5401  Other / New forum software / Re: Isn't SMF deprecated? on: October 30, 2016, 01:59:13 PM
So am I the only one who is used to SMF?

It is so stable.

@dreamer81, it looks the way it looks however design can always be changed even if it would (which probably wont happen) remain SMF.
I think there are some users on here that still like the old design better.  I'm pretty comfortable with the current look of the forum because it was here when I was first introduced to bitcoin.
Ah, the memories

That's the first time I've seen the "beta" version link and definitely prefer the current layout. It may just be the colour scheme needs to be more pale but it's like visiting blackhatworld with all those dark colours on the new one.
5402  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk hosting ? on: October 30, 2016, 10:03:09 AM
I'm just curious, why do you need to know where they are being hosted? It is irrelevant to you using it as a service. Judging from all the DDOS attacks that btctalk has been receiving lately I doubt they really want to shout that information out to everyone. You can use the DNS lookup service at centralops.net to get the information if you really want it.
5403  Other / Meta / Russian Political Posters on: October 30, 2016, 10:00:07 AM
I like to look around a variety of the boards here, but I have never seen such a consistent trend of one-sided spammers as I do when looking at the Politics section of the forum. I think everyone is entitled to their own opinions and should be free to share them. What I don't think acceptable is never altering your position based on the facts and discussions presented to you - this is just blind ignorance or biased propaganda.

That seems to be happening a lot in the politics section of the forum, where 9 of 10 posts are some weird twist on an event involving Russia or a jab at someone who is taking a stand against them. When you question these people, you are frequently ignored or personally attacked - without reasonable answers being acknowledged.

These usernames appear frequently, along with a few "smaller" accounts which pop up:

Masha Sha
BADecker
Sex Video Chat VKcams.com
Jet Cash
Vika NSFW

I don't really know the solution, but perhaps removing any post count from registering in the politics section would slow these people down or remove the incentive for a wall of one-sided political spam.
5404  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Lugansk on: October 30, 2016, 09:48:56 AM
Where is the evidence? This is another fake Putin! No one would believe that. Why is this not confirmed by the OSCE? Show where the Ukrainians have such weapons.

OSCE fails to fulfill its functions. Everything is much worse than the report of the OSCE. Prohibited weapons are used.

No shit prohibited weapons are used, Putin supplied a friggen' anti aircraft missile battery to the "rebels" that took down a commercial airplane. OSCE might not be the best, but Russian forces have zero transparency so can be trusted even less. What a lovely supporter of Russia we have here - advertising sex cams in their username.
5405  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Precious metals are not useful in a collapse scenario! on: October 30, 2016, 09:42:59 AM
You cannot predict the future, so you cannot definitively say that silver coins will never be used as a currency again. It's highly likely they won't, but not impossible. I think plenty of people who collect gold, silver, platinum and other rare metals see beyond the physical item. There are industrial uses for these materials, as you say, which could mean they get melted down for their useful properties in electronics or plating. Like every other market in the world, the price changes on these metals due to supply and demand - that is where investors make money.
5406  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How Putin told off the Muslims on: October 30, 2016, 09:37:41 AM
I love how Putin has his little Muslim puppet in Chechenya that he rolls out whenever a "but I don't persecute Muslims, here's one of our own" soundbite is needed. Frankly, Muslim extremists are doing a lot more harm than Putin so I don't care for either of them..
5407  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Justice is done, Oregon patriots acquitted on: October 30, 2016, 09:30:47 AM
I read something briefly yesterday that mentioned the protesters were kept in kennels like dogs after they were arrested. I don't know if this is true, but it would explain why these people are not in jail for taking over public land - because the police who arrested them were equally incompetent and screwed up in the head.
5408  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Adding funds (Bitcoin) anonymously to your Steam wallet? on: October 29, 2016, 09:42:48 AM
Thats strange, they shouldn't ask for personal informations like that without any reason.
Maybe there is reason? They are obligated to by some twisted law?
Shame on steam spies.

Either that or they want to cover their butts unless someone is money laundering or something. Either way I would prefer that I can buy their digital goods and participate in their community without giving them my personal data that they can either sell or use to get me on a watch list for using bitcoin in the first place or for posting non-PC jokes in CSGO matches.

Do you know if I would have to give information if I just bought one of those prepaid Steam cards?

