carriers etc. What a nightmare...)

Clark moody sucking for anyone else?

No, he exclusively sucks for me, because I pay him handsomely to do so.

Does he no longer own Mt. Gox?

I meant to type "Owns" but I guess it's still appropriated since it used to be Jedds and then it got pwned.  Cheesy

really?
I though Mark was the founder of Magic the Gathering ox.

When did he take over the forum? I remember seeing it somewhere...
Around June or July, maybe as late as the Cosbycoin incident?

Yes it will be pirated with and without DRM, but that will not prevent the Magazine for being successful.

That to me smells of speculation. If it were even remotely true, people wouldn't be using DRM in the first place.
It absolutely WILL be pirated. And there is nothing that can be done about that. Full stop.

I am actually quite anti-piracy and all for authors getting fair remuneration for their work.  I am just stating a reality.

Well we want to represent our readers just as much as we want to represent Bitcoin itself. I am weighing all the consequences and doing more research to solutions. If it's a question of "when not if" for piracy, then it's a question of "when not if" we will give it out for free. I have faith our team will always make the right decisions on these issues. I really appreciate everyone stepping up and speaking out. We need it!

He is working for The Manipulator! GET HIM!

Every post you make supports bitcointalk.org, a forum hosted by KalyHost, which is owned and operated by Mark Karpeles, who owned MtGox, which you use to trade your money.

Everyone who uses this forum is working for the manipulator and don't you forget it.
I suggest heading back to SA and learning about trolling. Or at least what irony is. Grin

The Manipulator is a concept I find as ridiculous as you do. It’s just an excuse for people who lose money on Bitcoins.

Word.

I'm looking into this right now. Last I checked, selling something on the Kindle for example required that no other digital copy be available. I need to see if simply offering different 'versions' of our magazine would suffice.

That was exactly what I was trying to get at: If you use DRM, you aren't the publisher anymore; you are the author. The DRM vendor wants to lock your readers into their proprietary platform. Of course they don't want you releasing a superior product at the same time!

I didn't see the bigger picture. I do now. There is no way we are taking a part of that nonsense. If we make the decision to go mainstream using the well-built assets of major companies like Amazon, Apple, Google, etc, we'll make a legally-different version for each.
5420  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This will change Bitcoin as you know it. on: January 26, 2012, 04:06:28 AM
I'm not going to ask for a refund or anything, I think the paper copy will be worth a lot more than 1BTC. I'd actually kind of like 2 copies, one to read and one to keep in good condition as a collectors item.

But.. it would have appropriate to mention I needed a $200+ phone to use my digital copy (aka code?). The phone I have cost like $9 and I don't think your code will run on it.

I'm not sure I understand completely. Wouldn't a phone capable of viewing a PDF also be able to view that PDF inside of an app? I think your argument is against mobile version of the issue in general?

I can buy it for bitcoins?  Tongue