You hit the nail on the head - they are covering themselves from any financial irregularities and frauds. None of the big companies want anything to do with "Anonymous" money and it not being matched back to one particular person. It's not a twisted law, because criminals are always looking to "clean" any money that is stolen and may even go to the level of selling loaded steam accounts.
5409  Economy / Auctions / Re: [Auction]Crypto Imperator "Anniversary" coin 2 Troy Oz. .999 Fine silver 10 made on: October 29, 2016, 09:36:49 AM
Crap.. these auctions being split between two sections make it really difficult to check. Was only watching the main collectibles message board as most of the auctions have been there in the last few weeks. Good for the buyers, not necessarily for the sellers..
5410  Other / Meta / Re: Alert for mentions on the forum on: October 29, 2016, 09:34:16 AM
I doubt that this feature would be implemented because it would eat so many server resources. It's one thing to do a single search, but what you're effectively saying is to have a script that will be automated to find a mention every 1min, 5 min, 15min, etc. I bet Theymos is always looking to minimize the amount of database queries, not increase them substantially. Why do you need to know when you're mentioned? Save that vanity crap for Twitter..
5411  Other / Meta / Re: Is this forum dead? on: October 29, 2016, 09:30:55 AM
If you think the forum is dead, maybe you should move on. For the rest of us, it's quite clear that plenty of conversations, developments and deals are happening. What exactly are you expecting, a hundred new non-cryptocurrency related threads every minute? Go to Facebook for your addiction.

5413  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bundy Brothers Acquitted in Takeover of Oregon Wildlife Refuge on: October 29, 2016, 08:39:04 AM
This is a very small victory. But the larger picture remains largely negative. Ranchers are still having their cattle and horses being confiscated, along with their land. People who had lived in their ancestral lands for more than a hundred years are getting evicted. The individual ranchers are being destroyed by the large corporations, with active support from the politicians and the judiciary.

What I find weird is.. Nobody is producing more land (except China) so surely it would be very simple to determine who owns what. You definitely need wildlife reserves and these farmers cannot take government land just because no one has challenged them on it in the past. By allowing them to take over nature reserves it's basically a big f*ck you to everyone else in the country who has paid towards it.
5414  Other / Politics & Society / Re: FBI Review Raises Clinton's Email Issue as Election Nears on: October 29, 2016, 08:34:02 AM
If you're already resigned to saying "She's a liar" before the police investigation is complete, why bother asking any questions? You don't know what the FBI is investigating, it could just be her weekly shopping list.. but you're oh so quick to jump to conclusions. If you think Donald Trump is any better, you are deluded.
5415  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Three coins for sale on: October 28, 2016, 10:42:55 PM
It'd be great to see the Microsoul coins in an auction and a status update on whether the prize for the lucky coin round has been found yet
5416  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: The shady side of Paxful on: October 23, 2016, 10:47:24 AM
If you type "Paxful scam" into google you will see there is a long history of accusations against this company and seeing as it's still going there needs to be a reminder every so often. It looks like a couple shills for Paxful are chirping, from newbie accounts the owner just created.
5417  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Duterte net satisfaction rate in Philippines is very good... on: October 23, 2016, 10:20:26 AM
The Phillipines: Once was Americas bitch, now it's China's bitch. Be careful what you wish for because the former definitely treated you better than than the latter ever will. It's like watching a child throwing their toys out of the pram.
5418  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Final proof women and blacks should never have been given the vote on: October 23, 2016, 09:50:41 AM
From the looks of those maps, Women and Black people are the more sensible voters in your country. Heaven forbid it is run by redneck retards like you.
5419  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer LocalBitcoinsScript on: October 23, 2016, 09:35:03 AM
Did you check this persons trust rating before you went ahead with the deal? From what I can see, you did this trade on the 23/10/16 (today?) and the person you traded with has a half dozen negative feedback's. I feel bad that you got scammed, but if you're going to ignore the trading tools given to you, it's hard to feel sympathetic.
5420  Economy / Economics / Re: How to deal with the "bitcoin has no physical existence" argument? on: October 23, 2016, 09:31:00 AM
The irony of people using that argument, is that most of the world is controlled by credit networks that are managed in a virtual environment. Visa and Mastercard, to name a couple, rely on an extensive range of data centers to keep their ledgers accurate. Yes, it's not like physical notes or coins but many people spend a majority of their life using bank cards to pay bills.
